The Beach Retreat and Lodge

We had a sweet time staying here. Dog friendly for a reasonable price. The staff was awesome and all the other guests were friendly. It was like we were all one big family. The resort is on the beach so if you have your own paddle boards or kayaks, you can walk them from your room straight to the water. We were unable to enjoy our boards because of strong winds, but that did not stop us from having fun. There’s a tiki bar, pier restaurant, and another restaurant in the resort. All for the guests! Our room was clean and had a mini fridge. The bathroom needs updating, but honestly, who’s in there bathroom for more than showers and ??? I cannot complain one bit about this place. An über or taxi ride to the casinos is around $ 12 (Use über). The resort is centrally located to other spectacular places Tahoe has to offer for the nature enthusiast. CVS, Safeway, and other restaurants are walking distance. The ground floor doggy room has a rear slider so you can walk your doggy straight to the grass. I know my review is all over the place, but I want to make sure I jot down everything before I forget! I hope you’re stay will be as awesome as ours!

I stayed here with my boyfriend during our one night in Lake Tahoe. For us, the hotel was at a great location because it was within walking distance of two breweries. The room was clean and had everything we needed. It was nice going for a long walk on the beach. It was a little more expensive than what we’re used to, but I would love to go back.

Shitty customer service ! Jermey is the worst shift supervisor. As we were in the phone my word exactly «so if I wasn’t to call I wouldn’t have got my refund» him «yes but you did» my card was charged 117 $ without my consent or notice ! And if I didn’t call I wouldn’t have got my refund. Thank goodness I check my
Statements. This is the shittiest place the waters low so the pier has no view. The rooms are small and smell like mildew and the customer service sucks

Just got back from an amazing stay here from a girls trip. The room was clean. The staff were incredibly friendly. There were staff constantly cleaning and maintaining the grounds. The restaurant inside the hotel had great food. I loved that we were right on the beach. There are only a few little gripes. The beds were full sized (just a tad too small). There are no refrigerators or microwaves in the rooms. I can’t wait to come back with my family though. I’m already planning our next stay

Mine and my husbands favorite weekend getaway. Stayed here several times. He proposed on the pier in 2014. Rooms and grounds always well maintained. We spend most of our time in the hammock; when it’s cold, we bring the pillows and comforter down with us!

We stopped at this lovely spot and we and our dog loved it. Convenient if you have a dog and we have a big one! The rooms were clean and the grounds were nice to relax around outside with a fire pit and access to the lake. Our room had a beautiful view!
I only have one complaint, but it’s a big one-​we were in the jacuzzi and we had to quickly evacuate it when a big chunk of what truly looked like ejaculate floated by. So gross… not sure if it’s a cleanly thing with the hotel or we just happened to get in after some inconsiderate people-​either way I can’t give the five stars I would’ve given. I would still stay here again for sure though!

Update: After numerous phone calls to the bank and hotel, I received my money back. Front desk manager said there was nothing she could do on her end to release our money and it depended on the bank, the bank said she was full of it (ok maybe they didn’t use those words). But the bank needed the manager to fax them a letter to release my money and when i called she said she would do it right away. When I called the next day, the bank told me she never faxed them. Very unprofessional and I hope the owner knows how she is treating customers and not doing her job. We still did not receive our $ 35 over draft fee and hotel refuses to pay it. Worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life

Dog friendly hotel.
That was the main focus for me. I was disappointed that we couldn’t get a room with a view of the lake because we had our dog with us, but I guess you can understand that given that your pet can ruin things or poop everywhere. I understand. Either way, it was a nice short getaway for us. I liked that there was a fireplace for us, and a nice big tv. It was small, but I don’t really mind small.
My only reason why I didn’t give more stars was the staff service. I felt like they could have been more thorough when I was checking in. about where the hot tub was, and the two restaurants. etc. At least the other person was thorough with his guest, my staff member was not so. informing about the amenities there. Also, they don’t do small amenity bags if you’re celebrating something small. but then again. I work at a hotel in Napa and maybe i’m just used to our staff having amenity bags for every occasion. Or at least. providing one somehow if a guest mentions something about a celebration.
BUT, whatever. It was a nice stay. Decent. I would come back, but I would look at other places first, if you get me.

