The Young Actors’ Theatre teaches students about creative group dynamics and helping each individual child grow and play at their own pace. Outgoing children find a place to strut their stuff. Shy children find a comfortable, nurturing place to build their confidence and self-esteem!
Students here at the theatre learn fundamentals of musical theatre – singing, dancing, and acting, as well as training on microphone use, costumes and much more in a working theater environment.
History
Established in 2004.
It has been over twelve years since Young Actors’ Theatre was founded as a non-profit organization. Since that time, we have produced nearly 60 different productions serving over a 1,000 students throughout San Diego.
We have produced musicals all over San Diego County including Sherwood Auditorium in La Jolla, Lyceum Theatre, Kroc Theatre and Cuyamaca Theater at Cuyamaca College. In 2008, we acquired our own theater and have produced the majority of our productions there since then. With support from our community, patrons and donors, our company has grown tremendously, allowing us to provide life-changing theater experiences for hundreds of youth and students ages 6 — 26.
We also offer singing classes, acting classes and dance classes, private singing, acting and dance classes along with various theatre camps during school breaks at very affordable rates!
Meet the Business Owner
Jean I.
Business Owner
Jean has been working with kids and theater for nearly 25 years. After growing up in a youth theater that was a major part of her extra curricular activities, Jean felt the need to get her own children involved in theater. What started as a desire to present a school play through the PTA at her kids’ elementary school soon evolved into a regular program offering after school drama classes. Shortly thereafter, Tour Groups were formed, productions were presented and Young Actors’ Theatre was born. Subsequently, a board of directors was formed and a non-profit organization was founded. Our philosophy at Young Actors’ Theatre is that every student deserves a chance to be on stage. Many of our students have gone on to pursue college degrees in theatre and some are even working professionally. «It is a constant source of pride when students come home from college and tell me how much of a different Young Actors’ Theatre has made in their life.»
