I can’t say enough nice things about Mountain to Sound Outfitters. Recently, I had the option of getting crossbars and a rack put on my car by a big box retailer or go local to Mountain To Sound. I was going to Stevens Pass on Friday and needed to have the work done on Thursday — I left my last meeting during the day and showed up about an hour before close. Hannah, Quentin, and Dave were able to help me out expediently and professionally. They didn’t have enough time to put the rack on perfectly flush since it was one hour before close, but advised that they come back when they were less busy and had a bit more time. They gave me an excellent deal on a rack — I was on the fence about it, but very happy with the decision in hindsight.
I’m hoping that their guarantee lives up to REI’s, but I’m confident that with the service I received there, they’ll do a great job on service.
I’ll probably be going here to buy the other stuff I need in the future instead of fighting the crowds at the ‘flagship’ downtown.

#Totalfail. Brought my daughter in for boot rentals, she tried on boots, had her bindings adjusted to the boots, we signed the waiver and rental agreements, and were told to come back on Friday to pick them up. Just came back to pick up the boots and they didn’t have them any longer. Was told «maybe these other boots will fit?, can you bring your daughter and skis back in?» My response was «Then why did we go through all the trouble of getting fitted and filing out the paperwork if you just rented the equipment to somebody else?» The response was «To speed up the process. We were really busy yesterday».
Yeah, no thank you. We’ll be happy to take our business elsewhere and rent in Canada where they not only know how to take a reservation, they know how to keep one.

Helped me with a boot fit. Very professional and friendly. Took the time to go through it all even when busy. Boots now fit great, highly recommended! Will be buying ski gear here in the future.

Terrific local ski and snowboard shop that everyone in West Seattle and beyond should visit. They put service first and are genuinely concerned with making sure you leave their shop with the right gear for your needs.
The shop is funky and crammed with gear, just like a snow shop should be! Everyone at the shop is super friendly and will really work with you to find gear, or just let you browse while you check out the killer graphics on the LibTech boards!
We recently outfitted my wife and son with some new ski gear and Greg went above and beyond to make sure we would get our gear in time for our ski trip the next day. He went so far as to deliver the tuned up gear to our house since we were out. Now that’s service! Safe to say, we are customers for life!

Greg is the owner, super nice guy. I do think some of the employees must not use a telephone very often as they do suck at speaking on the phone.
Cool, little, local shop though. Get your snowboard/​skis waxed there because you know they need to be waxed more often than you wax them. Full tunes and binding mounts also.

They seem annoyed answering questions on the phone, doubt I’ll waste anymore time with this shop.

Such a great bunch of people work here, everyone is always happy, friendly, and helpful. And you can’t beat the sale prices!!!

Our family got us skis for our wedding at REI. So I went to REI to get ski boots and bindings. As much as I appreciate REI as the best of the big-​box retailers, I was extremely disappointed during two trips to two different stores to source boots and gear.
Long story, but we ended up buying at a local ski shop in Bellingham. After that, we came home to West Seattle and went to M2S to have our bindings mounted. We worked with Angela.
Let me just say this: If you have no idea what the hell you are doing on skis or are just started out, don’t mess with other places: just go see Angela. She was AMAZING.
She answered every single stupid question I had, took tons of time to hook us up with gloves, long underwear, a jacket, and even helped my partner try on boots to validate the purchase decision he made in Bellingham (which, both Angela and the Bellingham local shop recommended the same boot, whereas the REI outfitters were pretty much useless.)
Her knowledge of gear is incredible, the store has a great selection, and you’ll get service that will — I was going to say knock your socks off, but instead I’ll say — make sure you’re wearing the right socks!!!
This will be my no go-​to place for recreation equipment. No question.

These folks are the real deal! I have a hard to fit foot and exceeded my wildest expectations. I am able to put my boots on in the morning and they stay on until the sun goes down (unless i decide to night ski). They are über knowledgeable and real advocates of the both the mountains and the sound… which i could give them 6 stars.

