Single handedly the best sandwich place i have ever been to. The porchetta sandwich was simply decadent. The tenderness of the meat coupled with the crispyness of the skin was so amazing. I wish it wasn’t so expensive but for a once in a lifetime sandwich this was just unbeatable as a sandwich shop.

Maybe my expectations were inflated because I heard this place was a ‘must try’ sandwich establishment. But upon walking in, the place looked great. clean and very orderly. On the board, the daily special had changed to their Beef Brisket, so I figured I’d give that a try. For a place that specialized in sandwiches, the only good part of the sandwich was the bread. The brisket that came in the sandwich was way too salty. Tender, but anyone can make tender brisket if you cook it long enough. You have to get the right flavors, and this was overwhelmed by salt. I don’t know why they’d add even more salty kimchee, which was also really bad kimchee, to make this almost inedible. I am sure they must have other sandwiches which are very good, however this was a great disappointment. Would I give it another chance… first impressions are very hard to get past.

Great meeting spot for work or friends, along one of the easier places to park in Cap Hill. Meat & Bread was suggested by a friend who tried it first in Canada, and is now having locations pop up in the States. They serve sandwiches and salads, beer, wine(Kung Fu Girl Riesling, what!) and their menu changes daily(check online based on location). I had the Porchetta which was the best voted in our table because of the crackling texture, and I’d say the Korean Meatloaf took second place to the meatball(the lemon basil aioli wasn’t as bright as hoped for), finally the $ 5 grilled cheese rounded things up. Hipsterish and woody come to mind when describing this very good lunch spot.

Currently in a weird purgatory sort of area of Cap/First Hill that has a mixture of derelict buildings and old warehouses being converted into expensive flashy condos and trendy overpriced eateries. Meat & Bread! They serve meat and bread here. The employees are super friendly and hip as hell. The prices may be a little high, but really not much different than a lot of the alternatives in the area. You can justify it by knowing that the meat used is all farm raised organic blah blah blah. You also know it’s the real deal as they will often«sell out» of a particular sandwich. Meaning, they only make a certain amount, assuring its freshness and tastiness. They have a different sandwich daily, and the go to porchetta and meatball among just a few other salad type of items. The food here is dope, guys. Dope. They also have organic sodas and beverages that are overpriced, albeit quenching. The interior is pretty slick, I must say. It’s got that modern, sterile, cold sort of feel. A large airy empty space with sleek tables and a ridiculously fancy water dispenser where you get water. It took me five seconds too long to figure out how it even worked. Very cool space. Don’t venture up the staircase or you’ll get scolded. One of the chairs is reserved for Kanye. so I would encourage anyone to sit there just to piss him off.

Wow… This place is special. Lives up to all the hype and then some. When you first walk in you are welcomed to a nice clean open space that just feels and looks cool. I wish more restaurants were set up like this. Then you get up to the counter and you feel like you’ve entered the gates of sandwich heaven and the sandwich maker is going to say«We’ve been waiting for you…» We tried the porchetta and the spicy meatball. That porchetta is as good advertised. The pork is unbelievably tender, seasoned perfectly, and then the cracklings put it over the top. Reminds me of Chinese roast pork with the crispy skin but taste x10. Don’t sleep on the mustard either. It’s a perfect compliment to the sandwich. Make sure to dip liberally! The meatball sandwich was fantastic as well. Very flavorful and you can tell they are made fresh. Perfect amount of spice. They have one special sandwich a day and next time we will try for sure. Great job, and another reason Capitol Hill is fast becoming a destination for GREAT bites.

Came here for one thing and one thing only. The porchetta. It was divine! I appreciated how they chopped the meat and cracklings before filling the sandwich so it would be more manageable for the eater. Every bite was a perfect mélange of the fillings. This was a complete sandwich for me with the salsa verde pulling everything together. It was pure bliss to enjoy. I’m so glad Seattle has a Meat & Bread outpost as I could never manage to visit the shops in Vancouver. The space is large and airy with plenty of room for groups. If you’re really into their mustards or sauces, they are now available for purchase by the jar.

