Towson University Marriott Conference Hotel

Stayed here while in Towson for a work trip. I picked the Marriott solely based on their interiors. Not because they are amazing but because my team and I wanted to get a «feel» for the city and after researching other options decided this hotel had the most character. It is a typical Marriott, no surprises on service or amenities. I did enjoy the breakfast though — they had a great omelette bar that was quick and tasted great. If you are in Towson this is a reasonable, clean option.

The night staff literally suggested I walk a mile (in the January 2016 snowstorm on icy, unplowed sidewalks) to a CVS because she didn’t know who to call for a taxi when what I really needed was a phone charger or wake-​up call. The best part? None of the phones in my room had phone jack cords, so I couldn’t get a wake-​up call.

I came here for the location, they had suites, and because they had a concierge lounge for us Elite people. To be honest I was also curious as to why on a normal season this place was hard to book or was pricey. But after staying here I don’t see what the big deal with this place is. Once you get in, its obvious that this place has some age on it. The rooms seemed a little up to date. The concierge was decorated modern but the space was small and the food selection was small too. It wasn’t a total lost. The suite had plenty of space, the people were friendly, and like I said the location was good. As for me, I’m not going to go out of my way to stay here.

This Marriott was much more than expected from the reviews! Staff was all very friendly. The rooms were nice size. It was more like a small condo. Had washer and dryer, full kitchen. Very clean. Great customer service! Thanks to Allie! Will stay again!

I stayed at this hotel and had been for the past few months or so. I travel to the Baltimore area for work on a weekly basis. So I only travel there for work.
I was preparing for work one morning and went to pull the door to leave only to find out I couldn’t get out of the room. I called the frontdesk to communicate my issue and of course with utter sarcasm suggested I use the key. I explained again that I’m locked in the inside of the room. After about 5 – 10 minutes I call back down because no one came, they finally sent a shemale security guard up to check and she of source came up and said through the door unlock it, of course it’s unlocked after telling us to lock & unlock the door. She called engineers up — at which point they had to remove the kick off the door to get me out. Now, again only there for work, so of course I’m super late. I call downstairs and ask for management (they never say their name) but always say, I am one of the managers. So I asked to be moved because all I need is a fire to occur and I can’t get out and I had to ask this by the way. So she take my # and says she’ll call me when the room is ready. NO CALL.
But when I get to work my boss chewed me up and spit me out. I was fearful of losing my job. I get back to the hotel after 5 and stop At the frontdesk again only to be said. I’m sorry, I’ll have the manager call u (2^nd promise to hear from mgt) nothing again. I didn’t sleep I was checking the door all night.
I took to Twitter & Facebook & they respond with guess what? Mgt will call you (3^rd time) Nothing again.
Not only do I think it’s unsafe to have a guest remain in a room after expressing to be moved, also I almost got fired, and NO CALL FROM MGT!
This was unsafe a fire hazard and I believe that Towson who I believe owns this property should care about they’re guest enough to right the wrong. I’ll keep campaigning and posting until I get a response! Customer service her is atrocious and mgt does not care about their guest and they’re safety. No call from mgt day#4. SHAME ON YOU. CORPORATE OFFICE LETTER IS NEXT!!!

This Marriott was a nice place to call home for a few days. The location is great. It’s minutes from a major shopping mall and a Trader Joe’s. There is a Starbucks and an Anytime Fitness less than a five minutes walk from it. The room felt like a mini-​apartment. There was a kitchen complete with a mini-​fridge, dishwasher, microwave, paper-​towel dispenser, and dishes. The table you could sit and eat a meal at was a huge plus. The sofa could be pulled out into a bed. The main bed was in a separate room and the bathroom was also a nice size.
I was initially excited when I saw that there was a panel on the wall where you could plug in your devices without having to dig around behind the TV. When I looked closer it was quite disappointing to see how old the panel was. The most «modern» inputs were S-​video and DVI. No HDMI to be found, which is an embarrassment considering it has been out for over 10 years. Not going to be using my HDMI device on this trip! The WiFi that was free was a little spotty but was fine for checking email or watching a short YouTube clip. You have to renew your lease every day. The splash page states that you can have up to five devices on it. For video calls or streaming you would need to get the high speed WiFi that was $ 4 a day.
The gym is mediocre but you could make due with it if you had to. The dumbbells max out at 50 pounds. There is a cable station and couple of treadmills. Luckily I could just walk across the street and get into the Anytime Fitness.
It was kind of disappointing that for what we were paying there was no breakfast included. I recently stayed at a nearby Hyatt and paid less and got breakfast included. On the other hand the room here was much nicer.
The parking garage is awful (but free). I’ve never seen such a tight, cramped garage. I was so worried that I was going to get the side of the car scraped. I ended up getting a validated parking tag and parking at the university across the street to avoid the garage completely.
When I made the reservation I was warned that there could be some noise during the day because of elevator construction. While it looked ugly there were working elevators and the noise wasn’t bothersome.
Overall I was happy with my stay here. There aren’t a lot of quality hotel choices near Towson. So far this seems to be the best.

