Fury – Extraordinary Women’s Consignment

Always a pleasant experience and typically there is always a great deal to be had. Well worth a visit.

I consigned at Fury for 25 years until a year and a half ago — the original owner’s daughter «Sam» took over — and she is not exactly a very nice or friendly person — my clothing *consistently* sold there (frankly b/​c I have excellent taste in clothing) — since I was *16 years old* — and my mother did as well — since 1985 or so — and she got extremely picky — «it’s too wrinkled» — crap like that — my clothing, as well as my mother’s, was in *Pristine condition* and *always sold* — and yet she would give me crap about it during the «bad economy» — she really needs to re-​think her attitude and the way she does business — she lost a *25– year customer* — I really… think that says something — and she needs to think about it if she plans to stay in business.

This is only my second time consigning with them. They are quick and to the point when selecting items that you bring to them. They’ve got a decent selection of items in their store, but I’ve never found anything that I myself wanted to purchase. Friendly staff and cute little boutique in the gorgeous Madison valley area.

Sadly, I’ve bought pieces here before, but this time the owner was on the premises. I decided that the top I’d JUST bought really didn’t fit. The overlord-​I mean owner– somehow expressed contempt, irritation, and a desire to be punitive in a couple of sentences. It would have been humiliating if it wasn’t so clearly her own prickliness. I’ll be taking my business to more cordial climes in future.

Fury comes in certainly as s store with two different things going on here. On one side you’ve got the store’s designer/​owner with her own produced line of clothing, rich in fabric choice, and on the other is a smaller section of vintage pieces mainly 50’s/60’s era.
Although I admired the high choice of fabrics on the designer’s side, I found that most of all the designs were for a more mature woman. Not a 20-​something who’s got a love of a more contemporary attire.
The vintage side had a few pieces that were lust worthy, excellent coats, furs, and one amazing orange sherbet free flowing dress that was perfection.
if you’re willing to spend a little more on your Mad Men inspired costume, like a couple hundred dollars worth, then your results will be much found than sifting through the scraps at Red Light.

My favorite consignment store for a well inventoried selection of clothing and some designer labels, all clean, in good condition and well organized. The owners and staff are helpful and professional. They have a good selection of shoes, bags and jewelry too. They’re quite picky about the clothes they’ll take on consignment and it does take awhile to get an appt. to consign.

Fury is quite the interesting spot, a little all over the place. When I stepped in the door, I was not impressed. The place is big and seemed sparsely inventoried. The racks by the door had a lot of who-​cares tops but I persevered, determined to give the place a fair shake. In about 2 more seconds I was SO glad that I did. Right there on the wall was a stunning navy and white striped dress with blazer: vintage, designer, Italian. Hey, now. With antennae fully extended, I crept in deeper. OOOOHHHHH, a vintage designer suit, deeply, deeply discounted. Then a crazy spangled leopard print skirt whose original price was $ 900. And then… a bunch of brand-​new totally bohemian garb which all came from a store that went out of business, the very friendly staff explained to me. Strange brew, but I was intrigued and followed the siren song of the back room…
At the back of the store, more designer garb, including an Oscar de la Renta khaki suit with tortoise shell buttons that begged me to try it on. I did. Yes, it looked amazing. $ 500. Sigh. Oh Oscar, I shall dream of you.
Then racks of really great regular clothes. I could have (should have) purchased at least 5 skirts. The shoe selection sports Prada and Stuart Weitzman, among the regulars. Clearly, someone has figured out how to recoup some of their designer dollars. If you love super high-​end stuff Fury is certainly worth a treasure hunting stop. Take your time and delve into the racks all the way to the back of the store where the extensive skirt and pants selection resides. I am still regretting at least one Banana Republic skirt that I didn’t snatch up.
Take the time to absorb their discount pricing structure. Price tags are hole-​punched with different shapes and the shapes mean different percentages off. The end result is a price tag with three holes punched is 75% off which puts some of that designer garb within reach. The lovely young women who work there will go out of their way to explain the system to you and make you feel completely welcome even if you aren’t going to buy that Oscar suit and are just trying it on for the thrill.

I’ve only recently discovered how much I love women’s clothing consignment shops around here. Between here and Driftwood, I’m set! Fury is much bigger than the Driftwood in Madrona. It carries a variety of labels, and I was able to find a few pieces from Marc Jacobs, Trina Turk, Vera Wang, and there were also other lower tier — but cute brands like BCBG, Banana Republic, etc. Clothes were priced accordingly, but seemed reasonable for the brand, style, and materials. If you catch them during a sale you can get some clothes up to 70% off and score some really great deals!
Parking can be a bit tricky on Madison so I tend to turn down a side street and park in the neighborhoods and walk to Fury. The SA said that they get new items everyday, because they have consignment appointments everyday where they look at around 500 items (per day!). So it’s always worth coming by to see if something new has popped in.

For people with expensive taste who don’t want to spend $ 100 to $ 3000 for one item of clothing: great clothes can be had here for $ 16-​$ 400. They specialize in Eileen Fisher, but have many other great choices for sizes 0 – 14 and more. Nice service, too, and supporting a woman-​owned business that’s been around since 1985 is a plus.

