The Grove West Seattle Inn

I haven’t been yet but I am already a fan of this place. Not only is it reasonably priced, but when I realized this afternoon I had made a mistake in my booking last week, I called and asked if I could change the date. And he just… did it. No fees, no hassle, just a quickie date change and new confirmation email in about one minute of time.
Looking forward to spending New Year’s here!

First let me say that I like motels. I prefer motels to hotels — I love to be able to drive right up to my room, and have a door and window that open for fresh air and light. I also like not spending $ 200+/night for a place that feels closed in and stuffy. And, The Grove provides all this and more. Our room was on the quiet side of the motel on 36^th Street (I imagine the rooms facing Alaska Street are noisier) and it was clean, well-​appointed and had everything we needed. Free parking, free wifi and our room with one Q bed was $ 109/​night. The staff was friendly, the bed was comfortable and the modest free breakfast (bagels, english muffins, cereal, oatmeal, yoghurt, coffee & juice) was appreciated too. If you’re looking for a safe, clean and affordable place to stay in West Seattle — I recommend you check out The Grove!

I absolutely love the service provided by The Grove! I got married in West Seattle and recommended The Grove to all of my guests, who loved it as well. I stayed at The Grove the night before my wedding in the suite and there was plenty of room to hang out with friends. The staff were excellent in all of the planning beforehand and even let me use the conference room to get ready.

The Grove is a fine place if all you need is a clean place to sleep in West Seattle. They’ve done a good job of upgrading and it’s well maintained; it just seems like they forgot a few furnishings. Another chair in the room, a couple more pillows — that would have made a difference. But you’re not paying 5 star prices so just relax and try and ignore the firehouse a few doors away!

We needed a hotel for a one night stay in Seattle on our way to Vancouver. Found this hotel on trip advisor. It’s clean and inexpensive for Seattle hotels (located in West Seattle about 15mins from downtown). You couldn’t find a better hotel in such a nice area.
It is right on a busy street so there was a lot of traffic noise (though the noise quieted down at night) and the walls are really thin so we could hear our neighbors. But they offer free wifi, free breakfast until 10am, free parking (though parking early because the parking lot fills up and you may have to park on the street), a mini fridge and coffee maker in the room, and it’s really close to bus lines that’ll take you to downtown Seattle or a quick drive (personal car or über/​Lyft) to Alki Beach. I would definitely stay here again for a good place to drop your things and explore an incredible city.
West Seattle is a great place to stay if you’re looking to be close to downtown without having to deal with being in the center of the city and paying city hotel prices!

Solid! Older building, but newly renovated inside with great features. Rooms have a mini fridge and coffe maker, etc. Free parking, good wifi and nice staff. A few blocks away from downtown West Seatle — Safeway, Trader Joes, coffee shops, cafes. Easy drive to downtown Seattle. I would definitely stay here again!

Overall, if we needed to we would stay again. We would just bring something comfortable to lay on the bed.

I am giving it four stars because it was clean, free wi-​fi, easy parking. Free breakfast all for $ 110 a night. It’s not a luxury hotel but if you need a place to crash, it was perfectly fine. I would stay here again. Also liked it was close to a drug store and Trader Joes if you need supplies.

We stay here a couple of times yearly. We have family in the area whose house is too small for guests; we are past sleeping bags on the floor.
Our one recurring complaint about this place is we usually have only one light in the room. We both read before going to bed. Thus, we always have to ask for a light for the other side of the bed. The staff is normally able to accommodate us.
Last night, we asked about a light in the late afternoon. When we returned after dinner, the light had not been provided. We asked the night staff and got crummy, unhelpful service that I will describe as crummy, but bordered on nasty. They had no understanding that as we age, our eyes get weaker and we need a bit more light to read. Perhaps they were just uneducated. They were not helpful and had no concept of service.
Without a remedy we grabbed a standing light from the lobby.
I am not sure if this is also a recurring problem, but their internet connection is so slow that my iPad never catches up. My room is just above the lobby. In this day and age, and particularly in a sophisticated city light Seattle, a poor wifi is inexcusable.
Between the poor service and the poor wifi, I will need to consider if we will return.

I don’t think this is a four-​star property by any stretch, but the value is exceptional and I have no complaints about our stay.
In town for a wedding and this was one of the recommended hotel options. Not super fancy, definitely not downtown — but it’s an easy drive to the city, the rooms are clean, the wifi works, there is free breakfast, and parking is free.

Had a conference downtown but all the decent hotels in my price range were booked. Had a choice between a really sketchy-​looking hotel downtown and Grove, and boy am I glad I chose this place.
It looks a little sad on the outside but is clean and modern inside. The neighborhood seems safe enough to walk around even at night, though I think I’d feel uncomfortable by myself if I were out past midnight or so. There is free and functional wifi. There are bus lines close by that will take you directly downtown. Plenty of food options and groceries are within walking distance. And I went for a run to the ocean (hilly but pretty).
I would definitely stay here again, especially since hotels downtown are so expensive and this is an easy bus ride away.

Stayed here for a soccer tournament in the area. Room small but good for the price for the area I suppose. Road noise is HUGE. If your not accustomed to it (like me), you’ll notice it. Light breakfast was nice.

