Alder Inn

I recently stayed at the Alder Inn and loved it. The location is great! Both the lake and the ski basin are within walking distance although I hear there is a convenient bus for the ski basin when you have all your gear. The owners who were at the front desk were so friendly and helpful. My room was very comfortable and clean. It was a nice surprise to find some candy and a granola bar on my bed when I arrived. I also appreciated the Keurig machine in the room. There is also a small refrigerator if you need it. I look forward to going back!

Great family owned Inn off the beaten path yet close to all the wonderful amenities South Lake Tahoe has to offer. First impressions say it all and continue throughout your stay. Rooms are very clean and have many little personal touches to make your stay as comfortable as possible. I will definitely return upon my next visit from Florida

My husband and I recently stayed at the Alder Inn for 3 nights and we truly loved our stay.
The owners Michael and Laura were very nice and welcoming. They are also very knowledgeable of the area. They gave us great advice on what to do, where to eat… We followed their recommendation and we were extremely happy!
The hotel has been nicely renovated. The rooms were nice, big and clean. We loved the bed. The mattress was very comfy.
We have a baby and the owner immediately offered to lend us a Pack&Play (at no charge) so our baby could sleep comfortably.
The location of the hotel is great: it is at walking distance to the lake and close to excellent restaurants.
The price of the rooms was also very reasonable for Lake Tahoe.
Overall, we had a great experience and we highly recommend this hotel to everyone. We will definitely return there when we go back to Tahoe.

What a gem. The rooms have been renovated. New carpet, fresh paint, cute themed rooms with extra touches to make you feel at home. There are a lot of extras that are available for free use at the inn: bikes, bbq, basketball goal and beautiful outdoor sitting area that has a view of the lake. The owners were very hospitable and made sure our visit was great. We had a great experience throughout our stay.

Please read the whole review. I never post Unilocal reviews, but this is a must. Overall, I had a great time at Alder Inn. Read alot of good reviews with an overall 4.5 stars out of 5. So it made me want to book a stay here more. I booked my stay. The manager Chris even managed to offer me a cheaper room with a refund for the difference. They had Good customer service and it was a great experience until the nightmare began. I’ve only heard stories of this happening to people but never would I ever imagine it would happen to me. After i checked out at 9:15 am. About 3 hours later when I arrived back home to Sacramento. I got a call from the owner Chris, he was accusing me of stealing from the hotel room using an angry tone saying «I know you took our robes, I’m going to charge you $ 200 dollars for both of our robes!» I was shocked and confused, I asked why would you think it was me who stole the bathrobes. Then he replied «because you were the only one using the room!». And we argued for a few minutes then he gave me an ultimatum. He said «either I charge your card $ 200 or i’m going to call the police». I said that i wasn’t going to pay because I didn’t take the robes. He then said he would give me 20 minutes to give him a call back. After 3 minutes the manage Chris called back and told me that he has already charged my card and that the cops are on the way. We then got into an argument again, and I was so surprised at the unprofessionalism when he verbally threatened me to come back so he can «KICK MY ASS». His exact words. I told him this isn’t over and he will be in big trouble and that I wont stop until I get justice and my $ 200 back. 20 minutes later he writes an email to me saying that he would never charge my account without my permission (which he did), and he said that the cops never came (which he lied that he called the cops). He then calls me and says that he reversed the $ 200 charge to my card. He also said that he can’t do much because he didn’t have me on camera, which i told him to check. I’m still waiting on my refund for my credit card. «its been 10 hours since the incident. I don’t know if he was serious about his bathrobes missing or he was just trying to scam me to make extra money just because I looked young. I would not RECOMMEND THIS PLACE, SERIOUSLY. Worst experience ever.

We stayed here for a week for our anniversary and we loved it! This place is perfect and so quaint and cozy and in the best location! It’s off the main street so no noise, but 5 minutes to shopping, restaurants and a gorgeous pier and beach. Only 20 min from either sand harbor or emerald bay. The owner is awesome and nice, he just bought this place a couple months ago and has already made a bunch of upgrades and he works so hard to keep this place nice. You just see him all over the property all day working, watering flowers and fixing the place up. There are games like ping pong, horse shoes, basketball, pool, hot tub and beach cruisers. He was also installing a boche ball court while we were there. The whole atmosphere is beautiful and cozy with little bistro tables and outdoor living room sets on the deck with string lights. Our room was chic and nice, very quiet, clean and the bed was comfortable. We will definitely be back! Great Inn at a great price!

