History

Established in 1959.

At the close of World War II, Arthur Duhamel, our founder, went to work in New York City as a journeyman sheetmetal mechanic. In 1958 after working for over ten years on such noted projects as Radio City Music Hall, Arthur Duhamel moved with his family from New York to Tucson.

In January of 1959, along with Harry Hawk, Arthur founded D&H Air Conditioning Company, specializing in residential air conditioning. To form the company name, each took the first letter of their last names, thus establishing D&H.

With a reputation for honesty and a commitment to quality D&H began to grow quickly. As Tucson developed D&H expanded into other areas such as upgrading of existing equipment and buildings, remodel projects, service & repair, and commercial work.

Our 30 year old AC/​Furnace wasn’t working well. I looked at Unilocal,found D&H had good reviews, called them and they had a guy out to look at that afternoon. It was shot. A salesman showed up while the tech guy was still here. We all talked about the situation and we bought a new one. Two days later two guys came and installed it. It is working great. The company was very good to work with. Don’t see how you could go wrong.

Today, July 30th, 100′ outside. A/​C not blowing cold air. Called D&H at noon and at 1:20 pm they were on the way. I was extremely impressed with our technician, Fernando C. He was very pleasant to speak to and was very knowledgeable about his profession. He was eager to show me what the issues were with my air conditioning unit and explained everything so I could understand it. He didn’t mind that I watched while he worked. Some places don’t want you to see what they are doing and are hard to trust. He was not only knowledgeable but also conscientious about our concerns and let us know that we might still have some life left in our old unit. Most places send technicians whose only goal is to get you to believe that replacement is your only option. We were grateful that he was honest and caring. We have only used D&H since we bought this house in 1972 and we’ll continue to call on only them when we need service, repair or replacement of our unit. Thanks again Fernando! A+ in my book.

Excellent Service! A new AC unit was installed in my 1950’s home to replace the swamp cooler. The quote was what I expected and they explained all my options. I was very impressed with the speed and professionalism of the two technicians who installed the unit. They were amazing given the fact that they were on the roof in the heat & humidity. Skip, Operations Manager, stopped by the make sure all was going well and I received a phone call moments after the two installation techs finished asking if everything was ok.. .. YES! Another phone call the next day as a follow-​up from David DuBois, Advisor, checking in to make sure I was happy with the new unit. This was a great experience from beginning to end.

We had a new AC system installed in our new 1959-​vintage house last year, to replace swamp coolers. I had 4 bids. D&H wasn’t the cheapest, but head and shoulders above the other bids in the quality and efficiency of the Daikin product, the scope and quality of the bid, and the excellent sales, office and management support. We are so glad we chose them! Excellent product, perfect installation, consistently excellent service! Their staff have been with the company forever and you can absolutely trust them in your house. The Oro Valley city inspector who came out to finalize the permit was in awe of this 21 SEER Daikin system and its wonderful hallway control system. It’s so efficient that we’ll break even in a few years compared to our old system. Thanks D&H !

Outstanding service! Ralph, our technician, spent extra time explaining our a.c. system, how to replace the filter, and was incredibly thorough in his assessment and explanation. We had complete trust and confidence in his recommendations on what we needed to do to prolong the life of our system. Thank you D&H for the honest, expert service!

So psyched that D&H could make it out and service our A/​C the same day I called. Sweating through another night of restless sleep-​no bueno. Our service tech explained everything he checked as he was checking it and even took a few minutes to explain how A/​C systems work and some common issues look out for in the future. The bill seemed reasonable as well. In less than an hour we were back in business and the house was headed back to livable temps. Definitely recommend D&H!

