Siebert Realty

This is the second time we have rented through Siebert and we have always had a good experience. This year we rented a large 7 bedroom oceanfront home for the Christmas holidays, Sea Castle. The home was large, comfortable and nicely outfitted. We did have to call maintenance about our refrigerator and Siebert sent somebody within 30 minutes to take care of it. Bedding was provided even though it was off season, so that was a huge help keeping the costs down. Our only tiny complaints would be the lack of decent cooking utensils (dollar store stuff that was broken and/​or inadequate) and the lack of a blu ray player. Every room does have a DVD player but like many I’m sure, we’ve had a blue ray for a number of years, so we weren’t able to play any of the movies we brought. However, the game closest is well stocked and we had plenty to do. Great home! Good service! Easy check in and check out and amazing location! Can’t beat it for a large family get together!

I would give this less than one if possible.
We live in VA Beach and are in the process of building a house, so when we were getting ready to close on the sale of our current home and needed a temporary place to live (91 days or so), a winter rental in Sandbridge seemed perfect.
Well, my first discovery was Siebert Realty has a total monopoly on Sandbridge homes, which would be fine if they were a functional business.
There is one woman you have to deal with for winter rentals– Michelle Balducci. She literally didn’t respond to my phone calls. So I had my agent reach out to her, and she responded fairly quickly to her telling her she’d be glad to help us as soon as we filled the application out and paid the $ 50 fee.
So, we did. Her response was a quick to say the owners of that house didn’t want to allow our non-​shedding dog even with an additional deposit. It was so quick, I can almost promise that she never even told the owners we were interested. She suggested another home available about a week after our requested date which allowed dogs though, and we said we were interested. That was the last we heard from her until my agent discovered she rented that house to another family.
So, she sucks. Horrible customer service and absolutely terrible communication skills. Thank goodness for VRBO or we would be homeless right now thanks to her AND we paid their horrible business $ 50 for absolutely no reason.
The other issue I learned was there is a 90 day minimum on winter rentals (which we were meeting), but none of the owners want to rent for just that 90 days. I can definitely understand that– but they need to change their guidelines if no one is going to rent out to someone needing 90 days (the same goes for Sandbridge realty as well).
Two thumbs down for Siebert.

We are currently staying at a Siebert rental property in Sandbridge and are quite frustrated with the lack of quality service. For the second year in a row we have rented a house for the week of thanksgiving and although there is an advertised fireplace, there is no gas for the fireplace. We have called the company three times now (now they refuse to answer the phone) and we have received three different answers about fixing the fireplace. We have spent excellent money and demand that we get proper service. They do not follow through with service nor do they make sure the houses are properly stocked and working.

We had a great time at Sandbridge Beach — and will return again but Seibert Realty won’t be getting my business. We didn’t have the most expensive property, nor did we have the least expensive. But, in my mind, every house in their rental system should be equipped and maintained to the same standards.
I live locally and planned a large family event — I went to the property early to set up. When I drove up to «When East Meets West» I was immediately confronted by garbage cans in the driveway so I could not pull in — I needed to get out and put them away (this concerned me since garbage day was days ago — doesn’t an employee or cleaning crew do a walk through of every house before it is rented?).
My first impression of the house was disappointing. It looked shabby and rundown. The discarded beer cans and bottles littering the walkway did nothing to improve my opinion. The house itself was on the ocean and well designed for large groups. On that score it was perfect. However, the interior had seen happier days and did not reflect the online photos (the broken, saggy eyesore of a couch). Quite simply, there was no standard of quality. I have rented vacation homes from different rental companies in various spots as well as being an owner of a lake house that was in a rental management company for years. I know what to expect and how it should be done — the right way.
The house was «clean» upon first glance, but dare to look closer and it was evident it needed an extensive deep clean. The oven was dirty. The house smelled musty. Old uncomfortable mattresses that even Fred Flintstone would find uncomfortable. The pictures on the walls needed to be wiped clean. The windows sills were wet with black mold. And the carpet was gross (who has wall to wall thick pile carpet at an oceanfront house? It is impossible to keep clean!!!). We were on the ocean but couldn’t see it because the windows were so filthy — whoever had stayed there prior wrote in the grime so as we looked out to the ocean we saw initials and scribbled words. I know it is hard to stay on top of cleaning windows — especially on the beach but I would guess it had been some time since they were professional cleaned. The handrails were gross to the touch due to build up grime!
Utensils and supplies were difficult to locate. We found the broom at the end of the second day — it had fallen behind the water heater in the laundry room. Perhaps this may be why most of the lamps were missing lightbulbs. So we didn’t have light to inspect too closely.
When I rented my lake house we had an extensive checklist of household items that were required to be on hand and in excellent condition. The rental company would periodically check and if not up to standards they would replace at the owners cost. I assumed a rental home (that I am paying thousands of dollars for) would have certain items on hand — for example:
The essentials which were not provided:
Flashlight with batteries
Functioning Fire extinguisher
Pot holders (do you know how maddening it is to not have potholders to take items out of the oven? We used socks.)
Corkscrew
Broom & dustpan in the kitchen
Dish washing drainer
Sharp usable knives/​Steak knives
Plunger & toilet brush
Clean grill & BBQ tools
Lightbulbs — several lamps had no bulbs!!!
If the house claims to sleep 22 then there should be 22 cups, plates and enough silverware for 22 to use.

Quite simply, the house lacked basic standards of quality… The advertised air hockey and ping pong tables were broken and discarded in the corner taking up space. The advertised game cube and wii did not have games or controllers — did it work? Who knows. There was no reason to turn it on. Bedroom windows would not open or stay open. Wet, black mold was evident on many of the window sills.
I imagine this house would be fine for people who have not traveled extensively and are unaccustomed to standards of excellence. Or a frat party. But for my hard earned money and family vacation time I would look elsewhere.
We alerted the rental company to our concerns when we checked out. Being there for a long weekend, we focused on friends and family, choosing not to call and complain (ONLY because my relatives and guests told me to relax and enjoy — and we were nonstop busy). The agent at Siebert told us nothing could have been done since we were checking out. Fair enough. If we had called during our stay the agency would have delivered a functioning fire extinguisher, broom, air hockey table (?!) and pool table sticks. Would they have cleaned the windows or the black mold from the sills? They offered an apology. Our review is about the principle. Companies need to adhere to higher standards and offer quality. Not assume customers and clients will accept mediocrity.

We have rented a house for 13 years straight in Sandbridge and the house we rented from Siebert is the cleanest and best maintained house we have rented.

Been renting from them for ages. They’ve always been helpful with problems. Were great when the noreaster knocked out power to the house I was in. Helped me find another house where me & my dog could stay til things worked out. You do need to remember that beach houses take a terrible beating from constant weather and lots of tenants. Screens blow out, sand blows in, nails stick up out of decks. Its really just the nature of life at the beach.
