Floyd’s 99 Barbershop

This review is mainly for Lisa, but also this Floyd’s has the most friendly staff of any I’ve been to, and of course prices are great.
Lisa took me on for bayalage color pretty late on a Friday night and was happy to take her time and perfect the craft. I didn’t know exactly what I wanted but she nailed it. She’s such a kind person and it seemed like everyone was really amenable to helping her and each other out. Def give her a call!

Susan has now cut my son’s hair three times and each time she has given him a great cut. She is extremely detail oriented. She takes her time. My son and I both leave happy. Kids’ cuts (for kids 10 and under) are $ 19 instead of the usual $ 26.

I’ve been to Studio City, Woodland Hills, and Manhattan Beach before, so there is a certain level of service and expertise I have come to expect.
I came in as a random walk in, and Nona was awesome. Friendly and professional, I told her what I’ve had in the past and asked her to «do something» cool for my head. I’m very happy with the result. I just love the price point that Floyd’s is in, and will make sure to come back more.

I’ve been to a few Floyd’s Barbershops and for the most part they’re pretty solid. But this one gave me a couple problems with today being the last straw.
I’ve described how I want my haircut the same way for years: 2 on the sides, trim the top and BLEND it in, using my hands for visual aid. It’s a damn standard haircut. The moron decides to cut it his way, telling me afterwards that THAT’S how HE prefers it. He used the 2 way higher than what I wanted and no blending, so he left me with a clump of long hair on top. Using water to mat it down and comb it to the side, while not making it much better, helps momentarily, but my hair is too thick to actually style it that way.
Best part about it, as soon as I noticed he wasn’t going to blend anything I realized that this motherf***** had the same damn hipster haircut! Buzzed on the sides, long and combed to the side. I can’t stand that look. I hate that look.
Only AFTER he was done did he ask me if anyone cut it like that before. I said no. That’s when he told me he preferred it that way.
I got home, inspected it, and went back to get it fixed. It looked atrocious. Worst haircut I have ever gotten. I told the girl I needed it fixed and she asked if I want the same guy. The same guy, she asked! Another lady did some damage control but it was too late.
I have a very big black tie event this Friday and I am EMBARRASSED to show up to it. I will never come to this Floyd’s again.

Waiting for a haircut at Floyd’s in Studio City took forever the last time I went there so I decided to give the Sherman Oaks locale a try. My stylist did a great job trimming my dead ends and giving me some nice, new straight bangs.
As I went to pay, the cashier told me they would honor the $ 26 «haircut» fee printed on the wall this time around but next time I would have to pay $ 37. It’s not like $ 37 is going to break the bank or anything but the principle is really out of whack. They said it’s because of the length of my hair. I have long hair. So if I had shoulder length hair and went in for a basic one-​inch trim, the cost would be less than trimming one inch off my long locks. This makes absolutely no sense to me. A one inch trim is a one inch trim. It’s not like I’m getting fancy layers or anything that requires extra time spent on me. So because of this weird policy, I do not feel I can support this shop anymore. They really need to post this specific information on a wall. «Short hair cuts are $ 26… Medium length hair is XY and Long Hair is XYZ». Really and truly, it’s just ridiculous and I am still in shock as I have never been to a salon that quantifies the cost of haircuts based on a person’s hair length.

My husband is a client of Alex’s and he has been very happy with his hair cuts, so I thought I would have her cut my hair, she did an amazing job! I have never had so many compliments on my hair. I decided to have her do my highlights, now I have had the same person doing my highlights for 10 year so I was a bit anxious, she did an amazing job! The best highlights I have ever had. Ask for Alex, you will be glad you did!!!

I don’t usually write reviews but I absolutely had to for this. First off, I was rude and showed up late & they were understanding and kept my appt. Thanks, Manager! Second, Nona does magic with hair! It took hours to touch up my roots and give me a balayage ombré and cut. (Yes, they do this here) She took her time and I could tell she loves what she does. While my hair was processing I watched her cut 4 men’s hair. All super clean. The end result of my hair, amazing! I’ve never received so many compliments on both color and cut. Thanks Nona!

My first review was taken down because it «violated the guidelines,» which I don’t understand because it was well written and thoughtful. So, I will try again. I just want to keep this short and say that my one star review is because it’s somewhat hard to get a licensed barber at Floyd’s «barbershop.» On multiple occasions, I’ve gone in and there were nothing but cosmetologists. If you call yourself a barbershop, you should have AT LEAST one barber on staff at all times.
I shouldn’t have to call to make sure a licensed barber will be there when I arrive.

Out of all the barber shops, I never seem to connect with anyone and I feel the haircut translates that so. I’ve found that Floyds tends to be more inviting and has a good atmosphere compared to other barber shops that didn’t understand that I just needed a haircut and shave… Obviously I’m not going in to do my taxes… Probably not funny but that’s how I feel…
Moving on, came to this Floyds and had an appointment with J.R.. This man was AWESOME, haircut and beard trim and shave. He said everything I was thinking and he called out all the things I hated about my last cut. Not only did he fix my hair and beard, he told me what and why he was doing the style he did, I went home happy, still tried to find something wrong and I just became more impressed

Excellent service and a great cut. That’s what you want. Came in from out of town to visit my brother and I felt at home. Great place.

