Tarrytown Pastry Chef

Came here to get a cake for my grandfather’s 80^th birthday and I was not disappointed. The team at pastry chef made a fantastic cake that was moist, fresh and beautiful! Definitely recommend this place!
The owner and staff are very nice and accommodating! I’ll be coming back with future orders for sure.

My decaf cappuccino, ordered extra, extra hot arrived just as ordered and was delicious. The mini pastries (and Yule log that my husband had) were equally delicious. Their cheesecake is to die for. Am definitely considering ordering the black and white cake for an upcoming birthday.

I have visited this bakery shop now for 4 times and each visit was a let down. Maybe my expectations were bit high. Just moved to this area three months ago and been in search for a good bakery since then. It is taking forever and so far no success.
Pros: the cookies and cakes looks really good. The people working in shop are all smiles and highly polite. The coffee is much better as compared to many surrounding coffee shops, except one. More on that in another review.
Cons: oh boy, the pastry and cookies taste bad. Tried most of the cookies and few fruit tarts and they taste like it had been made for weeks. Cookies are so tough to bite in and I got the feeling the butter used in the ingredients are more like vegetable oil. Fruit tarts are soggy on bottom, like it sat in there for long time. Croissant is ok. The soda bread is mediocre.
Well I will keep on searching for a better bakery.

This was my first experience at the Tarrytown Pastry Chef and I am basing my «star review» on customer service rather than the quality of the cake purchased. I will start by saying the cake was delicious, but the experience left a bad taste in my mouth. I chose this shop because it was located in Tarrytown, had good reviews for their baking, and they offered «delivery». Our association was having a meeting at a local hospital and we were celebrating the anniversary of the group — I personally visited the bakery and asked if they could deliver a sheet cake! The young lady helping me said the cake had to be a certain size to meet the delivery requirements. She called her boss to verify the size of the cake. The cake was larger and more expensive than what we needed, but since it was a sheet cake and difficult for me to carry into the hospital, I agreed to get the bigger cake. The night before the delivery, I received a phone call saying the cake had to be delivered by 11:00 am because the delivery guy goes home and could not wait until 1:15 pm (the original agreed upon time). After explaining that the meeting would not take place until 2:00 pm and that there was no one at the hospital to be responsible for receiving the cake, the owner would not budge on the time. I had to make arrangements to pick up the cake myself! When I arrived at the bakery, no offer was made to reimburse for the fact that the cake was larger than we needed and more expensive only because they agreed to deliver it. — there was only «I am so sorry, my girls should not have taken an order for delivery that late on a Sunday» (the bakery is open until 5:00pm and it is a local hospital five minutes away) — no offer was made to try to deliver! No matter how good the product is… customer satisfaction goes beyond the ingredients in the cake!

Pro: Went for the first time today brought a last minute birthday cake and not only did the birthday girl loves it everyone else did. We got the chocolate mousse cake so delicious. The girl that helped us was so sweet.
Cons: Little upset that the girl that helped us was so helpful and attentive and the other Asian girl was on her phone the whole time texting. Sorta rude.

Pastries are great and super fresh! So happy I was referred to this bakery. Now I know I have a great bakery close to home!

So far this is the only place in town I’ve found capable of making a consistently good cappuccino. And to me, that is like Walter White’s meth. Why risk that low-​quality street garbage when you can get the pure stuff?
Furthermore, here you’re always assured that your dealer will be friendly and have a great supply of above average Italian cookies and pastries on hand. Doesn’t this all just sound like a delight? It is.
In closing, stay in school kids. Just say no to drugs.

I just dropped in to see if they had a Devils food cake with vanilla buttercream icing. They didn’t but made one while I waited! Great service. Now I have a written cake for my sweet husband for his birthday tonight…

Seemingly a lot of other bakeries in the area are closed on Monday, except this place.
I got the Strawberry Shortcake Cake for a birthday and everyone enjoyed it. The icing/​frosting was not too sweet, the cake was definitely moist and not crumbly, and the strawberry fruit filling had a nice amount of sweet and tart and was definitely not from a can. Each slice seemed to have several pieces of strawberry in it.
Everyone who had the cake enjoyed it — so I would definitely be back.
I’ve never really been a fan of Italian butter cookies, as they always seem to be dry and crumbly with almost no taste at all — likely enough their selection seemed to meet my expectation.

I went there after reading all the good reviews. I am not sure what the fuss is about. We tried a few rainbow cookies, a few butter cookies and a croissant.
The croissant was the best of the bunch but they don’t use butter. They use some butter flavored shortening. It tasted like movie theater butter.
I’m not convinced the «butter» cookies had any butter in them. If they did, it was poor quality. Not a terrible cookie but not great.
The rainbow cookies had no marzipan in them. That always disappoints me.
The girls were nice. The place is clean but I wish they used better quality ingredients.

