Wicked Hair & Make-Up Artistry

I highly recommend this place! It’s a small place with a quiet and peaceful atmosphere. Brianna did an amazing job– I just asked for a simple cut and she mastered it. she didn’t cut it too short or anything, gave me nice light little layers and made it look so much healthier. She styled it in a way I really liked, it seems like she’s intuitive and understands what look her clients like. It was the best hair cut I’ve had probably… Things always seem to go wrong, uneven, too short, styled awkwardly, etc. The products used smell and work great too, I’m thinking about going back to buy some. I am vegan and this place is definitely my new go-​to place to get my hair done :)

I know this place does AMAZING work by all of their reviews, I just wanted to share my experience in case someone is debating to get hair and make up for their head shots.
I had a photo shoot to go to and had my hair/​makeup done here this past Saturday. Such a cute place with super friendly girls. I honestly would have loved to give 5 stars, but feel that I need to put my experience on here in case I can help someone else debating to get makeup for headshots. Everything looked good from the distance I was in, but once I got in my car, I noticed my eyelashes were severely clumpy (the eyeliner was a little uneven as well, but the eyelashes were what I was stressing about). I had to take off my mascara and redo it myself because it was too clumped and the photographer agreed I have very long eyelashes and it didn’t look very good at all, especially for close up head shots I had to get. Luckily, I had make up remover in my bag and was able to take it off and redo it, but it did start things off shaky and my eyes looked a little smudged (I normally do not where any eye make up except mascaras so having the colored in brows was odd for me too). Also, my hair was curled in super tight spirals after I said I usually have it curled. My pictures were suppose to be natural, and I don’t often where it in spirals like that, so I had to take the time to straighten it out after seeing how curly it looked on camera, and I wasn’t able to get too many pictures from those shots. The girls asked me if I was happy before I left, and I could have spoken up then, so I do take part of the blame. They were very sweet, as I mentioned. I just didn’t check out my eyes up close until my car and I thought my hair would uncurl by the time I arrived, so that is why I didn’t say anything.
As I said, I know this place does great work, you can tell by all the wonderful things said. I just think for up close shots of the face, that will be very detailed in pictures, to be careful. Everything shows on the camera, that is for sure. I ended up paying $ 100 and that is the part I feel most bummed about, and the hardest part to swallow.

Wedding to attend on Saturday (evening) and realized. I have NO clue what to do with my hair or make up?! Let me frantically call around every salon in the area and see if anyone can squeeze me in, RIGHT NOW…
Wicked did! I called, Brianna (I think that’s her name, short blonde hair with kind of a punk hipster vibe) said she could fit me in and boom, made my way over. When I first walked in, I was surprised at how tiny the place was, but I loved it. It felt like a nice mom & pop salon vs a large salon where they just wanna get you in and out.
Told Brianna I wanted to do a natural look, but with smokey eyes since it was an evening wedding. As for the hair, no clue because it was pouring rain! She ended up suggested a side braid which I was totally on board with.
Make up: To start, I never wear a lot of make up, especially not heavy foundation. My skin tends to feel like its suffocating when I have too much gunk piled on. So that was my biggest fear. But Brianna used a mixture of tinted moisturizer and foundation (the brand was called 100% pure) was just right. It added enough coverage so my current blemishes were hidden, without making me feel like I had a layer of cake on my face. Winning! She ended up doing a golden, smokey eye which I LOVED. As the night went on, my foundation somehow got darker and it didn’t blend in with my neck, but no one else noticed so I lucked out but definitely something to keep in mind/​watch over next time I get my make up done. I got a lot of compliements and I photographed really well that night, so thank you!
As for my hair; we decided to try a side braid, that way it can look «messy» but still nicely set and out of my way. However, once the braid was done it did not look right, so we both decided to take it down and try something else. Ended up with a side «messy» ponytail which she kind of wrapped around and made it look sexy. I loved it. It was easy to manage throughout the night, it STAYED through a whole night of dancing and sweating. and it survived a rainy wedding. =)
Overall, she saved me! Great job, so appreciative that she was able to fit me in that day. Beyond that I shared some great conversation with her and the other lady that was working… what a lovely bunch!
Last note: the bill came out WAY higher than I expected, but that was my fault because I didnt even ask what she charged, as I was just so desperate to find someone to fit me in that same day. My hair & make up came out to $ 150 before tip, something I realistically would’ve wanted to pay $ 75 or $ 100 tops for. But it came out great in the end, which mattered way more than a few $$.

Walked in with no appointment and Brianna was available to freshen up my long, thick hair. She took her time, use textured scissors, gave me great semi-​bangs, and took off several inches without making it look short (ladies, you know what i mean).
$ 70 haircut included blow dry and styling, which is a great price for Venice.
Ambiance was nice, clean, music was good (not loud clubby), and they offered me a beverage (I declined so unsure of what they offer). When I checked out, Brianna gave me a coupon for 20% off my next visit. Also, free bang cut, if needed.

