Mad Topper Yogurt

I’m sitting inside eating my froyo with a friend right now. My Oreos are stale and her skittle broke into hard plastic pieces when she but it… How long have these toppings been sitting out for?! Yikes… Not fresh toppings.

What a super frozen yogurt store! The owner greeted me warmly when I entered the shop and offered me samples to help make my decision. The coconut is my favorite, but all the flavors are very good. The fresh fruit selection is better than most and the toppings are creatively displayed in containers that guarantees freshness at every turn! As an added bonus, the shop contains hand knit items that adds to the charm of this store. In addition, the yogurt is home made and all organic! Surprising that I didn’t know about this place before. Can’t wait to go back for another special treat!

Store was nice and clean, topping area was clean also, hot fudge was nice and hot, I would highly recommend going here anytime you need a good cup of organic yogurt !!! YUMMY !!! ;)

This place has to be the worst yogurt place I have ever been to! I had a taste for frozen yogurt and decided to stop for a refreshing treat. When I entered the place I felt like I was in a nursing home. I was met by an older woman who was sitting and endlessly knitting. As I looked around I was surrounded by knitted sweaters hanging, clothes and other items set out on a counter. I thought to myself «Am I at a yogurt shop or at a flea market » Ok, so I made my way to the yogurt area and got two cups, one for myself and one for my daughter. I had the French Toast and a little Chocolate Yogurt, she had just the vanilla. The hot fudge bottle was clogged so I had trouble squeezing the fudge out same with the peanut butter. Paid my $ 9.00 and took it home. My daughter took hers and went to her room, I sat in the kitchen and dove into my cup of yogurt. First of all, the yogurt was tasteless. I mean no taste whatsoever. Secondly, the consistency was crunchy like I was eating ice crystals. The only flavor I tasted was a bit of peanut butter and fudge. The hot fudge sauce, although hot was lacking that rich chocolate flavor. I ended up throwing it all out. Shortly after, my daughter walked into the kitchen with her yogurt and said that she tasted nothing but the toppings. She said her yogurt was tasteless. The irony here is that we NEVER agree on anything. For us, this was a first. We both agreed that the yogurt was totally flavorless and that the only hint of flavor was the toppings. So, I’m thinking that maybe the owners should stick to knitting!

Countless flavors, countless toppings, countless opportunities! With the froyo being organic and gluten free, but full of taste, Mad Topper Yogurt is the place to go. I’m mad for mad topper!

This is seriously the best frozen yogurt I’ve ever had anywhere, hands down. I never see this place too busy, which is likely due to the unfortunate location (it’s a standalone building in the parking lot of a seemingly desolate strip mall). They’ve been around for over a year now, and I hope they keep going. Everything is certified organic, which is pretty awesome. The place is run by this really friendly, really down-​to-​earth couple, which is a nice breather from all of the apathetic high school students in every other frozen yogurt shop. They make their own product, and they make it with an obvious passion. If you’re in the area, I strongly encourage a stop here. Get the coconut. You’ll be glad.

Best part about this place must be the staff. Super friendly and conversational. The place is nicely decorated and the yogurt is delicious! Very homey feel. I liked.

Froyo spots on long island are cropping up faster than sushi and nail places in strip malls combined. C’mon long islanders, I know you’re with me on this one. You can’t go 2 miles in south shore Nassau without being close to at least one of them. While I feel inundated with a variety of handles, mangos, swirls, moos, and mama’s like places mad topper caught my eye. Was it the giant cow out front? Or, perhaps the bright yellow interior with OPEN stuck to the walls? Hmmm’maybe a little bit of column A and B.
I like the mad topper, it’s different and this is why:
— The name makes me think of the mad hatter, and I giggle.
— All of the frozen yogurts are organic. Hello, where can you get that? Certainly NOT at red-​ripoff.
— The dispensers are super sanitary. No boogery children are sticking their hands in MY shaved coconut, thank you very much.
— They are independently owned by husband and wifey
— They’ve got some rad business cards, just look at them!!!
I don’t really get crazy with the flavors any more. I had a phase where I mixed the most ungodly things together in a little paper cup like red velvet froyo, kiwi, chocolate, caramel and mochi. Ugh. You live and learn, clearly. I often stick with a vanilla bean or coconut and sparingly put the toppings on. One of my biggest complaints is that there isn’t a big choice of fruit. There is a sign *fruit available upon request* but really I don’t feel like asking the owner to chop up an ENTIRE pineapple so I can get a couple of morsels in my cuppa. Also, more kiwi please?
The couple that runs this place is very nice but a little unusual. The wife often comes off abrasive to customers but she means well I suppose. All the knitted things on the inside is admittedly a little strange too.
Regardless I’d still recommend checking Mad Topper out so get a healthy little treat and maybe hug the cow. Mooo.

