The Sitzmark Lodge

Jennifer was great she helped me so much that she offered to valet my car ha. The place is clean and room I got for one night was better than expected. Oh yeah did I mention how great Jennifer was, that girl needs a raise for her customer service.

Great friendly hotel in the middle of Vail Village. Superb location with very friendly and accommodating staff. Great room overlooking Gore creek. We would certainly stay here again.

Great location in Vail Village a few steps away from the gondolas.
It’s a big of a mom-​and-​pop shop that has all the charm of a smaller business, but also some of the old creakiness, not being able to get anyone on the phone the first time, and rooms that stay humid after a shower, and never really get completely dark.
That being said, it was an excellent choice for a Vail weekend. The location makes up for everything, and the front desk guy was great!
Also, free parking!

Sitzmark is a charming Vail Village hotel. It has been well maintained (remember original Vail Village properties are 40+ years old). The staff is kind, considerate and extremely helpful. Parking is included — a great amenity. Very conveniently located. We spent time wandering the shops of the Village and admiring the beautiful scenery. Each morning as we walked down the stairs to the included breakfast, we were treated to a lovely view of Gore Creek.
Upon arrival (late due to the first snow storm of the season on I-​70), the desk clerk was ready with excellent restaurant recommendations. Mountain Standard is just out the back door and is wonderful.
The room was perfect. They have done a great job of keeping it updated. Tempurpedic beds, great linens. The bathroom was furnished with fluffy towels and lovely soaps. We had plenty of room. Plentiful hot water. There was a fitness center on the bottom floor and a laundry.
This is a solid lodge and a great value.

This is an ok hotel that is close to the lifts. The problem is that it was built long ago, so the elevators are tiny, and so are the hallways. Honestly, I would tear it down and build bigger and better.

My sister and I just stayed here this past weekend, and were a bit disappointed. We arrived in Vail a little before 11am and walked to the hotel after lunch to see what time our room would be available. The person at the front desk told us that check-​in wasn’t until 4pm, but that she would call me when it’s ready. Not a deal breaker by any means, but it was HOT out and I was really hoping to sit by the pool for a bit while the weather was nice. Around 3:30 I walked back to the hotel and low and behold, our room was ready… sure enough, no missed call.
We got our bag and headed up to our room on the 3^rd floor. The stairs are pretty narrow and almost seem to slope backwards, so be careful on your way up. The room was stifling, so I checked in with the front desk to see if our AC was broken or if they even had AC. Apparently, there is no AC in the building, which is fine in the winter, but not in the summer when it’s 90+ degrees outside. The woman told me to turn on my ceiling fan and sleep with our slider open. Here’s the problem… every room has a sliding glass door and every TWO rooms share a balcony. There’s no way I’m sleeping with my door open when someone from the next room can easily walk on into my room by opening a screen door.
At around 4 am, I gave up, and opened the slider a crack… low and behold, all of the service vehicles come into the village around that time, with food deliveries, towel deliveries, etc. The noise was unbelievably loud, and forced us to get up much earlier than planned.
The pool and hot tub are nice, but the entrance to them from the 2^nd and 3^rd floors are awkward and difficult to navigate the first time you stay there.

Antiquated, over priced, poor customer service, rooms are outdated with old TVs and rock hard towels and really shitty coffee.
Lodge is in a great location but that is all it has going for it.
The restaurant is greatly overpriced, but pretty good. But I think it’s owned by someone else than the lodge owners, which makes sense because the service at the bar in the restaurant was exceptional!
Go to manor vail instead or one of the many amazing places in the village.

I believe that the Sitzmark is one of the best values, and one of the (shhhh) best-​kept secrets, at Vail. Excellent value all around. We’ve been coming here over 30 years, and both my wife and I loved staying here.
My preference is for a hotel that has spa facilities and staff as this body gets achy after a day of very hard, punishing («I feel the need for speed») skiing, but you can find this almost anywhere in town: this hotel has very classy owners, and they genuinely make you feel welcome in their hotel — which is actually their home, as they live there — and do such an excellent job at everything they offer.
Only drawbacks: no spa, no back-​of-​the-​hotel access to skiing — but really, y’all, is that sufficient reason to whine about something? (Some people have to have something to complain about, even if they are in paradise and there’s nothing to whine about. You know the type? Wahhhh!!!)
There are only about 200 health clubs you can visit, workout, and get an excellent massage at. But most good massage services come to your hotel room, so what’s the worry? Worse comes to worse, there is a very good, clean, hot tub available at the hotel, and my wife and I spent many a night in it.
The lifts are, if you have to wait to cross a street or something, maybe 5 minutes from the hotel. C’mon: you come to Vail to ski hard, right? So what’s an extra 4 – 5 minutes of walking? Duhhh…
This is an excellent value, and in my opinion, likely the best deal in Vail… but don’t tell anyone, okay?

We headed to Vail for an off-​season getaway weekend a few weeks ago during fall break. Going back a few (hundred, I think) years, my brother worked at the Lodge at Vail and we knew everyone there… so it seemed a done deal — we’d stay there… but when I found out they had replaced the Wildflower with an Elways, I knew I needed to find a new «home» in Vail.
After whining to a visitors bureau rep about the loss of the Wildflower, which to me fit the the textbook definitions of unique, friendly and special, he recommended the Sitzmark. I am so happy to say it is also unique, friendly and special. I didn’t even need to be dripping in diamonds to be welcome.
I mean how many times do you go to a world class resort and have the owner (whom you’d never had known was the owner unless you’re me and looked up the lodge’s story online before coming) check you in? I didn’t hear «welcome to MY lodge» but I felt it.
We slept on memory foam mattresses, ate breakfast alongside the owner who thereafter left unobtrusively on her road bike and got some inside advice on where to have lunch. Now it feel like it’s MY lodge.

