C.A.V.E. Gallery

I am always welcomed with a smile when I come into this gallery, which is why I keep coming back! The owner, Patrick is very passionate about the artists he works with and shares information about the artwork in a way that is relatable to someone who is not familiar with urban contemporary art. Each piece I have gotten from this gallery tells a story, not only about the artist, but about myself that transcends from the artwork! I will continue to support Patrick and the artists within this art movement! You make Venice rock!

Excuse the long review, but I was surprised to read the negative review from the Unilocaler below, actually my jaw dropped as I read it to my husband.
We stumbled upon cave about a month & ½ ago looking for some pieces for our new home. One thing I absolutely despise is poor customer service and as much as I may like something, I will refuse to buy it based on that principle.
When we walked into cave, I was with my husband and energetic 8 year old daughter who loves to wander about. We all know that any art curator would probably screech over this but Patrick the Owner was quite the contrary.
We spoke about art and a couple of pieces he had on display. Once we got started we talked for close to an hour regarding several artists, even some he didn’t represent. Regardless, his love for art was apparent and his attitude was the best.
After buying 9 pieces from him, he offered to take care of everything for us, including delivery and installation. We live in the Valley, so I understand how this could be an inconvenience but it wasn’t for Patrick. He completed the installation on the date and time that worked best for us and not him.
Shortly after we noticed a small flaw in the framing of one of the pieces, it took one email for Patrick to get back to us, apologize and offer to pick the piece back up at our home to take care of it. We decided to drop it off instead considering we would be in the area.
When the piece was ready Patrick scheduled to come out and reinstall it for us, the day prior to that we spoke via text about another piece I had originally fallen in love with and negotiated for him to bring it that same night as a surprise for my husband. Patrick drove out here in the middle of rush hour traffic on a week day, originally just planning to reinstall a piece and didn’t mind.
Given I decided to purchase a piece we still stuck to the original plan and had him deliver/​install our old piece and later surprise my husband with the new piece and he gladly stayed until after 9 pm installing the new piece and moving other pieces around for us.
In addition we purchased some pieces from other artists and asked Patrick if he could assist us with coordinating framing and by the next day he had reached out to us with pricing and offered to fully facilitate the framing installation for us.
If that is not service then I don’t know what is and if it weren’t for Patrick my money could have easily been walked over somewhere else.

I saw a piece from across the street that I knew I had to see up close, so I decided to stroll in.
It’s a smaller gallery, but there’s some unique pieces here. I took a few flyers for their upcoming events. I love art and can’t wait to see more of what C.A.V.E. has to offer!
I read reviews about having negative experiences with the owner. He seemed busy but greeted me when I came in so I didn’t have that same experience, but that’s just me.

Patrick is such a personable, down to earth guy that I would come in here just to chat with him about what’s going on in the art world!
Fortunately — he also brings in awesome pieces with a wide range of style.
My friend picked up a hand made beaded AK-​47 from the Ghosts exhibit and Patrick was a great help. Brought over each piece for us, explained the background, humanitarian work that the art was tied to, etc.
My friend Dj and I had a wonderful afternoon hanging out at the gallery, will definitely come back whenever I’m in Venice :)
Art is priced well here — you don’t have to be an art snob to own art!

I came across this cute little gallery while walking around on Abbot Kinney. I’m definitely an art lover so I had to walk inside and check out the pieces! We went when the Mear One Live Art Retrospective was on display. The way I interpreted the collection, it reminded me of a grunge, industrial city with these lost souls inhabiting the city. The pieces were very vibrant and carried much detail.
I definitely want to attend the opening reception of some of their upcoming collections! Would love to discuss the art with other art lovers. The staff is pretty friendly and informed me of their upcoming shows as well as other art galleries in the area.
The only reason I didn’t give it five stars is because the gallery is quite small. You can walk through the gallery in 15 minutes tops. Expand the space and add more artwork!

