Fujian was a nice/cheap place to for decent bento boxes, sashimi, and nigiri. not the greatest but a good value. alas, you can fu-jian about it now. phone is disconnected and no longer in service.

Lunch To Go Order: Katsu Doburi — Waaaaaay too salty. Katsu was pounded so thin that you can barely taste the meat. Even the rice was salty. Kaki Fry — 6(?) huge pieces of frozen oysters, the bbq-ing kind not the regular kind. Fried well, but there’s something in the crust or on the oyster itself that made my mouth feel dry and yucky miso soup that came with my order was again… super salty. edammame wasn’t crunchy(i.e. not fresh tasting). salad seemed okay On a separate note, service was excellent and very nice.

5 stars because the husband and wife team running this restaurant are super sweet. And of course, I dig the food. I usually get a California Roll and Chicken Teriyaki Lunch Box, and it is always fresh and delicious(and the portion is generous). The California Rolls are a little different(taste?), but I can’t get enough of them. I’ve dined-in with friends, and everyone has always enjoyed their food. I’ve had their sushi rolls, and they’re fresh and tasty. They make a mean futo maki as well. Give them a try!(where else can you get lunch in Walnut Creek for just under $ 10?!)

With a choice of indoor or outdoor seating makes this is a pleasant place to stop for lunch. The outside tables are temping, However, it was a bit chilly the day we went so we sat inside. The lunch menu offers several choices of bento boxes. They include: rice miso soup, salad, green beans and either tempura or a California roll. I chose the sesame chicken. The moist chicken pieces were covered with a teriyaki sauce and sesame seeds. I had the roll and Linda had the tempura. We both thought the miso soup was delicious. Her tempura proved to be a better choice than the California roll. The roll was just okay; the tempura was very good. I enjoyed the crisp green salad. The one green bean cut in sections was also good

I would come here because it is a short walk from the company I used to work at when I needed a Japanese food fix. The owner and waiters are nice and they have a decent selection for their lunch menu, but minus a few stars due to quality. Back before I pursued a vegetarian diet, I would order tempura and sashimi from their lunch menu. You can select two items along with a side of edamame, rice, salad, gyoza, and miso soup for a complete meal for $ 7.95. It was alright the first few times, but it would be a hit or miss kind of thing. Some days the tempura was good, some days it was TOO greasy(I understand it’s deep fried but they could have attempted to let the oil drip out of it a bit more). Some days the sashimi was alright, other times it was like rubber. I ultimately stopped going after I heard the microwave going on in the kitchen heating up my edamame. That was pretty disappointing. The edamame that day was hot and dried out. After all that I figured this place was not worth it to me. Sucks, because I want to like this place, but it is hard for me to like it when they don’t have good quality food. I think the owners are Chinese, but they say«Irasshaimase!» which means«welcome» in Japanese. It’s cute. Sometimes they play Chinese music. Sometimes I wonder if the other customers know that they are in a non-Japanese owned Japanese restaurant because of it. It’s kind of funny. Overall, I’ve experienced better. This place has a lot of potential if they work on their food more. They have a good location, kind staff, and a cute space to work with. They could use a revamp. Until then though, I probably won’t come back. :/

Stellar service! The woman waiting on us was very kind, definitely a gracious host. As far as the food, the veggie sushi I had was tasty. The tempura wasn’t my favorite. Needs a bit more batter, or perhaps more time in the fryer for more crunch on the outside. The edamame was very fresh. Now that the weather is getting colder, you should stop by for some hot tea, miso soup, and genuine smiles.

Fujian will also have a place in my heart(Spencer and Helen let me work from the one summer while I was in undergrad and back in town). Walnut Creek has changed a lot over the past few years. Big box retail and food chains have moved in. But fighting the wave of new restaurants are a series of small mom-n-pop places fighting the good fight. If you’re looking for a friendly, laid back atmosphere to fulfill your sushi craving, this is the place to go. What makes this place stand out is the service for husband and wife Spencer and Helen. While Helen is always in the front of the house chatting it up with people, Spencer is the mad sushi scientist in the back. The best place to sit is at the counter. Spencer is initially a shy guy, but once he gets talking, he starts to open up. Whenever I go back I’ll order the same things. But with a glint in his eye, Spencer will always ask me, «Do you want to try something new?» And with just that, he’ll start cutting, rolling, flame throwing some new concoction together. Fujian has been there for over a decade. Can you imagine doing the same thing for over 10 years and STILL excited to create new combos? It just shows how much Spencer enjoys what he does. Check out Fujian, and if you’re adventurous, tell him that you want to try something new that he’s working on.

Spencer and Helen are GREAT. They welcome everyone as part of their family. Their lunch box specials for 8.00 is way more then enough for lunch and still have some to take home. :) Spencer makes masterpices right in front of you. We go there at least twice a month.

The sushi rolls at Fujian were pretty terrible. The rice was really mushy, the spicy tuna wasn’t spicy, the fish didn’t melt in my mouth or have a good flavor, etc. etc. 2 stars though for good service and for not making me sick.

