Cycle Scape

This place rocks! We’re in town for a few days and thought to try it out. Best workout ever! William had a great high intensity workout. The place is great — everything you need for a quick, high energy spin class. We’ll be back!

I have taken two classes here after trying a couple at Flywheel in Walnut Creek and everything about this place is inferior, but not necessarily cheaper. At $ 20 a class, $ 200/​mo if you commit to 6months or more and $ 250 per month without a commitment I would expect it to be really nice. The layout is off-​putting in that there isn’t a private changing area, just some benches in the hallway, the bathroom is one large stall and one laughably small stall and only one shower. They don’t need the 6 or so showers that Flywheel has because they don’t draw the same crowds that Flywheel does. I didn’t dry my hair after a shower because there is nowhere to do it except the shower room and I felt bad loitering in the only shower.
I got an OK workout, on par with the free Spin class I can take at 24 Hour Fitness. The bikes were gym quality with the rotating nob to change resistance. If you go to spin classes often or are trying to get in better shape you will want to track your progress which is hard to do with with these type of resistance nobs. The biggest annoyance was their sound system and mediocre teachers. Throughout the workout I kept feeling like someone’s kid sister was filling in for a class, both instructors seemed like amateurs who only knew a few moves. There was also no thought put in to choosing music with a beat to match the moves or to get the class amped up. The teacher tried to amp up the very disengaged class by turning the music up louder as the class went on. The deafeningly loud music and relatively low instructor volume coupled with T. V shows meant I hardly noticed the teacher at all. They had some snowboarding videos on and then a show about music festivals which was entertaining but not really conducive to a hard workout. The teacher kept stopping us to rest or so she could yammer on about something or to do some silly arm moves with a 4-​pound bar.
This place is great if you want to spin in a clean place with free parking, but don’t feel bad if you sit in the back, tune out the teacher and do your own thing when you get bored or inevitably start watching the giant T. V in front of your face. I would never pay for a class here, but there’s no harm in doing the free trial or visiting on ClassPass.

They don’t push you, so you can go on your own pace. It is a really good workout, definitely came or sweating.
It’s a new business, so it’s not to busy YET!

Not sure what all the hype is all about. I know a few of my friends love this place, so maybe I’m missing something here (and apologies to my friends if you’re reading this), but my sister and I came for a ride a few weeks ago, and we really didn’t enjoy it.
First of all, the SCREENS. When I’m working out, I REALLY really really don’t want to be surrounded by videos of half-​naked teenagers raving at nightclubs for 45 minutes. Like, seriously?! How has no one in the reviews mentioned this?! Am I supposed to be motivated by girls in bikinis pouring alcohol all over themselves to cycle faster? 90% of the time, I felt like I was in a bad karaōke bar. And some of the images… I would have felt pretty uncomfortable to bring someone under 16.
Also, pretty annoyed that shoes were not provided.
The good: the instructor was friendly and energetic, but I didn’t break a sweat… likely because the bikes didn’t have any way to monitor my speed or resistance, but still. It wasn’t intense enough for me.
Back to Flywheel it is for me.

I was very recently introduced to indoor cycling and this wonderful studio is where I really enjoy going!
I really enjoy walking into Cycle Scape and seeing this lovely studio. It’s always clean! The photos on the wall are beautiful. The music and and cycle room make me feel very comfortable when I’m working hard in the class.
I really enjoy going to Sam and Williams class. Both of these instructors train you differently and that’s what I really enjoy. Sam’s class is total power though and William is definitely a beats kind of guy!
Be prepared to sweat! Followed by a shower in their very clean and fully stocked shower rooms.
Anyway, point blank best studio in this area!

