The Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel

Recently stayed at the hotel for 2 nights for a gymnastics meet that was being hosted in State College. The room was very clean and the entire staff was very nice and helpful.
In addition, my wallet somehow fell out of my pocket as I left my room. I didn’t realize it was lost until I was 3hrs away. I called the hotel. The staff was helpful in finding it. The head of housekeeping overnighted it me.
I would totally recommend this hotel.

Have stayed here many times for conferences. They have great conference facilities with a good bar and a higher scale dining option in «The Gardens», which has a good buffet. Rooms are good size and comfortable. They all have a mini fridge.

We stayed recently while attending a football game. We found the Penn Stater to be a case where looks can be deceiving…
On the one hand, the hotel was easy to find, parking was ample, the lobby was lovely, and check-​in was unremarkable (the way we like it to be). Our room was very large, with two double beds, a pull-​out sofa, and arm chair with ottoman. It could easily have accommodated 6 guests…
But…the room was fairly chilly, despite the 70 degree setting, and air was blowing all night. The only coverings on the bed were the sheets and a thin blanket (a thin fleecy one that moved all over the place). We were COLD. The pillows were flat and lumpy. The mattress was soft and non-​supportive — when my husband shifted, so did I…
The restaurant was slow and one got the feeling that they really just wanted people to eat from the buffet. However, once we got our food, it was great.
GIven the price tag — not out of line with the competition, but will much lesser quality service and facility — it’s not high on my list to return to.

Stayed here for a PSU Open House this past weekend. Room was very spacious and clean. Staff was friendly, ample parking and smooth check in. The location was great for where we needed to be. My one criticism would be to update the rooms and the hotel carpet, however I’m more about a CLEAN room than I am about a designer-​inspired one. Otherwise, this was a decent hotel.

Lovely facility in which the staff truly cares for their guests. Not sure why there were some bad reviews here… our room is spotless and we’re staying for 4 days having been here for 3 days. Many of the conference center’s employees are young and don’t all have a great deal of experience. Whatever these kids may lack in proficiency, is definitely made up in kindness and answers that will be found.
BTW roomservice breakfast was perfect…

I recently stayed at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel for a business conference– this allowed me to experience the hotel (2 stars) and the conference center (4.5 stars).
The hotel was easy to find, parking was ample, and the check in was quick and easy (although the front desk staff could be better educated on the hotel and events going on). The lobby was beautiful with seating and a nice warm fireplace. Arriving to the rooms was a bit of a shock– I could not believe how dated the rooms were. I expected alot from a hotel on the Penn State Campus– it seems like they have a major for everything there, shockingly enough it appears they don’t have a hotel design room major.
The room was decent, but could use a good carpet cleaning and some attention in other areas. The hallways and elevators could also use some loving, again they were dated and in need of some cleaning.
As for the conference center, it was great. The conference I was at made use of a small ball room for a reception and a class room for presentations. The classroom was great and hooked up with all the technology needed for an A+ presentation. The ballroom and food served at the reception was awesome. If you’re having an event here– order the bacon wrapped scallops, so buttery– yummmm.

Stayed here for a June conference. The weather was fantastic, and I loved hanging out on the patio area between sessions. Lots of nooks to tuck into and recharge. The food was great as well, and the conference rooms were roomy and bright with comfy chairs.
Accommodations were pretty standard. Wifi was easy to connect, and my room had what I requested (bed, desk, etc). The front desk was incredibly helpful, especially as my work paid for the room and they have some wonky practices regarding out-​of-​state travel. But they were gracious and helpful!

Very nice Sunday Brunch… Reasonably priced, very nice atmosphere and good service. The brunch menu was diverse and fairly extensive. Not a lot of breakfast competition in State College… Would definitely come back again.

Just returned from three day stay. Accommodations were nice, but terrible service from front desk to food and beverage, the staff is not helpful or friendly.

I liked this Hotel. Clean Quiet. Friendly. The van will run you down town. There is a nice running trail through some farm land and they also have a small gym.
Food looked good (I did not eat) with standard hotel prices.

I have stayed here twice during football season. I have never stayed in any other hotel in State College on a football game weekend. Because of the time of year, I won’t comment on price.
The staff is exceptional. They do go out of their way to accommodate you. I left a very expensive watch and it was found when the room was cleaned. The staff called and after they confirmed it was mine, they mailed it to me. The shuttle service during the games is wonderful and because of the location, it’s not bad traveling to the hotel on gameday. The bar/​restaurant is fantastic. They have a great selection of food and beers. The staff there is also great. The Garden’s brunch is okay. I think it’s a little pricey and you are better off venturing to Cracker Barrel, but if you don’t want to leave, it works.
The pool is advertised as a lap pool, but that is deceiving. You can do short laps but calling it a lap pool is a real stretch.
Now onto the bad parts — the rooms. Both times the rooms were hot even though it 20 degrees outside for the one game. We tried to turn the heat off but it didn’t work. The last time we went over homecoming, the room smelled like a locker room. It was awful. We left a day early because of it (yes, we lost that $$). The rooms are outdated and are comparable to budget chain rooms. I don’t know where the profits go, but it’s not to renovating the rooms.
I don’t plan on staying here again. I’ll stay in Altoona before I get another room here.