Choices are limited here but they have some great labels under their roof and some very unique cool styles. The place overall is small and long with very small side room off the back with what i can only suppose is slightly out of season wear.
Their purse and boot selection is quite ranged and their accesories (jewelery and the like) is lovely, full of unique pieces and pretty little things.
My main issue with this place is their lack of sizes which is of no fault of their own in a way since they are a consignment store and they are completely at the mercy of the people whom sell to them. So one can infer that the women in the area are slim and very fashionable. I am short with a big bum, so I rarely find things but occaisionaly a gem in the rough.
The other issues at hand that i have with this place are the prices and the sales clerks. The prices are high… a bit too high for what they are selling. Yes they are designer labels, yes they are in great condition but they are still used, people shop consignment because its affordable… not because they want to pay so much.
The sales clerks… I like them overall, they are nice and full of handy tips and tricks to matching your wardrobe but when I talked to them about how well they were dressed they said they pick through all the new arrivals before they hit hte salesfloor and pick out the cream of the crop for themselves… I am fine with that i suppose but at the same time I don’t want them broadcasting it. Just seemed unfair.

I am not impressed. The store comes across to me as pretentious and expensive. I didn’t find anything that I liked (the clothes seem meant for older women) and what I DID like was too expensive. But don’t take my word for it if you’re after designer clothes, I suppose a $ 250 large Burberry tote is a good deal, but generally I’m unaware of how much this stuff is worth. Also, there is not a good selection of Large and X-​Large sizes, and the sizes are all mixed up, which makes browsing difficult and a bit annoying. I might return one day, to see if I have a different experience.

I went in here today to scope the place out — I have lots of clothes I need to sell or give away. The store seems to have a lot of stuff. Much of it is styled more toward the middle aged woman, but they also have a big selection of jewelry, bags & shoes. The prices seem ok, especially the stuff that is marked down. I got a pair of jeans for $ 12 today! I asked about consigning and they told me the are booked for 2 months out. I have not tried consigning before, but that seems like a long time!
The service was super friendly and not snobby or intimidating at all. I will probably get rid of my stuff elsewhere, but I will definitely come back in here to check out any new selections.

I used to go here all the time when they first opened back in the 90’s. I’ve stopped in a few times lately and been really disappointed. Probably because my taste has changed. I think the target shopper there is probably in her 50’s — they have lots of Ann Taylor, Eileen Fisher, J. Jill… get the picture? Also lots of nordstrom brands like Halogen. Everything I’ve seen has been in great condition and the prices seemed fair.
They do have a good selection of accessories, and it’s always fun to try to find some cool shoes or jewelry. They also regularly mark their items down so you can usually find some good deals.

Great place for finding amazing deals. I found a skirt from Garnet Hill I had been coveting (full price $ 250) for a mere $ 30.
I just started consigning there and did have to make an appointment way in advance, but think their strict acceptance policy is justifiable. They have higher quality items than any other consignment store I have ever been to. You can tell they are picky and as a shopper, I appreciate that. As a seller, the prices they get are much higher than I expected, so I was happy… especially when I got my first check!
When setting up your account, you can choose to come back and pick up your unsold items, or have them donated. They also let you pick the charity you would like your unsold items to go to.
The one day I consigned and shopped, they were packed with people and had friendly helpful staff. I would highly recommend both consigning and shopping here.

The place is a little pretentious if you want to try and sell stuff through them but if you’re just looking to buy, you can get some pretty good deals. Given their very stringent acceptance requirements (they only took about half of what I tried to consign with them), you can feel confident you’re getting good quality clothing when you buy something.
UPDATE: They only keep stuff out for sale for 90 days. After that, if you don’t go pick them back up, whatever’s left becomes their property and they’ll keep or donate stuff as they fit. BE SURE TO write down the expiration date on your calendar if you want to go back and get the stuff! I totally spaced it and all my stuff that didn’t sell got donated… except ONE thing, which I just found out they still have for sale. Now I will say that they were very nice about letting me come and get that one item back (which they don’t technically have to do) but I don’t like the fact that if you don’t pick up your unsold stuff after 90 days they get to keep it, sell it, and not give you any money for it. There’s nothing shady about this– it’s all in the contract– but I just don’t like how it works. Maybe that’s just how all consignment stores are, the whole thing’s new to me. Don’t think I’ll bother consigning things there again, but I would still buy clothes from them.
ANOTHER UPDATE: So I went back this week to pick up the one item they said they happened to have still; turns out they found another item, so they actually gave me back two things. They were nice about it and I ended up buying something else there. Also, I discovered they have a storage shelf in the back full of old toys for kids to play with– that was great because my kid was with me and it was getting close to nap time so I needed a distraction while I tried a few things on. Again, not a place I’d probably consign with again but likely a place I’d shop again again…

Fury has fine consign clothing for women. I have found many hot dresses with big designer names for affordable prices. I had a ton of weddings to go to this past year, and I don’t know what I would have done without Fury’s great closet!

I used to frequent this place but now only stop in if parking is available right on Madison. Never know what you might find for a deal. Consigning is a little bit of a racket, have to make an appointment WAYYYY in advance, their take is at least 60%, the whole tracking system I just am not sure about. I have more luck on Ebay getting rid of any designer leftovers. Worth a stop if you’re curious.
