Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft

Oh.My.Slowness. I do not know why I keep patronizing this store. (I do like the way it has been reorg’d – mostly.) But the help is slower than ever. It is as tho’ they are trained & deployed to be as lethargic as humanly possible. Three of us stood at the cutting counter waiting for someone to show up; I literally hollered 4x & actually **whistled** before anyone arrived – with no apology. Don’t even get me started on the cashier (after I waited in line for 15+ mins). I bought 12 identical pieces of card stock. She picked up each paper, held it in front of the scanner gun, waited for the beep, then turned & put it in my bag. Picked up the next piece of paper, held it up to the scanner, waited for … I kid you not. I almost had chest pain. DO NOT SHOP HERE UNLESS YOU ENJOY WASTING TIME.

Amazing store associates. Elizabeth was very helpful over at the fabric department. She helped us decide what kind and how much fabric we need for the costume that I’m working on. Also she gave us tips on how to cut and sew a certain fabric. I appreciate her advice since I’m a sewing newbee.
The cashier was also awesome, unfortunately I forgot her name and it’s not listed on my receipt. As she was ringing my items she told me about the coupons I can access using my smartphone. She scanned the coupons straight front my phone and I saved a few dollars. It really made me happy!
It’s a smaller store compared to the other joann store that I’ve been to. They have a nice display of crafts at the entrance. Included are some information regarding classes you can attend to make those projects :). Parking is easy.

Dear JoAnns, your cutting counter is so damn slow its unbelievable. Your staff is more interested in talking like a bunch of hens that just laid eggs then cutting peoples fabric and moving them along. I know its alot to ask to pay someone minimum wage to cut fabric but hire more freaking people so your service doesnt suck this bad.

I kind of hate this place. I’ve been working on a project for awhile now and every time I go into to get more materials, they are out of what I need. This has been going on for about 2 months now. When I finally asked the woman at the counter why the low selection she said they were switching vendors and didn’t know when stock would be replenished. Every store is going through the same transition and other craft stores like Michael’s don’t carry what I need. Frustration to say the least.

JoAnn gets five stars, not for being that awesome, but for being the best available option for what they offer. I’ve definitely had instances of products I bought here not doing what they said they did, or just plain not being able to find what seems like a very simple craft related object, but at the end of the day, I will continue to use JoAnn because the selection is there and they’re not bringing in politics to ruin my experience.
I will not shop at Hobby Lobby because I have a uterus and I don’t believe my boss should have any say over what goes on in there. Since Hobby Lobby took that birth control for employees fight to court, I’ve been boycotting their brand. That said, JoAnn has really stepped in to fill that gap and I’ve typically had good experiences, especially with their fabric department.
The selection in JoAnn is as good or better than Hobby Lobby in most departments barring a few particulars and their fabric department is much larger. The prices on fabric are considerably better than online retailers for the exact same fabrics – especially when you’re using coupons or they’re having a sale. Occasionally the lines will get long to get your fabric cut, but it’s worth the hassle to have such a large selection. They also have an enormous department for notions and patterns.
JoAnn’s only real competition is Michael’s (unless you’re comfortable with buying things from a company run by a controlling family who believes their religious decisions should affect every employee in their stores across the country) and JoAnn’s selection is just worlds better on everything but framing. So at the end of the day, this is your best option unless you’re looking for a custom frame.
If you’re buying something from JoAnn, make sure you’re using their online coupons. Typically you can use multiple coupons at once and there’s always at least one coupon for 40−50% off an item.

This store is huge when you walk in. The ceiling feels as tall as Costco’s, yet this store has a pretty wimpy inventory. So the isles are all spaces pretty far apart. There were too few employees to actually be of help.
They mail out coupons like 40% off one item, and 20% off your entire purchase, but it only applies to regularly prices merchandise. So naturally, the store marks everything down by 10% so that your coupons are useless. They are just to get you in the store really.
The baking section at this store is actually really really impressive, with all these specially pans for making fun creations.