I stayed on the first floor and I was very disappointed in the room. The carpet was worn and dirty. The little couch in the room was also unappealing as it looked to be unclean and old. There was an extra blanket in the room but it was unusable because it smelled. The drapes had dust on them and the sheets on one bed was stained. I would not recommend this out dated hotel. I gave it two stars because the food and service in the bar were good.

The Penn Stater is a nice hotel and the staff seems friendly. I am giving it two stars for three reasons. 1) The rooms are a bit dated. The bathtub in my room shows rust and the fixtures are aged. Not to mention the phones are circa 1980. 2) Housekeeping does the bare minimum; on two separate stays they did not empty the trash can and the only noticeable change was the bed being made. And they knocked on my door at 7:45am looking to get in. 3) I have stayed at the Penn Stater 10 — 12 times over the past five years. On two back to back occasions while attending conferences I requested a 1 hour extension to the check out time. Both requested were declined due to the full house they had coming in (same reason given word for word — seemed canned). The rub is that the gentleman at check-​in on the second occasion said the hotel was not full and it «should not be a problem».
The on-​sight conference facilities make the hotel convenient, but it is clear that customer service is not the priority for this establishment. If staying in State College for anything other than a conference at the Penn Stater, I would chose a major hotel chain.

Here for Setsucon again. Hotel is still rather good, but needed to bump a star down due to our room. This year we were on the 3^rd floor of the hotel and while it was clean, the room was not as nice as the 5^th floor rooms where other people we knew were staying. Our room had an older model flat panel TV that was at best 26 inches. Bathroom was small. What has mostly caused this review are the beds. They were spine shattering hard to a point they were uncomfortable. Food at the The Gardens and Legends is still excellent.
What was also annoying was the lack of delivery menu’s at the front desk. You have to visit
. Frankly the sites menu layout is poor and how do you expect patrons to know the area? While I use Unilocal,many people don’t. That’s what the hotel delivery menu’s are for!

Hotel: Great! Fantastic rooms, nice and roomy and clean. Beds were comfortable. Nice selection of channels on the TV. Quiet. Maid staff were great! In fact, all of the hotel staff we encountered were wonderful.
Conference Center: This place puts on one great conference. The food they provide you is very good, especially considering most «conference food» is not very good at all. They are willing to accommodate to special diets and do so very well. Some of the conference rooms/​furniture could use a facelift but overall the conference center areas are very nice. Bathrooms are kept very clean. Only issue was the internet! I had a very had time accessing internet in the larger conference hall areas (i.e. Presidents Hall) which was frustrating since it was a green conference and I had to access all handouts online. Other than that a great experience!

An old style hotel convention facility on the out-​skirts of town. Here’s the details:
Being old style, it is really spread out.
A bit dated, but they do a great job of keeping it up.
Very clean.
Very nice indoor pool and fitness room.
Beds are tempurpedic. Rooms are smallish. Shower is hot and forceful.
WiFi is free and consistent. No issues.
They will shuttle you to town and pick you up.
Staff is very friendly and helpful
Better than average breakfast buffet for 10 $.
All in all, a great experience. You could do worse, and maybe not better.

I stayed here for just one night after the Bob Seger concert at Penn State last week. I really liked the hotel, which is about a 10 minute drive from downtown State College. Everything was new and very clean, and the staff at the front desk was great. I had a basic room with two double beds, which were comfortable enough for me (I never sleep good in any hotel, anywhere) and not drowning in pillows or heavy blankets. The room had a cool little bar area with a granite countertop and a small sink, along with a mini-​fridge (empty) and the usual coffee maker and fixings. The room itself was quite big, with a large window that actually opened. Due to the fact that the hotel is outside of town, it’s very quiet at night. There was a nice leather armchair facing the television (an older tube type, unfortunately, but it worked just fine) and a desk with handy outlets and data ports. The Wi-​Fi was the free AT&T type that’s in all the Starbucks, and had pretty decent speed. The group I was with took the free shuttle van over to the Bryce Jordan Center for the concert; the driver was very nice and knew a neat shortcut to get us there in about five minutes. The same van and driver picked us up after the concert. Unfortunately, I had to be back in Pittsburgh by 10AM the next morning, so I didn’t get to try out the bar, restaurant, pool, etc. I would definitely stay there again.

One of the nicer hotels I’ve stayed in. Friendly staff, very clean rooms. Second time there for a conference. Good rooms for conferences – comfortable with ability to use electronic equipment. Free wifi throughout the hotel is also a plus. Just a short jump from Penn State and the football stadium. Plenty of parking (free). Heard the restaurant is good but did not try it; however the lounge was fun and lively, bar staff attentive. Would definitely stay at again.

The Penn Stater is one of the nicer hotels in the State College area. It’s clean, the lobbies are airy, even during a football weekend. Coolest thing about those weekends is the complimentary shuttle that takes you through corn fields (!) by coach bus from the hotel to the stadium. Really cool! Like all State College hotels/​motels, you get shaken upside down during football season, but the Penn Stater makes you feel good about it.

Nice hotel in the Innovation Park area of Penn State. Could use some updating. Great staff and very convenient, accommodating shuttle. Two restaurants on site. The Gardens is a little pricier, decent food, inconsistent service. Legends is a Penn State-​centric sports bar. The hotel is ready for a reno, but nice, roomy rooms in a nice setting, with wooded walking trails adjacent. Convenient to the Innovation Park area. Shuttle will run you anywhere in State College. Very competitively priced. Very convenient to where I needed to be, I’ll most certainly use this property again.
