Country Inn & Suites

Nice, clean hotel near State College and all the area has to offer. Check in was easy and quick, staff friendly and professional. Didn’t have the breakfast here so I can’t comment on that. Overall, this is a nice hotel.

Clean hotel and a spacious room, but overall incredibly disappointing.
A group of colleagues and I stayed at this hotel for a conference at the Penn Stater, which is only a few minutes down the road. We were promised a complimentary hotel shuttle to bring us around the area, which is one reason we picked this hotel for our stay. When we arrived for check in, we asked for the shuttle, and were told the shuttle was being repaired. They didn’t not offer any substitute service, did not offer to comp for taxis, or even point us in the direction of the CATA bus system. All they offered was to provide us phone numbers for a taxi that we would need to pay for. They did not apologize whatsoever and did not seem phased that we were stranded.
The «free hot buffet breakfast» left something to be desired. There were breads, bagels, waffles, cereal and some mixed fruit… The only «hot» offering was what runny, unappetizing, white scrambled eggs with a side of finely chopped ham. Very odd. I stuck with an English muffin. There was supposed to also be some complimentary «reception» in the evenings, consisting of appetizers and drinks– but all I saw was some cookies and crackers with some juice.
Overall very disappointing stay and service. Don’t come here unless you have a car and are willing to drive yourself around– and be ready to go out for every meal.

We usually visit State College several times a year to visit relatives. We only stay at the Country Inns when we’re there. Very comfortable rooms and great rates. Staff have always been very accommodating. Rooms, bathrooms, and hallways have always been very clean and well maintained. The free hot breakfast is very much appreciated before you get back on the road. Location is very convenient to State College and Penn State, as well as Bellefonte. Never had a stay at this hotel that we didn’t enjoy.

Our stay was a very pleasant experience. The hotel and room were new and clean. The bed was comfortable. The complimentary Wi-​Fi worked perfectly. The TV worked and the clocks were set with the correct time. The bathroom was clean. The front desk staff was very nice. It was quiet in the hotel. The complimentary breakfast was ok. The location is perfect for visiting Penn State (why else would anyone be in this area).
Here is my only negative, and frankly, it is a big negative. The prices and rules regarding length of stay change depending upon what is going on at Penn State. So, if nothing is going on, lower prices and no minimum stay requirement. If something is going on, rates increase and minimum stay requirement. I find this offensive:

After reading several reviews, we decided to stay here for our school visit to Penn State.
It is conveniently located a few miles from the heart of College Ave and to the Admission’s Office.
The hotel offers a fitness center and swimming pool, but we didn’t take advantage of those amenities.
The room was very clean and very quiet. The bed was comfortable.
The dining area was a good place for me to hang out and watch TV while my family slept — they are early sleepers.
The breakfast was the usual fare of eggs, waffles, cereal, fruit, yogurt and variety of breads. The food was good and hearty.
Parking was ample and simple.
Overall, if my son decides to go to PSU, this is the place I would stay if I were staying at PSU.

We stopped here without a reservation and were happy to find a room. We had been driving for 8 hours. What a treat to find cookies in the lobby! The desk staff was friendly and helpful. Our room was basic, but clean and fresh, with a very comfy bed. A great value. We had to leave in the morning, so didn’t have time tomuse the pool or fitness center. Wifi worked well. Would stay here again.

Clean quiet friendly. Close to a lot if things. Not far from the airport. Yea it has a shuttle. No it is NOT pet friendly.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel when we were in town for a football game. The price was excellent so we were a bit weary. We were pleasantly surprised! The hotel was clean and the staff were very friendly. The continental breakfast was excellent — many more choices than a typical continental breakfast. There was always fresh coffee and cookies in the lobby.
We will definitely be staying here in the future when we visit State College!

I have stayed at this hotel a few times. It is my preferred place to stay when I am visiting State College. The building and rooms are newer, nice, and clean. The beds are comfortable. The shower is large and clean. I do not hear noise in the hallways. The price is pretty low. The employee at the front desk forgot to return my credit card upon check-​in once, and another employee made me wait while she took a very long phone call when I just had to turn in my keys upon checkout. The breakfast, which is included in the price, is nothing fancy but tastes OK.

Room was nice, bed was comfortable. The staff was friendly, and attentive. There was a mini fridge, and microwave in the room. Indoor Pool, Spa, and Fitness center are available just past the elevators on 1^st floor. Breakfast hot or cold, scrambled eggs, oatmeal, cereal, juice, fruit every morning, in a good size room. You can make your own waffles, Close to campus.

Great location, 30 min drive from the Bald Eagle State Park, which is a must for easy hiking trails, 10 mims from State College. The staff at the Inn is very attentive and informative, clean, spacious rooms, good breakfast. The best part about the hotel is the marsh located within 5 walking minutes, where we got to see deer, rabbits and birds. A great restaurant within a few minutes as well

My son is entering Penn State in the fall, so we were here for New Student Orientation. This hotel is literally about 1 mile from campus, so it is the perfect location. From this hotel, you drive 1 mile into campus, turn right on Shortlidge, turn right on McKean, and you can then pick up or drop off your child in the South Halls (where they stay during orientation). Super convenient. This hotel is in excellent condition, beds were comfortable, plenty of pillows, towels, etc. Breakfast had a lot of options, both hot and cold, which was nice. Definitely will be back!