I had a very unsettling experience here. I brought in two pairs of skis (one AT set up one set of downhill) for a tune up on a Tuesday morning; I took the skis to the counter on the service side, filled out my paperwork. I asked about having my ski’s back by Friday mid-​afternoon, as depending on how the weather shaped up for the week was going to determine my weekend plans — whether I chose to stay local and ski, or travel elsewhere for a weekend ski trip. I was told that with a Tuesday drop off, a Friday early afternoon pick up would not be a problem.
I stopped at the retail desk and spoke with Nate about after-​market boot liners, while he didn’t have any in my size, he did offer to order what I was looking for — since I prefer to support small business in my area, that seemed like a good option. I put a deposit on the liners, and Nate said it was possible that the liners would be in on Friday, and that I should plan on about 40 minutes to have them molded. I would be in on Friday anyway to pick up my skis, if I was lucky enough that liners came on Friday, I could be picking up everything at once.
I got a call from a female at M2S on Friday afternoon, to let me know that my liners were in. I asked to see if my ski were done as well. She assured me anything dropped off on Tuesday would be done, but something didn’t sound right. I asked her to please check, she was very polite, and put me on hold for moment while she went to check. When she came back on the line, she informed me my skis would be finished on Sunday. When I questioned why my skis were not done, she put me on hold and put Nate on the line. Nate informed me I asked to not pick up the skis until Sunday, which is not true. He was rather rude, insisting that this was at my request. I told him that absolutely was not true, I would have no reason to want to pick skis up on Sunday if my intent was to ski this weekend, which is why I brought the skis in on Tuesday. He abruptly informed me he would «drop everything» and have my skis done in two hours. (About 5:15 pm). His demeanor during that conversation was extremely discourteous.
I picked up my ski’s that evening — there were 6 people in the store, only one of which was a customer at the retail counter making a purchase. The female at the retail counter was perfectly polite, but basically she got my skis, my liners and took my money and informed I could call her back another time to schedule the fitting. She did not want to make the appointment at that time. It was very obvious she was hustling me out.
This was not my first visit to M2S. My husband and I have brought our ski’s here for service in the past, and we have made purchases here in the past. However, I will not be returning ever again. I will pay to get the liners molded elsewhere. The employees here have made it clear that my business is not of any value to them. I am not upset about the miscommunication on the pickup for the skis, as the weekend weather has shaped up as a non-​ski weekend, but I will not frequent a business where it is acceptable for the employees to treat a customer with that level of disrespect.

I had a great experience buying a kayak from Angela. She was very helpful and knowledgeable. I highly recommend M2S Outfitters. Such a great place to have in our West Seattle neighborhood.

The wife and I stopped in 20 minutes before closing on a Saturday to checkout some kayaks we were hoping to try out for fit and feel and the guys there were great the whole time. Nate and Cameron never made us feel rushed despite it being closing time on a Saturday. In fact, they helped readjust my FJ’s roof racks to mount the Thule kayak braces I bought to transport both of the Hurricane Excursion 128’s we ended up buying (on sale by the way). We walked through all of the mounting instructions for the kayaks themselves and they seemed genuinely interested in our education and ongoing enjoyment of the new boats we were hauling home. In the end, they stayed nearly an hour after closing to help us get situated with our new purchase all the while being friendly, conversational and informative on what we were buying.
Overall, we’re extremely pleased with this shop and will certainly be coming back for any accessories or watersport needs. We highly advise anyone interested in any of the products they offer to stop on by and check the place out. It’s a gem and a good example of the dying art great customer service.

I’m a big promoter of buying from local businesses and with retailers like Mountain to Sound Outfitters, it’s easy to do!
I was planning for a trip (the day before the trip, of course) and was wanting to figure out how to get a storage container I had purchased on my Volvo. I stopped in and the staff at Mountain to Sound really took time to help me walk through some options. I had no idea of the different types of equipment I could use. In the end, I was able to find the right equipment for my vehicle. While the store didn’t have time to install it, the staff did take the time to walk me through really every step that I would need to go through in order to install the equipment. Everything went smoothly and I was ready to go in a couple hours.
I did find the prices at Mountain to Sound to be really competitive, even to online. While I’m sure you could save a few dollars going to some online store, you couldn’t get the convenience of the neighborhood location and help of the knowledgeable staff. They carry Thule, which seems like some great quality stuff. I haven’t really owned any other racks, but was pretty impressed with the looks and design as I installed my stuff. They have a good return policy and it’s really clearly stated on the receipt, it was 10 days for the equipment I bought, full return. I was really pretty happy overall and felt like I received a great value.
The store itself is located right on Alaska St and there’s not a lot or anything, so parking on the street is pretty easy. They’ve got a nice little store with roller blades, skis, snowboards, skateboards, sunglasses, kayaks, inflatables and some other stuff that I didn’t have an opportunity to check out.

