Blo Blow Dry Bar

I booked with Blo after seeing that Drybar’s reviews were not the greatest. I had originally booked for a deep condition, but I was taken so fast, the manager didn’t have a chance to tell my stylist that I had booked one. Either way, Jason, I believe his name was, did a great job with my hair. We talked so much but it made it so much more enjoyable. His styling was very meticulous and detail oriented — which I really appreciated. I would definitely come back and book specifically with him.

Visiting from NY, and needed a quick blowout. They were very accommodating with fitting me in, and paired me with a perfect stylist for my hair texture. Aunette was amazing. Not only did she do an amazing job but she taught me SO much about my hair texture and things that I could do to help manage it on a daily basis. Tips for adding moisture, and even foods that I can incorporate into my diet for better hair health. I would definitely recommend Aunette and this location to anyone looking to get a blowout and some awesome hair knowledge.

This was my first time at blobar and I absolutely loved it! The staff was extremely welcoming and took the time to actually get to know how I wanted my hair and makeup done. They continually offered me champagne and mimosas and were absolutely great. My hairstylist Aunette was awesome. She was extremely friendly and did an amazing Job on my updo. Couldn’t have asked for a better graduation experience!

I love this place! First went to one in Tampa and found one here in DC. Where else can you go and sip on an adult beverage whilst getting your hair blow dried and styled? All within 40 mins.
I called and got an appointment same day. It was a kind of hidden so I bypassed it a few times before I saw the sign. Parking was a little difficult, so maybe next time I’ll über.

Loved this place! I had Nika, and she was just wonderful. I am just visiting or I would just be here every week!

This was my first time, the day before Mother’s Day, and it was an awesome experience. I love that I was immediately offered a variety a beverages, and enjoyed their champagne.
Annette was great, not only does she do an excellent job styling but her presence made me so relaxed.
I recommend blo to anyone who has a special event or is just hair challenged like myself.

I have very course curly hair and want blow outs whenever I am going out or doing something eventful on a weekend. I go to blo once every few weeks and have never been let down. I have had almost every stylist at blo and they are all top notch stylists – even though my hair is very curly and thick, I always come out of blo with perfectly styled and not poufy hair. This can be a difficult feat for many stylists at other salons, so I am always impressed. Not to mention that all of the stylists are super friendly and listen exactly to what the customer wants. The shop is very busy on Saturdays, so I try to get in on Thursday or Friday nights. As long as you’re on time, you never have to wait. I’ve been going to blo ever since I moved to the area and don’t think I’ll stop anytime soon.

Let me preface this review by saying, that I before first visiting Blo Blow Dry Bar, I was a regular at The Dry Bar when I needed a quick blowout, but couldn’t book with my own stylist. However, I am here to say that visiting Blo Blow Dry Bar was love at first and I haven’t been back to The Dry Bar since!
I’ve been to Blo over 10 times and I can honestly say that I have never had a bad experience. The staff is SUPER friendly and the establishment is trendy and cute with a wonderful ambiance. White leather chairs and gray and pink décor. Literally adorable! And a little bubbly (champagne) to top it off. I mean really? What better feeling that someone play in your hair as you drink champagne?
And the actual service is amazing! I can honestly say that as an African American woman with natural hair, getting my hair straight to the bone is a DIFFICULT task that requires patience and diligence. But the staff at this location always steps to the plate and is up for the task. I have many different stylists work on my hair at this location and they ALL have done phenomenal.
Do yourself a favor and try this place out the next time you can’t make it to see your own stylist/​hairdresser!

