Outlander Brewery & Pub

Not awful, but the two-​star «Meh. I’ve experienced better.» suits my experience pretty well. Prices were decent, meat pies were decent, beer was decent. Did love the small-​batch idea but was not blown away by anything on draft. They had a sour that was quite good but other than that, nothing spectacular. Server that helped us when we arrived seemed inconvenienced by us, but the one who we cashed out with was very friendly.

I love this quirky, unpretentious brewery in a old house. They are clearly dedicated to small batches of unique and delicious brews. There’s always something new and a variety to please all the beer tastes. Their furniture is well worn to say the least, but it contributes to the antique vibe.

The beer was solid, the crowd was fantastic, and the place is homie. It felt like I was back in college hanging with friends at my fraternity house.

We went in on a Sunday night — and had a great time. The blueberry porter was excellent. Really friendly server/​bar tender. Took a while to bring in our cheese cake order-​since it needed to thawed well-​but didn’t charge us since it took a while!

I have been frequenting this place since I first discovered it when I moved to Seattle. People are nice there. Cozy little craft beer pub, with interesting local small batch selections. Dragan is nice, and has an excellent sense of music selection (Motown and other old school soul/​rnb). Loving this place.

Was looking for a new brewery to try and Unilocal suggested Outlander Brewery. I drive by it so many times I think I thought it was a coffee shop. Last weekend I gave it a go.
The brewery is in one of those old Craftsman houses, with its middle floor being mostly seating and the back corner (I’m assuming where the kitchen was) was the bar area. The actual «bar area» had three stools and the menu was hung in the corner. Peanut butter and sour raspberry both sounded intriguing and unique, much like the house’s bones. not sure what’s around the corner.
But around the corner from the ordering area (bar, I suppose. I hesitate because of it’s small size) was tiny little two-​top tables and a few large tables where many people were drinking and playing cards/​board games. On a Friday around Happy Hour (inexpensive nibbles! Beer cheese!) it was packed to the brim and roaring loud. I found a table and sat down and felt like I was going to fall to the ground– the chairs were so caved in I had to perch my butt on the wooden side of it to even use the table appropriately. It looked like most two-​top tables had these caved in, ancient ~vintage~ (hey it’s cool, right? Keep Fremont funky…) chairs.
Along with the chairs, the tables were so close together and with the wooden house offering no sound absorption I heard the entire conversation next to me and nothing of my drinking companions. It was so loud. The chair was so uncomfortable. I was so close to the people next to me I felt like chiming in or introducing myself to make it less awkward!
The beer was unique and my sour was definitely sour (if not sour raspberry flavor). I have a feeling it is for people looking for a neigborhood spot to play games with friends and have a beer. If this is your thing, snag a comfortable seat early and enjoy!

My husband and I stopped in here and it sure is a unique spot. It’s like a very old house and has kept it’s original charm. Unfortunately we quickly realized this is a bar only and they don’t have food, which is totally cool but we were absolutely starving so opted to go elsewhere. I wish we could have made it back later in the night to try this place because it seriously looked awesome and had cool vibes inside.

Great place, I come here all the time, but man, you should really work on answering your phone.

This is one of my absolute favorite spots in Fremont.
I don’t claim to be a beer snob per se, but I can be somewhat picky about my brews, that being said; I’ve never had a beer from Outlander that I didn’t like.
Nigel really knows his craft, and Dragan is one of the funniest and coolest guys around. Stop in if you want a truly memorable experience at one of the hidden gems of Fremont.

I’m such a fan of Outlander Brewery. They specially designed beer for a friend’s wedding which was delicious and when we happened to pass by the day after the wedding they were so welcoming and warm, it felt like we were part of the family, even though we were out-​of-​towners. Their beer is adventurous, delicious, and the ambience is comfortable and well laid out. There truly is something for everyone here.