Hotel was very nice.
–Check in was quick, they had my keys ready.
–The room was awesome. It was a suite with a kitchen, washer/​dryer, dining area, living room, bathroom, bedroom and walk in closet. It felt like a little apartment
–Kitchen has essentials but when I went to actually cook in it, I felt like I was missing a few things (strainer, cutting board, glass bowl)
–They dont offer dish soap so everything had to be cleaned in the dishwasher which I felt weird about.
–Breakfast is expensive. I had it one morning. Oatmeal and OJ were $ 8. I ate breakfast in my room after that.
–Gym was very well equipped. They offered water, apples and free headphones.
–The business center was atrocious!!! The internet was slower than dial up. It was quite horrible to deal with.
–At times, parking was bad, All the spots are awkward and they fill up fast.
–Staff was nice
–Décor was traditional I would say. Not extremely modern but not outdated by any means.
–The street noise from the bedroom was pretty loud but I didnt have trouble sleeping.
I would stay again.

Easy checkin — and got what we ordered — a king suite that was bigger then my first two apartments !!! Basically could have slept 6 people comfortably — separate bedroom, full kitchen, 3 flat screen tv’s, really nice !!! Recommend it to anyone — and walk across the street to Towson University, or around the corner into town for shopping and restaurants.

Great location and friendly staff. When I was in college, this is where my parents would stay. It’s right off York Rd which makes it very accessible without a car. Clean hotel and easy walk to local bars or the Towsontown Mall.

This review is not for a hotel stay, but of the restaurant during happy hour. My sorority chapter, the Tau Omega Zeta chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. has had several functions at the Marriott’s restaurant. It’s location is fantastic and the parking is blessedly free. I have stayed at this hotel as a guest several times and each time, the staff were courteous and attentive. On this on this occasion, my chapter, made up of professional women in our 30’s and 40’s, hosted a happy hour for potential members. We had reserved a space where pre-​planned food was set out on the buffet and a dedicated wait staff. That wait staff consisted of 1 person… for about 30 of us. In addition to us she had at least two other tables to wait on. So her presence in our reserved area was minimal.
The manager did come over to help a couple of times, but he has an entire restaurant to run, and so many of our orders were not attended to. Many of us left our section and went to the bar to place an order.
Finally, one of our members received a receipt for her purchases, but was charged differently, and twice, on her credit card. This took her days to clear up between the hotel and her bank.
I actually like this hotel and their staff. I’m hoping that this day was just one of their «off days». We are hoping to plan another event their again, and, I pray, our experience will be better.

Two nights here for a customer in the neighborhood. I was extremely pleased starting with checkin and throughout my stay. Billy at the front desk was hilarious and attentive. He’s a keeper.
My room was MASSIVE. Bigger than my old apartment and nearly as big as my house! One full size bedroom, one smaller bedroom, a huge bath, large sitting area and dining area with a table and four chairs, wet bar with mini fridge and microwave. Three television sets. A patio!
Very quiet, but I was behind two closed doors, so that might have had something to do with it. Free wifi. The room was serviced well. They do not have room service from their restaurant.
Free parking in their underground garage. I had a Ford Explorer this week, which was a bit challenging to park as the garage has some tight corners and lots of concrete.

BED BUG ALERT!
My aunt and I checked into the Towson University Marriott on Friday, November 15^th 2013. My cousin who we were visiting stayed over Saturday night, and we found a stink bug in my aunt’s bed. Sunday morning, my cousin discovered a small, blood filled insect on our bed. After examining and comparing it to photos from an internet image search, we determined it was a bed bug in its second stage of life and called the front desk.
Neither the hotel manager nor any other customer service representative was on the premises. A non-​English speaking maintenance worker and female security guard were sent to handle the situation. They were unaccommodating and defensive, refusing to even validate that we were dealing with a bed bug issue (please see the photo).
Despite our repeated questions, protests and requests, the security guard would not have a maid wash our laundry or pay to send it out. Hours before checkout, when we should have been enjoying our last brunch of the vacation, she moved us to a pair of rooms with washer/​dryers so we could do our own laundry, but only until 3:00 p.m.
The hotel did not offer room service and we changed into bathrobes to wash the clothes we’d been wearing, so I called down to see if a waiter from the lobby restaurant could bring us up a bread basket or something to eat. They said there was nothing they could do to help. My aunt got dressed and met the hotel manager, who’d returned to the lobby. When she explained our situation, the manager offered to comp a meal, but limited our ordering to two entrees and two drinks.
It was an unprofessional, disappointing, and disgusting experience from beginning to end. Given the severity of US bed bug damages and how much money it would cost Marriott employees and guests to clean their clothes and bed bug proof their homes should the epidemic spread through the hotel, I would have thought, at the very least, that they would treat us with respect, courtesy, and kindness, plus do their best to go above and beyond in order to mitigate our discomfort and inconvenience. We’re obviously not paying a penny for our stay, but a generous meal and a few adult beverages would have felt like more appropriate compensation at the time.