Majorly disappointed. I booked an appointment for a holiday event. The staff is nice, but the stylist did not do a good job. There was nothing about the hair style she did that led me to believe she knew how to do hair. More details below.
The stylist was really sweet but took no time to look at my hair or ask me questions (hair type? styling issues?). Wary of that, I quickly described my hair type and also advised that my hair doesn’t hold a curl so well. I then asked for one of the styles from the «menu» book. It was a style with wave to it, and although my hair doesn’t hold a great curl, I assumed that she could make it work since she is 1. a professional and 2. heard me mention my hair challenges. She washed my hair and applied product (so far so good), then proceeded to blow out and curl my hair. When she was «done» I was kind of in shock. My hair looked really bad and sloppy. I could have done whatever it was she did at home. I had static hairs at my scalp standing up, a few loose curls that were going to fall, and the curls were curled in on one side, and out on the other. I told her I did not like the look and explained again what I wanted in other pictures and descriptions. She told me that my hair type wouldn’t allow for the style I wanted. Ok… so we agreed to just straighten out the curls. I was left with EXTREME volume at the roots, then scraggly ends. All my baby hairs were sticking every way (which, from experience, I know a professional can tame). I felt like the stylist made excuses for the failure to make my hair look good by blaming my hair type. I agree, my thin wavy hair is tricky, but I think that is where a pro should manage expectations. Plus, had she actually looked at my hair before styling, she could have advised me to choose another style.
I had spent more on this wash and ugly blow out than I normally do for a cut and blow-​out at my salon. This experience was a waste of money. I had to rush home and re-​do my hair before the event. Also, the salon plays the most obnoxious EDM music at the loudest volume ever, plus there are 20 blow dryers running at the same time… I felt like I had temporary hearing loss when I got the EFF outta there.

I meant to write a review after the first two services I had since I had a fairly positive experience. The blow out was fine. I have fine straight hair so I just get a very basic blow out and have used them when I have an important event after work and I don’t have time to go home and shower.
That said I was extremely disappointed in my last experience. I had a 6:15 apt after work before an important event. I was stuck in traffic and running late– something I try extremely hard to avoid as a principle. when I was less then 5 min away they gave me a call and said that since I was 15 min late they would have to cancel my apt. No attempt to reschedule for a later time that night. I get that they have policies in order to ensure the next client gets in and out on time. BUT this is what pissed me off– I arrived to the salon hoping to get squeezed in the store was closed. When I booked my apt in the morning they had listed appointments up until 7 so had I booked a later apt they would have been open.
They didn’t want to reschedule me later or wait for me to get there because they wanted to close and go home.
This isn’t a real hair salon– it’s a blow out bar. It’s supposed to be easy for clients and they offer walk in apts. they made things harder and their times are arbitrary. I can’t relay on them and the customer service was very dismissive and lacking. I doubt I’ll be back.

Update! If you come to Blo please see Marie or Jasmine. They are the best senior stylists and they listen to you as a client. And best of all they remember how you like your hair styled. They are both cool and easy to talk to.
I have been going go Blo for about a year. It has its upsides and things they can work on like any other salon.
The things that are good are:
1) The senior stylists are pretty good and take good care of your hair.
2) Reasonable prices-​but you get what you pay for.
3) High quality tools and products which really make a difference to a blowout.
The things that they could improve on:
1) Offer another product line besides Unite.
2) Add more perks to the Blo membership. The blowouts don’t rollover, you don’t get U Luxury or any deep conditioning. I’ve lost so much money on this membership so I had to cancel it.
3) More training for stylists. Some of the stylists really don’t know how to do a blow out. Also, some of the stylists are straight up rude. As a long term customer who has brought clients to the salon, I don’t come to get lectured at, to be told what they aren’t going to do etc. This isn’t true for every stylist but the nasty ones ruin it for the ones who are professional and good at their jobs.
I’m glad that I found a closer option than Drybar so I will come back occasionally to get a blowout.

I booked online for a 8:30am appointment. Arrived 20 minutes early and the shop was closed, I was worried. Came back at 8:25am and it was open!!! Greeted, seated, and Marie, the stylist, started her magic. I asked for a messy, beachy, curly look, with a small braid. End result, my hair looks good. Not sure if Marie put enough hairspray /​hold stuff in the hair as I think my hairstyle will be flat in 6 hrs, but for now I am enjoying it. (Actually at 11pm at night, my hair looked fabulous!!! And this morning still has a messy loose curl to it– super impressed!!)
Not sure, I would go back if in the area.

