PR Woodworks

I gotta say that working with PR woodworks was an excellent experience from start to finish. In my limited experience in working with tradesmen in the San Lorenzo Valley, Pete stands out as the best by far. If he gives you a date and time to show up guess what — he shows up. Pete and his crew went way above and beyond his original bid for deck work (repair and partial replacement). He did not go over the estimated amount and completed the job by the estimated due date. Maybe the attributes I’m listing are what we consumers should all expect however I have found that it is really the exception and not the norm. If you need decking or fence work and you want it done on time and on budget, look nowhere else. 5 stars is not enough!

Like other reviews, very pleased. The quality of work is excellent — pretty obvious Pete and team (Vicente) know what they are doing, and the price is fair. With many contractors in Santa Cruz county you have problems in three areas 1) communication in general 2) showing up when they say they will 3) clearing out the materials after their done. Pete was good at communicating (email and phone), clear in letting me understand when they work, and when they would be back (you do have to have some flexibility with most contractors, they are working multiple jobs). Upon finishing, all waste wood, concrete, every little scrap — was removed (it’s annoying when contractors only do 90%, but leave some stuff in the yard). A contractor to a large extent is a safety advisor as well — and Pete was spot-​on, making sure we understood where he thought we had risks in areas that originally were not in scope. Use PR Woodworks, they won’t disappoint.

Pete and his staff are awesome. We knew we wanted a deck, but that’s all we knew. Pete was the first contractor to respond to my request for a quote and he came right out. He helped us figure out what we wanted — size, design, overall look, etc. We then used that idea to get quotes from two other contractors. Pete’s bid was the lowest, and he was the contractor with whom we felt the most comfortable so we hired him.
When it came time to start the work, Pete came back out to go over the plans again. We had changed our minds (several times) about whether we wanted the pergola against the house (there was an awning over the door originally and we debated whether to remove the awning). Pete went with the flow, provided his feedback, and helped us feel good about the final decision to remove the awning.
Pete had a vacation planned for the first week of our project but he assured us that Vicente would be great and we would have no concerns. He was right — Vicente was awesome! He checked in with us regularly, asked us to make small decisions along the way, and pointed out potential challenges with the design and made recommendations for how to best work around the challenge (for instance, we have an access panel for our attic fan just above the pergola. Vicente worked around the access panel and changed out the hardware so that we could remove the access panel completely, rather than needing to leave enough room for the panel door to swing open. These little alterations made a huge difference.
In total, Vicente did the following work for us: re-​routed an irrigation line, routed electrical line to create an outlet on one of the pergola posts, built a deck and pergola, broke up and removed concrete which was then replaced with brick pavers, and they moved a raised garden bed from one part of the yard to another part of the yard. He very much had a «no problem, we can do that!» attitude throughout the project.
I would hire Pete and his crew again in a heart beat. They have a good eye for design, a strong attention to detail, and are extremely customer service focused. On top of that, they’re very reasonably priced and responsive to calls, emails, and texts. We love our new deck and pergola!

We had Pete give us his ideas and his estimate for a large pergola that we built in the back yard. After speaking with him and seeing some of his quality work, it was a simple decision to have him and his crew do the work. Pete is honest as the day is long, dependable and we got our pergola constructed much sooner than I expected. That was because Pete knew what he was doing and the project went up very quickly which kept the labor cost down. There were absolutely no problems and it was a pleasure to work with him. Also, all of Pete’s crew were skilled carpenters and they worked as a great team.

Super excited with our service from Pete and his crew. He built us an amazing fence that the neighborhood won’t stop talking about! He’s professional, knows his stuff, on time, hard working and his quality shows in his work. His crew is respectful and hard working. I would highly recommend them!

Pete helped me this past summer (2013) fix up the fencing on a house going on the market. Once again his price was extremely fair and the construction beyond my expectations by far. My opinion has not changed, as long as I’m in the Santa Cruz area PR Woodworks will be my first call for any fencing needs.

Pete redid parts of our fence, with gates on either side. I must admit, we had some difficulty at first and the posts were not solid. But Pete was more than happy to come out and fix it, even after a couple of years had passed. So while we had some issues at first, he made it right and it seems pretty darned solid now.
I’d recommend him.