I was excited to come here to try their Canadian(Yes, Vancouver BC) Porchetta sandwich $ 10. Came here once at 3:45pm on a summer Saturday afternoon. No lines, still excited, until I looked up at their large black menu board and saw«sold out» next to the Porchetta. Was not mad, but I walked out slowly. Well I finally got over it, and went back on a moist Saturday afternoon, at around 2:30pm this time. No lines, no sold out sign, and I see meat and bread on the cutting board. «Porchetta please» I said to the chef. He cuts up the tender, juicy pork(similar to pork belly, fatty meaty goodness) and the crispy cracklings. And Salsa Verde on the top! Sandwich is set on a piece of wax paper with a squirt of yellow mustard over on a cutting board. This is a good size sandwich. And it is amazing. The texture is great. The flavor is out of bounds. My friend and I both loved the place. The No-Li beers was also really good(the only beer option that day). Solid spot for lunch on the hill. Just make sure you don’t come here at the end of the day. Cheerios.

Carbivores rejoice! Stunning space to celebrate two ruling food groups — airy, beautiful natural lighting with tall ceilings. Outstanding pork shoulder(daily special) — ultra tender, juicy without being overly messy. Grateful for the store recommending this, as Meat & Bread’s daily specials are still being tested and rarely repeated. The porchetta is a classic porchetta(sliced round) vs. the sopping glory at Salumi, or the crumbly drier(but not dry) version at Rain Shadow Meats. While not dripping in juice, Meat & Bread’s porchetta stood on its own and was juicy, dressed with salsa verde and cracklins. Liked the interesting texture which added a nice dimension to the sandwich. Get a side of meatball, you won’t regret.

Meat & Bread. Very simple and modest name to encapsulate their sandwiches and food. Buuut… if I could also use adjectives to describe them, it’d include: delicious, flavorful, zesty, unique, fresh, amazing, juicy, simple yet complex… I could go on. British Columbia’s widely popular sandwich joint has opened up shop in our very own Capitol Hill earlier this year, and provides the same four-sandwich-a-day rotating menu as its Canadian counterparts. The Gastown location was even featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, and is Guy Fieri-approved(which can be a good or bad thing… depending who you ask). SANDWICHES Each day the menu features the three classics– porchetta(pronounced pork-etta), grilled cheese and meatball sandwiches — and a rotating daily special, soup and salad. You MUST try the porchetta sandwich at least ONCE; I mean the slab of stuffed pork is staring you right in the face when you enter, how can you not. This tender and juicy pork sandwich comes with crunchy cracklings, salsa verde and a tangy mustard sauce on the side, and pairs well with a Fentiman’s Rose Lemonade(bottled; when available). As for rotating specials, I’ve so far enjoyed a gochujang pork belly sandwich with kimchi, sesame apple tartar and pea vines, and a pork shoulder arrabbiata with giardiniera and bacon oregano aioli. It’s not often that a place’s daily special makes it hard for you to choose it over their classic sandwich — but this place gets me every time with their inventive menu. AMBIENCE The space is reminiscent of the M&B in Vancouver — very simple, modern but with more seating space. Make sure to look out for the gold-colored«Reserved for Kanye» chair! So far I’ve visited this place three times in the past month, and am excited to watch it grow in the Seattle scene. Definitely a favorite of mine, and a convenient, must-try foodie destination for local and out of towners.

Holy crap are these sandwiches delicious! They are also on the larger size, which means more of the deliciousness to enjoy and a great value for the price. My husband and I split the meatball sandwich(large, yummy meatballs) and the day’s special(barbacoa brisket). I can’t choose a favorite because both were so good. The dipping sauces they came with had a really great flavor too. Our total came to about $ 21, which, again, was definitely worth it because they were so good and so filling. The staff was friendly and chatty. The space is quite large and open. Lots of seating. We easily found metered parking out front and there was no line at 1pm on a Friday.

Here’s an embarrassing confession: I check the Meat & Bread twitter daily to see what their special is before I eat lunch. I’m so impressed with them because it changes EVERY single day. The only daily special I tried was amazing and I’m bummed because I can’t have it again :( Their regular menu consists of a porchetta sandwich, a meatball sub, and the daily special. So simple! I had the porchetta and it was delectable. The bread was chewy, meat was tender, crispy bits of goodness sprinkled in there, and a glop of mustard on the side that completes the sandwich(and my life). My only complaint is that the meat is pretty oily to the point where it’s dripping down your hand. I sacrifice looking decently put together for this sandwich. My only complaint is that they don’t automatically include mustard in to go orders. Now you know.

