This place is GOOD; however, I am only giving them 2STARS because THESEAFOODCOMBO($ 15.95) WAS a bit of a RIPOFF! The combo states it has(Lobster, Crab, Shrimp, Scallops, and Veggies)…NO! More like gummy IMITATIONCRAB… Fair amount of shrimp.2−3 Scallops… and of course the incentive to ordering is the promised lobster, right… NO! Literally, HALF a LOBSTERTAIL!!! HALF… It was so scrunched up that my girlfriend and I were apprehensive prior to eating… Majority of the small plate, YESSMALL consists of veggies… it is literally veggies with a handful of mix seafood… NOTWORTH paying almost $ 16 for the dish! I would rather put my money towards a seafood buffet paying the same or a few dollars more than this price. …I agree with the comment below that it is a HIT or MISS… They are worth the money; but I highly suggest to NOTORDERTHESEAFOODCOMBO. Be very WARYOFSEAFOODDISHES… Small amounts…

It’s a hit or miss for some people. My opinion? I think it’s pretty good for the area and if I’m craving Chinese food. I’ve had the general tsos chicken and it has a great flavor and is very filling it’s balls of chicken. And I’ve also had the pepper steak which is good also I wish they had a combo plate for these two!

The food is actually really good, however ordering is a complete nightmare. The staff is ALWAYS so rude to my husband… every time… not sure why. He usually ends up passing the phone to me so I can give them our order. We eat here quite frequently, and there always seems to be a problem with our order, no matter how many times we repeat our order over the phone.

This place is good. No more no less. You get right in the food is great and service is efficient. No frills no hassle just straight up good. Kung Pow chicken has jalapeños which is a nice touch

I’ve gone here before food is normally really good, service is really good also. Today I brought my grandmother with me to lunch, we both ordered the sweet and sour chicken, wonton soup and sweet tea. In our sweet tea we found a huge bug along with 2 more in our soup. They have a big bug problem. Another customer there said they use to have a huge roach problem as well. I do not suggest you come here, especially after this experience.

So having lunch here has reminded me of a couple of things. I remember being hungover in college and wanting so desperately to have anything to eat the next day. Yes crappy fast food would have sufficed, but hell I thought to myself let’s raise the bar a half a scosh… well this restaurant reminded of that. Mediocre food with decent service. It’s like those cheap Chinese places around college campuses. Filling food, not anywhere near good quality. I also agree with other reviews on tasteless food. While others cite the wonton being that way, I cite the egg drop soup as being the worst offender. Lumpy tasteless soup. I love salt but I’ve NEVER put soy sauce in my egg drop soup. Well, I broke that friggin rule while eating here. Service was good. No soda machines either so don’t order coke, you’ll get a can. As a soda lover, I hate that. My girl got orange chicken which was good and I got chicken lo mein. Cheap filing but honestly, only ok food. The best thing about this place was the egg rolls. However not enough for me to give it anything other than 3 stars. If you’re hungover and want a good portion of cheap food, go to waffle house. If that’s closed, try here… good luck

The only reason I ever go here is because my mom really loves this place and I just don’t see why. Service is okay, no complaints there, but the food is seriously hit or miss! Don’t order the wonton soup because they’ll only give you one measly little wonton in a cup. Portion sizes here are RIDICULOUSLYHUGE so if you order something and don’t like it you’re screwed. They use those thick spaghetti noodles for all their noodle dishes. I tried many different dishes here and so far the only one I’ve liked was the green pepper chicken. Their sweet and sour sauce is also really good, surprisingly.

Not sure who recommended the wonton soup but no. Never tasted something so plain and bla!!! This is after doctoring it up. Theres not enough words to describe my experience. Was so looking forward to wonton soup with thin rice noodles thats seems like spaghetti noodles.

We have gotten take out from here periodically for several years and we have always been pleased — until tonight. We ordered egg rolls and mu shu pork as we usually do plus we tried hot mandarin chicken which was described as crispy breaded breast meat. Frankly, the mu shu was horrible, just cabbage, egg, and pork in an unbelievable pile of mush. It had neither flavor or texture. We ended up throwing it out as it was pretty much inedible. The hot crispy chicken was neither hot nor crispy. It, too, was basically mush as the breading just fell off the meat when lifted from the container. Even the egg rolls were off of their usual consistency. I don’t know if there is a new chef or owner or what. We just feel like we wasted $ 20 and we will find another take out place from now on.