Today Pete finished the third project we hired him for. There are not enough superlatives to describe the quality of work or imagination, thoughtfulness and professionalism Pete brings to any project. Reasonably priced, timely and creative, if you need this type of work done, you won’t do any better than Pete — period!

PR woodworks is thee best! Pete and his crew always do an amazing job. He just finished a deck addition and some fencing and I couldn’t be more pleased! Always on time, great attention to detail and comes up with fantastic ideas that always turn out wonderful! Punctual and fair priced, you can’t go wrong with PR woodworks! Pete does amazing, quality work at a fair price. We had him enclose our orchard and garden area at our new home with a deer fence last summer.
I got three bids and while they were all very close in price, I felt Pete was the the most knowledgeable of the three contractors. He was easy to work with and answered all of our questions. He finished on time and on budget. We are very happy with our fence and that is has kept the deer from helping themselves to our fruit and veggies.
You will not be disappointed if you choose him for your job. We would definitely call him again for any type of wood working we may need in the future!
I do have to say another reason I chose him is because he’s also former Michigander and I knew he’d have excellent work ethic being raised in the mid west :)

I’ve only got two tools in my toolbox, WD-​40 to make it go and duct tape to make it stop. Needless to say the thought of me building a deck is a bit scary.
Luckily, Pete at PR Woodworks is competent at using other tools to get the job done… and none of them are duct tape. We hired Pete after and exhausting search for someone to build a entryway deck in front of our house, and I’m so happy we did! Pete is a master craftsman, he’s creative, and he has integrity. If you’ve tried to work with other contractors in Santa Cruz, you’ll know that’s a tall order for most of them.
We had to wait about six weeks for him to start the job, but that shows you that he’s in demand. He’s in demand because he’s really good at what he does. We had a simple request, but Pete came back to us with an idea that went above and beyond what we thought possible. He arrived promptly on the date we agreed upon and got to work immediately pulling out old stair railings, and tearing down gates for replacement. I got daily updates from him via email with photos and a full report about the day’s activities.
In the end, Pete put more time, effort and materials into our deck– just because he thought the end product would look nicer. He didn’t forward that cost on to us. He takes pride in his work and our new gates and front deck show that.
I wouldn’t hesitate to hire Pete for whatever outdoor landscaping project you need from decks to gates to fences, he’ll deliver.

Pete was worth the wait. He is in demand and with good reason. Showed up on the scheduled date, came up with an original design for a redwood arbor, and took my ideas for a sunburst gate and fence and improved upon them. Outstanding craftsmanship, efficient and friendly. Very good communicator, emailed me each day with status reports, so I knew exactly what to expect. Pete is simply outstanding at what he does; it is his passion and it shows. He has very high standards and meets them. A real pleasure; the best woodworker I have had the pleasure of working with, and I have worked with many.

We hired Pete to design and build a small deck in our back yard. He spotted several issues we had missed, gave us a great design, and completed the project on time and on budget. Pete is skilled, honest, courteous, and friendly. We wouldn’t use anyone else.

Pete was wonderful to work with and the quality of his work was even better. He showed up on time when he said he would. He built us a beautiful boardwalk style walkway to our house and a run for our chicken coop. We couldn’t be happier.

We had Pete build an attached sun room and laundry room. Pete was on-​time and innovative, provided some very good ideas as the project went along. Pete did most assembly and painting at his shop, then brought the pieces to my home and assembled them there. All-​in-​all, the project went smoothly, and looks great. Pete knows what he is doing at all stages of construction, the work is top-​notch.

Pete is amazing. He just finished building us a deer fence. And, he built stairs, a door and a trex deck for a large tree house project in our backyard. We also had him put in a tetherball poll. He’s always on or under budget, and he always completes his work on time or faster. He’s creative and a pleasure to work with. We’re looking for more projects for him to do now. It’s so rare to find such a high quality craftsman who is also so reliable, especially in Santa Cruz. Pete is a gem!

We recently got several bids for a deck in our yard. PR woodworks was one of our bids. Pete showed up on time showed us his portfolio and got down to designing a beautiful addition to our home.
After receiving all the bids Pete’s stood out. He thought of some clever details to make the deck unique including a corner step and a sit bench.
We also love the fact that Pete is in control of all aspects of the job and easy to reach as the owner of the company.
