History

Established in 1990.

St Charles Toyota moved to its current location in 1994 and is operated by the Alf family, comprised of a father and two sons. Dennis, Michael and Steven each live in the area and give a hands on approach to operating the dealership.

In 2008, St Charles Toyota expanded its current operation by updating and enlarging the facility. We increased space in both our Service and Sales departments. Our facility is open 6 days a week. M-​F from 6 am — 9 pm and Saturday from 8 am — 6 pm.

We offer two customer lounges as well as children’s play areas. Complimentary water and coffee are available as well as donuts or snacks throughout the day. Our restrooms feature changing stations for infants.

In September of 2012 a «Certified Pre-​Owned Center» was opened and is located ½ mile west of the New Car showroom. All of our pre-​driven cars are featured in this location and each vehicle is «Certified».

St Charles Toyota is family run.

Dennis Alf grew up in Berlin, Wisconsin on a dairy farm and married his high school sweetheart Mary. Upon graduating college he was a teacher and wresting coach before joining General Motors, spending 12 years at Pontiac. He left GM to work at a Toyota distributorship and in 1990 realized his dream of owning a dealership by purchasing Pontiac in St Charles. In 1994 he bought St Charles Toyota and in 2000 became sole owner of Toyota to create ownership opportunities for his sons.

Michael Alf, the older of two sons, grew up in various areas of the US before attending Ohio State University. Upon graduation Michael joined the family business and is currently the GM at Saint Charles Toyota.

Steven Alf attended high school in St Charles before going to the University of Wisconsin. In keeping the tradition started by Dennis and Michael, he also earned a college scholarship in wrestling. He is the GSM and helps run the business with his father and brother.

These guys have lots of technological gadgets but you have to talk to four people on the phone to get any answer from the service department. And that’s just to make an appointment. Then once you get there, they don’t know what you made the appointment for. You have to repeat the whole request. And they claim they will call you back once your car is ready but you have to continually call in. Then again you must speak to four people can’t tell you if your car is ready. This is not once. Every time!

While waiting for my car to get services I thought I would be giving this place 5 stars. They were very nice and quick when I brought my car in. Waiting area has free wifi, free coffee, and doughnuts.
Wait time was an hour, and they were pretty much on time. My problem was when the guy said my car was ready and I tried to ask for more information about what they had found. He was dismissive and appeared annoyed by my questions. I didn’t feel I got the answers I wanted. Other than this, good experience.

Very pleased with my purchase from St. Charles Toyota’s Certified Pre-​Owned Center in February and follow up service department experience yesterday. I can’t recall my sales person’s name but he was very helpful and we were in and out quite quickly for what I felt was a very nice price. My minivan came with a 3 month, 3000 mile power train warranty. It’s been having some intermittent transmission concerns with difficulty shifting into third so we brought it in to be checked out yesterday. They were not able to find the issue (of course, it wasn’t happening at the time of the appointment), however, they did check it over and addressed an issue not covered by warranty at no charge. To top off my surprise that I was not being charged anything, they even washed my car! Thank you to Kyle L. for making me feel like a valued customer, even though my purchase was not a brand new, expensive vehicle.

I can’t believe the poor way they treat customers. I bought a Certified 2012 Toyota Prius last week, and when I test-​drove it, it had new, plastic-​covered floor mats in it. The original mats were placed in the cargo area, and the way they were positioned, overlapping each other, they looked to be in perfect condition, too. When I picked up the vehicle two days later, they had replaced the new mats with the mats from the back, but there was a very large hole in the driver side mat. This hole was conspicuously hidden by overlapping the rear mat over the hole, so that I could not see it when test-​driving. If the salesperson had pointed it out on Tuesday, I could have gotten the nearly new mats out of the Prius I had just totaled. However, by Thursday, my wrecked car had been picked up. So now, I have to spend $ 130 for mats! I was also surprised to find the car only had ½ tank of fuel, as every pre-​owned vehicle I’ve bought from other dealers always came with a full tank. I talked with management, who didn’t seem to care about the situation, and just gave the excuse of a narrow profit margin for the poor service. I can’t believe that $ 8 of gas and their much-​lower price for a mat could possibly be a make-​or-​break situation for their profit margin, but it sure is enough for me to never, ever recommend this dealership to anyone.