I really, really wanted to love you, Meat & Bread. I’m slightly embarrassed to say this, but after seeing how happily everyone’s favorite food personality, Guy Fieri, bit into the porchetta sandwich at Meat & Bread in Vancouver on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, I knew I would have to get my hands on that same sandwich. I didn’t go all the way up to Vancouver for the sandwich — instead, I *fortuitously* stumbled upon the Seattle location of Meat & Bread while shopping around for apartments in the area. Now, here’s where my rating gets a little harsh — I had extremely high expectations coming into this shop. I expected to see the pig they got their porchetta from on the cutting board as I walked in. I expected to see a tomato garden inside their kitchen — the chef plucking off tomatoes for the salsa verde. I expected Meat & Bread to serve me the most perfect sandwich on the face of this planet — I had unfair and unrealistic expectations. Of course I ordered their porchetta sandwich with salsa verde, since that was the very sandwich that the angelic Guy Fieri blessed with his mouth. I also got a side of their chilled pea soup and kidney bean salad. As you probably guessed, reader, the sandwich did not meet my expectations. I’ll give you two versions of what I thought about it: If I had lower expectations… It was a pretty good sandwich. The porchetta was good and the cracklings were tasty and gave the overall sandwich a nice crunch. The salsa verde was a great sauce to go with the porchetta. The bread was great quality too. My current expectations… It was a decent sandwich. The porchetta was good but slightly dry — I wish there was a little more moisture. I liked the texture of the cracklings but some were a little too hard. I could have had more salsa verde in the sandwich. The bread was definitely fresh, but a little harder that I tend to like. So take your pick of which review to go off of. Even after this, I’m not giving up on Meat & Bread. I think that the original shop might be just a tad better, so yes — I will be taking a trip up to Vancouver one of these days just to see if my hypothesis is correct. Keep your eyes peeled for that review!

First time here and I got the meatball sandwich. It is huge! Three big meatballs, arugula, pecorino and some incredible aioli. My only complaint was that it’s just physically impossible to take a bite unless your mouth can open 8 inches. But so it goes, it’s a sloppy sandwich. The aioli was a great touch. And there was mustard on the side. I got a side salad which was Farro and peaches — incredible. A beautifully renovated ware space/vibe. A simple menu. This place is a win. One last thing I really wanted a pickle. Maybe they’ll get a giant jar or something as an add-on? It is after all a sandwich shop. :)

Finally got to come here. Came in around 3pm which is kind of an odd time so we avoided the lunch crowd. The space is incredibly open. Their menu is very straightforward, they have the porchetta, meatball sub, grilled cheese and their daily special as their 4 sandwiches. I got the porchetta because it’s what they’re known for. The porchetta sandwich came with cracklings and salsa verde. The meat itself was roasted really well and not dry at all. The cracklings in my opinion is what set this sandwich apart from others. They are still very crisp so they add another element to the sandwich. I felt that the salsa verde didn’t really add much to the sandwich itself because I couldn’t really taste it even though I saw it. Definitely a solid sandwich spot and will definitely see what their daily special is next time and try it.

What an ace spot. This place is a must go. I’ve never had better meat in a sandwhich anywhere else. It was tender, moist, flavorful. Perfecto! A work of art! We got the porchetta(pronounced porketta(tryna save some peeps from feelin like a meat noob(like me))) and the daily special, which was pork butt, salted cabbage, pickles, and grain mustard aioli. Daily special was tangy but the flavors were spot on and well balanced. I usually don’t like pickles in my sandwiches… I pick them out and eat them separately, but I actually ate the whole thing! Tangy pickles and all! That says a lot, trust me!!! The porchetta was like an orchestral piece in your mouth. It has great depth of flavor AND texture from the tender, juicy meat and the crispy cracklings. The verde gave it a good, fresh lift so the porkness wasn’t overbearing. Also perfectly balanced. These guys know how to make sandwiches. It’s near SU… I’m sure they earned a PhD in sandwiches. The place is clean and moderny-rustic. They have great drink choices that I believe go well with the food(mm Thomas kemper root beer). Service was amazing; the ladies were helpful and the tables were never cluttered. You get to see the cooks cutting the meat right before your eyes! I actually chose to come here on my birthday because I was so excited to try it out and it did not disappoint. It was everything I expected and more. Oh what a joyous birthday; let me tell ya if you stuck a candle in this sandwich instead of an ice cream cake, I would be more than okay with that. I would blow out the candle and wish for another porchetta sandwich… Uhhhh What’s a cake?