Definitely one of the nicer, affordable places in Vail. We enjoyed our stay. Great location, includes parking. GREAT breakfast included!
No air conditioning, but you probably won’t need it. A bigger problem is that they do not have a fitness center. That may be a dealbreaker on future stays. There are no cheap fitness centers in the area, so it’s nice to have one at the hotel. Also they only have two-​rooms that are pet-​friendly, and they are on the first floor. I would recommend they take those two rooms out and put in a fitness room.
Otherwise we had a great time in a great room!

Sitzmark is conveniently located in the village. It’s not ski in /​ski out, but the walk to the Gondola One is under 5 minutes.
The hotel has apres ski every afternoon with mulled wine and warm soup in a crock pot. Monday evenings, the owners welcome you into their own penthouse unit, so you get to meet the family as well as many return customers (people who have come back to stay in the same unit annually for the last 30 years). Each morning there’s complimentary breakfast with pastries, make your own waffles, instant oatmeal, bagels, hard boiled eggs, cereals, bananas, yogurt. The highlight is the Lavazza espresso machine, which makes super smooth coffee.
Other amenities: fridge and coffee maker in the room, memory foam mattresses, free wifi, nice bath products. No fitness center, but there’s a pool and hot tub.
The rooms are very spacious, very clean, with nice decorative touches like extra pillows. It’s not the Four Seasons, but it’s still really nice and very conveniently located. Our room also came with a complimentary bottle of wine. Within Vail village, it might be the best value for what you get.
Also, free parking in the underground in the village is included with your stay :) Definitely come here and support the family owned lodge!

Best location in Vail (walk right up to the gondola), EXCELLENT service, free breakfast and afternoon hot mulled wine/​soup (perfect for post-​skiing), great hot tub/​pool and reasonably priced. Can’t ask for more during a ski vacation in Vail! Thanks to everyone at the Sitzmark.

THREE CHEERS FOR THE HOUSEKEEPING CREW!!! My Sister & I had just checked out and guess what… WE LEFT HER VERY EXPENSIVE CANON CAMERA (with an extra lens — yikes!!) IN ONE OF THE DRESSERS!!! But low and behold, housekeeping found it and turned it in… and we all know what usually happens in those situations. Sooooooooooo THANKS GALS! You rock! :)
LOCATION — Parking underground is a ‘no go’ for large vehicles (We had an F-​150), but we just left our keys with the front desk and we were able to park right in front of the hotel. It’s easy to find and RIGHT IN THE VILLAGE… walking distance from everything! AND choose the «creek side», oh my god the sounds of the creek at night is awesome.
ROOMS — They’ve upgraded the rooms since we were there last — fancy tiles in the bathrooms, AWESOME MATTRESSES (memory foam!!), down pillows, no creepy bed spreads and nice dark wood furniture w/​a 32 inch flat screen TV w/​a reading table.
Two complaints — You share the patio with 1 neighbor, so you may not be alone when you go outside in the morning to enjoy the view. :) and the electrical outlets aren’t exactly placed for easy use — or easy to find for that matter (outside the bathroom that is).
CUSTOMER SERVICE — Professional, friendly, they even had headache meds for my Sister… one of the girls (Jennifer) could’ve been a bit more knowledgeable about the area though. Luckily we met nice people and they told us the best places to eat.
PRICE — $$$.$$ — For a non-​smoking room w/​two queen beds on the creek side we paid $ 155/​night. **2 night stay req**
Very nice place to stay if you’re looking for an affordable hotel in the middle of Vail Village! This is our second time there and plan to make this the place we stay every time we drive out to visit!

If you’re just looking for a good quality «plain old hotel» with nice touches, this is an excellent pick. It’s right on the Vail Village, so excellent location – no commuting or bus ride to get there.
I suspect if you’re looking for special amenities or were born with a silver spoon, this may not be the best choice.

I am in the midst of planning for my family ski vacation this winter and the Sitzmark will be my destination. I have stayed here many times over the years and I find everything about the place to be great. Yes, it is not a Ritz or 4 Seasons, but it is in the best location within Vail Village, the staff and people are great and the outdoor pool and hottub are wonderful places to sit and watch the activity at Checkpoint Charlie and people strolling through the village. You should give it a shot, it is well worth it.

On a recent, late August, road trip through Colorado we happened upon The Stizmark Lodge. Nice accommodations and the «Best» location in Vail. Our room was right on Gore Creek and although there are newer hotels and codos nearby this place was full of old world charm. The staff went out of their way to be helpful and all 4 of us would book again if we find ourselves in Vail. Nice place, nice people!

The first thing I’d have to say after staying here is that my face is still recovering from their sandpaper like towels; clearly they haven’t heard of fabric softener. They also don’t have air conditioning, which normally wouldn’t be an issue since they’re in usually cool Vail, but as it happened I was there during a week of unusually warm weather, which made the rooms feel like being in a sauna. They are close to the ski lifts, so I’d say it’s a decent place to stay in the winter, but I wouldn’t recommend it during the summer.