Looked on Unilocal for inexpensive place to stay in Tahoe. Saw good reviews for the Alder Inn and decided to give it a try. The owner greeted us upon arrival, walked us to our room, was so kind and welcoming.
You can tell that they care about their inn: there are so many special, personal touches in each room, as well as throughout the grounds – BBQs to use, nice bicycles free to check out, pretty flowers, candies on your bed.
Bed is soft and sooo comfortable. Building is older but maintained and cared for. We will definitely be back.

Great service from the owner /​manager, clean rooms, reasonable prices, and a hot tub on frozen nights!

We stayed for two days to escape the hot valley heat. Pulling up to a nicely landscaped freshly painted Hotel I noticed the cruiser bikes and the BBQ equipment nearby. After a quick check-​in we rode the bikes to Regan Beach and marveled at all the new water in Lake Tahoe. A quick ride back and we headed out for dinner. The Keurig coffee was great alot better than the standard coffee makers in hotels. We really liked the fact that Ski Run was off the main traffic area. We did have to break out the fan as it was getting alittle stuffy in the room at night.

What a great experiences at this Inn! Our plans at a different hotel fell through at the last minute and everything was SO expensive. My fiancé and I came up to celebrate our anniversary and we were devastated that we no longer had a hotel reservation… until we found this jewel. We read previous reviews, the photos looked cute and clean so we gave it a shot. What a great choice! Upon arrival we were met by the owner Michael who was very welcoming and helpful. He gave us the option of two different style rooms which was fantastic… who has ever gotten to choose their hotel room! We were offered a list of amazing water falls to hike to and yummy restaurants close by. We decided to go swimming and the owner brought us champagne for our anniversary! So far staying here at the Alder Inn has been amazing!!!

I just visited Tahoe last month and was staying here. This place is awesome and the owner, Laura was very helpful in giving us a lot of info about the things to do and places to visit near by. The stay was very comfy and the hot tub was amazing. I really recommend this place and will surely visit it again when I go to Tahoe!

Thank you for the nice and comfortable stay here Alder Inn. My Bf and I had a great stay here when we stopped by Tahoe to ski/​snowboard. It was very comfortable and clean. The hot tub was open and we got the chance to enjoy the warmth in the cold weather. This inn is surrounded by Red Hut and other places you can get food at and shop souvenirs/​supplies for! Beautiful and comfortable room that felt like home, easy check in & check out!
We will be back next time and I definitely recommend!

This place is very nice and very homey all of the rooms have a different theme and they are all great. The staff is very friendly and helpful alot of places to visit within walking distance. The only thing my wife and I had a problem with was keeping the water in the shower at one temperature it would be hot and cold by itself. Other than that I highly recommend it.

Alder Inn … What a lovely hidden gem!
Just went last week for a quick weekend getaway.
From the moment we arrived, I was impressed by the friendly ladies that welcomed us at their check in counter …
Lots of small personal touches that you do not see in larger hotels.
We were escorted to our room. as she explained the amenities available to us.
Room had a refrigerator, microwave, wine glasses, charming basket on the bed with helpful information & yummy chocolates!
Every room is decorated differently. Ours was charming & cozy!
I felt like I was right at home, with the exact color scheme we have in our own home !
The next morning I stepped out to get some literature. One of the gals at the desk stepped outside, and asked if there was anything she could help us with. Her name was Allie. Not sure of correct spelling
She gave me very useful tidbits of information
She genuinely cared. She was truly delightful
I’m so happy we stayed at Alder Inn & we will definitely stay here again!

For a small motel the Alder Inn was really welcoming, very warming, and deserve this ⁴⁄₅ stars.