We got denied our snowboarding trip to NorthStar the other day — it was white out all the way past Placerville with chains/cables & we turned around right before the SR89(closed 5 mi north of I-50). We were dropping off our friends and saw this sushi restaurant. Came by to grab a bite to make myself feel better — on the road for over 7 hours — saw snow — felt snow — didn’t get to snowboard. GRRR! Sushi makes me happy so I decided to make myself happy. It was pretty busy on a Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. with more than ½ the restaurant/sushi bar w/customers. Clean & well lit inside. Complimentary edamame — super cold Sapporo while we waited for our to-go orders. Someone ordered a teriyaki chicken dish & it smelled divine! The portion looked pretty generous too. But, again, I was here to make myself happy again so sushi/sashimi only please. Got home & ate some fresh melt in my mouth salmon & tuna sashimi — tasty Yummy Yoda specialty roll(my fave at this place) & tasty Special Mommy roll. Definitely swinging by this joint again next time we head up to NorCal for our annual trip!

The food alone was probably 2.5 stars but the service was outstanding. I felt like i was eating at my grandma’s house they were so nice! Lured in here by the huge $ 6.952 item bento box lunch deal. My friend and i each ordered the lunch box and shared the super dragon roll. The roll itself was just ok– too much sauce and rice and not enough eel. The box was average as well, the potstickers were deep fried and very greasy and even my saba shioyako taste really oily as well. However, their house dressing for their salad was tangy and very tasty. Now on to the service. They brought us complimentary edamame when we got there and checked on us probably wayy too many times– i didn’t mine though, they were so polite and our waters were filled up after 3 sips. We had a lot of food leftover but didn’t want to carry it around shopping, so the owner offered to pack it up for us and store it at the restaurant and we could come back and eat it after shopping– who does that? That is what i call going beyond your average customer service. 4 stars for caring so much about your customers

Food was good, probably the best for your buck, sushi wise, in Downtown WC. I ordered a roll(Arizona I think? Phoenix?) and a box dinner to share. The food was tasty, but the waitress was little… off? We were one of two parties there for dinner but the service was super slow and inattentive– the guy behind the sushi bar paid more attention to our orders and we were at a booth 8 feet away! If it weren’t for him, this would be a two star, because I really don’t think I would have gotten my food. Only went in because a group of 20-somethings were on their way out and said«You’ve got to try the YamiYoda roll!» All in all, could have been worse. Love me some crispy things and avocado on my fish!

Hmmm… want to find a place for lunch during the work-week w/o having to spend $ 10 for it in downtown Walnut Creek & actually get full? Then you should consider Fujian’s Lunch Box special for $ 6.95! LOCATION: On Bonanza St btw Locust & N Main St; right next to Havana Restaurant. About 3-blocks walking distance from Broadway Plaza Shopping Center. RESTAURANT: Spacious & clean. Plenty of 4-seater tables w/armless chairs. Prob 5 – 7 spacious booths also. Small Sushi Bar area, but there is one. Scotty D took a perfect shot of this place back in ’07.still looks like this honestly CUSTSVC: Simple, polite, & thorough. Immediately greeted & seated upon entrance. Not heavily crowded, but a few patrons already sitting in for lunch. After we placed our order, waitress came back w/some Edame for our table, although we didn’t order; guess Edame treated like breadNbutter for patrons =) Prompt w/bringing our drinks/food, prob 1 – 2 check-in during our lunch… although had to flag the lady down to give us our tab when we were done. LUNCHBOX: Lunch for 3 on Thur(9÷3÷09) just before the Labor Day Weekend, & we all opted for the Lunch Box *tee-hee*. My friend got the Chicken Teriyaki &CA Roll , my colleague got the Beef Tempura & Tempura , & I got Sesame Chicken &CA Roll Food was fresh, hot, good, & definitely plentiful for 1-person =) FINALBITE: Our final tab came to about $ 24-n-change for 3 lunch boxes, 1 soda, &2 waters. Would I come back? Absolutely, & I’d recommend the Lunch Box *tee-hee* — — — — — — Sushi Rolls Menu 1 Sushi Rolls Menu 2

I came here recently for a quick lunch with my mother and a family friend. Since I gave up meat for Lent, I am all over the sushi during this time of the year. Ordered a rainbow roll, and two other maki sushi(I think a 49ner Roll and an I Love You roll??? I forget) But the service was decent as was the food. I will go back if in the area and craving sushi!

Perhaps I’ve been spoiled by my favorite sushi place… where for the most part I know what to expect, treated like at the very least a B-list star, and where it’s usually packed. When you see a restaurant mostly empty on a Saturday night around 8 p.m., I don’t think that this bodes well, but as there was an absence of cougars & d-bags, and we were craving sake, we entered. I ordered my usual kappa maki roll, and was pleased to see that they had beef katsu, although our server asked me about six times if I really wanted it… for some reason people were confused by it in the past. The entertainment got a bunch of rolls that he eventually devoured. My kappa maki roll was disappointing as it seemed like there was just too much rice, but again, I’m spoiled. The hot sake was okay and got the job done, but being used to free refills is not good in any other place. The beef katsu was not bad, but I’ll definitely try something else next time. Apparently this place is known for their sake bombs, as evidenced by those who came in subsequent to us. Thankfully by that point we had killed 3 large sakes between us, so the angry edge at their loud behavior was not there. Not horrible, but not the best.

I went here again with a friend and found the sushi to be very lacking. The crab was bland and tasteless and there was so much rice in each roll I almost choked several times. The Kappa Maki also tasted a little strange. While the price is a bit better than the other sushi places in Walnut Creek, I don’t think I’ll be back.