Good food… Terrible service… If there is more than 5 people there do not waste your time. You will be waiting forever.

Food was okay, service was horrible. I decided to go with my boyfriend since he likes it there and I hadn’t gone in years but used to take out from there. There’s only one waiter there– this bitchy Asian lady… one of the rudest waiters I’ve ever gotten. She hesitated when I asked her to put less ice in my water cause I had a cold. While waiting on our soups, a customer was complaining to the cashier lady about how rude and inconsiderate they were and I actually had some sympathy for them… until later. For our soups, my bf seemed to get a generous portion but I got wonton soup with only ONE wonton. Wtf? When she brought out our food I asked her for extra napkins cause they only give you one and she rolled her eyes and took off. The food wasn’t as good as I remembered it. :(While we ate, another family came in and when ordering they asked what she’d recommend off the menu and she remarked«I just told you, everything’s good!» And towards the end of our meal she came and offered/poured my bf some water and didn’t offer me squat! Needless to say she got no tip from us and I won’t be going back in another very long time. I don’t see how my bf liked that place so much, but he too will be staying away after the way the waiter treated me. I’ll still give them 2 stars for the food though.

Delicious pan fried noodle with beef and Chinese broccoli. Family run business that still offers friendly service and good food.

Really great Won Ton Soup. and the service is super quick. quick to the point of i’m not sure if I wanna know exactly how the kitchen works back there. lol(j/k a little) Staff is always very friendly and all of the food is quite good. One thing I can definitely say about Hoi Yin is they are pretty consistent. I come here from time to time because I know what I’m going to get and I know what to expect when I get it. whether call ahead drive thru or dining in. I will say I ordered a very large order once from them and the Fried Rice we ordered was really OFF. other than that I like em. I will also remain a customer

Great food, quick and friendly service, quiet and clean — we enjoyed our lunch! The restaurant is small but always full — they also have a drive through(we use that sometimes too). This is a quaint little local Chinese food restaurant that is a great place to have a casual lunch and/or dinner.

I wanted to like this place. I really did. Unfortunately it ended up being the worst I’ve had. I had one bite if everything & was done. Everything tasted like chemicals more than it did the food. Even the egg roll was gross. My husbands pepper steak was so bad I couldn’t even swallow it. I think it’s safe to say that we will not be back.

Ok. Ok. I’m normally against stateside American Chinese food. But this place was not bad at all. Let me cover the good points 1st. The minute my group of 5 walked in we were swept into seating and had all our drinks in 5 minutes. We asked the folks for some authentic dishes. They snickered at us and told if they had certain of the dishes we requested it would scare if there American customers and they would have to shutdown. But they directed us to all the Chinatown places in Houston that would serve these specialty dishes. Let’s get back on track. They made an awesome eggfoo young. It was delicious. Not cakey or gooey. The Chinese eggplant was good also. U Gota like eggplant to like this dish. Anyway no more time to finish this review. So this place gets a 3 just because I wanted Chinese food and got Amerinese food. But don’t sell them short it was flavorful.

I seldom dine in, but when I do the service is fair. Staff is always nice but almost always busy. They are always busy during lunch time and dinner but are open for to-go orders later which Is nice. I typically order to go, and almost always call ahead; when I do call they say it will be ready in 15 – 20 minutes and usually by the time I arrive it’s already ready and waiting for me(I’m about 15 minutes away). Portions are pleasantly generous, especially for the price. Normally I order one of the combos and can make 3 meals out of it. Also I ask for some dishes to be made«extra spicy» and they’re generally good at following through. Only one disappointment, their fried rice is bland and dry every time I’ve ordered it. So I just ask for steamed rice instead and problem solved. Not a fan of the soy sauce packets they provide either, but I have my own soy sauce at home and use it whenever needed. Will change review to 5 stars if they can resolve the fried rice issue.

Go to place for some good Chinese food in spring. Great portions always fast and hot. Great prices too. They’re very friendly and always remember me. I’ve tried most around the area and this is definitely the best. Nice good chunks of white chicken, fried to perfection. Pepper steak has great flavor and not too saucy like most Chinese restaurants like to do. The hot and sour soup is the best! So are the wings.
