Love this place! Best gyro meat I’ve ever had. I always come in thinking I will try something new but nothing beats the gyro!

I’m glad I’ve decided to give this place a try 3 years ago. I’ve been eating here a few times a month ever since. The food is great. Everyone is friendly. Some of my favorites include the greek dressing, the chicken, the steak, the pita, the rice, the green beans, and the lamb shank.

My wife and I love Shish kebab and we’ve been looking for a good place to get it since our favorite place closed years ago. I use to drive by this place on occasion, but didn’t think it looked promising. Well yesterday we decided to give it a try since we have been craving Shish kebob lately. We both ordered the shish kebob, mine with fries, hers with the rice. For the price, they give you a lot. The meat, which the menu said was pork not lamb, was good but slightly overcooked. The fries were great and the pita bread was delicious. The wife said her rice pilaf could’ve been warmer, but otherwise she enjoyed her meal as well. On a scale of 1 to 10, with our old place being a 10, Athenian is a 9. My only other disappointment in this place was that their soft drink selection was only Coke, Orange, and Sprite. The service was great as well. We will definitely be back.

This place is filthy… clumps of dust drop onto food over the uncleaned grease covered vents in the food preparation area. Got up immediately to leave before ordering after the waitress picked her nose coming to our table. Got the guts to give it another try two months later and through the window we see the same waitress picking her nose as she is serving a table… so last time ever going there. Before this nastiness, we noticed the quality of food dropped significantly… they either changed their food source to a cheaper vendor or they are plain out skimping on their food. Don’t go to this dump.

Good food and great service. This is our new favorite breakfast spot. The gyro breakfast is delicious and cheap. The blueberry pancakes are worth trying too.

Arguably the best go to spot to eat in the shores. Amazing flat bread euros. Just go here and enjoy. Pricing is great and service is usually pretty good.

The food is extremely overpriced here and I’m not sure why… I ordered one of the dinner combos and the chicken was so chewy it wouldn’t even come apart. The rice is pretty flavorless too.

This place is simply amazing. The shish kabobs. The coney islands. And flaming cheese and pita yes please. I also love how they butter and grill the pita bread. I’ve even gotten other people hooked on this place. It’s a nice hidden little gem on Harper road.

Been going here at least 25 years. Gyros, Beef Shishkbob, salad, fries, deep fried cod, rice all totally delish. Their tartar sauce is passable but not as good as Cracker Barrel or Big Boy’s or Culver’s. Fries will ALWAYS be fresh and I can tell they take good care of their oil. Grill area is wiped down constantly. Very clean place IMO. Waitresses are very good. I’ve never asked for a drink refill there. They just bring it. Good food, good waitresses it’s all good. Just don’t expect small talk in there… they are all business. Serve’ve fast and hope they eat and leave fast cuz many times there’s a line starting especially on weekends/evenings. Wait staff are not very friendly. A couple waitresses there are fairly friendly. The owner seems to live there. He’s there every time I have. Once years ago I was being very nice while paying my bill. I told him the food is consistently good and he said in an aloof dry manner«ya I know and it’s reasonable too» like he had an attitude. Yes… The owner seems quite condescending as if to say«hey I don’t have to be overly nice and smiley to you cuz I know my food will keep you coming back» Lol he didn’t say this but that was how he came off to me. Food always cooked well. Only once I can remember my food was“okay”. I noticed the owner was cooked it. He needs to pay his good cooks well and leave the grill to the experts. I blond cashier I believe is his wife. She’s the only one I’ve ever seen smile in there. They are constantly wiping down things. It’s as clean as you can get compared to other places. I’m one fussy diner!

I eat here quite often. And have for the last 20 years. No need to venture to Greek Town. The Greek food here is just as good. So is the broiled trout. The breakfast menu is excellent as well. For dessert try the homemade rice pudding it’s amazing. That is the good part of the menu. The not so good would be the potato pancakes(previously frozen) and the BBQ ribs(sinew, pre-heated in microwave).