Stay away!!!
I bought my 2010 camry v6 from this dealership as a certified like new with only 45k miles on it. I thought I would be safe knowing that if anything happens to my vehicle that they would take care of it. Boy was I wrong.
Shortly after purchasing the vehicle I have had weird transmission issues which are now getting worse. I had brought it in a few times and both times they tell me that they can’t recreate the problem. Listen im not making up hard shifts and slipping. Why would I waste my time and bring it in?! Then they tell me it’s because the drive by wire throttle. Really? It’s more or less that they don’t wanna fix it. It’s gotten to the point where I feel uncomfortable bringing it to be told nothing is wrong. Now I feel like I need to bring it to a transmission shop to have them confirm there is a transmission issue to then bring it back and let them know.
You buy a car with a certified warranty to protect against issues like this that may arise however st Charles Toyota would rather look the other way. What’s also extremely terrible is that the other week I brought my car in for my traction control light that won’t turn off. They called me and said when my remote start was installed that the cable came loose and that was the problem. So I asked them well does it need to just be plugged back in? They said well kinda. They said we can fix it for $ 108. What?! You wanna charge me to plug in a slightly loose cable? I’ll take it back to where I had my remote start installed and have them fix it. It took them literally 3 minutes! The place that installed it said they couldn’t believe they were going to charge me $ 100 to plug in something that takes 2 min. Take care of your customers and they will come back. They don’t care if you come back.
This is a service department that will definitely try to take advantage of you so beware. I wouldn’t buy from here or have your car serviced here. They will just try to take advantage of you and avoid all warranty work unless your transmission blows up!

After further thought and zero response by the dealer. I know now they don’t care that they tried to rip me off on a truck that didn’t belong on the shadiest of lots. let alone a Toyota dealership. Do not walk away from this dealership. RUN! just like my mechanic said! If I could give negative 5 stars it wouldn’t be enough.

Stay away from the Service Department. The short version of the story is I went in for an unrelated matter and was told my car was leaking oil. I asked how could this be? I do my own maintenance and park in a dry garage. I took the car home after refusing the nearly $ 300 repair quote. I crawled under the car and cleaned up the globs of oil that mysteriously appeared that day. Well its been a month and I drive 50 miles per day and not a drop of oil has materialized where they claimed it was leaking. I even had the car at firestone recently and they also confirmed no oil leaks. Make what you will of it.

Bad experience every time i go to the service center at this location. I bought a $ 31,000 car from here and when ever i go for service no professional is showed. There are couple of workers that seem to be talking in a respectable manner, but the rest just dont do their job properly…

Scheduled an appointment for Saturday at 9 AM to handle a repair covered by warranty, as we had purchased our car from St. Charles Toyota. It was an issue that St. Charles Toyota had tried to fix before, but still wasn’t repaired – so St. Charles Toyota had full record of what the problem was. Drove an hour (from the south part of Naperville) to get there.
Upon getting there, I was told that on Saturdays, there were no technicians qualified to service this warranty issue (that they already knew about, and that was described to them in detail again when making the appointment). I then drove another hour home, after spending 5 minutes in the dealership and having them not even look at the car.
They had the service records. We described the needed service in detail when we made the appointment. They didn’t service the car at all. Didn’t even try, and didn’t offer any way to make it easier for me to have this problem serviced when they actually might have qualified technicians available to look at it. Frustrating beyond belief. Their motto is «Exceeding Your Expectations” – but they certainly disappointed me – and they lost a customer today.
If you go there for service, beware. Even describing things to them in detail over the phone certainly doesn’t mean that they will actually be prepared to handle your issue. You may end up wasting a lot of time without actually getting your issue addressed. That’s what happened to me.