We were in town for a conference that fell on my boyfriend’s birthday, so I stopped in to see about getting a small cake/​treat for the two of us to celebrate. The staff was so friendly and accommodating — they decorated a cute little chocolate mousse cake with «happy birthday» for me. And really reasonably priced, so I also picked up some oh-​so-​tasty cookies. This was the first store I stopped in on our visit, and set a really positive tone for the rest of our stay in Tarrytown.

I had friends and family who were planning a party in the surrounding area from out of State and needed ordered a Red Velvet Cake from Tarrytown Pastry Chef. This is a local Mom/​Pop business and it seems like the local community supports them.
We arrived shortly before the party on Sunday (06-​16-​2013) and were able to locate Tarrytown Pastry Chef with no problems. We walked into the establishment and found this business to be quite busy on a Sunday morning. People from the area were lining up out the door to get fresh Italian pastries from this place. Everything smelled so good but there were no Vegan options=(I guess us California folk expect to have everything out way.
The Red Velvet cake was decorated beautifully and was a total hit at the party. I wanted to thank the staff at Tarrytown Pastry Chef for making the day extra special. There were no problems with the ordering, presentation or taste of the cake. It is always nice when a plan is executed without flaws. If you are looking for a professional Bakery in the business that will satisfy all of your needs no matter where you might be planning the party from, definitely give Tarrytown Pastry Chef a shot.
I highly doubt I will be in need of another cake while in the area but if I was without question I would come back here.
I do wish they had a Vegan /​Gluten free option.
Metered street parking is available right outside of the doors of this business.

I went to this bakery today because my pregnancy cravings are calling for cake!!! So i went with a double layer vanilla chocolate cake and I can safely say this is one of the better cakes i have had. Not too sweet and melt in your mouth consistency. I will be back for the next special occasion!

It’s a bakery. Enough said. I wish the teenage girls who work there would put a little more effort into their customer service, but oh well. Also, it seems like they tend to run out of bagels early in the day– if it’s 9:00 am & people are still asking for bagels, maybe that’s a sign to start preparing more each day? I always end up going down to C-​town & getting one toasted in the deli– $ 1.50 w cream cheese. And they are extremely courteous. Can’t beat that!

If you’re looking for buttery cookies, this is the place to go. They have very fresh, tasty, buttery Italian cookies that are consistently good. They also have an excellent coffee/​crumb cake with cheese inside that my grandmother loves.
Their other pastries and cakes though, aren’t as great, at least in my opinion. I bought a chocolate cake with white buttercream that tasted like it had pepper in it. The buttercream had a strange consistency and taste — it was neither sweet or fluffy. The small pastries are okay, but nothing spectacular.

Located in the heart of Historic Tarrytown, (yes, it is close to Sleepy Hollow-​headless-​horseman-​Ichabod story, my dear Manhattanites), this unobtrosive bakery seems to have every conceivable pastry that my fickle taste buds have ever encountered (ah, now I know why I’ve gained 5 extra pounds. Curse you, buttery Italian cookies!!) Try the chocolate rugelach and Italian cookies. The cookies seem to dismantle and unite with your tongue. If rainbow had a flavor, I would point to the cookies — (talk about FRESH BAKED!!) I would go here for sweets every day but I would also have to run ten miles each day to balance my caloric books.
If you are passing through town, stop by and grab a bag of cookies/​pastries, say hello to the owner «Patsy» — and take a brisk walk to Caravela for some cappuccino!

En route to my wife’s grandparents for dinner, I needed some Italian pastries and maybe some cannoli. I asked at the coffee place around the corner if there was an Italian bakery, and they pointed me here. I wasn’t too encouraged by the name, but walking in, it looked and smelled like an Italian bakery. I was ready to walk out when I didn’t see canolli, but I figured they make them fresh, and I was right.
I picked out a selection of mini-​pastries, a box of cannoli, and snatched up four of these italian cheesecakes I’ve been obsessed with for years (I ate one on the way out, it was not super fresh but the taste was spot on).
Prices were a little high, yes, but the dessert was a big hit at dinner, and both grandparents remarked on how good the cannoli were.

Do you like cookies, cookies with perhaps some butter in them? Well you’ve come to the right place. Being a frequent connoisseur of Italian butter cookies I think I can safely say that the size and flavor variety here is top notch.
They also had quite a selection of cookies and cakes that all looked tempting.
FYI-​the prices are a little steep (for some cookies anyway) and we found this to be true of most places in Tarrytown.