We booked 2 nights stay with the pet package (2 nights min). Comes with a $ 30 daily breakfast credit (à la carte) to the Tavern, located on-​site.
Beach is just at your doorstep. They even have a nice boardwalk & a restaurant at the pier.
There are a few hammocks right at the beach where you can relax!
This is not a private beach though.
Our stay was good. All of their pet friendly rooms are all located on the ground floor. You can just slide the balcony door & you have access to grass outside. Our room had view of the pool, Jacuzzi & the Lake. Rooms are compact. We felt it is too less for the price we paid. The bedding was cozy & soft. There is a gas fireplace in the room.
We would go back in summer!

We got the hotel deal from Travelzoo. And from the pictures it looked really beautiful. But when we reached there it was exactly as described besides they didn’t have the red pillows which was shown in the pictures. And we got the beach access which was nice.
The room was nice and big enough for two adults and one baby. I wish it was a little bigger.. I didn’t like the parking because they were very small space for big SUV. And the place where we parked, it was hard to back out and see the on-​coming traffic. But I loved the view from our bedroom windows which was priceless.
And I didn’t like the hotel restaurants. Their service was horrible. But I would recommend the hotel to anyone who wants to stay here. And they have hammock on the beach too.

Not worth one star. Rooms are paper thin, you could hear conversations from the people next door. Hotel is dirty. Towels smelled like ass. Shower never got hot. You can hear people walking above you all night long. Never will stay here again

Awesome hotel, my whole family loved the hotel and the beach. What more can you ask for… we’ve had the view of the ocean. the kids can just walk down the stairs and they have a place to run around and be free. I wish they had free breakfast, but otherwise that’s they have everything that I could ask for. food, laundry (only a mom would do laundry while on vacation, something I did) awesome shower (that my husband swears it’s the best shower he ever took), beach, view, pool and hot tub and it is across the street from Safeway… it’s not far from heavenly and other snow parks. But if u don’t want to pay for a snow park, try going to bloody mountain, it’s free parking as well. However parking is a lil difficult when u go late. So go early in the am…

I called the front desk on ²⁄₁₉ at 11 pm because shower wasn’t working. Right, shower has no water at all. The front desk says they have 3 types of showers as this was normal. I told her that something is not right that someone has to come and «show» us how to use the shower. Shockingly, she disagreed. I further said if front desk gets so many calls about shower, isn’t something wrong? She said sounds like I don’t want the service and nothing she can do.
I told her that I will post this incident about her attitude on Unilocal and Expedia. And she proudly said «go ahead».
To the Owner of this facility, you should know how your staff interacts with guests and how she is ruining your business.

Cute place! Beds were comfy, room was spacious. I wish they had a microwave and mini fridge (had to keep drinks cool in the snow). Other than that, I would definitely come back in the summer.

Nice clean room with fireplace. Beautiful view of Lake Tahoe from our room. I liked that the hotel is doing its’ part to be green by using large pump containers for shampoo, soaps and conditioner instead of all those mini bottles. The Tavern Restaurant had a good breakfast. We liked the Coconut/​cornflake French Toast. The Vanilla Infused pancakes and eggs were good too. The portions were on the larger size.

Came here to celebrate me and my girl’s 3^rd anniversary. We didn’t arrive until my 11pm Saturday night and we felt welcomed as soon as we walked through doors. We stayed in room A309, which is a King Size room with a view of the pool, jacuzzi, and lake off in the distance.
As usual, I flipped the bed upside down, looked under the bed/​behind the bed, and checked everywhere possible; no bug in sight. Everything about the room was clean and well put together. The HDTV, Keurig, fireplace, and balcony were perfect for us. The only con of the room was the little refrigerator that smelled a little. We didn’t use it because we brought a cooler anyway.
We ate down in the Tavern, but because the prices were definitely overpriced, we got he cheapest items on the menu and just watched the football game.
Overall, we would definitely come back to this lodge and make sure I get the Lakeview for sure.

