Though we only had time to stay for one night, we decidedly agreed to come back as soon as we can.

If you’re looking for a modern place to stay, keep on looking. If you’re into rustic, charming quaint places, come on in.
We had an absolute fabulous time at the Moorings. Our stay in Northern Lights was fantastic. A tad small, but it didn’t matter, we spent most of our time on the deck of our room, or around the lovely bonfire pit.
The staff was so helpful if we ever needed anything. We even heard another guest complementing one of the staff about how helpful she was when the guests husband had a reaction to some crab he ate. It was nice to know everyone was receiving the same friendly service.
I loved that this place was close enough to Bar Harbor, but let us be far away from the hustle and bustle of the tourists.
I guess if I had to change anything, it would be the breakfast. The same thing everyday for 7 days was a bit much. They did change out the flavors of the breads/​cakes though. Regular pound cake, Blueberry, there was a spice cake one day. Hard boiled eggs, cheese and salami for proteins. They also had cereal and bagels available. Maybe having a waffle maker or a griddle available would be nice.
Although, if breakfast is the only thing I have to complain about, it really doesn’t matter does it?
Definitely going to make it back one day!

Peaceful setting on the water. Great grounds, lobster pot propane setup and grills, plenty of outdoor seating. Very nice sitting rooms with a view of the water. Each room has a deck. King bed was great! Tight spaces for sink and coffee, but who cares! My wife had a publication that advertised bicycles and kayaks, but they no longer have these.

This place was such a treat! After 2 nights of camping in the rain, I was in desperate need of a quiet comfy bed and a shower. The friendly staff at the Moorings Inn let us check in early and even gave us a little info on the area.
We stayed in The Island Queen room, which opens right onto a small patio with a picture perfect view of Southwest Harbor/​Cadalac Mountain. The room itself was clean and cozy with a very comfortable bed. The lawn surrounding the Inn overlooks the harbor and is set up with a few chairs and tables, and a barbeque and fire pit for use. There was a small breakfast of pastries and muffins in the main part of the inn… nothing spectacular but it was more convenient than finding a place in town.
The Moorings made our trip to Mount Desert Island extra special. I was sad to leave after two great days but I’m already looking forward to my next trip!

I just came back from an excellent trip to Mt. Desert Island and I must say that staying at The Moorings Inn was one of the highlights. The rooms were super clean and cozy and the staff were some of the friendliest bunch on the island. As soon as we checked in we were given a tour of the place and told about some of the best places around the island to visit.
The main perk of staying here is that it’s on the «quiet side» of the island and the views from the backyard are absolutely amazing. Picture having your morning coffee with a panoramic view of the Southwest Harbor. The location is perfect and convenient to Acadia and Bar Harbor. Oh, it was also very nice to have a plush, comfy bed after camping out for 2 nights in constant rain.
My only recommendation to make this place better would be to change the coffee situation. I found the coffee offered at the continental breakfast to be way too weak and watery. Strong, bold coffee = happy guests. I’m sure this is something that can be fixed with little effort.
We’ll likely be back at some point and will recommend The Moorings Inn to our friends.

Turndown service? Fritte linens? Gourmet breakfast? NO NO NO. If you seek European hospitality and the like this isn’t the place for you.
Think camping on the water, salt air in your eyes, fire pit with sailboats all around, screened porches, and only the sound of the wind in the trees, seabirds, and masts rattling about.
I had expectations set right from the start and although I hoped for AC in our cabin after a day in the 90s as it absolutely wasn’t needed to lower body temps. The cool breeze off the water and quiet nights kept all discomfort at bay and after a day or two I didn’t think it was a requirement again — suspect few locations in Maine use AC anyway!
Trust me, the beds, pillows, and shower facilities are very Americana basic so one must be prepared to eat Cheerios and realize that the owners aren’t showing pride in the B&B experience. If you can transcend those most luxurious needs and appreciate what comes with NO TOURISTS in your face at every turn then this is the place for you.

I splurged on two nights at the Moorings Inn last week for our visit to the Bar Harbor area. The Friendship room, was a cute, breezy white room with ocean views, on the website.
But when we arrived, the room was nothing like pictured– other than the ocean view. Gone is the breezy white bedding, replaced with an uncoordinated rust and gold bedding set and a tacky nautical wallpaper border edges only two of the four walls in the room. A little settee and side table and coffee table are squeezed into the room, and the one dresser is topped with a huge model ship so that there are no empty flat surfaces to put any of your stuff on.
Decorating is great, except when you make it impossible for guests to use the room.
Even worse, the bed was so rickety that we slept horribly. Any time either of us moved the littlest bit in our sleep, the entire bed rocked to and fro like a ship in stormy seas. It felt like it was going to fall apart at any moment.
The shower in the ok bathroom would change temperature randomly, so that was unpleasant.
«Breakfast» was a few sad pastries, a box of cheerios, and some bad coffee.
The common areas of the Inn were cluttered with antiques and other stuff. They were ok, but certainly not attractive.
The whole place reminded us of a cluttered grandma’s house, not a classy Inn on the Maine coast. We would never, ever stay there again. And certainly not for almost $ 200 a night.

My partner and I stayed her for the first time this past weekend and we’ve already planned to return in July and next October.
The Moorings is charming, comfortable, quiet, clean, and the back yard and pier overlooking the bay is lovely. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Prices are very reasonable.
We really enjoyed our saty and are looking forward to returning.

Very nautical Inn with use of canoes and kayaks. The view is suberb. Our room was «friendship» and although very small was charming with great view. If you want a lot of privacy this would not be the room for you since it is wall to wall windows.
Inn Keepers were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was Ok. Basically pastry, juice and coffee. We loved the extra touches like plenty of outside chairs and a firepit.
We would stay here again. Our room was $ 150 which was reasonable for end of labor day season.

The place is totally charming. It’s gay friendly and I didn’t feel uncomfortable being the only P.O.C. for miles.
The room was very comfortable and beautiful. Our bed literally looked out over the bay. There were quaint seating areas in the living and dining room and we also sat outside near the private rocky beach a few times. There is a grill, bikes, canoes, games and more.
The Inn was packed and we really didn’t run in to many of the folks which was great for us. At night someone did light the fire pit and a few folks gathered.
This place is great for family, friends, couples and probably throws a great wedding.
Value is 4. Staff is 5. Cleanliness is 4.
Note, the place is older so there are a few cracks and they add to the charm. We were also sent to Thurston’s for dinner and that was fabulous!
