Specialties
James Beach specializes in modern American comfort food; simple food using the best possible, natural ingredients. For example, our beef is certified Angus beef, we source most of our produce locally. Our famous Fish Tacos are surprisingly simple, a 6oz piece of Mahi Mahi that you make into your own tacos. The secret as to why they are so good is the special handling of our Mahi. Each piece is individually cryovaced at the catch site and only opened right before cooking, so they taste amazingly fresh! This is an expensive process but quality is worth it. Other specialties include several unique tacos, steaks, seafood, fried chicken (Thursdays only), wild Maine lobster (Fridays only). We have an award winning wine list with 25 wines by the glass. Monday is ½ price wine night! Our cocktails are classically made; fresh juices only, no soda guns and generous pours. The bar is always very popular. Weekend Brunch on the patio is a must, try the coast toast, rated Best of L.A.
History
Established in 1996.
James’ Beach opened in September 1996, a block from famous Venice Beach and the Pacific ocean, taking over the location of the West Beach Café. James’ Beach immediately gained a reputation for great food, drinks and wine plus marvelous people watching.
Meet the Business Owner
James and Daniel E.
Business Owner
James Evans & Daniel Samakow met at this location in 1981 (then the West Beach Café) and bought it in 1996, opening James’ Beach. James had worked in and run some of Venice’s most iconic restaurants since his early 20’s. Daniel (who also buys the wine for the award winning list) is a Cal-Arts grad and artist. Their combination of experience has helped make James’ Beach a very unique restaurant and great neighborhood spot for Venice’s diverse, creative neighbors. James and Daniel proudly support the Venice community in many ways. They, helped erect the Venice sign and helped launch the Venice Art Crawl — so James’ Beach is often a hub of local activity and art. You will often see one or both in the restaurant. When you visit, come and say hello!