Came across a package online when searching for a place to stay and ski combo.
The lodge offered a deal online that was a «stay 2 nights, and ski for free deal» where they would give you two passes to the heavenly ski resort. The package began at $ 199 online. Depending on which days you go, the rate would fluctuate either higher or lower. (Weekdays would be fairly cheaper to stay compared to the weekend)
We called and booked our reservation for a Thursday and Friday the second week of January.
When we arrived which was about 5pm on Thursday, we were greeted by a very nice girl working the front (can’t remember her name at the moment) and checked us in.
We got our key cards and walked over to our room which was a standard king with balcony on the third floor.
It was a cozy little set up perfect for two people. King sized bed, flat screen tv, and fireplace with a separate heater.
The sliding glass door to the balcony worked perfect and allowed you access to the space outside complete with two chairs.
We had some trouble lighting the fireplace in the room and called the front desk.
Maintenance arrived very quickly and was able to remedy the problem in about 15 minutes.
The rest of the stay was great, had no problems with the temperature or anything else in the room.
The lodge is conveniently located a grocery store across the way called «Safeway» which is open 24 hours for all your needs.
The lodge is also only about a mile away from the heavenly ski resort.
We suggest checking out Rock House Ski Rental for your rental needs. Ask for Robert, he was great.
If you decide to take your car to the heavenly ski resort gondola area, you can park in the parking garage of the Harvey’s hotel near by and just a short walk to the entrance.
Overall would stay here at the lodge again. Great place, convenient, and overall awesome customer satisfaction !

We stayed here for 2 nights and dont get me wrong this lodge is nice and next to the lake… on our last night here someone break inside our car and it was so scary good thing there was no money in there but the expensive cologne i got for my husband all phone chargers important document the bastard took it all… i am so dissappointed. i dont know why they dont have camera all over the place so they see wats goin on at night. and they said they have Security gguard but shiii where the hell was he when someone was breakin in our car. im sorry but never comin back here again. Im hoping it wont happen again to anybody thats stayin here in this lodge.

I’ve seen a lot of hotel impossible shows so whenever I do find myself in a hotel room usually I know what to look for. My first stop was the room it’s self, very clean and cozy. The next stop was the bathroom, not the cleanest in the world but the shower was mostly the dirtiest stop, kinda moldy and grimy. But that was just on the outside of the shower door. The inside was nice and clean except for the soap and conditioner and shampoo, that looked like it hadn’t been touched in over 2 years. The room was nice other wise, very updated. Great view of the lake. But one thing that stuck out like a sore thumb was the bed. It was as hard as a rock I’m actually sure that if I slept on the floor or in my car I would have gotten a better nights sleep then on this bed. Literally woke up with my chest hurting and my back and hips cramped and sore. Worse bed ever! And when I told the front desk after our stay all they said was «sorry» nothing else. Just a sorry! I will never stay here ever again. Even for the price it was I will find some place else to stay. The room was very small and what it said online about the amenities is defiantly not what was true. Wouldn’t recommend to stay here even to an enemy.

I love this hotel we always stay here when we come to Tahoe. This is our 4^th stay here I believe. They’re always so wonderful and the rooms are clean. They’re pretty basic rooms but with a fireplace. They’re not fancy or anything but they’re pretty comfy to me. My dog also loved it here. Dog friendly rooms are bottom floor standard room only so I’m sure they have some with more amenities available. They also have sliding doors which makes it really convenient to take the dog out. Thanks so much for another wonderful visit!

I had to stay here in a pinch and was pleasantly surprised. It’s dog friendly so that was a huge plus. Room was cozy, nicely decorated, great bedding (nice duvet & sheets) & a fireplace that heated room up nicely. I was on the ground floor so I had a sliding door out to the snow — easy for dog to go out & fun to have snow right there.
Room was very clean, it had a little fridge & nice TV.
Oddly enough the best part was the service Katie & housekeeping staff provided when I mistakenly left my expensive down pillow after we checked out. For those of you who have to travel with their own pillows due to neck issues you know how much this means. I went back the following day and they really put the extra effort into finding it for me. Originally they had trouble finding it and were ready to reimburse me (it’s a $ 125 pillow) but in the end it was located & off I went a happy guest.
I would definitely stay here again. Cozy, dog friendly & helpful staff. Can’t beat that!