Business owner is a FRAUD! Be aware.
We have all been there. That moment when you’re driving along a beautiful road and you notice a cyclist sharing the road with you. The next thing you know you come to a stop sign, stop, but the cyclist keeps going narrowly escaping being hit by oncoming traffic. Instead of being apologetic for not following the law, the cyclist flips off the driver as he rides off. Then you wonder to yourself, why are cyclists so angry… they get to eat unlimited carbs and not put on weight. That’s my dream at least.
I digress. The owner of this joint is exactly like your typical cyclist. He makes his own rules and doesn’t respect others who are sharing the road, even if it is the law.
I took a handful of classes here and they were always empty, maybe two or max three others would be along for the ride.
I decided it wasn’t for me and asked for a refund. The website in which I ordered the rides doesn’t state a refund policy. So, reluctantly the owner (very reluctantly, after many many many many many many many many many many many many many many phone calls on my behalf, after hearing him talk and complain about how I gave him a bad Unilocal review (duh?!) after discussing our lifetime dreams and aspirations, after discussing what lead us to what we do now, I mean really, we had long conversations about everything and nothing, said he would refund me.
Yet here I am. No refund. «Oh your check is in the mail» «oh I’m surprised you didn’t get it» oh you’re surprised? I guess I would be surprised if I pretended to mail something and it didn’t arrive too. I would also be surprised if I didn’t stop at a stop sign and got hit by a car.
Cyclist mentality I tell you.
So I’m out a good chunk of change. I reported him to the BBB and to my credit card company as a fraud.
And on a very side note — found him to be super condescending when he found out I don’t live in walnut creek. Let me tell you something honey, I was born and raised there. My family is very well off. I earned my MA in psychology by age 24 and my husband and I do quite well financially. He is in real estate so if anyone is interested drop me a message.
Thanks for promising that you will refund me. I’m going to assume since classes were always empty that you just don’t have the money. Or you already spent it. Either way, it’s just bad business.
UPDATE: ever since I posted this review former employees have been writing to me in agreement regarding the owner. So I’m not the only one who thinks he is a complete fool.

Fun, fun, fun… Cycle Scape is doing business right. The employees and instructors are courteous, friendly and very eager to orient you to the cycle world. I really appreciated having my first class free. It allows you to experiment and undoubtedly fall in love with this fast paced exercise which happens to be quite doable. The music is wonderful and you feel like you are inside of a pitch black club. The pitch black room is equipped with two gigantic screens playing videos on the background as your move to a loud contagious beat! I want to go back!

This place is awesome. The workouts always leave you feeling energetic and ready to start the day. I’ve taken classes with Carl and LT (who I don’t think work there anymore) as well as Tamara. My husband and I took Tamara’s class yesterday, and she was good! I definitely think people should try this place out.
Also, the staff is very helpful and knowledgeable.
I’ve only been here about 4 – 5 times, but they always makes sure you’re bike fits you properly and that you have water and towels. The gal working yesterday was really helpful as it was husband’s first time taking a class. She also corrected my form and my bike to fit my size.
William is incredibly kind. He cares about his clientele both inside the gym and out.

I LOVE IT HERE!
STAFF: The staff here is extremely friendly and helpful. Super knowledgeable, nice, willing to answer my questions, and they’re totally willing to work something out with me whenever I miss a payment.
PARKING: The parking lot for this complex ALWAYS has plenty of open spots. I never have issues finding parking. Even if I can’t get one on the first floor, I can always find one on the other floors super close to the elevator/​stairs.
BATHROOMS: Very clean bathrooms and nice aesthetics. Bright while walls and nice tiling. Normally, I don’t like showering anywhere else besides my own shower, but WOW. They keep them super clean and stocked with anything I would need. This is the only gym I have ever showered at.
CLASS: The classes totally kick my butt into shape. I work the typical 40 hour work week and deal with traffic, so I really love that they have later classes most nights, so I can actually work out and not use the excuse «they are closed». I’ve been taking Sam’s classes lately and I LOVE HER ENERGY! And not to mention the music. Most of the trainers have some pretty awesome music to keep you pumped, but I love Sam’s playlist and how she choreographs her workouts to the music. Plenty of slower paced songs to really get my muscles working hard, and then those super pumped up beats that get my heart beating its hardest!
OTHER: They always have plenty of clean white towels and water bottles ready for when you forget (which I do often). Their showers are always stocked with large towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and all kinds of different deodorants/​sprays. They even have a hairdryer for when you really need it. When I get there before the current class is out, I sit and eat the delicious tangerines that they always have in stock, or sip some tea when it’s freezing outside (I love the peppermint one they bought for the holiday season). And they have those HUGE nifty lockers with customizable code locks so I don’t have to bring/​buy my own lock.
THIS PLACE IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST! The staff here really take pride in their work and take care of their customers just as well as they take care of their facility; and it clearly shows.

