Animal Control Program

They picked up a cat that passed away and were loving and kind. I’ve called them before for a cat we found passed away by the air la brea park. They are fast and thoughtful.

Torrance Animal Control works hard to find the owners of lost animals. They always answer their phones and are quick to pick up a wondering animal, an injured animal or a dead animal in the street. It’s a hard job and they are good at what they do, I am thankful the City of Torrance has this department available to the community. Thank you TAC for all you do.

I called on Tuesday January 13^th, 2015 around 1pm. I told the lady I wasn’t sure if I was calling the right number, but asked if there was anything they could do about some rather large roadkill blocking traffic on my street. She was very rude and sarcastic and told me «well you can go pick it up and put it in the trash can». Glad my hard earned tax dollars pay these assholes salaries so they can be rude to concerned citizens, instead of just answering a simple question.

I found a dog in my neighborhood and immediately took her over to Torrance Animal Control. The officers there went above and beyond trying to find the owner. The dogs chip was registered to a previous owner and they tried to see if she knew who the new owner was. They also responded to a web site for lost dogs to try and locate the owner. The dog was treated like royalty while waiting to be reunited with her owner.
Great group of folks there.

If there was one star, I’d put that. Their officers are old/​not law abiding/lie…one or all 3. Don’t ever come to Wilson Park w/​your dog. They enforce laws the way they want. My friend got a $ 186 ticket for giving a bread crumb to a duck… signs are small and it a few places that people can’t even see…$ 386 for no leash, poop… they never let me leash and they never allowed me to clean the poop, saying the baggie needs to be on me… this was told to me in the office after everything… friends dog was on his property behind closed caged fences (on his property) some butch woman yelled at him multiple times to leash it or else… don’t they know the law? Many of us think they get paid commission… ticket all illegal activity or no at all pls, I see every other person letting their dog run off 10−15ft. leashes all the time, law says 6.

I took off a star because it you were trying to find their office for the first time without reading their website, you might be wandering a bit, as I did, because there are no clear signs. And then when you arrive, you are still not sure if it’s the right place because it’s a small trailer bungalow.
Other than that, it’s a fine place to get your dog licensed.
They have an annual rabies clinic for most of the month of June.
Did you know there are several different companies that make the rabies vaccine? Most of them contain thimerosol, a mercury-​containing preservative. If you have /​had a child, would you inject them with mercury? I didn’t think so.
I don’t know at all which brand of the rabies vaccine Torrance Animal Control uses because I’ve always taken my dog to a vet that I KNOW uses a THIMEROSOL-​FREE rabies vaccine. Call and ask Animal Control to find out (hey, I can’t do everything for you). FYI, the Centinela pet store has vaccination clinics (go to their website to get the schedule of dates & times), & all of their vaccines are thimerosol-​free.
I just wanted to make more people aware of this office to help reunite owners and pets.
Last year, I found a dog wandering in the neighborhood. She was clean & had a license, but the Animal Control office was already closed, so I kept her overnite. I called Animal Control first thing in the morning at 7:30 am. They came to pick her up. I called the office later in the day to see if anyone claimed her. They said yes, when they drove back to the office, the dog’s owner was already waiting there. They said it was the fastest reunion they’d ever had.
The Animal Control lady mentioned that a lot of people don’t know that their office /​department exists.
Another time, I was driving and found a «Found Dog» sign posted a couple blocks near my home. I called the number and told the lady who answered it wasn’t my dog, but did she try calling the Animal Control office?
She said «No.» She sounded like an older woman. It didn’t seem like she knew that the office exists.
And she also didn’t think to take the dog to ANY vet to get scanned for a microchip for FREE, which you can do.
Bottom Line: She told me she gave the dog to someone in Palos Verdes.
I live in a nice suburban neighborhood. I’m betting the dog belonged to someone who will never know what happened to his/​her dog
I’d like to think that if my dog got lost, someone would make an effort to reunite us, so yes, Torrance Animal Control, I’m glad you’re around.