This gallery and its owner, Patrick are both small minded, petty and nebulous to say the least.
This banal venue rides solely on its location and the talents of artists whom Patrick, the crude and very shallow owner is quick to exploit. I wish I could come up with a better word than A#$ Hole to describe him, however, he just seems to embrace this label so completely.
I went there with my boyfriend Ted, (a Biochemist with a PhD from UCLA) to see the art of a local artist we both love and have already collected a few spectacular pieces from. I am truly surprised he is allowing his art to be hung on the walls of the C.A.V.E. because it’s such a tepid waste of a space.
The C.A.V.E. Gallery, which I will now fondly will refer to as The Capricious Art Vanilla Expo on Abbott Kinney offers nothing but contempt for both the artists and its patrons. The owner’s idea of prestige is to be rude and create discord rather than any kind of artistic experience one would expect when attending an art show.
Situated on prime Venice real estate, this gallery’s best display of creative talents is the absurd 500 pound bouncer employed to block half the art installations with his enormous ass while offering a seventy-​five pound face that looks like it’s been ironed into a permanent frown. When coming to see artwork here expect to be greeted by this ridiculous looking «guard» whom the owner is certain rains class on his unbelievably ordinary venue.
Art can be displayed anywhere, however, when it’s shown in a venue where the owner takes it upon himself to insult, attack and berate the patrons I’d have to warn both future artists and buyers to run away. There is no way I would ever purchase anything here and allow this cancerous excuse for a human being to profit from my friend’s ingenious works of art.
What happened?
We arrived. We looked at the art. We loved it. I walked to the rear of the gallery in search of a restroom and noticed a back garden being blocked by a nice looking fellow sitting on a stool. After engaging him in a conversation he said they’d just closed the outside and that was why he was sitting there. I began to banter with the fellow and joke with him. I was being silly and successfully making the guy smile when Patrick, the owner, appears from behind a black curtain like the Wizard of Oz and exclaims, «Get the F$%# out of here!»
I replied, «What?»
He says, «You can’t be back here! F$@% off.»
I said, «Hey dude, there’s an art opening going on here.»
He says, «I don’t care what’s going on here! Get out!»
I said, «Alright. I’m walking.» Then I turned and exclaimed, «But don’t you know who I THINK I am? Don’t you even know who you think you are insulting!» (I was trying to get a laugh — the guy on the stool broke out laughing) The prickly little Patrick screeched like a girl, «Get out of here!»
He acted like I was some kind of terrorist threat and called his 500 pound pit bull to have me literally physically removed from the gallery!
I’m a 46 year old comedian/​writer who has never been kicked out an art gallery (but certainly better places than this for sure) — and here I was being shoved out physically onto the street by this ex-​con posing as security.
It gets better. When my boyfriend, the scientist and art collector confronts this idiot owner and inquires what I did exactly to get kicked out, Patrick tells him I am drunk and insane. Ted says, «She doesn’t even drink alcohol. What are you talking about?» Then Patrick pulls a lie out of his pocket and says, «She was touching the art!» My friend says «She must have very long arms. The art was twenty feet across the room. When Patrick’s little lies don’t work he then throws out another whopper and exclaims that I was going to attack him! This Patrick guy is a six foot tall parading peacock, but he’s claiming he felt threatened by me, Jill Gatsby … the biggest goofball on the West Coast. I’m 5 feet 6 inches of terror for sure!
Finally, Ted says, «Look, you just kicked her out because you didn’t personally like her.» This Patrick guy replies like a little four year old, «Yeah! Well I can! It’s MY gallery! I can do ANYTHING I want!»
My lord of the flies. What a giant spoiled rotten little baby.
Within twenty minutes of this «altercation» everyone else in the so called gallery also left. Our artist friend was mortified. I told him that we will wait until he has removed his art from this «so called» gallery to make an offer.
I was planning on bringing my entire family and friends over to see the work of my artist friend at the C.A.V.E. — The Capricious Art Vanilla Expo on Abbott Kinney — but now I will make sure to avoid this place like a porta potty after a heavy metal concert.

Great place to find a new up coming artists and more.

It’s a trendy spot on a trendy street where trendy peeps gallivant the streets and gaze at art.

…apologies for the bloated mess, but you’ll get the picture.
Perhaps my nostalgia will help entice future explorers. Ha.
Seeing as how it was our first time to this part of Venice, the boy and I decided to park in a lot right off Venice Blvd. and walk around. $ 10 bucks for an all day pass at the lot seemed reasonable to me, plus there was a food truck at the entrance, so we took the offer up.
Abbot Kinney Blvd. is basically a less pretentious Bedford Ave. (Williamsburg). Hooray. Nothing mainstream holds real estate on the boulevard, and its refreshing.
Bars, cafes, furniture shops (vintage and modern) and up and coming designer brands line the sidewalk in refurbished craftsman-​style homes.
Bitchin.
C.A.V.E. came upon us about half a mile down the street.
Once inside the gallery, you’re surrounded by great natural light and three distinct exhibits of local artists’ work (or at least, when I went).
Each artist, to my understanding, is able to portray their collection however they please. Case in point, Craig ‘Skibs’ Barker. The dude collages his area with ribbon, antique children’s furniture and spray-​painted lace on the walls to accompany his already fantastic paintings/​collages. Super inspiring and super awesome.
A partial wall hides the curator’s desk/​counter area at first, but once around, you find yourself looking at more great art. Prints are cheap and info on the artists is readily available. Take advantage of this people!
Ok, I’ve rambled enough, but, seriously, this place is a gem. I’ll most def be back.

BOOM! Great little neighborhood gallery in Venice. Tanya one of the owners is great she knows the art scene and has a great group of artists showing. Patrick her partner is a nice Pittsburg fellow. They always have great prints for purchase and fabulous art shows. I love showing here and going here to see what they have going on. Keep up the badass work.

I love this place it always has a great selection of art always. It rotates regularly and never fails in great eye catching art. I’ve been here multiple times and each time have found a piece I was interested in enough to buy. I highly recommend this place.

Interesting artists. The owner definitely has an eye. Some of the medium-​sized paintings we only $ 500 so you don’t have to be a millionaire to buy art here.

I LOVE this gallery. The art is really hip and accessible to the non-​gallery snob. They hold parties on the first friday of the month which coincide nicely with the festivities on abbot kinney. Thank god for another awesome business on the formerly scary/​gross Rose ave. After CAVE, head a block east to Venice Beach Wines for some amazing cheese pairings :)