Get your butts out here to Walnut Creek for a killer workout with some awesome tunes & great instructors! I’ve taken a handful of classes over the last few months, I’d love to be here every other day but life’s at its craziest. Sam & William will make you sweat and push yourself for an awesome workout; did I mention awesome music?! Haha! This has been my escape. You can just leave everything at the door and ride! For anyone looking to get back in shape while having a low impact yet high intensity cardio workout, I highly suggest coming in to try a few classes with different instructors! Here’s your start to a happier healthier lifestyle with a positive mindset to kick off the new year as well! So far I’ve taken 3 class and hands down or should I say up the Beat class with instructor Liam is EVERYTHING! My absolute favorite, this has just the right amount of cardio and resistance.

So… ok…no problem when I sign up for a FREE class online, I figured that out, really easy. I did my research and all. So, today, after driving a gentleman I decided to come in and check this place out. I WAS going to do a class this evening… BIG PROBLEM…
What? No one there to greet me? Or maybe give me a tour? This is a total turn off for me. Why would you not have someone up front? Or at least there to show someone around. Also, when I was there walking around I heard the class going on and it sounded LOUD…
Cycle Scape. friendly advice… I’ve worked customer service and retail… ALWAYS have someone up front to greet perspective members… customer service=more members… trust me I know.

I love supporting local business and Cycle Scape is a great one! They have really welcoming and energetic staff and instructors. They make sure you have a rough workout and have fun at the same time.
The space is new and clean and it doesn’t stink off sweat like some older studios do. You can rent shoes here or just wear regular sneakers. There are only a few showers so you do want to make sure you get in line early during peak hours.
I usually take classes on Sunday morning so it is not too crowded. Highly recommend to other fellow cycle enthusiasts!

I’m in love with this place!!! it’s small but mighty. I just started going but william (the owner) is so amazing! so much energy, and is just FUN! i’ve never done a «proper» spin class before so I can’t compare it to the bigger studios like soul cycle, but that is a wonderful place to check out! The class packages are a SUPER great deal and they even do student discounts!!! Classes are offered at great times and the parking is REALLY easy!!!
We need this place to survive walnut creek since it’s not a franchise, but individually owned & operated! Can’t wait for my next class!

This is only based on one class. I’d been looking for a closer, cheaper alternative to SoulCycle and this place had awesome reviews.
I went in on a Saturday morning and it wasn’t crowded. The facilities are nice and clean and the staff is pretty good.
The class itself was average. I got a good workout, but the energy in the room wasn’t there for me. The instructor was not the one I signed up for and I didn’t get a notification of a changed instructor.
It seemed like the instructor was trying new exercises out. The counts were difficult to keep up with (and it wasn’t just me!) and by the time the class got a hang of the exercise and timing, the instructor would move onto some new move.
The music was also just average, and we didn’t «move to the music» at all. It’s just loud in the background.
I might be back if I really want to go to a boutique spin class and not have to go all the way to the city or Palo Alto. I definitely would choose a new instructor though.