We arrived very late and tired as we had been driving through the night! We received a warm welcome, a warm room and a very comfortable stay at a great price! We had a nice cup of coffee at the bar in the morning, and I was sad to leave so soon!

I really want to give 4.5 stars, & take off half only because the room has no fridge/​microwave… Since we were visiting in snow, a fridge wasn’t necessary as we put milk for the kids right into the snow! Other than that, this place is everything ! Fun & Nicely decorated, Beds– super comfy and warm. Bathroom is small & cozy, there was 1 spider chillin in the shower …(but he’s not alive anymore) every other aspect was very clean. Ample Starbucks coffee stocked in room. The cleaning crew was nice as well — our 2 kids made the floor a cheerio/​cracker mess & they were great about it. The hotel had decorated for Christmas and had Christmas events going on, including a visit from Santa and cookie decorating, hot cocoa etc. really nice touch —-*GET THE FIRST FLOOR!!! *The view & ability to go right into the backyard/​snow from the sliding glass door was amazing, convenient & beautiful. Can’t wait to go back in the summer & enjoy the beach & sand that same way!

This lodge was extremely cozy and it had the nicest view! We had to book it here last minute since there was a problem with our cabin. This lodge is located on a pier and it has the best view of the beach. My room was on the top floor so i had a overview of everything. It had so many pretty Christmas decorations and a lot of parking space!
Although I really loved this lodge, the rooms did not have a fridge or a microwave. That was a bit uncomfortable but everything was great!

I booked this hotel for my wedding weekend, I picked this hotel because they have great prices and they’re right on the beach. Once we arrived, I was in love with the big fireplace in the room, the big tv and the fantastic views! It is a very cozy hotel and I would definitely stay there again!

The main reason I’m giving this hotel is because of the service. The gentleman at the front desk, Jeremy, went above and beyond to make sure we were happy and comfortable. The rooms are small but nicely done and our room has a great view of the lake. The bartenders are attentive and great and the food was really good.

So upset with this place they charged my card without my consent. He said there was a 50 $ hold which I understand but he never told me
He was going to charge me 117 $ he slid my card anyways. When I found out they told me it was a hold and will be put back. 3 days later I found out that it was taken out and I called and they told me that someone had charged me for a room that I prepaid for already. They told me they would refund me that money. 3days the money still isn’t in my account mind you I didn’t even have they money in account and now It’s over drafted. Asked to talk to a supervisor in charged they told me no one was there and that I would get a call back and I waited a day and they never called me.

Very convenient location. Less than 2 miles to the casinos and Heavenly in one direction, plenty of restaurants nearby in the other. Staff was friendly and the room was clean. The beach (which turned out to be much closer than we thought since our room did not have a lake view) was nice and quiet. The outdoor fire pits were a nice and cozy touch, even though we didn’t make it over to enjoy them.
Cons: despite getting tips from hotel staff twice, the fireplace refused to turn on (minor con). Thin walls (could hear every step of the room above us). Parking lot was small and had lots of dead ends.

I stayed here for the weekend. The rooms are actually very nice and clean. The service is great. The one thing that I didn’t like was the outside hallways and stairs which are carpeted and very narrow. The outside carpets look very old and stained. The actual rooms are actually pretty great, clean and luxurious for the price. I would definitely stay there again.

