History

Established in 2006.

Kelly Viergutz purchased PugetPets in 2012 from founder Ruth Zaslow. Kelly came on staff in 2007 and did all services, eventually consulting with Ruth in hiring and customer service. Kelly is a Certified Veterinary Technician and has worked in vet hospitals in Seattle. Founded by Ruth Zaslow in 2006, Ruth put her passions for animal welfare, community service, and innovative business leadership together through PugetPets.

Kelly is a certified vet tech whose talent with animals was recognized in high school, when, as a senior, she was awarded an internship in a leading vet tech program, Front Range Community College based in Fort Collins, Colorado. Kelly went on to excel in that degree program, and was chosen for an elite internship at the Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital, considered one of the top three veterinary teaching hospitals in the US.

After graduation and over the next five years, Kelly worked in veterinary hospitals, where her work responsibilities ranged from assisting during surgery and other procedures, to administering vaccines, to caring for boarded animals. Kelly joined PugetPets in 2007, first as a dog walker and pet sitter. As the broad scope of her talents became clear, she also consulted in the areas of hiring and service quality. In 2012, Kelly has taken the leadership and ownership position in PugetPets, where she puts her unique combination of skills to use.

The most CARING, RELIABLE, and PROFESSIONAL dog walkers we have ever used. Always on time, sends wonderful subs if regular walker is ill or unavailable (only happened once.) Prompt and timely communication via text, voice and email. Provides journal of all visits. Again, they are fabulous, caring people. Your pet will love them!

Puget Pets has been a big part of our dog family for 5 years. I could always count on their compassionate care and focused attention for both Belle (our old girl) and Maddy (the crazy pup).
Whenever we had last minute add or delete it was always received with a «yes we can take care of that».

Whenever I hear someone is in need of pet-​sitting or dog walking services, I tell them about Puget Pets! We have been using PugetPets for about a year now and we couldn’t be happier with both our regular dog-​walker (Daniella), our over-​night pet sitter (Staci) and the entire staff that fills in from time-​to-​time.
We have two very energetic pups who need more than their fair share of exercise on a daily basis. Daniella comes 4Xs a week and the boys are thrilled to see her and exhausted when she leaves. We receive daily notes of the boys adventures (and sometimes mischief)!
We tend to travel a lot, and when we do, we know that our pups are in good hands. On our recent overnight trip to visit family back east for the holiday, we received texts of pics of the pups dressed in Christmas hats and a printed photo journal detailing the boys adventures when we got back… it was their «christmas gift» for us!
In fact, our pups are so spoiled during their time with PugetPets that they rarely notice we are gone/​back!
Leaving your pet in the hands of someone else can be scary; but, from the moment we met Ruth and her team, we have felt so comfortable that our pups are spoiled with love and care while we are working and when we are away.
One more thing, I could swear my house is cleaner after we get back from our overnight trips than when I left! We are so happy to have found PugetPets!

Puget Pets is great! We have used them for daily walks as needed for over a year and could not be happier. They help us out with last minute requests and schedules all the time and get right back to us either by internet or phone. The price for the walks is very reasonable especially for the services they provide and care they offer.
Our Dog Walker is very experienced and reliable. She is so caring with our very shy dog, all of our pets love her. Everyday we are left a daily report about our dog and get details about how she is doing.
I fully trust this company and its employees with my beloved pets and my home. They truly are the best.

I can’t rave about these folks highly enough. I have a dog and cat, and typically when I’m gone on vacation, my somewhat jittery dog needs a few days to recover when I get home.
Not this Christmas! Puget Pet visited 3x/​day for a price comparable to boarding her (maybe about $ 20 more total), and when I got home, my sweet girl was mellow, happy, and did I mention *mellow*?
The Puget Pet walkers left me detailed notes from their visits that helped me a great deal. I was so impressed, I sent them an extra tip, and consider the whole deal money very well spent.
Now our Puget Pets walker, Sara, visits twice a week in the middle of the day, and it’s been wonderful. I still get detailed notes, and I so appreciate having 2 days each week when I don’t have to rush home to let the pets out. It’s made a huge difference for me.
As others mention up here — Ruth, the owner, is extraordinary. Very professional, very caring, and a real treat to work with.

We’ve used Puget Pets twice and have been very pleased both times. Ruth was professional and things ran like clockwork both with the initial consulation and the 2nd time we booked them (no consulation needed). We had some really odd scheduling needs for the 2nd booking and it didn’t phase them a bit.
Both times we’ve gotten back, our cat was happy to see us but only chewed us out a little bit… it was obvious she’d gotten plenty of people time while we were gone and that was priceless. All of the additional requests we made (mail, garbage etc) were fully carried out. As mentioned by other people, a very detailed note was left letting us know how things went.
We’ll definitely use Puget Pets again and have recommended them to friends and family. Two thumbs up.

PugetPets has always been great for me. They have an online registration system for new service, which is a big timesaver when you travel often. I also like that they will send you daily email reports on how your pets are (mis-)behaving. It is great piece of mind to know that everthing is ok.
The service itself has been very reliable. The various sitters have always done a good job caring for our cats, who seem to have taken a special liking to our most frequent sitter Sam. (Yay Sam!!) Ruth has been very responsive when I have had issues like needing last-​minute service.

