Holiday Inn Express & Suites Austin Sw – Sunset Valley

I left my car keys at the front desk with Jon, the overnight front desk employee, so my coworker could pick them up in the morning. I guess he thought I meant he could steal my car and abandon it at the shady drug motel down the street. Luckily the police agreed with me and arrested Jon for auto theft.
It’s a real shame the other employees didn’t understand my frustration when I told them we would be checking out early and not paying for our stay, you know, because their employee stole our car. Their Assistant General Manager and the Front Desk Manager never bothered to apologize. Not once, no exaggeration. They were more concerned their buddy Jon was being arrested in front of the hotel. They were actually legitimately confused why we would want to leave the property immediately. Long story short, don’t stay here. The employees are criminals (and really bad ones) as well as idiots.
Oh, I almost forgot! After the officers had placed Jon under arrest for STEALING MY CAR, they informed he had a long wrap sheet and was currently outfitted with a lovely ankle monitoring device. Seems like the type of guy who you’d want to trust accepting customers’ credit cards upon check in, not to mention the fact he has the ability to make himself a key to any room in the hotel. Real quality staff they have running the joint.
Lastly, I am not a rookie traveler. I am currently a Diamond Member with Hilton HHonors (2 years running so far) and previously I was a Platinum Elite with IHG until my job changed preferred hotels.

Spent a Thursday/​Friday night at this property. The check in was fairly painless with previous reservations.
Got to the room and found a nice clean room. Then I sat on the bed and sank almost to the floor. The room was nice and updated but the bed really needed to be updated.
I always gauge a hotel by the quality of the bathtub and this one was in pretty good shape. I didn’t cringe so that was a plus.
The real problem (and what earned them the 2-​star rating) was the cleaning service on Friday.
I left my room about 9am and was gone until about 3pm. I returned with the expectation of taking a quick nap and getting ready for an event that night. I returned to find that my room STILL had not been cleaned.
I went to the lobby and talked to the front desk. I was informed that I hadn’t requested for the room to be cleaned therefore it hadn’t been cleaned. I told the clerk that I had never heard of that, the need to request a room cleaning. He told me that he would bring a maid down and have my room cleaned. I told him that would be great and I waited in the lobby. Finally at 3:45pm I was able to get back into my clean room.
The rest of my stay was fairly uneventful. Check out was pretty smooth, dropped off the keys after verifying the receipt that was dropped off during the room.
Overall, adequate hotel and room. Customer service was lacking and the furniture needs updating.
I’d stay again if there was nothing better in the area but this wouldn’t be my first choice.

We were pleasantly surprised by this hotel’s immaculate, comfortable room and reception areas. The staff was extremely accomodating (Dennis — concierge) who greeted us, processed us seemlessly, offered some needed assistance, and called after we were in our room to be sure it met our expectations. In the lobby was a cookie jar, fruit, and beverages. The morning breakfast was beautifully organized and spotlessly clean. It wasn’t elaborate but included eggs, bacon, sausage, gravy, cereals, yogurts, rolls, muffins, juices, hot drinks, etc. etc. Wi-​fi was free. Our room was perfect, the bed was comfortable, and everything worked perfectly. This is definitely a hotel with rates, service, and cleanliness that should satisfy anyone. We will definitely return.

Rooms are updated, beds are not! If you can get to sleep on one of these worn-​out beds, the loud compressor on the refrigerator will wake you when it turns on.
Some young kid at check-​in that doesn’t really care about his job – just on autopilot.
The freeway is noisy as well. All this combines to make for an unpleasant stay.
Above everything, one needs comfortable sleep and this should be the number one priority of every hotel. Therefore, one star. Go somewhere else.

A very functional, clean and well kept hotel in Sunset Valley in Austin. I’ve stayed here several times for business travel. The staff is friendly and efficient. The rooms are big and clean. Refrigerators are available but not in every room — some have them, some don’t and I’m not sure how you tell but if you want one then ask. They have a decent «free» breakfast that includes both hot and cold items and plenty of hot coffee. This hotel is not particularly close to downtown and there are no walkable restaurants. There are restaurants in close proximity but the highways deem them «unwalkable».

Great hotel. Staff is friendly and helpful. Everything is clean and well taken care of. Location is central but not in the heart of downtown. Overall it was quiet. Did have a noisy neighbor but you run into that at every hotel. Breakfast was not bad. Join the Priority Club to get special treatment and collect points.

I would given this hotel more star if the gym is not such out if shape, the rooms are in good condition as they seem to have update this in the last year. My tv did not work but that’s fine. The internet is slow compare to other properties.

Good HIXpress but Adrian the desk guy was superb. Helping everyone under trying conditions in ice storm and flight delays. The wine and beer happy hour a nice extra

My first stay at the Holiday Inn Sunset Valley convinced me that this hotel is not typical of the chain. More than ever I believe that Holiday Inn Express is outclassed by this hotel & the one in Webster, TX. They deliver as advertised. A rarity in today’s marketplace. When I have more visitors than can be accommodated in my home, this is where I lodge them. If you’re in town and looking for a very clean hotel with a friendly, professional staff just call Kimberley at the Holiday Inn Express, Sunset Valley.

I spoke to JOHN in the sales department about setting up a group rate for my guests. The best rate they offered was $ 200/​per night!!! My wedding is 6 months away! I asked if that was the best they could offer and he was RUDE to me! He told me to go somewhere else! What a jerk! There is no way my guests will stay somewhere with rude service and poor pricing.

I got to give this hotel 5 stars for the simple fact that my hungry coworkers and I would walk in at 5:30am from being out all night «working» … and the staff would kindly let us help ourselves to breakfast even if wasn’t «breakfast time» yet. One gentlemen got the pancake machine going for us, another lady got the eggs and bacon out… Very friendly bunch.
The only thing not so great about this place, the the issue getting a cab into downtown during Austins busy time of year with SXSW.
Cleanliness — Great.
Friendliness — Great.
The only thing I’d ask for, is to have bigger bottles of water added to the vending machines, when hungover… the mini bottles just don’t cut it!

This hotel is in a great location off the highway. Several restaurants and retail stores are nearby.
The rooms are comfortable. If you get one of the rooms with two queen beds they come with a sofa, refrigerator and microwave.
The staff is friendly. The breakfast is included with the room and is not bad for a free breakfast. It has a nice selection.
I will stay here every time I visit our Austin office.

The good:
— Good location for hopping on the highway and accessing austin
— Very close to shopping and food of all varieties
— Safe, easy parking
— The hotel was overall cleanish
— The front desk folks were all very friendly and helpful, and went out of their way to select the right room for us (asked if we wanted corner, or one with microwave/​fridge) It was very nice of them.
The Bad:
— This is a bit of a dated hotel.
— Don’t expect a regular holiday express, it seems like it had a past life under another hotel flag
— The rooms were «meh» and fairly dated.
— This is not a romantic hotel by any stretch of the imagination, but it’s great if you need a clean, safe room to stay in.

This is a great place to stay! Quiet rooms, comfortable, friendly, and the food in the morning is consistent.
They are in a great location if you need a place to stay in southwest Austin. They do run out of rooms for good reason; this is a great place to stay. What more needs to be said
