Half Moon Coffee and Grille Cafe

I wish I could get behind this Place and love it bc it’s in such a great location. But. I just can’t. The girls who work behind the counter are Miserable, the girl who took my coffee order couldn’t even be bothered to look at me, barely said hello or thank you. I saw it with other employees and other customers too, the staff all bothered by someone placing an order. Anyway, my experience here only solidified why i hate going here.
They have so many tables jammed in there, I can’t imagine what dinner is like, it has to be a jumbled nightmare. I don’t know what everyone loves about this place bc the food I’ve eaten from here is nothing special at all.

This is a tough one because the waitstaff is terrible, and quite rude (I didn’t know what to say when the women barked «follow» when directing us to our table and didn’t tell us we had to order at the counter so we sat waiting for menus), and I was quite aggravated by the time our food was ready. Because they forgot to serve us, our pizza and salads sat on the counter and then everything came out at once. The tables are so small that there was no room for everything. But then I tasted the antipasto! I ordered it with goat cheese and the flavors were amazing! Best I have ever had. My son ordered a salad with chicken and shrimp and he said it was great. The margarita pizza was undercooked and had to much cheese but the flavor of the sauce was so good I would give the pizza one more try. And I would order to go!!! So food is a close 4 but service is a close 1!

Great little café for afternoon lunch with limited outdoor seating. The food is great — they have a huge selection and quick service. I love the spinach wrap and enjoyed some gelato today as well. Definitely one of my go to lunch spots in Wallingford!
The only reason I went for a 3 star review is the service (specifically the attitude of the staff members). They are not helpful and are often very rude. If you can get past that, the food is worth the stop.

Came in for lunch on a Saturday afternoon, and yes they were pretty busy. I read the reviews prior to going in. And I think, yes, the food has to be rated separately from the wait staff.
My besty had the Grilled Eggplant panini, which was done very well, great flavor, large portion. I had their turkey and avocado wrap I even asded goat cheese (sorry dont remember the exact name) but once again very very tasty. The iced Chai tea is amazing, a little sweet, but refreshing. And someone else mentioned the pasta salad, I cant recommend it, the pasta is cooked nicely, it also has corn and lima beans, but theres not really a taste to the salad as a whole, I feel as if its simply something to throw on the plate when you dont order a side item.
I do think that the wait staff do leave a lot to be desired as they do move very quickly. But once you can catch one of them, they do bring what you’ve asked for
As a whole the food will probably prompt me to return atleast once more. So I’ll definitely give the food a solid 4 and the wait staff a solid 3.

A nice combination of sandwich shop pizza parlor and gourmet eatery. While the pizza could be cooked a little more on the charred side (don’t be afraid of burned ends-​), the food and service are a step above the rest of the strip of eateries in this neighborhood.

Penne ala vodka is bomb, wish they offered it with chicken. Salads are great, pizza is great. However, the pasta salad that comes with the wraps and paninis is very bland, most of the time I won’t even eat it. No flavor what so ever. You can tell they add no seasonings it’s literally cooked pasta, pickled vegetables and maaaaybe a little olive oil if we’re lucky. If I want penne ala vodka though I’m coming to half moon every time guaranteed.

I am tired of the attitude they never listen to the customer when they are ordering. Do not ever tip. This is the last time I will ever go. If someone asks about your business I will say you can stomach the food but the attitude will put a sour taste in your mouth.
Worst service

So happy my boyfriend and I stumbled upon this place! We first went to try out the coffee and loved it. When we got coffee we saw they made pizza, so we ordered a buffalo chicken pizza the next week for pick-​up. It was amazing! The best buffalo chicken pizza we’ve had in the Meriden/​Wallingford area so far. We will be back for sure!

4 stars for food yet –3 for terrible service. I’ve decided that even though I like the food, I can’t bring myself to go here anymore because of the attitudes of the staff. Plenty of other options, especially on this street.