Beverages in the University Club with self serve beers in tap. The food is killer. Ordered the eggplant layer and portobello mushroom with grilled green beans which was a «summer only» menu item. Folks, your vegetarian friends will love the presentation, texture, and taste. Your meat lovers shouldn’t miss the meat. Great overall ambiance and attentive service. Restaurant prices are reasonable. Stay overnight if you must as they are some of the most spacious, well appointed rooms in the area.

Very pleased with this hotel. It’s listed as a 3 star hotel, but I would say its more of a 3.5 star. The staff is incredibly friendly and the lobbies and rooms are spotless (and I’m very picky about that in a hotel). The rooms are nicely appointed for the price point. There are modern touches and nothing is worn, but its not luxury quality either.
The big draw here is the space. The rooms are HUGE. It’s basically like renting a condo. This suite is no hotel room with a crammed in couch and a kitchenette. There is a full kitchen with washer and dryer, a huge bathroom, a dining room, a living room with tons of space, a lovey balcony, and a separate bedroom with a door and walk in closet. Also there are two televisions, a desk, free parking, and free wifi.
The value for price here is incredible. Try and get a Priceline bid to make the stay even more of a value. I ended up paying about 40% of the listed rate.
All in all this is perfect for a family or for a longer stay where you’ll want more space.

1^st time. OMG this place is nice for the price. I used my state government to book a room and the price was just right. The lobby is beautiful. The staff is friendly. This place is ooh soo clean. Went to check my room out and I found nothing wrong. I was pretty impressed to see a wash machine and a dryer. That is just perfect for someone staying long term. The bedroom had a doorway that connected to the bathroom. There was also another entrance to that same bathroom. The room was nice and spacious. There was one bed but, there was also a pull out sofa bed. There was a nice sized table to eat at with four chairs. This was truly like a little apartment. I would love to stay here in the future. I had no complaints. Didn’t get to check out the restaurant on site because I was due to meet a few friends somewhere else for dinner. Being as though this is right next to Towson State University you would expect it to be noisey at times. I didn’t find it to be noisey during my night stay here. Thumbs up for this place if you just want a not so expensive get away.

Large rooms, even have a washer/​dryer in them. But, the overbooked us and only offered low-​end hotels as a substitute and limited miles. Not a good tradeoff. And no breakfast or happy hour.

This place has come a long way since my first stay in 08. I stay here usually twice a year when I have meetings in the area.
Since it’s recent renovations the rooms are nicely updated with flat screen TV, kitchenette, washer/​dryer and all the other amenities. The gym is small but has towels, water, headphones and decent equipment. I think food at the University Club has always been good, whether it was a salad, burger or salmon. They’ve got pool tables and TVs so its a nice place to unwind after the day. Breakfast is OK, they have a buffet style but I rather just go to the Starbucks next door.
Overall the staff has been accommodating and up to Marriott standards. Plus they do offer free B&W printing in the lobby which is a nice bonus. Parking is below in a tiny garage but is free with a pass.
I think the hotel is perfect if you’re visiting your kids at TU or just staying in the Towson area in general. Lots of restaurants are within walking distance.
The only thing I’m not a fan of is that they removed the door from the smaller bedroom in the double rooms — kind of awkward if you’re sharing a room with a coworker, especially when we already refer to it as «the coffin».

Great first stay here. Upon check in I was welcomed with fresh baked cookies and a big smile by a staff member. This set the entire tone for the rest of my stay. I was at the hotel for a work conference. They have huge conference rooms and great catering for meetings. All the staff is very gracious and accommodating. This hotel was originally a senior citizens home. But in 2010 all the rooms were redecorated. I had a huge suite with a living room/​dining room area, a washer dryer, a huge bedroom and a granite topped full kitchen. Place was immaculate. I enjoyed this hotel so much more than the Sheraton in Towson. This will be my new go to place for a quiet relaxing hotel in Towson.

The truth of the matter is that if you traveling with a family there is no better hotel in the area to stay at.
The renovated rooms are fantastic. They are clean, the balcony is safe, and everything is complete Marriott quality with them.
The two real downsides to the hotel are the elevator situation in that they are quite possibly the slowest I have ever seen for a multi-​story building anywhere. And when the hotel gets close to full it does not have enough parking and people put there cars anywhere to find space.
The new restaurant is clean and the food is good but also very slow.
Overall the place is not nearly as bad as reviewed on this site, but it’s also more of an aquired taste than a standard Marriott.

The towson marriott was an ideal location for our meeting.
The rooms were very spacious suites with two bedrooms, a kitchenette and fold out couch. We could have easily fit more than 4 people comfortably into our rooms.
The rooms were in great shape, and must have been recently remodeled.
The staff was all friendly, and fixed an issue with our group billing arrangements right away.