What a fun store! We came in the day after Christmas looking for some fabric to reupholster a couple chairs. Before we could make it to the fabric aisles, though, we were distracted by their aisles-​upon-​aisles of clearance Christmas décor. We ended up practically filling our cart with beautiful Christmas decorations, including beautiful, glittery, long-​stem fabric poinsettias and other wintery-​looking foliage – perfect for filling in gaps in Christmas trees!
When we finally reached the fabric aisles, there was plenty to look at. They have a fantastic selection of upholstery fabrics, and we had no trouble finding a beautiful, affordable red fabric that was absolutely perfect for reupholstering the two chairs. I even found a couple fabrics I want to use to reupholster a couple of my own chairs, though they were a little pricey. I’ll keep my eye open for some good coupons!
The only drawback to our visit was the long wait time to have the fabric cut. Although they had several employees working, some of them certainly took longer than others to cut the fabric (they really loved chit-​chatting). That said, the gal helping us with our fabric was very helpful with determining how much fabric we needed for our project.
As we were checking out, we were surprised at how little we actually spent! After using a 20% off your entire purchase coupon (keep your eyes peeled for those!), our total was only $ 60. Again, our cart was full of Christmas decorations, upholstery fabric, and even a fabric pill remover. What a deal!
And, the fabric ended up being perfect for the project. We had plenty of fabric, and it’s nice and durable (which is necessary in a house with a couple cats)!
If you’re into sewing and crafting, or even if you’re just looking for some home décor or party decorations, Jo-​Ann is definitely a place to keep in mind!

Had some fabric cut by an amazing English woman called Hannah, she is a breath of fresh air, very friendly, good service all round.

They have just remodeled, the yarn section is now tucked into the dark corner, and reduced to only three isles.
I stood in line to get two yards of fabric cut for 45 minutes.
On a Tuesday.
In the morning.
When I got to the counter, the bolt I chose had four remnant pieces rolled up on it. I then had to grab another bolt, of actual fabric.
This place is always a sh*t show.
I’ll give them points for coupons, but the time it takes to get my stuff and then pay for it, I could probably weave my own fabric.

For your own sanity, try not to come here on a weekend. Long lines to get fabrics cut and to check out. I thought I’d stop in really quick to grab some nice ribbon, and ended up being there for a while. Wanted this nice gold ribbon for my Halloween costume but when I grabbed a number it was 65 and they were calling 34! I looked at everyone waiting and they had carts full of fabric to be cut! No, thanks. If you are crafty, like deals and clipping coupons, with the patience of Buddha, maybe you might be able to come out with some great finds and deals to create some amazing gifts and things.

1 hour…1 hour for $ 5 dollars of fabric. The employees are cranky and everything takes ten times as long as it should. They really need to take a look at how they run the business and what could get you in and out in anything under half an hour.
Now calling number 68…68…68…68 are you here? I’m only gonna ask 5 more times for 68…68…

Went here to help a friend pick out some fabric and I ended up getting yarn and new needles for a hat. This place was surprisingly busy for a Tuesday night but thinking about it more it’s probably because it’s starting to get colder and more people are out to start their fall projects and Halloween costumes. This being said, I think there should be more than 4 employees for the whole store… I tried to find someone to help me find the correct knitting needles and couldn’t find anyone on the floor. There was a long line for cutting fabric but at least 3 people were working at the same time so that wasn’t really an issue. But my friend and I waited for over 10 minutes to get checked out since there was only 1 person at check out. Finally they added another employee 10 mins later… Other Jo-Ann’s I’ve gone to have definitely been better experiences.

Too long lines for cutting fabrics and for checking out. There are not enough signs or organization to find what you need easily. The staff were not friendly or very helpful. This is the same for every jo ann i go to. Btw im still waiting in line.

Absurdly long lines to get 1 cut. If there was any other option I’d be there in a flash. There’s a delicate balance between customer service and chatting with every customer while there is a half hour line waiting. An opportunity for competition exists in Seattle for fabric!

I had a coupon for 40% off one regular item and when I tried to use it tonight the item that I was purchasing was already 30% off, so instead of giving me the better deal, they told me that’s how it is… maybe I’m just being a baby about it, but I WANT my extra 10% off!!! (stomps feet, whines, throws something)…

A typical craft store but they have an extensive clearance section! Great options for teachers, quilters, scrap bookers and bakers. Prices are good and they send coupons for 50% off a regular price item!