Booked 2 nights based on all the positive reviews on here. What a disappointment! We ended up leaving after the first night.
If you have kids — STAY AWAY!!!
We got to stay on the ground floor with lake view, great so far. Right? Wrong!
(1) The room door was disgustingly dirty.
(2) The setting of the room was ok. But the mattress and pillows were awful. Even my 2 year old couldn’t sleep comfortably.
(3) The Duvet and one pillow case had blood stains on them.
(4) The parking area in this «resort» is NOT private. Anyone can go park there and access the same beach that you will access. This means you will get a TON of junkies hanging out by you.
(5) People were smoking and drinking from GLASS bottles ON the beach. There were cigarette buds all over the beach.
(6) My husband found THREE PIECES OF BROKEN GLASS on the beach just behind our 2 year old daughter’s foot!!!
(7) There is a very clear sign ON the beach that says dogs are NOT allowed on the beach. Guess what? There were dogs everywhere and no one enforced the rules. How do I know my child isn’t playing with sand that’s been pissed and/​or pooped on?
(8) When we checked out the receptionist realized we were leaving early and didn’t even ask if everything was ok. We didn’t want to talk to anyone there, we just wanted to get the hell out of there.
The following day I called the manager Jeremy and explained the situation. He was very understanding and apologized for the inconvenience. He even offered a refund for the night we decided to skip.
Either way, I’d much rather spend more money at a nicer hotel than risk having my kid getting cut or sick.

Great hotel, right on the lake with a big beach area. Steps away from the pier where you can rent jet skis, kayaks, and other items, have a nice meal, or just go for a stroll. The property has a pool and hot tub and on weekend nights they showed family movies on a big screen outside! There is also a fire pit where families gathered and made s’mores and enjoyed cocktails & conversation fireside. On the beach they have lounges and cabanas you can rent and free use of beach towels. And they have a tiki bar! You can sit at the bar and enjoy a drink while enjoying the view or you can relax on your chair/​lounge on the beach and a waiter/​waitress will bring you drinks. There are also two restaurants on site, with the restaurant/​bar in the main lobby having 12 tvs and rustic tables giving it a sports bar vibe.
Next door to this property is a CVS, several small restaurants and a dry cleaners. Across the street is a Safeway with a Starbucks inside, more eateries, a place to get a massage and a few other shops.
More about the hotel — the rooms are a bit small, but with a lovely fireplace and our balcony looking onto the lake, we didn’t mind one bit. Starbucks in room coffee was a nice touch and free wifi was a nice amenity too. Large screen tv and a very comfy bed made for great lazy mornings. I’m a big fan of the body wash, shampoo, and conditioner in pump dispensers in the shower, and soap and lotion similarly by the sink. Quality products and much less packaging waste.
The hotel has a large white tent set up near the beach for parties/​events. We were there for a company weekend getaway/​celebration of 40 years of business and used the tent for a dinner. The food catering (provided by the hotel) was very good with seafood kebabs, lobster tail, chicken and more cooked on a huge smoker/​grill at the site. Salads and sides were fresh and tasty and the dessert table complete with a chocolate fountain and dipping treats was a huge hit. The catering staff did a fantastic job all the way around, from set up to clean up.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a quiet, clean and comfy family and pet friendly Tahoe vacation.

The hotel is swanky! Our room is facing the lake and the boathouse restaurant.
The price is reasonable and the hotel room we have is cute.
The location is great as well.
I wish the pool is a bit warmer, it’s heated but they don’t cover it at night so it gets cold. The hot tub is small but nice and I like the exercise room even thou it’s small the treadmill is all I need.
We will be back on summer and this place will be packed and we’ll book out room early.
Overall it’s a great hotel!

I guess I could say, I was pleasantly surprise with Beach Retreat and Lodge. I mean is not your high end hotel but it is very nice and there are a lot of positives to this place. For the money, we paid a total of $ 135 through
for a Saturday stay we felt it was very decent. Here are some highlights
1. Location, location, location! This place is right on the lake. You have views of the lake from a lot of the rooms. You are also just steps away and can walk right up to the lake. (How many times can I write lake?). Not too mention your close to Heavenly ski resorts and the downtown area from S. Lake Tahoe shops, restaurants casinos!
2. The rooms are also really decent. Nice fireplace in the room and an outside balcony.
3. The fire-​pits and Tavern Bar! Nice little bar in the lobby with drinks and food. You don’t even have to go anywhere. We set and ordered some drinks and appetizers which were really yummy plus it was Happy Hour. Took the drinks and continued to relax outside near the fire pits.
Overall we had a good stay and most definitely will consider staying at Beach Retreat and Lodge when we visit S. Lake Tahoe again.
