Smogs Just Smogs

This guy will gladly rip you off. First he didn’t accept my Unilocal 10 dollar off coupon, and then he ran the smog test even though my car wasn’t ready and needed to go through a drive cycle. Unlike the good guys, who tell you to go drive on the freeway and come back, this guy will swipe your card like everything is fine, and then tell you that you failed. 51 bucks out the window. Tried to come back and have it retested– 21 dollars for a retesting fee?! And a 8 dollar certificate? Do you mean EIGHT DOLLAR RECIEPT to commemorate the worst service ever !? There’s no negotiating with this guy either. Avoid!!! Go to the one two buildings over!

I called to make sure they were open and he asked what KIND of car I had not what YEAR. I show up and he says oh, no your car’s a 1999? You’re going to have to wait. He thinks it will be 20 minutes. After 35 minutes of sitting there, I ask, how much longer? Oh, he doesn’t know he’s waiting for glue to dry. He says he will call me when it’s time to come back. He never called. Waste of time!
If the YEAR is what matters, then ask what year it is before I show up. And maybe don’t let someone sit there waiting for you – maybe you be the one to proactively inform the person of what’s going on since you work there and all. Rude.

OK, you can probably find it for $ 40 all in, but this place is easy in, easy out. Slight attempt at upsell:

Gustavo was very friendly. The test only took about 10 minutes. I told him that I was Unilocaling and found a place on Pico that was cheaper, but that I stopped in here on my way home from work because it was closer. He gave me ten bucks off. He was so nice and there was no wait. Fifty bucks total. Thanks, Gustavo!

One of my problems is that I spend an obscene amount of time researching places, then end up not being able to choose. Smog checks are no exception. I generally find it impossible to really distinguish among places when reading reviews online, and also, who spends more than a few minutes researching places to get a smog check (no comment)?
My fiancé, seeing me going around in internet circles, closed my computer and told me to come to this place «just down the street.» He had brought his Roadster here for a smog check without any hiccups. I’m glad he forced me to close my computer. It took me five minutes to drive to Smogs Just Smogs, then another, oh, ten minutes to be back in the car and on the road. Car passed, paid $ 50.
I didn’t catch the name of the man working (from other reviews, I will guess it is Gustavo?), but he was so friendly. He asked how I liked my car (it’s an old manual Mini Cooper), we chatted for a few seconds.
Can’t say what else one needs in a smog check. Easy, fast, reasonably priced.

Perfect. Just moved from the East Coast and obviously needed to get a Smog Check before registering my car. Went in mid-​morning on a Tuesday, was taken right away, and on my way in 15 minutes. Super friendly.. .even told which DMV to go to to avoid long lines when getting my plates. Printed out a coupon from the website which saved me 10 dollars. Nothing bad to say.

In and out in 15 minutes. Passed my car $ 50 total out the door with coupon from their website. Friendly conversation.

This used to be a nice, friendly establishment. It is now the polar opposite with staff so rude they should be banned from any customer service industry. Having gone here for several years, upon calling today I was told they don’t work on my type of car (same car they’ve worked on for years). He then hung up on me. I called back and tried to explain they’d taken me for many years and he said «no they haven’t» then hung up on me again. Who allows a business to be run like this?

Gustavo is friendly and helpful. I was in and out in a it 5 minutes and he honored the Unilocal discount, even though it’s not meant for this location. Easy to get to location for anyone in Venice or passing through. I highly recommend!

I was in and out in less than 15 minutes. They were nice and friendly. Location was easy to find. I dread getting smog check, but in 2 years when I need another check, I would return here. I printed a coupon from internet and they accepted it, no questions asked. I would recommend this place.

I go to this Smog Check station every time I am due for a check. Today, I had the best service I ever had there. It has never been bad, but today I felt like Gustavo was above and beyond helpful and was able to get me in and out in less than 10 minutes. Also, there are always deals online for $ 39.95 for smog checks plus $ 10 for the certificate. I will definitely be going back to this location for years to come.

I checked out the interwebs for a smog check place close by. Smogs Just Smogs fit the bill, AND they accept local coupons! I took a late lunch and headed over there today (Monday afternoon) and there was no waiting, no line. Gustavo was really nice, and had my car done in less than 10 minutes! 2002 BMW Z3.
The cost at this time is $ 50, plus $ 10 for the certificate. I think if you have a car that is 1995 or older, you have to pay an additional $ 10 for some extra testing they have to do, but that is on a sign inside the shop. You can print a $ 10 coupon from their website, or bring in a local coupon from another test only facility, and that will bring the cost down a little, or at least pay for the certificate.
I would definitely come here again. Gustavo was very friendly, and the whole process was quick.

Don’t go here unless you’re a fan of the bait and switch. I printed a 29.95 smog check coupon. When I got there I was informed that to get the actual certificate would be another $ 15.00. After some choice words I peeled out of there and I’m about to start shopping for a more honest place.

RIPOFF
I’m so furious right now…
So the douchebag smogged my car. It passed all the clean air tests, but I failed because of a «check engine» light.
I go to work, tell my boss, and he tells me they will always fail a car with the light.
So why was the light on? Because the previous owner of my new car changed the oil himself and forgot to shut off the light for me.
I went back to chat because the dude KNEW he was going to fail me when he drove my car into the stall. I knew I was going to be charged again once I fix the light, so I wanted to make sure he understood that when I come back, it was going to be for free.
He would have none of it. I «politely» yelled at him, didn’t cuss, etc. but am in the process of trying to find out who runs this company so he knows about it. .. except the website has no contact info. Instead, I went to a domain site and found the person who registered the domain, so I hope I’ll be able to speak with someone and get some satisfaction. If I do, I will change this review.
BUT HEED THIS WARNING:
— the dude running the Venice location doesn’t operate a proper business
— Look for a company that will retest for free if you don’t pass the first time

Had $ 35 coupon, ended up being $ 50 total after fees and such. Service was pretty fast, there was nobody there at 9:30AM Friday. No complaints!

He said he took a look and it won’t pass and I should take it to his friend down the street and would fix it up so it would pass.
Instead I took it to Santa Monica Smog Check and Test Only Center on Cloverfield and Pico and it passed.

Could have been a good experience. The «dude» was nice if not a little strange. His machine couldn’t complete my test… he thought it was a problem with his machine. I was sent away without my paperwork and a «sorry». Yet he was still taking customers as I left. Just weird.

Stopped by here on a Sunday to get my car smog checked. One of those annoying things connected to owning a car. There was only one guy working and he was super friendly and efficient. I ended up waiting about 20 – 30 minutes total since there was one lady ahead of me. The process was painless and I even saved $ 10 by printing out a coupon (
). This shop is on Lincoln and very close to the corner of Venice. There is a gas station on the corner and the smog shop is right next door. If you look for a sign that says «Smogs Just Smogs» (as the coupon says) you won’t find it so just look for the address and a place that says Smog Checks. I’d come back here but happy it won’t be for another 2 years.

You can get a coupon online for a $ 40 smog check (it is normally $ 50). But when you get there, you find out that you have to pay $ 10 for the certificate, so you really have to pay $ 50.
The guy was very nice. It took about 10 – 15 minutes, which was really nice.