I drove out to St Charles Toyota after seeing advertised on their website that they have 12 units of the 2016 Avalon in stock.
I told the salesperson that I wanted to look at the XLE Premium. The salesperson said that they have none. I then asked to see an XLE Plus.
Nope. It turns out that they have zero 2016 Avalons.
Now, I can understand that a couple of cars might no longer be available because they got sold. Not so in this case. The salesperson acknowledged that they have yet to receive a single 2016 Avalon.
I thought that maybe I made a mistake and re-​checked the website. It shows 12 2016 Avalons in stock.
The salesperson did not seem particularly concerned. She proceeded to ask if I would like to be contacted when they have the cars are in stock.
Not a good way to earn customer trust. I plan to buy my car elsewhere.

This Toyota service department is horrible. First, the service department does not have the technician on duty to service my vehicle for a weekend appointment. Second, I have a warranty through Toyota and they would not honor the warranty because it was from a different Toyota dealership. Isn’t Toyota a company as a whole not a divided franchise?

We went up to St. Charles to check out the RAV4. They worked with us and gave us a great price. They are personable, easy to talk to, and willing to work with you. They want your business.

Went to go look at cars and get an idea of a price. After talking with a salesman, a higher-​up got involved and was very pushy. First, he wanted me to test drive the car, but I said I was planning on coming back the next week and I would test drive it then. However, he tells one of the guys to go get the car for me to test drive. So I agreed to even though I really did not want to that day. I was tired from work and again, I went there to only get the pricing. I had already told them that we just wanted to get the pricing and we were not going to buy that day. Kept pushing for it though. Then I realized I didn’t have my glasses which I need to drive (my dad drove me there). I let the guy know and he looks annoyed even though I said I didn’t want to test drive in the first place. And the guy wasn’t inviting at all in the first place. Didn’t smile or have any excitement in his voice.
Then he tells me listen, I’ve been selling these cars like crazy. I normally have three rows of them outside, but I only have one now because they’re selling fast. I can’t guarantee you that the car you want will be there next week so if you want, you can put in a deposit to secure that car. And I’m thinking bullsht. So I just told them we’d come back the next week. We didn’t. Found a better price and customer service at a different Toyota.

I went in to support my friend while she bought a truck. The salesman who confronted us barely spoke English and was rude. He did not listen to our concerns. He took my friends key and had us test drive the truck we were looking at. While we were gone, they opened her vehicle and they looked through it. Surprisingly, they had been told moments before that we did not feel comfortable with them doing this without us there. They agreed. When we came back, we saw two salesmen who were bouncing off the side of her vehicle. It was highly inappropriate and extremely rude.
I told the salesman that the rotors were extremely rusted. He pointed at a vehicle next to us, and he said, it happens to every new car. The vehicle that he compared this 2013 truck to was a 1998 ford. It was actually in better condition. I asked for a new salesman who knew what he was talking about.
We went inside and I explained the situation to the manager. The salesman called me a liar, saying I did no ask about warrantees and special things like that. The manager completely ignored my concerns and did not stop his employee from harassing me. He put his hand up in the air as I was speaking, and he said «that shit isn’t going to help anything»
I felt disrespected as a woman. They were sexist to both my friend and i. There was a male that was buying a car at the same time, and they were very helpful to him.
The salesman laughed at me and told me that «it’s all physics» behind the horribly rusted rotors, and he tried to tell me I was wrong. I am a chemist. I know how that works.
I am so dissapointed. Do not come here. They don’t know what they are doing and they are extremely disrespectful.

Be careful. My daughter just purchased her first auto from this dealer. Upon arriving home my wife and I reviewed the paperwork only to discover she was sold two very expensive warranty packages. The additional costs were almost a third of the price of the car! Well, we immediately called the dealer to complain and request that they reverse the fees, and rewrite the contract/​loan. Roger Miller was the manager I spoke with. Bottom line, after two days of phone tag my daughter was able to track Miller down, but rather than rewrite the deal, he had already sent in the paperwork, so my daughters payments wouldn’t change although they did credit the fees back. Still very disappointing as a young girl with limited income needs to keep her payments low — which we explained. Prospective car buyers, go somewhere else, please!
Just a quick but important update. The owner called my daughter and rewrote the contract. She’s happy, and the parents are happy. We appreciate the prompt attention and wish the manager would have been as attentive. Thank you!