It’s funny, the person at the front of any Floyd’s is usually rude and unprofessional and makes you wanna run away from the place. This location isn’t an exception… The person usually at the front is not welcoming at all. However it is a little better than the Burbank location! Anyway, they are lucky to have Nona. She is the best. Cute, charming and very pro. She’s been cutting and styling my hair for a while now and I haven’t been disappointed. Giselle isn’t bad either, she does a good job too. For the price the place is not bad at all.

Lousy communications with the lady barber. I will never return.
She ran the blow dryer through my hair every time she asked me if I liked it that short. I told her I couldn’t tell with my hair standing on end, going in every direction from the blow dryer. Could she comb or brush it? She handed me a comb to do it myself. This happened twice.
I asked her to even it up on the left, which she started to do. I said it needed to be evened on the right too, and she asked, «What does that mean?»
It means you chose the wrong profession and I chose the wrong barbershop.

I’m going here quite often. I had good experience before this time when I had to deal with JJ. I’m not really picky but JJ did horrible job with beard trim and hair cut. I’m going to give one detail; my beard isn’t even on right and left side.
So don’t go to JJ.

I just left the barber shop and Im not someone to ever write bad reviews but i am just so displeased with a stylist at the floyds.
this first started about a month an a half ago, I am no amateur when it comes to my hair i know what i like and i tell the stylists exactly how i want it. Prior to this incident I’ve had haircuts by a few of the girls at this location and every single one did a GREAT job, was super sweet and really tried to understand exactly what i wanted.
So on to the first bad situation.
i walk in on the day before my birthday and its about an hour from closing, i can tell i came in at the wrong time but they take me and for that i was very grateful. They send me to JJ the only male stylstlt I’ve seen at the salon. In my head I’m thinking «he is going to do such a great job»
so this first time i explained that i like a 1 on the sides of my hair and i like the top taken down barley max an inch, and i like me hair more thinned out than actually cut.
He asks if i want a fade, and i explain i always get it slightly disconnected and that the girls there usually do it is disconnected.
I like to give a certain amount of freedom to my stylists so that they can really do the best job and really put their touch on my hair.
He than responds «the don’t know how to fade thats why.» odd answer i thought but it was my birthday and i wanted to look the best i could so i trusted him, thats where it all went terribly wrong.
So first he fades my hair, which was different, i didn’t mind that back faded out or being lined up, he does this well.
So when he started the top of my hair he measures an amount and says is this ok?
i respond, that i want MAX an inch cut off he says he understands.
He grabs the front part of my hair and blunt cuts off about double that.
At that point i wanted to cry, however i know hair grows back and was hoping maybe it’ll be a little shorter but still super sharp. I WAS WRONG. He BLUNT cut the entire top of my hair leaving it super boxy without much shape. To add to the experience, he is extremely rough, and I’m no baby. He holds you by the top of the head with his thumb and index finger stabbing at your scalp and will slap your head around instead of gently moving it.
when he uses the clippers he is super rough and just pushes harder if it snags at the hair.
He has more barber skills so i let it go and just stayed quiet. when he was done he gave me a mirror didn’t ask if i needed it washed or product, i Always get my hair washed and styled just because it is a lot easier for me that way.
I walked away upset and wore a hat on my birthday. This however i just said it was a bad day I’m not going to be rude its hair and it’ll grow back. i still left him a 10 tip as I never cheap out my hair dressers.
So i walk in today an i see there are only 3 stylists with JJ being one of them that his chair was empty. so Immediately I’m at alert but I’m not one to be rude. they assign me to him and i sit in the chair again, this time i am extremely detailed in how i want my hair, i ask for a one on the sides with no fade and that i wanted it slightly disconnected. He than says that a fade will be better, i don’t bring up my last encounter with him i just say no thanks this is what i like he says ok.
i showed him how much hair i wanted to cut off, so I’m pretty secure that this should be a breeze.
He does the sides and he fades my hair, at that point I’m just like ok, still super rough with they way he taps you cuts the hair but i just let it go. as long as the front looks good ill have a good experience.
Than the top,
i tell him i wanted it cut barley at all i just like the ends really cut to make the hair look fresh and wanted it to be thinned out. So he starts with the back this time and usually the back is a bit shorter than the front so i didn’t feel anything different.
This time however I’m not facing the mirror so i don’t really know whats happening.
than he grabs the front piece, which i have told him i don’t want length off just it shaped and looking fresh.
NOPE my hair is hacked like a machete, super blunt cut super short and super boxy. Again and again i feel as he is blunt cutting the hair, and I’m just defeated as now it all needs to match. He does my but in about 10 min. when done he gets a bowl thats lying on the workspace and wipes my face eyes open. than he takes off the cape and says you are all done not asking me at all if anything needs to be changed, no offer of a wash or style.
again I’m so displeased. i walk to the bathroom frantically and see if i can style the hair in a way where it’ll look decent. to my horror it is seriously the exact same cut. This time however i am pissed.
1. i came back to the establishment
2. I gave the stylist jj the benefit of the doubt
3. I was very detailed with what i wanted.
I don’t know how again i could be so displeased however i will NOT be returning to the floyds on ventura.