Excellent service! My AC went out while I was out of town and I came back to a sauna of a house. It was after 9pm when I got home so I knew there was nothing I could do till the morning. I called D&H after reading their good reviews and because my last AC company, in my opinion, was a bunch of thugs.
Anyway, they had a friendly tech out early that morning and a crew out to install by 11am. They showed up with two trucks and about six workers exactly when they said they would. It took them about 4 hours to have my old AC and furnace out and the new ones installed. They were missing a part for my furnace vent and advised they would order it and have someone install it later in the week. As promised, I received a call from Cory stating they had the part and would be by to install it.
Very impressed with their service and customer follow-​up. I must have received 3 calls from them making sure everything was installed and billed out correctly. Glad I called and glad I didn’t have to wait 3 days for a new AC unit like my neighbor did. Thanks D&H.

I chose D&H because of their professional behavior and timely response since other companies seemed unreliable and did not follow-​up with the quotes I had received. They were certainly not the cheapest quote, but I’ve recently had to deal with some very dishonest contractors and thought the cost would reflect in their work ethic and final product, and thankfully it did! After some redesigning, they replaced and installed an entire external duct system in one day. Originally, I had a dispute concerning some sheet rock repair that I believed was covered in the contract. D&H addressed my concerns in a timely fashion and went out of their way to make sure I was happy with the final work. I appreciate their dedication to customer service and commitment to upholding their local reputation. This experience was is so different from dealing with private contractors, so I really appreciate it. This is a very trustworthy company!

When I had the «package unit» (ac& heater combined) in 2010, one of the selling points they touted was 10 years Parts & Labor. When I called to have a strange banging noise fixed, they confirmed my warranty and scheduled an appointment. THEN I’m told there’s a $ 95 diagnostic fee. Yeh, I think not.
I also always thought they’d sold me too powerful of a unit for my house (5 ton for 1900sf). When summer rolled around and the heat started, I noticed the unit would cycle on and off every 8 minutes. That’s really bad for the unit & energy bills. I changed the thermostat for one that I can control the temperature «swing». By raising it to +/​-​1 degree, it now cycles on and off every 15 minutes. That helps remove more humidity and saves $ because the surge starting the compressor only happens 2x an hour.
I read the other reviews and it sounds like they were written by professional PR people! I just pulled out my warranty paperwork and it looks like there’s other «small print» they didn’t tell me about.
My advice– get more than one bid and remember that bigger is NOT always better! I probably should have gone with a «Rosie on the House» (radio show) recommended contractor. When I had problems and they pulled these type surprises, Rosie would help straighten it out. Rosie hates contractors who over-​rate their installations.

D&H has been our A/​C company of choice for years. Their customer service is great and their staff is timely with return phone calls, appointment times, and follow-​up in general. My A/​C went out recently during a big get together at my home. There were over 50 people present and temps were over 100… and so was my level of stress! I called D&H and their service tech showed up and saved the day! He was courteous, respectful of the situation, and best of all, FAST! My house was cool in no time! Thank you again to D&H and their employees. I will continue to use and recommend them. When people ask me why D&H, I let them know how much I appreciate honest and fair representation. This seems to be a rarity in today’s market and I want all to know that D&H still maintains these qualities. I hope they are around another 50 plus years.

I have long believed that Air Conditioners need regular checkups, especially with our 100+ degree days. That’s why as soon as my for my maintenance contract came do I began looking for a new AC Company that I could trust they wouldn’t rip me off with ever regular maintenance visit.
We have had several air conditioning companies over the past 8 years, but only one has proved to be straight-​up and honest… D&H. I know that my air conditioner (a builders system) is now over 8 years old and will need to be replaced pretty soon. We won’t even bother with searching around… I’ll go with the company I have trusted for the last 2 years… D&H Air.

I called D&H air conditioning during the huge heat wave we had in Tucson this past summer. Our air contitioning had died and it was 110 degrees outside. I thought we might need a new unit because our system was more than 9 years old. Turns out it was only a broken compressor so they were able to fix it at a very reasonable price. Their customer service was excellent and the technician was very knowledgeable. When it does come time to replace our old system, I will be calling D&H because their staff is friendly, curteous and professional.