This is the best Jo-​Ann to find what you need — it is freaking huge! There is so much stuff that I end up literally walking up and down every aisle just to make sure I see it all. Lots of clearance, ranging from 30% off to 90% off.
The store itself needs to be remodeled. It is really old, dirty, kinda smelly. Expect a long line to pay.
Huge fabric section, beware of the ladies cutting fabric though — they are never friendly, and are slowwwwwww. Make sure you grab a number too, since they are slow the wait time gets pretty long. I usually grab a number before I even start looking for fabric.
Lot’s of aisles full of cool projects for kids; painting, sewing, clothing design — you name it. Even I buy some of it. They have a good selection of yarns, paints, scrapbook material, and a large fake flower section.
Usually I only stop by when I am preparing for an upcoming rave; as I buy a lot of tulle for tutus, beads for kandi, glitter… etc. They always have what I need, which makes things much easier.
Check online for coupons. They accept competitor mobile coupons — so check Michaels & Hobby Lobby. You can also download their app for an additional coupon. Check by the front door for ads, those have coupons. Good deals when you start to combine those — usually only good on regular price items, but you’ll save up to 50% so that’s very helpful!

I’ll start by saying I wish I could give no stars.
Second I will say this is my own fault for going back in there after getting horrible service in the fabric department each time. I have vowed that this will finally be my last time visiting a Joanne’s.
I went in there today to get fabric. Chose my fabric, grabbed a number and started the waiting game. The lady called out a number and no one stepped up. She then said «oh, it’s the lady over there» pointing in a direction towards a lady still choosing fabric clearly not ready to check out. I would like to mind you that there were a couple people READY to have their fabric cut. So rather than helping those people while the lady chose her fabric the employee walked away to do something else in another department to wait for the customer to be done because she did have the next number to be chosen.
I’m not suggesting to disregard the customer still shopping who chose a number before she was ready. I am simply suggesting that they should help the people that are ready rather than walk away and wait for that number to be done. There were at least 2 people that employee could have helped instead of walking away.
Joanne’s lost a sale today and a customer.

This is the most ridiculous place ever. Seriously, no one knows where anything is, and if they do, they can’t actually give actual directions – just the general area.
I asked two people in the fabric section where I could find canvas fabric, for making a braided rug, and they both said they don’t carry canvas and don’t know where I could find it. My husband found it two aisles over.
I asked a woman at customer service where I could find an x-​acto knife and the girl pointed and said, «about ¾ of the way that way.» I asked for an aisle number and she just looked at me and said «I don’t know…»
Lo and behold, there ARE no aisle numbers. Nothing is labeled, thus, even the employees don’t know where anything is.
I give two stars because if you know what you want and where it is, there almost always is a coupon you can use for 40%+ off. And they’ll apply it to the most expensive item, so you don’t have to do two transactions.

Really love the customer service here. The people are mostly friendly. Waiting around the cutting counter is a little awkward and congested, especially near Holidays. It takes forever most of the time to get to the counter itself and if you’re new, FYI you have to take a number (located at the right, front of the counter) and then wait.
I got lucky and ended up walking in here for their big annyal 75% off almost everything sale. Wasn’t able to find the exact tulle I wanted but ended up buying extra colors for other projects. With the time spent waiting for my cuts, I browsed the store and ended up with way too many projects to even finish within the coming year. Well played Jo-​Ann, well played.
On the best note, in my recent last two visits I have been the happy victim of coupons. A week before Halloween, I was checking out with my new curtain rods (marked down from 59.99 $ to 19.99 $-thanks annual sale) and told the gal in a very exhausted tone, «I’m walking out of here with too many projects but I think I’m going to have to make another stop in before your big sale is over». And with that, she asked me to wait there… walked over to a Manager and gave me a 40% off coupon for my next visit.
Next visit, a different lady assisted me through my TWO carts of stuff at the check out line only to give me a 10% discount and then sign me up for their text/​email system which instantly sent me a coupon for 15% off that I got to use RIGHT then. This place makes Momma happy.