First off, I gotta give Ryan N a shout out for putting Meat & Bread on my radar! He told me that their porchetta had bits of crispy pork skin mixed in, so I had to head right over. Its definitely a sandwich you have to try. I also tried their special of the day, which was a lamb sandwich. The meat was so tender. I wonder if they make their own bread because it’s the perfect sandwhich bread that holds well to oils and sauces. The place is very spacious and I had to issues with finding a spot to enjoy my sandwich. If you order your sandwich to go, they put their sandwiches in nice boxes. I really love the designs on it. I could write more about Meat and Bread but honestly, just go. You’ll be happy you did.

WOW!!! In a bold move, this Canadian invader has taken over the title of Best Sandwich in Seattle. The Porchetta is an absolute Masterpiece, the perfect combination of fat and lean roast pork with cracklings for taste and texture and a herby olive oil sauce to top it off. It comes on great bread that comes par baked from Central Baking and finished baking at Meat And Bread. The soup and salad were wonderful. The meatball sandwich, although not the traditional Italian-American formula, is never the less, wonderful. It comes with lemon basil aioli, pecorino romano cheese, and arugula. This version is my new favorite meatball sandwich in Seattle. They have plans to open a location in South Lake Union, and they are exploring invading Bellevue too. More the better for us! Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.

Meat & Bread may just be the best Canadian import to Seattle. I never had the opportunity to try M&B while in Vancouver, but after hearing all of my foodie friends rave, I knew I couldn’t miss out on the Seattle location. The establishment is hidden in First Hill/Capitol Hill near Seattle University and Swedish Hospital. I came around 1PM expecting a long line, but was one of the few people waiting to order. The interior is modernly decorated, with a large open seating area. I received spectacular service — all of the folks striked up a conversation with me while ordering! I had a hard time deciding on what to order(everything sounded delicious), but I went with the classic porchetta sandwich and a side of the broccoli caesar. The porchetta($ 10) was composed of generous helpings of meat topped with pieces of crackling(pork rind) and a salsa verde in ciabatta. The meat was moist, salty and the perfect amount of fatty, which was complimented by a tangy and slightly spicy salsa. I wasn’t blown away with the broccoli caesar($ 4) — just a basic caesar dressing on broccoli and romaine. The croutons were a little on the soggy side. Watch out Paseo, Meat & Bread coming through!

Having been a fan of Meat & Bread since eating at their Vancouver and Victoria locations, I was eager to eat a sandwich of theirs made in my very own neighborhood. And it happened today! Seattle is fortunate to have great sandwich options but there’s plenty more room for completion. In fact, Meat & Bread may have raised the bar. Their Wednesday Special was a Mexican inspired pulled pork with cotija cheese, peppers and onions. It was fresh, the bread was spectacular, and everything was portioned perfectly. I split the sandwich with my fiancé for lunch and we both smiled and wiped juice from our faces as we chowed down on a delicious lunch. A half a sandwich is just enough for one person but nearly anyone could go for it and eat the whole thing if they really wanted to. Each sandwich comes wrapped in butcher paper and packed into a cute custom Meat & Bread box. Perfect for taking good to go. The space was gorgeous, the menu simple, the food awesome, and the service was super kind and sweet. I’m already ready for multiple Seattle locations because I know this place will be packed. As it should be!

Move over, Paseo & Salumi. There’s a new sandwich shop in town. Meat & Bread might be one of the best Canadian imports to Seattle. Don’t mess with their porchetta if you’re a first-timer. They serve a variety of sandwiches, with one daily rotating special, along with soup and sides. The new space is industrial-chic, and definitely a welcome addition to the neighborhood. Excuse me while I go and eat…