Stopped in for dessert — this is on a quant ‘main street’ boulevard, great place to walk off dinner!
Had the Mimosa cake, a huge slice, definitely enough for two+ ! The sponge cake cubes on top were a little dried out, but the rest made up for it, nice fruit layer, like ‘Jello salad’ in between two sponge cake layers. There were about a half dozen other pastries, nothing that got my attention, and they have gelato, but none of those (chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, etc.) stirred my imagination, either. Maybe I was just too full from the huge dinner I had down the hill at Knuckleheads. ;)
Sumatra coffee was luscious!

It’s pretty good. Pizza, sandwiches, steaks, pasta. A little of everything. Order at the counter and then they bring you your food. Byob too.

Great food. Fresh and well made. Some don’t like waiting in line to order but the food is worth it. I like that it’s BYOB because it keeps the price down. Staff is friendly too.

Staff is not friendly but their food is good. The few times I’ve been in here I’ve been greeted with a huge attitude, like they’re doing me a favor by taking the order. I’ve had to ask about the wait time for one of my dishes and again, attitude.
It could be a great place to meet friends for a casual lunch or dinner but the cold, harsh environment prevents me from going back. If the manager or owner happens to see this I’d recommend hiring new staff.

Okay so based on the food alone, this place deserves a five out of five. The pizza there is incredible, and my favorite is the margarita pizza. My mouth waters just thinking about it! The pasta is phenomenal, and their coffee is actually quite good. The problem here is the staff. I’ve heard numerous people having bad encounters with them because they are just rude. I’ve had a couple unhappy experiences myself, and wish they would clean up their act a bit because they are so good. It’s byob which is fun too. If you don’t have to talk to the staff much then it’s a home run!

This place is awesome!
Food was good for a café and prices were insanely reasonable. 7 bucks for a 12″ cheese pizza! That is the best you will find around. Wraps and fries were on the average side for pricing.
Parking is a nightmare infront, but you can park in back of the plaza and cut through the alleyway.
Restroom was clean. Very clean.
Staff was extremely nice; however, one of them reached on the wall behind me to grab something and saw I was Unilocaling and said excuse me in a very shocked and «what are you doing» type manner. Maybe I am just paranoid, but I felt like it was a taboo to be taking photos while in this place…
Seating is a bit tough here. There are about 10 – 20 tables inside and 2 outside, but their food is very easy for takeout. Need more proof of the food? As always, check out my pics.

Great variety of choices and great food! I came here around 12 on a Friday and was in and out within an hour or so.
All of the food was delicious and there are many tables to sit at. There is also outdoor seating, which I think looks great in the small plaza where Half Moon is located.
The only reason why I didn’t give it five stars is because we asked for our appetizer to come out before our entrée, which did not happen. No big deal, but my father’s tuna was also over-​cooked, which he still enjoyed but definitely not as much.
I am excited to go back and try something new from their large list of specials!

This place is a hidden gem. Looks small from the outside but plenty of seating inside and outside when it’s nice out. They have a normal menu and a huge specials board. Great concept of ordering and byob. We enjoyed a fried calamari wrap which was out of this world. never seen anything like that on a menu. Generous portions and good prices.

I’ve only been here once but I will definitely be returning. I ordered the Chicken Caesar Wrap and it was deliciously fresh. It was served with a side of pasta salad, which was perfect with the wrap. The only negative comment I have is that they tend to take long making the food, but if you’re patient then it’s worth it in the end.

An easy, casual place to go, offering anything from a coffee + pastry to imaginative pasta dishes. I enjoy going because of the fair prices and BYOB policy. The atmosphere is usually vibrant. I recommend any of their pizzas, and specials are also a good way to go.

a spur of the moment decision to grab a bottle of wine and head over. So glad we did. We have never had a bad experience here. We know how the tables work, the ordering up-​front and kind of listening to the hustle and bustle of the staff. Thats what the ambiance is al about.
Most times I go I ask for them to make a simple grilled salmon over vegetables or a salad — never has this been an issue — and its always so so good! My wife likes the gnocchi and I admit taking a forkful or two!
We had a most pleasant evening, chatted with some of the staff as they hustled by!