We purchased a Highlander Limited from St. Charles this month. Bob Pearson and his sales manager (Israel) took care of us. The sale and transaction process was smooth — as most of the hard work was done over the phone. There were no games or tricky tactics. And at least in the case of Bob and Israel, we didn’t have to deal with sleazy salesly personalities. Bob personally helped to clean out my trade-​in vehicle as well as transfer my stickers and plates himself. Even after the sale, Bob answers emails quickly (I even received a quick response late on a Saturday night).
We now plan to purchase our next vehicle from St. Charles. If you decided the same, ask for Bob Pearson and Israel!

I came in Monday morning to look at the highlander xle. I live out in oak park so it was a nice drive out. I arrived at around 8:45, even though sales opened at 9. I asked to browse through their lot and within 2 minutes Derek R. came out and greeted me. I told him what I wanted. St. Charles toyota had the only nautical blue with ash interior and Captain chairs within a 75 mile of the great chicago area. I looked this information up from edmunds inventory. Of course I was gonna buy from them!
I used edmunds price promise and among 30 or so chicagoland dealers St. Charles had the 2nd lowest price! I took a screenshot of the lowest price (~$ 200 lower) and they easily agreed to match. Needless to say I am very ecstatic with my new vehicle as well as their customer service. Derek was very down to earth: they don’t pay commission here so he’s I am very ecstatic with my new vehicle as well as their customer service. Derek was very down to earth: they don’t pay commission here so was very upfront about everything. Rob the finance manager was a real gem too. Of the 5 dealerships I visited he was the most up front about the pricing. After almost all the negotiating when I was just about to head home with my new car he came and personally thanked me! I know who I’m recommending next time a buddy of mine wants to buy a car! From start to finish the experience only took 2.5 hours! Thanks St. Charles toyota!

Usual car buying experience despite their slogans. Spoke with Dan on the phone and was very impressed with him and the dealership. When we got to the dealership, our product specialist Dave was great, as well. Showed us the cars we wanted and wasn’t pushy.
When we got the offer for our trade in we weren’t happy with it. On the phone Dan said they’d show us our appraisal and the appraisal from a private third party and we’d get the highest offer of the two. At the table, they only showed us a number until we asked multiple times to see the actual appraisals.
When we told them what we saw on Edmunds then they were willing to show us the third party appraisal which was $ 1k+ more than they originally put on paper. We told them what we wanted for the car and they told us the numbers wouldn’t work, especially since we came in through Truecar. He’s «been doing this for 26 years» and the numbers don’t add up.
We went to Lombard and left with a car last night. They made the numbers work. Overall, great customer service and product specialists, but poor finance people.

St. Charles Toyota has a no-​hassle policy that means its sales people do not pressure you — at all — to buy a vehicle from them. The sales team does not work on commission, so they don’t swarm you like sharks the moment you walk through the door.
My husband and I first went into the dealer in February to see the new Highlander. Adrian spent nearly two hours with us, taking us through every detail of the vehicle, as well as a test drive. When we sat down to talk about features, he and the manager told us very honestly that there were some features, such as remote start, that should be added as after-​market options, as we would get a better deal. They also told us we should wait to buy the Highlander until after the Chicago Auto Show, as the price would likely come down. I was so amazed and appreciative that a car dealer would be so open with us! I was an immediate fan of St. Charles Toyota.
We ended up purchasing the 2015 model instead of the 2014, so we waited until October, when it was finally released. At no point did St. Charles Toyota contact us or pressure us to buy a different model. I wanted the vehicle in red, my husband wanted a panoramic moonroof — they made it happen.
I will admit that when we picked up the car, there was no fanfare. My husband was disappointed we didn’t get to ring a gong as we did when we bought our Honda from a Lisle dealership. I agree that it would have been nice if the sales staff had congratulated us on making such a great purchase, or told us that we were going to love the car, but instead, it was all business, with the exception of Adrian, who did speak to me just before we left and said he was so glad we chose to Highlander over the Hyundai Santa Fe (our other consideration), as he really did believe it was the better car. That was what we were looking for, but didn’t receive, from each of the gentlemen we spoke to, and what makes me give the dealership a four rather than a five.
That said, I am a big fan of Adrian. If you are in the market for a Toyota (great cars, by the way!), you should go to this dealership and ask for him!