Ask for Jasmine she was wonderful! She took my inspiration photo and sculpted my hair perfectly into a vintage glam style for a black tie DC wedding. She has a great personality to match her talented styling skills. The only downside was about a 15 min wait after they called to push our 4 appointments up. Other than that everything was perfect! Thanks Jasmine.

One of the absolute worst customer service experiences I have ever encountered.
I live in the neighborhood and was hoping for a more convenient good blowout besides DryBar. Unfortunately this is not the place. I had been there once before when I was partly put off by the dated interior and rude receptionist, but was willing to look over those things for convenience, so I gave it a second try. For my 2^nd appointment, I was running late due to unforeseen circumstances — a late nanny, down pouring rain (which forced me to drive) and trying to leave the house for the first time in a long while after just having twins. I was looking forward to 45 minutes of solitude and a little pampering. When trying to explain this to said rude receptionist from my first visit, she wouldn’t even listen and told me I could wait for an open appointment, which they didn’t have, or reschedule and maybe they would refund me for the «cancellation fee.»
My advice to anyone looking — go elsewhere! There are plenty of alternatives with solid customer service and updated interiors in the neighborhood — Dry Bar Georgetown, and a new one opening in Dupont Circle next month, Immortal Beloved, etc.

My friends and I had three appointments for pre-​party makeover. While in route to Blo, they called us and asked if we could reschedule for 45 minutes later. We told them no, and that we were already on our way (our original appointment was in 20 minutes). They told us they were short on stylists and were not going to be able to take us at our appointment.
We got there and they were very nice and even offered us a glass of champagne for delaying our appointment. There were stylists at almost every station so it was clear they just overbooked themselves.
We were eventually seen (one of us was taken 25 min after or apt and the other two, 40 min after). I wasn’t happy with my style at all (I just wanted loose curls and I walked out of there looking like a bit like a grandma with too much hairspray in my hair). My two girls friends looked beautiful and were happy with their styles.
Nice people just not that great at customer service protocol.

Great experience at Blo!
It’s difficult traveling with all of the product and the styling tools necessary to tame my tresses, so I was really happy to find a blowout bar right around the corner from our hotel. I didn’t have to pack a thing.
I scheduled my appointment online (quick and easy), and when I showed up I was offered a beverage and Aunette was ready for me. She shampooed my hair thoroughly (awesome scalp massage!) before the deep conditioning treatment, and then she did a beautiful job styling my hair (there wasn’t a style in the book that was exactly what I wanted, so she patiently let me describe it to her).
Aunette is wonderful. By the end of my appointment my hair was gorgeous and I was completely relaxed. I only wish she were closer to my home!

Wonderful experience!!! Loved my updo & my hairstylist Jalessea:) highly recommend blo for a updo or blowout! It was quick, clean & great service!!!

Loyal Blo Bar-​goer from Miami and am amazed at the consistency that Blo Bar maintains even in a different state. Marie, the stylist did a wonderful job with my blow dry. I would definitely come back again and again when I am back in DC again.

Literally the worst experience!
I’m new to town so I’m looking for a spot to get a great blow out for relaxed hair. I call Blo at 10 to see if I can get a same day appointment. They say 11:15 works. Awesome.
I book it all the way from Capitol Hill to DuPont… on a Sunday… with a track work delay. I’m literally walking up to the door at 11:10 and the receptionist is calling me on my cell phone saying they need to cancel my appointment. No, unacceptable I tell the counter girl.
The girl at the counter is attempting to be accommodating and it’s honestly not her fault. They have told me that another stylist is on the way and can I wait until noon. I’ve waited this long and come all this way, so yes.
This stylist gets here and doesn’t introduce herself. She takes over from counter girl who is attempting to wash my hair. No attention is paid to my scalp, no questions are asked about what’d I’d like done, not even an offer of water. She’s roughly flat ironing my hair, which is really upsetting me.
Finally she asked how I’d like it styled. Somehow that I translated into the worse curl job ever. On top of that, she asks what I should do about my dry ends. Aren’t you the stylist!!!
And then I’m charged full price. NEVER again!
