We are a general store devoted exclusively to local products. We believe in giving our customers an easy and efficient way to make thoughtful purchasing decisions. We do this by providing goods that only come from local, regional, and national suppliers.

The store is specifically designed to be a distributor for a wide variety of products that fulfill the daily needs of our locavore communities. While locavorism itself is usually confined to food and beverage products, we aim to broaden this «farm to table» mindset to include your everyday item needs as well.

All of our products, including food, household items, body products, clothing and accessories, and more, are hand-​picked by us from US producers with a focus on the Pacific Northwest. Over time, this will improve not only our economy but also our self-​sufficiency as a region.

History

Established in 2014.

Us owners got tired of spending so much of our own time researching the histories and origins of the products we buy when we realized that it could be done so much more efficiently and effectively if someone would just step up to the plate and put it all under one roof. And so The General Store Seattle was born.

We designed it specifically to be a no-​fuss, practical, utilitarian way to return to our American roots and put our money where our values are. We have had an absolute blast researching products, talking to local suppliers, and organizing the whole she-​bang so we are positively thrilled to share the joy with everyone!

I have worked in the retail industry on and off ever since high school but never really considered it as a career until the idea for The General Store Seattle flowered in my mind. I had spent so much of my own time researching and buying local products until I realized that it could be done so much more efficiently and effectively if someone would just step up to the plate and put it all under one roof. So, why not me? I introduced the idea first to my roommate, then my mother, then my father, then my friends, and so on and so forth. The possibility of it all dazzled me and the enthusiasm I received from all I told about the idea convinced me to make my dream a reality. And so The General Store Seattle was born.
