At kapowui, we live, eat and dream surfing. We teach surfing because we want to share our love and stoke for the sport. All of our instructors are imbued with the Aloha spirit. Kapowui believes we are all part of one big family, so when we are doing a lesson, we are 100% focused, and in the moment with you. All of Kapowui’s instructors live within blocks of the beach and surf every day. This is a life choice for us. We are not a corporate machine, grinding out massive quantities of sub-​par lessons with non-​surfing employees. Kapowui is a locally owned business with soul that only hires real surfers with the shaka spirit. At Kapowui, we truly care about your experience. So, in the short time we have together, we immerse you in the surf culture, giving you the opportunity to feel the true surfer vibe, and gain a skill you can use forever. ThiS is why many of the 4 and 5 star hotels in Los Angeles call Kapowui to service their guests (i.e. Four Seasons, Ritz Carlton, Beverly Hills Hotel, Shutters, Loews, Viceroy, Château Marmont, etc.) Whether surfing is a 1-​time bucket list item, or a new sport you want to pick up, we will have you up and riding waves on your 1^st lesson, or your next lesson is free! .All Lessons includes surfboard, wet suit & instructor. The first 20 minutes of each lesson is done on the beach, covering board design and dynamics, wave dynamics, beach safety, surfing safety, surf etiquette, pop-​up technique and form. The remainder of your time is spent surfing.

Hi my name is Martin. I am the founder of Kapowui. I live, eat, sleep, and dream surfing. I live a block from the beach and surf every day. My greatest joy is bringing the stoke of surfing to anyone who shows interest. Just like my company name, KAPOWUI, which means «pure joy», I live to bring that KAPOWUI feeling to all of the people who take a lesson with me. With my 25 years of surfing experience and 20 years in the health and fitness industry, I can guarantee that you will be surfing you first lesson. My beach lessons are longer than most but they are super thorough. I use my personal training /​bio mechanics /​kinesiology knowledge to coach you from the second the lesson starts till the lesson is over. I give feedback on every wave you catch and miss, and break down everything you did right and could have done better. I look forward to meeting you and bring you KAPOWUI.