Puget Pets has been a lifesaver! We received this as a gift to help us as we adjust to life with a new baby. Our two dogs are loving it and my husband and I don’t feel as guilty when we don’t have time for as many walks. Tim — our dogwaker is great! The dogs actually will sit near the door listening for any signs that Tim is here around our scheduled dog walking time. It’s sad during the weekends since we only have Tim Mon through Friday — our furry babies can’t distinguish weekends so they will sit near the door all morning.

It bothers me to read these nasty critiques of Ruth and Puget Pets. They are simply the best and most caring pet sitters in Seattle. Our Aussie and our cats adore Laura, our regular, who leaves us daily notes on her visits, and even has visited us on her off time to make sure she understands our Aussie’s training and our burglar alarm. Ruth is super conscientious and responsive, both via email and by phone.
This is the top rated pet walking and sitting service on City Search, and no wonder. Don’t miss out on them.

Spectacular! That sums this company up. We first discovered them last fall when my fiancé and I bought a house together and blended our «families»: my two kitties and his two dogs and a cat. PugetPets handled everything with finesse: from the detailed questions that Ruth, the owner asked at the initial meeting, to the fact that the sitter made every single visit exactly on time – during all of those horrible December snows. The sitter even offered us ideas on how to make the animals’ transition easier. And believe me, we trusted her on this because she was a certified animal trainer finishing up advanced certifications! Naturally, when I decided to move from consulting to a full time job at one of my client’s last month, and we realized we’d need daily walks for the dogs, there was no doubt who we’d call. We’re three weeks into the daily walks and frankly, the dogs are happier, more relaxed, and more tired than they ever were from my walks. And the billing scheduling and other administrative stuff is as perfect as the pet care. We get detailed invoices, we can pay online with a credit card and we get daily updates about the walks. And that simple online system they have for making pet sitting requests is even more convenient than phone or email. Though I’m not sure I’d tell PugetPets this, I’d pay a whole lot more for the spectacular service they provide. But I’m thrilled that on top of everything, their prices are so low.

I’m not someone who would be considered terribly skilled at the day to day challenges of modern living. I pay my cable bill when they call to tell me they’re shutting it off. I have 3 months of dry cleaning sitting in a bag by the front door. If it weren’t for the fact that I have a Safeway downstairs, I’d probably have starved to death 3 months ago. If I can’t put something on auto-​pay, I generally drop the ball at least once a year.
That being said, I’m a relatively low maintenance guy who in certain situations needs the support that someone who is relatively high maintenance requires. That’s where Ruth and Puget Pets comes to the rescue.
Ruth and team are highly reliable, super flexible, and extremely caring about the animals they work with. I’ve called on more than one occasion a day or less before a flight to arrange pet sitting and they don’t miss a beat.
They also leave thorough notes on what happened during my dog’s (Yma) adventures, which I review with the dog in the evening to determine if there are any points that I can coach her on (no sipping water puddles, leave the cats alone!).
All in all I highly recommend her, Denise and Puget Pets.

Now I know that I should at least wait until Puget Pets actually completes my petsitting arrangement, but I just couldn’t keep my mouth shut about this company.
I recently completed a Red Cross Pet First Aid workshop and Ruth (founder of PugetPets) just happened to be one of the two great instructors who taught the course. Well, during the mid morning break I just happened to hear Ruth discussing pet sitting with two ladies who were starting their own petsitting company. Of course, I couldn’t help but ask Ruth for some more info about her company as we were planning our trip and I hadn’t really solved the issues of finding someone I trusted to look after my babies.
After arriving home I decided to check out the Puget Pets website and ended up emailing her for more information. She actually called me that same evening and we had a great talk. She called again the following evening to confirm that she had an available sitter for the three weeks and to arrange a meet and greet for the sitter to meet my babies.
Just three days later Ruth and Lindsey arrived at my home to meet my babies. I was impressed that Ruth took notes about everything from our daily routine — including food, potty, walking schedules — to my dogs sleeping arrangements and even their personality types. We even had time to go for a 30 minute walk to give Lindsey a chance to see how we interact with our dogs.
I was thoroughly impressed with Ruth’s professionalism as well as her willingness to offer service, that in my opinion, goes over and above what I would expect from a sitter. Do we need our mail collected? Poop scooped (novel idea in our yard)? Daily or weekly updates on my babies — via email or phone? And, even offering to care for our four ferrets, if needed.
There were many things that impressed me about Ruth, but I have to say that I was amazed she was able to get a feel for the dynamics of my dogs relationship and each individual personality — all within the first 20 mins!
Oh, I also love that you can manage your booking dates online, as well as paying online. It really is all so convenient and I feel at ease knowing that someone responsible and dog savvy will be caring for my babies! Oh, and did I mention she does not have an aversion to pitbulls like some of the petsitting companies I came across.

I had a really bad experience with Ruth at Puget Pets. She left my refilling water bowl empty with huge amounts of cat hair in it. When I got home it was making a horrible sound as the motor was slowly burning up. When I confronted her about the fire hazzard she left in my apartment, she reacted as though it was my fault! Immediately she suggested I get another pet sitter. Never once did she appologize or take accountability for her actions. I’m still really upset by the way she treated me.
