The Lyndon Technique

Go take her classes for a few months, you’ll understand auditioning so much better. She really helps you get down to the core story and all of her guidelines are right on the money. She’s wonderful to keep returning to when you feel like you’ve gotten rusty, she’ll kick you back into gear.
I’ve studied with her for about 6 years and her prices have never changed.
I’ve done it all with her– regular class, masters class, private coaching, career consults, etc.
The career consults are really significant in stepping up your game! Do one if you feel stuck, for sure.

My daughter is 10 and has been going to Amy’s classes for over a month now and has been going to private coaching. She says she only wants to use Amy for coaching and no one else. My daughter and I both Love Amy and her staff. I have to say I am so happy we had a friend introduce us to her. My daughter has the best time and has been booking. Lately ive had some incredible auditions and have been choking and feeling blocked and stuck and like im missing my chance at success. in light of all this head-​talk, Amy’s coaching was really valuable in reminding me that I do have an access and a roadmap in Amy and her technique.
As I no longer live in LA, I had a skype session with Amy to prep for an audition recently and after our 30-​minute session and completing the tasks she assigned to me after we finished, I felt totally confident in my audition and was completely present for the first audition in a while. I actually felt like I knocked it out of the park.

Amy is a genius when it comes to understanding a scene and showing you how to tell the best story.
She has a guideline that runs you through a scene and allows you to see the whole thing clearly.
She uses humor and positive enforcement to get you to a place where you can play.

This is not an acting class, she assumes that you are able to act and you’ve worked on your craft before coming to her. She runs an audition class – what a novel idea! I was in a different acting class for years and the focus on the audition process was pitiful!
Amy doesn’t baby you either– but she isn’t mean– She will work with you until you get it! Also she has like 80 imdb credits, so she obviously knows how to book herself, and her clients are booking all the time. It is also nice to surround yourself with working and talented actors– I feel inspired by everyone around me in this class.
Money always is a factor, so just so you know she is very affordable:)

Classes run long, but that’s okay! All actors are friendly, and a lot of them have a lot of experience. Amy gives a lot of good feedback, if we do something that’s not needed in a scene or if we have a habit that we need to work on, she let’s us know to work on that.
Her technique is good and I have used it breaking down all my scripts, even those I use at casting director workshops. Relating to the other character in the scene and having emotions are what she looks for and it’s what casting looks for.
Class is always a lot of fun!

I can say that she is one teacher and mentor that I know is honest and gets results immediately for the audition process. I have had her coach me in class and taped auditions and when I work with Amy, I know I am sending in quality work. I wish I would have met Amy when I first got into the industry. I would have saved sooo much time and money. I have been a working performing artist and actor for over 16 years and have studied with many instructors and coaches in my time, and I must tell you, by far, Amy and her coaching has been the most helpful, caring and rewarding I have experienced. I’ve been a student of Amy’s for a few years now. Before working with her, I had no clue how to walk into a casting office and use my talent to its potential. I have great training, have studied every technique, but auditioning was still this enigma. I feel like the craft doesn’t necessarily prepare you for the audition room.
You spend all of this time caring for your artistic child, and come time for an audition (huge high pressure situation), you artistic child freaks out. At least for me.
Working with Amy and her technique gave me the tools I needed to apply my acting chops in a cold-​read scenario. I’ve learned to look at any script and feel confident that I can deliver what casting (the business side of this whole art) wants in order to become a working actor. Amy’s no sugar-​coater, but she’s also one of the people rooting for her students success and will cheer them on their entire career. She’s in the business of coaching because she genuinely wants to help actor’s become the top 1% of working actors… which in this town… is seemingly impossible most of the time. Not to mention she’s obviously not out for money because her classes cost a far-​cry from other classes in LA. I’m totally one of those one-​star-​or-​five-​star kind of reviewers, and Amy Lyndon is in the 5-​star category for me. I’ve been training with Amy Lyndon since 2010. Before her, I had something like 3 credits on IMDB — all co-​stars — and if you look at my imdb page now, I have something like 15 or 20 credits, including two series regulars and starring in a feature film. My representation went from nobody to one of the biggest management companies in LA — hell, I even have an entertainment lawyer!
Amy’s cool — and cheap. I paid for coaching from someone else (I’m not going to name names unless I write a review they can respond to), and it was $ 190 an hour! I was like, «Daaaammmmnnnn…» Amy’s $ 100 an hour, but usually I only need a half hour and even if I booked the hour, she’ll just charge me for the half. I like to consider myself Mr. Respectable, so I figured I should give her the full check because she blocked the time out, and she wouldn’t do it. I was impressed.
I did some searches on other reviews for her and they’re all really good. I got her book on Amazon, that was awesome, and I just use that if I can’t get coaching for an audition. I also did her career consultation, which helped me get my reps. So since I’m recommending Amy, I recommend getting her book to get you familiar with her «technique», getting a consultation to get a feel for where you are in your career (she used to be a big manager), and then trying a coaching. Her staff is nice, she’s nice, and all that is going to cost less than anyone else I’ve tried, so DO IT!
Or don’t, I guess. Less competition for me… BWA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!

I went to see Amy Lyndon by accident. A girl from my acting class referred me to Margie Haber Studios for cold reading and when I got home I couldn’t remember Margie’s name. So I googled cold reading classes, LA and Amy Lyndon popped up. I thought the name Amy Lyndon looked familiar and I thought she was the one I was referred to. When I called, her assistant was really nice and then I made an appt to see Amy. During this time I was really having a hard time doing one short scene in a casting office without having the run of a stage or set. I was basically mindeffing myself and using the constricted space in a casting room as an excuse for my discomfort with auditioning. I know this now, but back then when I called Amy I didn’t. I thought I was losing my talent and freaking out. So I go to Amy’s house in the valley and I meet her. She seemed nice and sat me down in the living room while she finished with another client outside. They were sitting in the backyard area and I was close enough to where I could hear them. I got a glimpse of the guy, he was in his early 40’s not attractive and dressed a mess (not judging just giving a visual). So I’m sitting and I’m overhearing. And Amy says «So when you get in the room with an agent, what are you going to say?» And he says something like — «I’ just moved to LA and I’ve caught the acting bug and I want to do acting and give it a shot.» And then Amy gave him some notes on what not to say (which weren’t all that helpful) and then he said thank you and he left really happy. So I was kind of alarmed that she just let him walk out. So I see her, we say hi and then she sits down, I tell her what’s going and we read a scene. And she starts directing me in the scene. And it’s bad. It’s just bad, and just as she’s telling me I’d be a director’s worst nightmare I’m thinking in my head «you are an actor’s worst nightmare.» She’s not great – she’s awful – she can’t direct worth a damn and she has no idea how to listen to what a client’s problem is and help them through it. I wouldn’t recommend her– I got her book for $ 15.00 and it’s got good tips – but you can get those tips and a lot more by going somewhere else. I ended up going to Margie Haber and auditing after I found out I made a mistake with the names. I didn’t end up going there either (it seemed great but really expensive), and instead went to Annie Grindlay, who is amazing and used to teach at Margie’s. She got me out of my funk after ONE day. ONE freakin’ day! I think it had a lot to do with going to Margie’s for the day and listening and then also sitting through Annie’s first day which about an hour lecture (amazing). I think I just needed to HEAR that what I was feeling was just tension that was normal and doing a cold reading class would help. What I got ONE DAY with Annie I don’t think would have ever been accomplished with Amy Lyndon– –she just seems a little bit like a wannabe out to make a buck and doesn’t really have that connection that great acting teachers and coaches have.