This place is affably plucky, unpretentious, welcoming, whimsical, unique.
Outlander gets all the adjectives since they’ve already taken the nouns and made beer out of them.
Crickets? Peanut Butter? Horny Goat Weed? Cardamom? All key beer ingredients for at least one Outlander brew.
At this rate, it’s only a matter of time before they start adding their patrons to their recipes.
Honestly, though, this place is delightful and genuinely good in so many ways. Grab a beer, bring a board game, pick your favorite weird chair, stay for hours. There’s a very organic sort of hospitality that this place creates — it’s mad scientist meets epicurian meets tech meets startup meets community, and it works so well.

Sure, this place reminds me of the basement of a frat house crossed with a British nana’s crumbling Victorian, but the beer is interesting and pretty good.
There’s always an interesting selection on tap, that changes frequently. The peanut butter stout was certainly a stand out, as well as a peach sour, and a Belgian strong. Tasters were really affordable (something like $ 2 for a generous pour) as well.
Ample seating, good service, and laid back crowd.

They ran out of the peanut butter stout which is what we came here for! Oh, well. Still had a fun time playing Taboo with my friends. Great place to hang out with friends over some beer and games :)

I fucking love this place. Owners are super nice and you can actually talk to your friends here. Beers are always amazing and never the same. They brew more unique beers per year than anyone else on the west coast! Drink it up!

I love Outlander so much– it makes me sad to see some negative reviews on here!
Outlander was one of the first places I explored when I moved to Fremont. I think my favorite part about it is how friendly and welcoming everyone is. I travel a lot for work, and try to make it to Outlander as often as possible when I’m in town. Every time I walk in, I’m greeted with a smile, and always get asked about my travels and where I’ve been. Based on my job and how often I’m out of town, I’ll never truly be a ‘regular’ anywhere– but coming here always makes me feel like I’m at home!
Beer: Apparently some people don’t like the unique and exciting beers they offer here. Even the beers that I’ve tried here that I don’t love, I at least appreciate that they’re new, unique, and exciting and don’t taste like every other boring beer you can pick up at Safeway. There really is something on the menu for everyone! And they’re constantly brewing new things which always makes it interesting.
Location: Can’t be beat. It’s in a perfect area on 36^th street. The house, décor, and setup honestly make you feel like you’re at home– or a friend’s home. And that’s great. Everyone is always welcome! And the outdoor seating in the summer cannot be beat.
Food: I really like it! They don’t offer huge or substantial meals, but there is something on the menu for everyone.

The owners Nigel and Dragan are amazing human beings! I celebrated my birthday here and been there many times before. Great beer options. My favorite so far is the pumpkin beer they do in October with an excellent balance of spices and pumpkin flavor. The last one I tried is the peanut butter stout… yummy! They have some tapas and is the best place to enjoy a good time with friends. Totally recommended!

Outlander gets a 1 star for it’s good location and unique atmosphere. The beer portion however is downright terrible. I don’t enjoy writing this but I feel I need to warn other beer drinkers and connoisseurs so that they know to avoid this place at all cost.
I tried the Peanut Butter Stout & the POG IPA. Both beers were just flat with a very thin taste. The stout had a weird artificial sweetener taste and the IPA was way off base (as in chemical, or unclean, or something).
I’m actually baffled by all the great reviews by others. Maybe I was there on an off night, but honestly I would rather drink a PBR from the can than to have another Outland Brewery beer. If you’re looking for some good suds then go to Fremont Brewing, Brouwer’s, or any other of the multitude of options available in the area.

Very solid brewery in an awesome space. Envision a brewery making tasty brews in an old house that once was a coffeehouse. That’s Outlander.
I sadly missed out on some incredible sounding beers such as a peanut butter stout and some big boys being released in the coming weeks, but what I had was still solid. Their chili beer was surprisingly good (I usually do not like this style), and the wheat was as one would hope — wheaty and perfect for the arrival of summer. I believe I had a dark coffee beer of some sort that was also quite good.
Some unique and quality beers with a great relaxing space. I’d be here frequently if I lived in Seattle.