I was not super thrilled with cycle scape. I’ve tried soulcycle and ride oakland, and cycle scape was by far the poorest. First, the workout is only 45 minutes which is ok, but I found that there was a lot of down time during the workout and a lot of breaks taken to do things like clapping and «figure eights» and other weird choreography that serves no real purpose. I was most disappointed in the weight segment which consisted of lifting a weighted bar up and down a few times on each side. It really seemed like the instructor was just «winging it» with the workout and doing whatever popped into his mind. Minus 1 star because they don’t provide shoes, for rent or otherwise. I will say the facilities are nice with clean bathrooms and a shower. Maybe with better instructor training the quality will get better, but I won’t be back to find out.

I am PASSIONATE about this place. The location, the instructors, the owners, the studio — all impeccable and incredible. You can tell from the second you walk in that is a team that loves to work together!
I am an instructor here and I LOVE to provide consistently challenging classes to keep the members pumped up and ready to come in to sweat. This is hands down, the best place I’ve ever worked. Cycle Scape is so focused on giving their members the best experience possible, day in and day out. I am SO proud to be part of such an amazing team of people. I am leaving in October and will truly, truly miss this place. But the good news is even though I’ll miss working with the members here, I know they’ll still have a phenomenal experience at this studio.

After my first class I decided to buy the 10 pack for $ 150. I have been twice and have only taken Nicole’s class because I love her energy and she kicks your butt! I have heard she is one of the hardest instructors too, but cannot say from personal experience since I’ve only been in her class. I love the high energy music and the video they play on the screen. Nothing like watching some hot people having fun to keep you motivated. I am dripping sweat when I leave there and even though it is only 45 minutes you will feel like you had a great workout! Nicole is very sweet and more than willing to help adjust the bikes so don’t be afraid to ask. They provide towels and lockers.

Really bummed Nicole is not there anymore. I’ve taken 2 other instructors and they were nowhere near as good as Nicole’s class or energy. I took the Power class this morning and it was ok. Pretty good work out but I missing the weights and the energy. I have to finish my package so I will try more classes and see how that goes.

Went to a cycle class with LT last night, and it did not disappoint! The parking was amazing, easy to find and such a great location downtown! The studio was extremely clean and we were greeted by the owner, William. He was so nice and personable, really made us feel welcome. Plenty of locked lockers to put your stuff and nice bathrooms with a shower in case you’re on the go and catch a quick class on your lunch break!
The class was great, LT was super energetic and passionate. The music was perfect, helped me keep motivated, and they have two large projection screens that were a great distraction during those hills! I ended up buying a package afterwards because I loved it so much and William helped me find a package that was perfect for me.
Again the location is perfect! Went and got dinner downtown afterward and celebrated with some wine! Overall such a fun experience can’t wait to go back for another class!

I don’t usually write updates on my 5 star reviews unless I feel really passionate about the business that I want to say more about it; Cyclescape made that super rare list.
I bought a 10 class package at the end of January but then got some crappy cold virus that lingered for about 6 weeks, lame sauce, I know. I emailed the owner, William, and he was super nice about it and gave me another month extension on my package. I’ve had multiple interactions with William at the studio and he’s always been really warm, down to earth and genuinely interested in talking. I feel that a business will blossom when they truly invest in their community with their heart (look at me, all sappy) because the community will invest back in the business.
The front desk staff and instructors are really fantastic. I always feel that I get a great workout in 45 mins and love that I can efficiently burn some calories (die, fat cells, die) and get out in a zip and back home to my doggies. Yeah, I’m one of those pet parents that always feel guilty when I leave the dogs at home for too long.
They always have those delicious little clementines at the front door with hair ties and gum free for their patrons. Thoughtful little touches like that are appreciated. If you have read this far, get your butt in there and come out rocking the sweaty afterglow that you know you are proud to show off (look everyone, I worked out).
Combined with taking barre class, this place is getting me closer toward my fitness goals. Plus, you get feel good vibes here! Just don’t go eat a burger afterwards like I do, or eat one *shrug*. Rock on, friends!