I live in Victoria, BC and just purchased two stand up paddle boards from this fantastic Seattle company. I contacted several Washington state companies and M2S was the only company that had the customer service to get Pau Hana boards and deliver to Canada. Angela and Liz have been very attentive during the long distance transaction. They have made this whole purchase very comfortable and easy.

Called the store today to find out if they had the items I needed in stock. Angela answered the phone and was very helpful with getting the prices, availability as well as any recommendations of products. SHE WAS AWESOME. I came to the store to pick up the skates that I asked her to put aside and possibly get a set for my wife. She spent all the time needed to make sure my daughter’s skates fit properly and explained why she recommends these ones and did the same thing with the skates for my wife. My wife was at work, but with Angela’s help my wife now has awesome skates that fit her. My daughter loved how much attention she received and how she was treated. The store is awesome and Angela has acquired a customer for life. I’m so happy I found this place. Thank you for awesome help you have us.

Great place to buy a used kayak. Their repair service is also very good. Friendly service. Selection adequate. Overall highly recommended.

I had one of the worst retail experiences of my life here a few weeks ago.
I took my snowboard in to get it waxed and the edges sharpened. When I got it back one of my bindings was loose and the other had the toe pad ripped off. I went in and had them look around the shop floor for the piece that ripped off. They couldn’t find it. They looked for a similar piece on some of their other bindings with no luck. The tech (didn’t catch his name) found a pair of used bindings behind the counter and said he would swap mine out for those. I really just wanted to keep the bindings that I was used to, but since they would have to order this replacement part and it would not be here for my trip, I decided this was acceptable. I was on my lunch break and he said he would have them swapped out and I could pick it up after work. I was leaving the next day for a weekend ski trip.
When I came back after work the board was still sitting there with my original bindings on it. The nice tech was no longer there. Frank, a different tech, said «I don’t believe you. This could not have happened in our shop, the person who did the edges would have said something. I think you are lying.» I was completely taken aback. He said this in front of another worker (Scott) and a mother and 3 small children. He was thinking that I was trying to scam some new bindings. All I wanted was my old bindings in the condition that they arrived in their shop. I did not want to waste precious time on the slopes tweaking a new binding system.
At this time, Frank went into the other room to talk with some of his friends that were in the shop. Scott continued to help me. Scott was very nice through this whole ordeal and apologized on behalf of Frank and said he could not believe he said that and that it made him cringe. Scott said he would make it right and tried to sell me the bindings that the original Tech was going to put on my board for $ 40. I did a quick google search for those bindings and they were womens bindings. They didn’t fit my large size 13 boot very well. I declined. Scott then offered a demo board for the weekend. I agreed and he started to set it up for me. Scott then got pulled away to help another customer and he asked Frank to come help me. Frank screwed in one screw and was talking with his friend, after he finished that screw he just stood up and walked away while the other binding was still flipped to regular stance (I’m goofy). I had been in there for an hour plus and I was so fed up I just grabbed my board and walked out.
I can’t prove that the piece broke off in their shop and they can’t prove that it didn’t. Regardless, The way Frank treated me is totally unacceptable.

Yep, still using that board, and haven’t found any defects or had any regrets from buying from them.

If you like outdoor sports at all, this is the place for you. Rent or own, they have it all. And if you don’t like outdoor sports… well, why the heck are you in the NW?!
I popped in to check out the gear and was surprised to see the variety they had. Everything from skateboards and long boards to paddle boards, to kayaks and oars, and even roller blades, clothing, snowboards and skis! Holy crap, I’m in love.
If you can’t commit to a $ 3000 kayak you can rent them. Same with the other equipment. Everything is in great shape and the owner is a true outdoors man. I can’t wait to go kayaking in The Sound with these guys!