This place was great! They let us check in early, everyone was very friendly and competent, the room was beautiful, clean, and quiet! There was even a table of cider, cocoa, and cookies in the lobby, which was a very nice touch. Plenty of free parking, free wifi, and very convenient to downtown State College and the PSU campus. The price was really good compared to other similar places in the area like the Hilton Garden and both Hamptons. I think the quality was similar to those hotels, but the Country Inn is newer and cheaper!
My only complaints are that the water in the shower wasn’t as hot as I would have liked (not cold by any means, just not crazy hot, and I only mention this because someone in a previous review had a problem with the water being cold, so maybe this is an ongoing issue), and the (free) breakfast basically consisted of meat, eggs, and starch (pretty standard for a hotel breakfast though). Still, neither of those was a big deal at all compared to how overall pleased I was with this place!

Like I was saying the place is super clean, they are friendly and discounted me 20% on a walk in. It’s a safe and pleasant feel in the public areas. The room is just clean, modern, and cozy. No trace of smoke or grime. The pool is open till midnight and clean as a whistle. Staff was inviting and had complimentary toothbrush and paste at the ready for me. The nice flat screen has a little audio lag, I think it’s cause of direct tv. The wi-​if was free but my only complaint, but it worked fine just a bit slow. I am really judgmental of hotels cause I feel like 10 bucks in either direction can decide my fate for a few nights and easily get buyers remorse. That was not the case here, this place is a WINNER.

I’ve stayed at different Country Inn & Suites around the country & I always really like them. This one was no different. Very nice upon check-​in, pink lemonade & cookies in the lobby seemingly at all times.
Our room was spacious & very clean, a good-​sized bathroom & ridiculously comfy pillows on the bed. I wanted to steal one of those, but I behaved myself & didn’t. The hotel was very quiet during sleeping hours, which is always appreciated by me. The workout room is nice & clean; small, but I don’t expect much at a hotel. They have 2 TV’s in the workout room, 2 treadmills, a bike, an elliptical & some weights. The pool looked really nice but I didn’t get a chance to actually go swimming. You also can’t go wrong with a big complimentary breakfast in the morning, scrambled eggs, waffles, bacon, biscuts, fruit, cereal, oatmeal, etc.
I’d definitely recommend this hotel, I like that it’s close to campus but not right in the middle of everything. Driving from the hotel & parking near all of the bars/​stores downtown was no problem at all. You really can’t beat the price for a room this nice in a college town.

Fairly new facility. Staff was very friendly and helpful even on a busy football weekend. Rooms nicely appointed with plenty of closet space. Very good breakfast area and coffee/​cookies available in lobby ²⁴⁄₇. Location was good, near almost everything. Oh yea, asked upon arrival for a reduction in rate with 2 day stay and got a good savings. Overall, really nice and I looking forward to staying again next year!

We spent THON weekend at Country Inn and Suites, and for the most part, had a good stay.
The facility is new, and has most of the ammendies you’d expect. There is an indoor pool and hot tub (although the water in the pool was a bit chilly for winter), fitness room, and a nice-​sized room for breakfast, which in itself was pretty good for a continental breakfast. The U-​makem’ waffles, scrambled eggs, yogurt, cereal, buscuits and gravy, and toast/bagels.mini donuts and muffins were available both days, although the sausage pattys were replaced on Sunday with rosemary potatoes… a lateral move, in my eyes. I’d say the food quality was as good as any hotel breakfast I’ve had, and it was warm, tasty, and kept replentished. Thumbs up. Other nicities include ²⁴⁄₇ coffee in the lobby, and two fireplaces with comfy seats. War and Peace, anyone?
The room itself was the standard layout (although, nicely decorated by our THON org). The mattresses were plush but not enveloping, the pillows were a bit small but medium-​density, and the bathroom was modern. Nice room, but my only gripe would be that there was no hot water to be had on Sunday AM around 9 AM. Maybe it was a 5^th floor thing, or a shower-​rush thing… but we couldn’t get anything out beyond luke-​warm. Definately no steam. I did mention this to the front desk, and the woman behind the counter seemed to think it was an anomoly. Hope so, but it did speed up our departure to breakfast. Also, as a previous Unilocaler noted, the free wi-​fi was a bit slow, but reliable.
This is a nice facility– hot water aside– and it’s location near 322 on the back side of the football/​basketball complex makes it an easy in and out to events. I think it has earned itself another shot with us…

Nice stay in a new, modern hotel of comparable style and quality to Courtyard by Marriott. Indoor pool and full buffet breakfast included. Small quibbles include direct tv which fails compared to Comcast or Verizon, slow (but free) wifi, and a «full» breakfast that lacked any kind of meat or fresh fruit. Like all the hotels in the State College area you will be jacked with both triple rates and mandatory two night minimums on event weekends. Necessity, it would seem, never drove a good bargain.