This felt more like a fancy motel/​inn. Very clean, basic, no frills, free wi-​fi, TV and for the most part pretty quiet. It’s about an 8 – 10 minute walk to the main strip on California Ave SW and a 15 min drive to downtown Seattle so it’s a very convenient location. The small fridge in our room made a weird rattling noise so I unplugged it at night. I was worried that the room was going to be cold especially at night but the heat quickly warmed the room so it was perfectly cozy. We stayed around Thanksgiving and the room rate was about $ 99/​night so decently priced. All in all a good experience.

Its a good option, really the only option in West Seattle. We had our wedding at SAA, many of our guests stayed here. We stayed in the suite. We didn’t hear anything negative from our guests, but they wouldn’t let us reserve rooms for them without paying ourselves.
Good rates, Free wifi, good location to walk to few nice restaurants. Short drive to SAA and the rest of west seattle.

Loved this place and enjoyed my stay! Great location — walking distance to shops restaurants beach view points; 10 – 15 mins drive to downtown. Can’t beat the price for such nice interior bedding bathroom etc. Staff there were super friendly — some were so fun to talk to :) seriously, I think staying in West Seattle (love the neighborhood n local scene) is at least 100 times better than staying in downtown — Seattle downtown is annoying!

Every motel, hotel, and inn are booked up this weekend except for this one. This place is very safe, friendly, modern, and super super super clean. I will MAKE SURE I stay here next time I come. We ended up getting the bunk bed room because it was $ 30 cheaper than getting a queen bed room. We got our room for $ 89.99 plus tax, not bad at all especially for this location & check out isn’t till 12. And, I don’t know what everyone else is talking about the wifi works, I’m using it right now! (Password:applegrove). Thank you Brandon at the front desk, for friendly service and telling us about the bunk bed room!

This place was perfectly located for visiting the Seattle area. Reasonable priced, clean rooms, free wi-​fi, free breakfast in the mornings if you need it. Super friendly and knowledgeable staff. In a pretty quiet area but safe, great for going on a morning run. We stayed here five days and never once had an issue with anything.
For getting around, it’s close to the bus stop that takes you to downtown Seattle or the water taxi. If you have a car, you’re just a few minutes from the West Seattle Bridge. Within walking distance of two groceries, a hospital, a gym, a yoga place, diners, record shops and other amenities for the longer-​term traveler. We picked this place pretty much at random but so glad we did. We will come here again and recommend to all our friends who travel to the Seattle area! I’m giving it 5 stars because it is worth that considering the price. It’s not fancy, but it’s practical and perfectly suited for frequent travelers like us.

Typically I wouldn’t give a hotel like this 4 stars. However, this is the only hotel in West Seattle and the owners have done a fabulous job of cleaning it up. The rooms are clean. Many parts of the hotel have direct outdoor access. If you prefer a more secure option, get the deluxe room (inside doors.) The hotel is still on a fairly busy street, and they have trouble keeping the loud kids out of the parking lot. Otherwise, this is a good deal for your money.

For the price and the fact that they allow pets, this place is great. My husband and I stayed here in early January.
The room was very thoughtfully decorated and put together. It had the style and flair you’d expect from somewhere a lot more expensive. It was also very clean, and the staff were very courteous. When we ended up getting a flat tire on our way to Seattle and needing to cancel one night of our reservation, it was no problem, and they didn’t charge us for it. They also offer free wi-​fi, mini-​fridges, and continental breakfast. (A much costlier place that we stayed at in Seattle had no breakfast, no fridges, and charged daily for wi-​fi.)
The biggest downside was the traffic noise. The windows are thin and not well insulated, so they sound like they’re open, even when they’re not. (They also let heat out easily.) Traffic going by was pretty audible. The only other problem was that our TV was having trouble with certain channels for some reason. It was hit or miss.
Because traffic noise doesn’t bother me too much, and I don’t watch a lot of TV, the downsides weren’t deal breakers. It was also really, really important to me that they allowed pets.
I live in Seattle now, so I wouldn’t need a room anymore, but if someone I knew needed one, I would definitely recommend The Grove.

How many stars for a hotel? How to compare? For $ 109/​night, this would be waaay overpriced in Clear Lake City, TX. In Washington DC, an incredible bargain. And in this end of Seattle? Who knows? I’ll call it 3 stars, trending towards 4. Considering the price and location.
They finished a makeover just 6 weeks ago. They’re still ironing some of the kinks out. I stayed 3 nights (Fri — Sun.) They have done an attractive makeover of what had never been a luxury room. Somebody with a flair for decorating had done a clever job, but without a great budget.
Beds were comfortable and the bedding was quality. Lighting wasn’t quite adequate. The bathroom had no shelving; the towels were all stacked on the back of the toilet tank. Someone had torn the towel bar out, leaving a ragged hole in wall, unfixed. I reported it Sat morning, but their maintenance guy doesn’t work weekends; it didn’t get fixed. Heating and cooling were tricky to operate. There was no wastebasket in the bathroom.
Striking local artwork on the room’s walls. Desk chair was quite comfortable. But the outlets by the desk weren’t grounded and we couldn’t plug our laptops in there. The free wi-​fi signal was so low as to be unusable; the front-​desk guy said that, although there’s a wireless router close to my room, he had no way to tell when it went offline. The Continental breakfast was all cold, hi carb, and had no protein.
The front desk guy seemed genuinely concerned about the problems, logging them and promising to get management to address them. He gave me a decent apology, which matters a lot.
I’d stay here again, especially as there’s really not many other choices close to my sister’s house. Next time, though, I’d get a room that opened on the interior court, rather than facing Alaska Ave. Less traffic noise.