Greek food is very good and reasonable price. I like their kebob, gyro, greek salad. I believe they have though some pasta menu which I wouldn’t recommend. atmosphere is rather casual and not super but reasonably friendly staff will greet you. have not tried breakfast menu yet.

This neighborhood favorite always impresses with authentic, home style greek cuisine. I had the gyro dinner and it was arguably one of the best I’ve had. The lemon rices soup also hits the spot as it grows colder outside. The nice man behind the counter even gave me a free mug.

Great food here. Excellent gyros and Greek salads. We’ve been here many times and never been disappointed in any dish, including breakfast. I highly recommend the Athenian Pasta if you want to try something a little different. It’s so good, you can’t stop eating. The only reason I don’t give this place 5 stars is that the wait staff is about as cold and unfriendly as I can tolerate in a restaurant. It’s all business for the staff at the Athenian. I have to say though, they are efficient, just not personable. The prices are reasonable as well.

My first experience will be my last. My husband wanted to try something new so we stopped in. When we entered to have a sit down lunch the first thing I noticed was the overwhelming smell of grease. I’ve worked in many establishments and my husband has work with kitchen systems for years. This smell often comes from owners not cleaning their hood’s and kitchen often and well enough. Maybe the make-up air was not working. Either way the smell made the establishment seem dirty. The booths are very small. The food was not impressive. I may have been able to get better from a local Coney Island. Not to mention the price of the food was pretty high. If I am going to be paying $ 8 to $ 12 dollars on a lunch dish I want it to taste good.

I thought they were alright. I think I’d go with a different dish next time. I got the shish combo which was decent amount of food. Just think I would’ve been happier with a chicken dish

I don’t get the rave reviews. I can’t respect a «Shish-Ka-Bob» Greek style restaurant that doesn’t have Soulvaki(real lamb shish-ka-bob). As far as I know, the only«lamb» that they serve at this place is that nasty crap on a loaf roll that they put on gyros. Their tziki sauce is watery, their red sauce for their rice is flavorless and blah, and the rice isn’t good. It was over-priced, dirty, the owner’s families kids were running around, taking up booths, bouncing around uncontrollably, their Mom or Aunt was chasing them around and yelling at them… over-all, the atmosphere sucked. I’ve had breakfast and lunch at this place, wasn’t impressed either time. To rave about gyros that are cut from a loaf, even fresh cut from a loaf, is ridiculous, IMO. It’s frozen, processed food that’s warmed and served. Pretty gross if you ask me.

Iv been here b4 a long time ago and wasn’t to happy but today I was craving gyros and eggs and I thought I would give it another try and WOW was I happy with the choice I made, sat down with my mom and saw the table top special GYRO&EGGS toast and hashbrowns… Drum roll please…$ 3.99, what? yes $ 3.99 and big portons, eggs(scrambled with cheese) were great, toast great, gyro meat great, hashbrowns ummm a little bland but that was OK I smothered everything with Greek red sauce, Oh yea, special is everyday from 6:30am to 11am, mom had eggs, ham, toast, potatoes and said it was«very good«will defiantly be returning. Oh yea, great service, clean restaurant.

I don’t get the raving reviews; got carry out from here twice with family — and I have to say, I was not that impressed. Exterior is a bit down at the luck in appearance, but I’ve eaten in lots of places where the food outperformed the décor. Inside is a classic formica diner table set up with a counter(I kept looking for John Belushi and Dan Ackroyd behind the counter; and a Pepsi sign)— The problem is, the food just wasn’t where it needed to be for my taste buds. Lamb, while tender, wasn’t flavorful; peas swam in a sea of something tomatoey; greek salad didn’t have the acidic pop to it that I was looking for— And along with another reviewer, I have the same, vague concerns about cleanliness— I could be entirely wrong; and because other people like to get carry out from here, I’m sure I’ll be headed back there — but not entirely willingly…
