Amazing food! Very fresh sushi! Firestation roll is to die for. We had a large party come in 15 to close and the service was still exceptional and very accomodating even though we were probbly holding up closing. All staff working on Sunday night 1÷10÷16 was incredible, especially the server whose name we didn’t catch.

I liked this place a lot. I am by no means a sushi expert, but I thought the food was delicious. I had California rolls, which seemed a little small and missing cucumber but good, and the Philadelphia rolls were so yummy! The restaurant is cute, comfortable and inviting. The staff wasn’t very friendly, and they don’t serve chicken breast in their chicken dishes(dark meat only) but those are my only complaints.

When at seaside make it a point to eat here if you like sushi, it’s very good and reasonable

There are so many popular restaurants in Seaside, Oregon. Tourists certainly have a plethora to choose from. Even given this diverse and savory culinary landscape, Toru stands superior to others in its class. Having spent many years living in Berkeley(now a devotee of Osaka here in Santa Rosa), I consider myself well-acquainted with superb sushi. After we tasted the appetizers, we decided we owed it to our greatly stimulated tastebuds, to order several platters consisting of samples of dishes. Frankly, we have never tasted better sushi, sashimi, teriyaki, or tempura. The miso soup was prepared with just the right type and amount of sea vegetable to complement the miso taste. Even something seemingly as minor as the ginger salad dressing, I found excellent enough to be used with a few other dishes as complement to the dish. The service was excellent, not overbearing, nor unavailable when desired,(such as us the case in other restaurants in the area). Startling, but much appreciated, was the modesty exhibited when we thanked the chef directly(as he stood preparing behind the sushi bar, surrounded by fresh seafood in small aquariums). There is a small seating area for a larger party, separated from the larger dining area by screens and including a recessed table surrounded by pillows for seats on a low step surrounding the table. Topping off the gastronomically delightful evening, was the total on our bill, even including excellent choices of Japanese libations. We discovered that the chef was not the only modest aspect of Toru’s!

Cannot speak to the sushi, in so far as our kid had an avocado roll, but I did steal a piece one piece, it was decent. Pretty standard menu, but we weren’t inspired to order sushi. People say it’s great, we’ll try some next time. But what we did order was largely spot on and enjoyable for everyone in our group— from our senior parents to our small kids. The one meh was the teriyaki which was on the sweet side with what was very likely farmed salmon. Agedashi tofu is our daughter’s favorite anywhere it is served, she will order it every time. And we ended up getting two orders she liked it so much. The udon noodles were toothsome and the broth hot and flavorful. The tempura was nicely battered with a good, fresh crunch that was not overly doughy or greasy. There was even kabocha squash tempura, which you don’t often see! Tasty. That totally won me over. The senior and kids menus further offset our bill’s total, which was already very reasonable, and overall we thought it was a very good value for Japanese, which we have often, and try to have wherever we travel. Asian food is great for being low in dairy and wheat and gluten, so if you have those multiple sensitivities with anyone you are dining with, especially kids, Asian food is a winner in that regard. Especially if you’re avoiding too many french fries or your kids just are not super keen on salads, like ours. Our server was very nice. She was only one of two servers and there were several full tables on the night we were there for dinner. She was totally dialed in and we thought she was great. Some of our order came out super fast. Some parts of our order came a bit slower to a touch too long but nothing too bad, it was a busy night and they were understaffed. Strong recommendation. We will be back every time we are in Seaside/Gearhart area.

The worst service I ever had in my life! We got up and went across the street to have lunch.

Horrible service, impolite waiters, bad atmosphere, the waiters were rude to our group of friends and didn’t want to budge on splitting the checks, that would make sense if they were busy but we were the only people in there and they completely disrespected us.

Completely unacommodating. The waiter seated our group of twelve at one table and shortly after informed us that groups over 8 have to be on the same check. We politely asked if we can pay separately since we all had cards no cash and we got a quick no and left. They ended up losing 12 customers because of their disrespect and lack of unacommondation. The waiter was utterly disrespectful.

Terrible service wouldn’t want to split checks if seated together very rude server this is what they serviced me when I asked for a plate of California rolls the server thought he was being funny but he was actually being rude cause the other waitress he has a crush on didn’t like him back so he took it out on me and my friends!

Worst service ever. We had a party of 12 and the server told us that the check could not be split because their computer system can’t handle it. Even after the fact that we were there yesterday and slit the check between a even bigger party. The guy made us move all over the restaurant, which made absolutely no sense because that still requires a split check

I’ll go with 5 stars because everything I had was great. Not the best sushi I’ve EVER had… But it was delish and I would go there again. Chicken Vegetable Udon: yes. Spicy Tuna Roll: yes. Dragon Roll: YES.

Two star food and service with five star prices. Food quality and portions don’t match the prices. You would expect much better from a sushi restaurant on the coast.

I would not recommend anything that is not in a bottle or not fried. And even the fried food is questionable. Apparently the tourists want nothing but tuna and salmon and the quality of the fish sub par. I suspect that the quality of ingredients that the chefs have to work with are subpar. The servers were great. But when I stated as much at the end of our meal the cashier was disagreeable. I would think that when a customer has questions about the quality of the raw fish you are serving to the point of food poisoning that you should take concern vs give attitude. Though he did refund our meal(which we ate 5% off). And for that I gave an extra Star.

Take out looks nothing like the platter served in the restaurant. Quality was not better than Safeway sushi. I’m just going to Safeway next time at 2⁄3 of the price.

Literally some of the best sushi I’ve ever had. The first was so fresh and delicious. Very generous with sashimi and fillings alike and not heavy on the rice which is amazing. Decent prices. Happy hour is a great deal. Also had a sake bomb for the first time and the waitress was super friendly and helpful explaining how to do it. I wish this place was closer.

Good sushi, mediocre service. Had to wait almost an hour for our food. I understand — it was a busy weekend, but they should be used to that. Tourist towns have to be able to flex when they’re busy. This place seemed a little out of control service wise. But the sushi was good.

Given it’s location I was hoping to get amazing sushi, but I walked away with blah feeling in my mouth. I also walked away extremely hungry. Portion size leaves a bit to be desired as we spent nearly a hundred dollars and walked away like I wanted a cheeseburger to fill me up. I do eat like I have a third stomach but the sushi portions are tiny here. There are not many choices for sushi here at Seaside but if you are having a hankering for sushi, come here and enjoy yourself.

Honestly, I never really liked sushi, but I came here and thought why not try it? Best decision I’ve made, because I left more than satisfied. My mouth is watering just thinking about how scrumptious their udon soup was! The staff is super sweet! I loved the music they had playing, it definitely made my experience THAT much better. Love this place! I cannot wait to go back! 2 thumbs up

Dined here twice during a recent visit to Seaside. Both times were great experiences. First time husband had the udon. I just tasted the broth. It wasn’t overly salty and had great flavor. We shared a spider roll, dragon roll, and California roll. All were excellent and very fresh. I also had a plumb wine. It was almost too sweet, but I drank it anyway. The second time husband & I shared a senior combination plate of tempura shrimp & vegetables and chicken cutlet. We also ordered the unagi roll or eel roll as they call it. Tempura was delicious as was the cutlet. Unagi was good but the roll was small in diameter. We were quite full and happy. Green tea ice cream came with our dinner. They asked if we wanted chocolate sauce, whipped cream, & a cherry. Whaaaat? We asked for just the ice cream. Will definitely come back next time we are in Seaside!