Long wait times, horrible parking situation, and overpriced haircuts. There is a high turnover in barbers which makes it hard to find consistency for a good cut. Find an independently-​owned barber shop and go there instead.

I went to this location when they first opened and received a horrible haircut. I didn’t go back for the longest time. About two weeks ago needing a quick and easy cut and not wanting to drive far I decided to give them another try since seeing some better reviews. Bad mistake. I don’t remember who cut my hair, but she took all of about five minutes to butcher me. I asked for a fade, no fade just a huge shave line in my head. Thanks. The rest my hair looks so choppy I had to go somewhere the next day to get it fixed. This place is the worst. If you want to go to a Floyd’s please drive the extra seven minutes and go to Studio City where they have experienced hairstylists. I will not be going back a third time.

I have been a hair stylist for many years so I am more than qualified to give a review of Floyd’s. My first cut was with Giselle and my second visit was with Adrian. On both occasions, I was highly impressed with their work. Not only is Floyd’s staffed with excellent barbers and stylists, but the vibe was so cool that I decided I wanted to work there. After just a week working with my amazing new team, watching and learning, I can honestly say I trust anyone in here to take care of my hair.

This review is for Lori. Lori is extremely knowledgeable about men’s hair cuts. She doesn’t really say much and is on the quieter side, but if you are a loud chatterbox like me, then you have nothing to worry about. Lori was able to accommodate me with all my requests and picky needs as she cut my hair (blow dry my face, clean my neck, answered all my questions, etc). Thank you Lori!
Also, Daniel the receptionist is really nice and he is great at answering any questions.
The parking lot is in the rear, but it could get really tight and it’s tandem. I wish they had valet. Also, $ 26 for a basic hair cut is a little high, when it does not even include a wash. But I will return to this location whenever I’m in a rush and my primary hair stylist is unavailable.

The longest relationship I’ve ever had was with a woman named Misty. We were together for seven long years, seeing each other about once a month when she cut my hair. During those seven years, friends and girlfriends came and went, hobbies changed, new challenges were faced. But Misty was always that constant in a sea of change, and I remained ever faithful. Unfortunately, I had to leave her as the siren’s call beckoned me to Southern California. It was the hardest breakup I’ve ever been through. But I think the staff at Floyd’s will help me get over it.
How did I pick Floyd’s? I needed a haircut on a Sunday and they were open, and right across the street from where the special ladyfriend was getting her nails done. Upon walking in, I was greeted to a place teeming with people, the walls decorated with rock and pop culture iconography. The whole place had this vibe that recalled my second home, The Silver Ballroom in St. Louis, minus the pinball machines and the smoke.
I was a walk-​in, but they were able to accommodate me. The wait was minimal, even though they were busy. Kenny cut my hair, and he was extremely personable, making excellent age-​appropriate banter, as if he sensed right away that I was a 12-​year old trapped in an aging man’s body. I don’t usually like to make small talk during a haircut, but when your barber has a gift of gab like this dude, it’s hard to stay quiet.
My hairstyle is pretty vanilla, since I’ve got to keep it respectable, but nevertheless, I was very satisfied with my haircut. The price is right, too.
They say you’ll never quite get over your first love, and I think they’re right. As good as the experience was at Floyd’s, I think I will always miss the secret mancave vibe of my barbershop in St. Louis, where the beer was flowing and the minty towels on your face were steaming hot, and the place knew its clientele so well that they remembered what you want the minute you walked in the door. Fat chance I’ll ever find that here in the nation’s second-​largest city. But, if every experience at Floyd’s is as good as my first, I think I’ll be able to make peace and move on.

I normally don’t go here. but for a last minute cut I will go. I called ahead and asked who can do High-​Fade Cuts, so Jasmin paired me with JJ.
When I went in I met JJ, he was a nice guy, I had no problem with him personally. Started off the conversation about how he did’t like working Sundays. Yeah, who does? I agree with him and he goes in on my cut. When the cut was over, 15 mins later, he shows me the mirror and I point out a few issues with my cut; visible lines in the blend and so on. He seemed annoyed and aggressivly began «fixing» the problem. I look at it again and it still looked the same. So I ask him to try again. After all is said and done, he takes off my apron, and I ask if «that’s it?» He says, «Yeah…» I got no razor neck shave, no product or a massage (who cares). so I say Ok, and go up front to pay.
I got home and noticed other various issues. Basically, it was a VERY sloppy cut, I called up the shop and explained to Jasmin my problem. She asked if I wanted to schedule something or come back. I went straight back. Mind you, I’ve never had to go back to a barber to get my hair fix, ever. So this was a first.
They eventually sit me with Adrian, who was a boss. He saw the problems right away without me telling him and cut my hair perfectly and gently. Fixed all the problems and my hair is back looking good. I will come back to see him strictly. I gave him a tip and was on my merry way.
Adrian, you’re the man. 3 Stars for the whole establishment, But I would give you 5 stars personally.