The Alder Inn is either 1 — 3 blocks away from everything tourist or someone on vacation needs. All of the ski resorts, ski and board rental shops, the beautiful pier, a lot of restaurants different, as well as a mile and a half from the casinos and more restaurants. As well as the downtown area with all the shopping centers

Before checking in I would call up to the hotel just to ask about the weather and a young lady named ALI always answered the phone and was always very very helpful! Upon arriving, she made sure to give me brochures of all of the attractions, nearby activities, restaurants and cafes. She even gave me a coupon pamphlet to a few of the shops (a few were old though, managers need to do something about). She made sure I had rose peddles, and champagne for the special occasion. Everything was on point!

This is were the Alder Inn lost their 5^th star. I’m already a pretty neat guy, so I made sure to keep all of my things in order so that room service wouldn’t have such a hard time and that’s for every hotel. But this room service only came one time and the time they did come to put towels and fix the bed I had a «do not disturb“sign on the door. We didn’t have fresh towels throughout the weekend, but if you just go to the front desk Ali will be more than happy to help you out!

When you book a room in Lake Tahoe for under $ 150 dollars after a great snow, even if the reviews are good you are still curious as to what you are going to get. All I can say is this is the BEST place to stay on the lake. Honestly I debated rating the property in fear that it will get over booked for the next time we want to come but when we got back from a long day on the hill and Chris and Monica had decorated our room with Happy Birthday happiness for my birthday today, I had to run a risk and give the credit to this awesome home away from home in South Lake Tahoe.
The rooms are renovated wonderfully! CLEAN and comfortable from the beds to the bathrooms. Anyone that nit picks the tile work is spending too much time in the room and too little time on the lake and mountain. The hot tube is clean and total icing on the cake. If you have any questions about my review, just knock on a few doors here because chances are, we’ll be checked in and living for our weekends! Thank you Chris for running such a tight establishment, we look forward to seeing you next weekend!

My boyfriend and I booked 2 nights here at the Alder Inn while exploring South Tahoe. Overall we had a wonderful experience here, the staff was very friendly and we used the FREE bike rentals everyday to get around town! The bikes were definitely the highlight of our stay. The location is great and the price is a steal when exploring the Tahoe area. Overall great experience and we would stay here again!

Cute and comfortable. A great VALUE in Tahoe! The hospitality is wonderful – the innkeepers are super warm and friendly. My husband and I went over the past weekend to celebrate our anniversary and we had champagne waiting for us upon arrival. It was a very sweet touch, not to mention the complimentary chocolates. We loved our stay. It’s a really convenient location in South Lake – near lots of restaurants, the lake, casinos, etc. We loved the free bikes. We took them out for the day along the bike path near the beach.
We will return.

We picked this place based on the great reviews and the great price which was $ 100 a night in March.
The lady working the front desk was very friendly and talkative. She gave us many suggestions on what to see and do and where to eat.
The exterior of the place is very nice and well maintained.
Our room was small which you would expect from an older motel type place.
The décor in the room was whimsical and fun!
There was a ‘welcome’ basket on the bed when we arrived with some granola bars and other useful information… which was a nice treat!
The room had a small fridge, a Keurig coffee maker and a ceiling fan… which was a nice bonus!
Unfortunately, the place didn’t live up to the high rating for us.
First off, this place has the worst pillows ever. They are completely flat… I’ve never seen a pillow this thin! It is so strange. I cannot believe we would be the first people to ever complain about the pancake-​like pillows?! We asked for additional pillows and ended up with 6 on the bed which still wasn’t enough!
The Wi-​Fi never worked. We were given the warning when we checked in that «the Wi-​Fi might be weaker over in this area» which was code for «the Wi-​Fi doesn’t work at all in this room»!
The workmanship of the makeover seems to be pretty low budget. We happened to notice the hinges of the front door to the room were missing most of the screws. Some were only held in with 1 screw?! And the tile work was pretty funny over the bathroom sink. It just seemed very low budget which made us question the rest of the place. Attention to detail is NOT their strong point!
The room was clean.
Not sure about all the extra throw pillows and blankets on the bed. Those pillows get thrown on the floor by each guest and then put right back on the bed… kinda old school.
All in all, it is probably a good value for the money… A-​OK.
There are so many places to stay in the area… next time I would spend a little more money and get something just a bit nicer.