I had my hair and make up done here last weekend for a professional photo shoot. The pictures turned out amazing! Behind all great photos are the people that did your hair and makeup. I can’t say enough great stuff about the two ladies that did my hair and makeup. If I can post pictures I will just to show you how awesome they are.

Brianna at Wicked did my hair for my wedding, and it was PERFECT.
I paid for a hair and makeup trial beforehand, and while the hair turned out really wonderfully, I wasn’t happy with the makeup, so ended up finding a different makeup artist.
Hair-​wise, though, Brianna nailed it. Not to mention, the day of our wedding, she showed up early at the hotel (up in Westlake b/​c we got married at Calamigos Ranch) and was chilllll to be around. She did my mom’s and my maid of honor’s hair as well.
I wish I could post pictures of the hair she did! It was elegant and a little wild and had orchids and clover buds (thanks to my mom) in it. AND, it STAYED. Obviously after two hours of serious dancing, it was falling out a little bit, but HARDLY.
She is a super hair PRO. Highly recommend for wedding hair.

These gals are terrific to work with! I planned my whole wedding from Vancouver, BC, Canada, and found Wicked online. Our wedding was on July 22, 2014 in Santa Monica. Carlynne replied fairly quickly to my email submission considering she had been away on holiday for her own honeymoon! Carlynne made it very easy to book my hair and makeup trial as well as for the big day for my mom, sisters, and niece. I liked how her computer system emailed confirmations for the appointments.
We went to the salon for our hair and make-​up but you can also have them on location as well. We were pretty close to the venue anyway, so we opted for in-​house styling.
Audrey did such a great job with my hair. It turned out perfectly! Both Audrey and Brianna did a great job on all of our hair and they really listened to what each of the girls wanted. Brianna was great while she did hair for my 6yr old niece — I think she was pretty excited about getting her hair curled in a professional chair, though she was a bit shy.
Carlynne did a wonderful job on my makeup — it lasted the whole evening! It looked so natural and not too made-​up — just what I wanted! She did my mom and sisters’ makeup too and they looked fantastic!
The girls kept us on time and even gave us a great suggestion on where to grab a quick bite to eat while we got ready (Flake-​yummy sandwiches). Carlynne and her team are all so nice and personable – not to mention really cool. They’re a fun group to work with and listen to what you want. I’d recommend them to any bride looking for a hair and make-​up team.

I’m both from San Francisco and Los Angeles. These are some of the most articulately driven hair stylist I’ve come across. They make you feel at home while sculpting the look you want. Audrey is an amazing lady who I owe much tribute to on my last cut!

This is truly a place of integrity and excellence. The owner and stylists are very knowledgable about sustainability, that is environment & health for your hair. They have excellent wonderfully performing products and beautifying styling.
Tip: Make sure to ask about the NCP natural color. It’s the most healthy high performing hair color I’ve experienced, and I’ve used them all!

Words cannot describe how amazing these girls are! They were my makeup and hair team for my wedding! They not only made all of us look our best (including me, all the bridesmaids, my mom, my mother in law and my grandmother in law) they also helped ease the nerves, make us laugh and kept us on time.
They are extremely talented with all ages, faces, skin types and hair types. They are very professional. If you are looking for a salon to do your wedding, honestly look no further. I searched and searched for months and this was the only place that made me feel comfortable. They were on time and they set up on location quickly and were ready to get started within minutes.
Leading up to the wedding I had many questions and each one was answered promptly. My hair and makeup trial was a blast! I was dreading going in to be honest and it was a ton of fun. I ended up changing my mind completely and the girls pulled off an entire new look for me on the day of the wedding. I was so impressed. I will forever tell anyone and everyone to go to Wicked Hair and Makeup for ANY service.

I had my first cut and color with Carlynne at Wicked a few months ago and I cannot express how happy I have been. I’ve gotten more compliments on my color than ever before and you know that feels good. A few things I especially love about this place: 1) Carlynne really takes her time. There is no rushing or trying to do two clients at once, which I’ve experienced at other places. You feel like your hair is her art and she really cares about getting it right. 2) It’s purple! 3) they use high quality products with no animal testing 4) if you tell her to just trim your hair she doesn’t cut off two inches anyway like some people do 4) she cuts my boyfriend’s hair too and it’s perfect every time. I think a good male haircut is harder than it looks and a true sign of a talented stylist! I’m going back on Saturday and can’t wait!

Shampoo, haircut, hot towel on the face, mini head massage… really can not be beat for the price — no bull.

