Gnarwhale Surf Lessons

Since moving to California about 6 months ago I have been saying I want to take surf lessons but was nervous to actually do it. Finally Jeremy was recommended to me by a trusted friend and I decided to set up a lesson. Within moments of meeting Jeremy my nerves were instantly calmed and I had a blast out on the water. Using the skills Jeremy was teaching me, I was able to stand up several times throughout the lesson. In addition to being a great instructor, Jeremy was extremely motivational, easy going, and fun to be around making the lesson really fun and enjoyable. I cannot wait to get out there again!

Jeremy was a great instructor! It was my second lesson ever, but with a background in snowboarding I was able to pick it up pretty quickly. Jeremy was patient and funny, and has excellent GoPro skills, providing me with some epic shots and a few super fun videos of my experience. I would highly recommend him, and I know that next time I’m back in LA I will be giving him a call!

Jeremy is a great instructor — super easy going and offered useful insight without over coaching or lecturing to you. By the end of the one lesson I was getting up most tries. I would highly recommend.

So absolutely happy to give Gnarwhale Surf Lessons a 5 star rating. Two friends and I had a private surfing lesson with Jeremy and Michael this morning, and were on cloud 9 for the entirety of our surf lesson and then afterwards as well.
It’s important to note that NONE of us had any prior surfing experience or skateboarding experience. We were as beginner as we could possibly be.
From the get-​go, Michael and Jeremy were extremely genuine, down-​to-​earth, and motivating. After suiting up, our 20 – 30 minute beach lesson was followed by 2 hours of being out in the ocean. All three of us were able to stand up a couple of times by the end of our lesson, but more than that, we had an amazing time and now feel excited about the possibility of returning to the ocean.
Amazing instructors with an incredible amount of patience. We left feeling accomplished, productive, and competent, and it doesn’t get much better than that. Isn’t that what we all want for our first surfing experience?
Hands down recommend these guys. You won’t regret it!

Jeremy is fun, patient and very encouraging. For my birthday instead of buying myself a gift I decided to learn how to surf. Working with Jeremy is a lot of fun — I stood up like 30 – 40 times! And I’m a beginner! So private lesson is absolutely worth every dollar. Highly recommend. Jeremy is definitely the surf guy to go for!

There is absolutely nothing i can write that can do justice to how good surfing with Jeremy is. First of all he is not one of those surfers who cruises out with you and has a board with him and basically just «shows» you how to surf by making you watch, and then charges you a fortune at the end.
Jeremy is all about wave count and making sure you do it right and get up in your first lesson. He is extremely professional, patient and knowledgeable, but also so much fun. I have sent many of my friends who come and visit to have a lesson with him and all of them, without fail say that it was the highlight of their trip to LA. He is a very funny guy. The two hour sessions literally fly by and at the end of it you feel like a surfer, have had an awesome workout, got a great tan and are already looking forward to the next one!
I’ve been having surfing lessons at Gnarwhale with him now for 2 years and he wears many hats — personal trainer/​friend/​shrink! I have so much fun with him out there. Surfing is a pretty challenging sport and although Jeremy has taught me so well in the sense that I can now go and catch waves on my own, I still go out with him regularly because never do I catch better waves or have more fun than I do with him. One of the top 10 greatest days of my life was still the day we went to Ponto and I went straight down the line of a wave for what felt like 20 minutes!
Cannot recommend him highly enough. And I forgot the best part — make sure you get him to show you some of his insane skills — he was a pro surfer. Most of the other surfers out there will all turn and watch him too as he is seriously that good!

I went to the Gnarwhale Surf lessons for a friend’s bday. Jeremy was such a fun and kind surf instructor. He was also incredibly patient with a group of 5 girls. He had endless energy to help us position ourselves on the perfect wave and the encouragement to get you back on a board when you have just wiped out! It was a fun time! Highly recommended!

A good surf instructor must be knowledgable, patient, thorough, fun and enthusiastic! Jeremy is all of these things and more! For my birthday, a few girlfriends and I booked a group lesson with Jeremy. Talk about a fun bday party! After our extensive beach lesson learning the fundamentals of beginning surfing, we paddled out into in the ocean. I was standing up on waves right away! The entire experience was so much better than I could have ever anticipated thanks to Jeremy’s fun spirit and extensive expertise!
You could genuinely feel his passion for the sport. He even mentioned that he doesn’t enjoy the lesson unless his students do! Thats my kind of teacher!
I would recommend to Jeremy to anyone looking for surf lessons in LA! He’s the best!!! I can’t wait for another one!!!

Jeremy is the best surf instructor in the LA area hands down. I have taken lessons from other instructors, friends and the like, and no one has taught me how to surf like Jeremy.
Not only is Jeremy patient, funny and cool — which is nice since you will be spending a few hours together in the water — but he also a killer instructor. Every time I go surfing with Jeremy, he makes sure I get up on a ton of waves, teaches me technique, how to correct mistakes I am making to improve my ride, how to read the waves, and how to become a better surfer on every paddle out. When we started I had only been out a few times. Now I can get up on my own and am really seeing my surfing improve.
Jeremy is a total professional and will help you improve your surfing far more than any other teacher. He is flexible on scheduling sessions and reliable. Jeremy always takes you to the best waves for your skill level so you have a blast and improve with every session.
I would highly recommend Jeremy to anyone. For surf lessons in LA /​South Bay — Jeremy is your dude. YEW!
