History

Established in 1972.

I started in the flooring business 44 years ago out of my home while he was still teaching in Chicago. My idea was to educate the customer about the products they were purchasing, sell only quality products at a competitive price and give excellent customer service. I depended on our customers «word of mouth» to help grow the business.

By 1976 I opened our first store in Warrenville, IL. My wife who has a decorating degree managed the showroom for 2 years before I retired from teaching. By 1984, we moved into our present location 4,400 sq. ft showroom and expanded our carpet, tile and flooring product lines to one of the largest in the Wheaton-​Naperville-​Geneva area.

Robert, my son, now manages the business. He has worked in the business from the ground up and has over 20 years experience. Today, we continue to service our commercial & residential customers with the same core principles we built our business on 42 years ago.

we had flooring and carpeting installed in a timely manner, the job so far looks good, but trying to contact and get a reply or an answer back is almost impossible, after numerous attempts through e mail, calls and a letter attached with the final payment I have not heard from a single person with the questions that we have with the/​about the installation and the names of the flooring that was laid down, no it is not on the contract, but I would think that if one wants to continue to have referrals and other work done, that they would keep an open line of communication for I thought that those involved were very nice and helpful prior to the final completion of the job, but I am disappointed that no one has the kindness to respond and it has been several months and I am still waiting and it is an important matter, and this does affect the rating for it isn’t really a complete job.

We spent quite a bit of money remodeling two bathrooms about six years ago, complete gut job, all high end materials. Our contractor used this store, where we chose flooring and tile for both baths. Well, time is the best judge of any home remodeling job, because they almost all look great immediately after installation. Unfortunately, the installer did not grout and caulk properly, causing leaks from the master shower into the drywall outside. We are now faced with tearing out large sections of drywall, repairing the grout and caulk, replacing the drywall and painting the walls. I can imagine some changes after six years, but this is clearly ridiculous, and a sign of shoddy workmanship. The other thing I want to mention about our experience was that the tile salesman was really pushing us to use white grout, in spite of the fact that the color schemes in both baths are earthy, and white would have looked too bright and frankly, awful. He talked about how white is so easy to match if you ever have to regrout! Maybe that should have been a clue that their work doesn’t last. I would recommend my fellow Unilocalers beware of this store, but in particular, their installers.

I have bought hardwood flooring twice, and cork flooring once from them over the past 6 years. All three experiences were very positive. While all my projects were DIY, they still gave me great service and prices.

Exploring Flooring did a fabulous job installing carpet in a our new home! Our realtor highly recommended them and we were very happy with the job. John was our salesman and he was very patient throughout the process of choosing our carpet. We had to order the carpet before we closed on our house and he was very accommodating with our timeframe. The installers did a fabulous job and we could really see how highly skilled they were compared to different store we used a few years back. Exploring Flooring is great!