I’ve had two experiences with Wicked and both were very positive! The prices are comparable to other salons in the area & in my opinion the results are better than other nearby salons.
First my friend and I went in on a random Thursday and they took us immediately. I got my hair cut and my friend got a bridal hair and makeup test done. My haircut turned out really well (& I’m quite picky). My friends makeup and hair turned out gorgeous.
Due to the beautiful bridal trial run of hair and makeup we decided to have Wicked come and do our hair and makeup for my friends wedding. We had our hair and makeup done at the wedding location in Malibu, Carlynne and Cabrina were on-​time, well prepared and very professional. All of our hair and makeup turned out absolutely gorgeous! These ladies really know what they are doing and they do it well! Worth every penny for looking my absolute best in my friends wedding photos!
Every time I am back in Venice I plan to get my hair cut!

Wicked did the hair & make-​up for my wedding day this past October 4^th on a very busy Friday. Carlynne and her entire team of hairstylists and make-​up artists rocked it! These ladies were super professional, sweet, and friendly! They were worth every penny!
I had been burned by others in my journey to get someone to do hair & make-​up for my special day, but found all I needed at Wicked!
They were so accommodating, welcoming, provided great beverages, and made my beautiful wedding possible.
They were so very sweet to my mom and little flower girl. From the beginning when we did consultations and a practice run they were just perfect! Wicked is my new favorite spot to do my hair, and know my sis and mom will be repeat customers as well.

We used Wicked for some of my bridal beauty services and were very happy! I am familiar with that little strip on Rose (shout out Moon Juice), love the look of the building and the organic and vegan cosmetics. Carlynne did my make up and I loved it, so I hired her to do the bridesmaids, as well! Then added hair for the groom’s mother and sister. Everyone looked beautiful and like their unique selves! I knew a chic little shop in Venice would be able accommodate many styles and I was right! I would recommend them to anyone!

Gonna make it short and sweet.
Was trying to kill some time before meeting with a friend. Passed by this little spot and immediately fell in love with everything about this place. The color scheme, the name, the location! I was certain a quick blow out couldnt go wrong. I have major trust issues with letting anyone assist me with beauty stuff considering I’m a stylist myself, but sometimes you want a little pampering.
The owner had a few of her family members in, waiting to get their hair done too, but she took me before them, I was ecstatic and gracious! I told her my hair had been through alot that week and that it needed a deep wash.
A quick wash, not so pro blow dry and $ 45 dollars later, I walked out with hair that looked, okay… I actually gave her a little tip on what I thought works best for my texture. If she had washed it better, it may have not been so flat, woulda lasted me a few days longer. Didnt hate it, but I wish I loved it more.

A true gem! This adorable and unique salon in the heart of Venice is now my favorite place to get pampered, not only do I go here for my hair, but my husband does too! Carlynne, the owner is just amazing, and is so incredibly talented at her craft as a stylist.
My husband looks 10 years younger every time he gets his hair cut from her as well. They carry awesome products too…
I highly recommend them!

I had an extremely satisfying experience at Wicked a few weeks ago…
I live in the neighborhood and had walked by it many times, and to be completely honest, the exterior was a bit of a turn-off…It looked a little too new-​agey and hippy for me so I just dismissed it right away.
Not exactly sure what made me walk in when I did finally cross that line, but it must have been a combination of despair (my highlights were in a dire need of a retouch) and convenience (I have to walk by Wicked each time I go to the beach)…I just walked in and picked up their menu of services… and said I’d be back.
Well, to be honest, the thing that grabbed my attention first was how reasonable the pricing was… and also the little coupon ($ 20 off) in the bottom… And who doesn’t like a deal?
In any case, NYE was right around the corner and I wanted to look good, so on my way back from my walk to the beach I asked them if anyone was available to do partial highlights and trim that afternoon, and they said yes… Audrey was available.
Well, in the interest of not turning this into a novel, I just wanted to say that this was possibly one of the most enjoyable hair salon experiences. Audrey was very attentive, accommodating, understanding… She took the time to explain things and she followed my instructions… She made suggestions but if I didn’t agree she didn’t try to push her way… And most importantly, she did a great job… Both my highlights and trim (she trimmed exactly how much I told her to) came out looking great… And her shampoo was super relaxing (I love head massages…). She blow-​dried it to perfection… I came out of that place looking amazing. :)
In the end, I only ended up paying $ 130 (the combined service was $ 150-​$ 20 coupon) + tip (I gave her $ 30)…
Needless to say, NYE was a blast and I am definitely coming back again!

Carlynne did my hair and make up and it was awesome (great price)!! The best thing about the salon is they use and specialize in all natural, non toxic and organic products. From the color they use to the products they sell.
Carlynne convinced me to switch from Kerastase (which I loved) to an all natural line called Neuma and I love it.
