History
Established in 1990.
When we purchased our 1901 Victorian home in 1987, we did not plan to become a bed and breakfast. Our goal in purchasing this home was to «save an old house.» We are preservationists at heart and after touring many historic homes, decided we should preserve a house in our community. We wanted our two daughters to experience the joy of living in a historic home. Our plans never included a bed and breakfast. However, on a very busy weekend in July of 1990, we took in some guests who needed a place to stay. We enjoyed the guests and the experience so much we decided we would open our home to others as a bed and breakfast. We continue to take in guests and enjoy meeting people, sharing our story and the home’s history. The history of this great house gets told and retold. History continues to be made here. As its name suggests, Dreams of Yesteryear is «the kind of place Victorian dreams are made of.»
Meet the Business Owner
Bonnie and Bill M.
Business Owner
Bonnie and Bill were high school sweethearts. Bonnie worked as an administrative assistant at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point for 41 years and retired in 2011. Bill owned a water conditioning business which he bought from his father in 1980. In 2011 the business was sold to their daughter – making this a three generation business.
Bonnie and Bill enjoyed touring old houses and were saddened every time a historic building in their hometown would be demolished «in the name of progress.» This inspired them to purchase/restore an old house. In 1987 they purchased the Jensen House. In 1988, Bonnie and Bill became preservation consultants after researching/nominating their house to be listed on the National Historic Register.
Bonnie served several terms on Stevens Point’s Historic Design Review Commission and was chair of the Downtown Design Committee. Bill still works in the water conditioning business and serves on several business, civic, and church committees.