as a fan of swirls & twirls, i’ve often found myself tempted to stop in here as i drove by, but it just never happened & my aforementioned mainstay has won out… today, proximity won out over loyalty & i finally gave mad topper a try
the place had a very strange, uncomfortable vibe to it, but that could be a result of it being empty in there with the exception of a woman who i assume is the owner and an older couple who she was very busy chit chatting with, to be honest i was left feeling completely ignored when i walked in as she didn’t break her conversation one bit to acknowledge my existence, and having to pause said conversation to ring me up appeared to be a nuisance for her
on to the offerings: they had about a dozen different flavors of yogurt available, but it took quite some time to figure out what they were because the little digital screens above each handle flip between displaying the flavor & the nutrition info, and it started to feel like someone was playing a joke on me as each station i walked to switched to the nutrition info before i could read the flavor… still, i was finally able to get through this nuisance and settle on the salted caramel yogurt
after getting your yogurt, it’s on to the toppings bar where they have a wide assortment of stuff available — they run the gamut of sinful additives from candy to cereal, cookies & more… then, in the corner you find a small section of fruit and some granola — sadly, the fruit was of the canned variety… kudos for having the majority of the dry toppings in hands off dispensers where you turn the handle to get some, definitely a wise choice from a sanitary standpoint
how did it all taste? not bad… the flavor of my yogurt was spot on, but the consistency was not right — a little on the gritty side, and as i approached the bottom it was clumping together, never seen that at red mango or swirls & twirls… the granola was not bad, but the fact that the fruit as i mentioned was canned & not fresh was a bit disappointing
would i go back? maybe with a coupon or something i’d give them one more shot but i definitely would not go out of my way for this place, especially with 2 swirls & twirls locations within 5 minutes of here where the product is better & the staff is way friendlier

I’ve come here over 10 times now with my family and have only had great experiences. The owner has always been nice to us. The flavors are great and way too many toppings to choose from.

This one is different. How you may ask can this be different than all the rest? Well, MTY has decided to go organic, Gluten Free and always fresh hand cut fruit toppings.
Yes, they have the standard flavors that seemed so ingenious just a few years ago however their yogurt just tastes a bit fresher, a bit healthier and a bit happier!
Great young staff with knowledge of what makes theirs the best!

This store has changed hands at least 3 times since we moved to the neighborhood. Always an ice cream shop. This time my husband and I said «geez, another ice cream joint?.. they will last the summer.» But Mad Topper is different. Its a place I don’t mind my 4 year old daughter visiting after daycare for a snack and getting a few toppings. The frozen yogurt is good and healthy and the topping choices are plentiful (everything from chocolate covered rice krispies to fresh strawberries and every syrup under the sun. you got to try the «cookie butter»). The prices are better than a 16 Handles or other similar self serve places (I can get a small cup for my daughter with a good amount of toppings for about 3 bucks)
The owners, Heidi and Dean, know us by name now (as we do them) and are always there to open the door for us. I have heard Heidi reprimand some kids, but rightfully so. No child should just put their hands into the topping dishes. we ALL are using the toppings and children should know proper manners. The owners are trying to run a clean shop with a good product. The shop itself is the best layout it has had in all the iterations it has been in the past; good flow, seating inside. They still have to work out the kinks and get some young staff in there to bring some energy to the place but overall I wish them luck and hope it sticks around. According to their sign they are open 365 days a year. if they are there Christmas Day, I will be there with my family enjoying their product.

I’ve been there 3 or 4 times since the place opened in July. I live in the neighborhood and watched as the new owners took over the space, gutted it and opened. It has always been an ice cream place. In the 9 years I’ve lived in this neighborhood, the ice cream shop must have opened, closed, and changed ownership 6 times. Owning an independent ice cream shop is probably a tough gig when you have two Dunkin Donuts/​Baskin Robbins and two Carvel on either side of you. Maybe self serve yogurt is the way to go; we’ll see.
They definitely put thought into the space, everything is new and environmentally conscious (down to the reverse-​osmosis water). The owner explained the layout the first three times we were there and how to operate the machines. I never had a run-​in with other staff reprimanding me or my kids for misusing anything. I see that people may have gotten rubbed the wrong way. The way I see it, they’re passionate about their business and want people to have the best experience. I’m sure they’ll tone it down after a while.
I like the idea of organic frozen yogurt. They have a lot of toppings; some organic, most not. You can basically do whatever you want. If you don’t like it, whose fault is it, really?
As it is with every self serve place, they get you with the toppings. You load up your bowl with everything they have, it’s gonna get pricey. That said, I can make a small sundae that can satisfy a kid or an adult, and my family of 4 walks out of there with a pretty decent dessert experience for twelve bucks.
I hope that the place learns from experience and heeds suggestions from customers (and the more level-​minded Unilocalers) and stays around for a while. It’s nice to have some independent, local businesses doing well in the area.

Stopped by earlier today as they recently opened in the neighborhood and the location is very convenient. Sampled a few flavors and settled on the Coconut and Marachino Cherry flavor… both flavors that I have not seen offered at other self-​serve places and I’ve tried a lot of them. I liked the idea that the majority of the toppings are from the canister with the wheel. I have food allergies and typically avoid toppings because of cross-​contamination. This way, it seems that once they refill the containers they will keep the container with the topping. Aside from the location being convenient, the inside of the place was very clean and welcoming. Most of the self-​serve places feel «futuristic,» this place just feels «homey» and not trying to be like every other yogurt place on Long Island. Price is the same as most others.$ 0.49/ounce and I believe there are coupons too. They are also differentiating themselves from the rest by offering baked goods, oatmeal, vegetarian soups. I hope you give them a shot becuase it’s nice to see family-​owned businesess’ succeed

This place just opened and it’s already a complete disaster. I knew it was going to be terrible when I walked in and the girl said, hello our yogurt is fat free, not free, egg free, kosher, blah blah blah. All I heard was no taste, no taste, no taste and I should have ran for the door right away, but I like to give local businesses support, so I got some anyway. They make it look like they have alot of flavors however they probably had three flavors, two flavors they said they had werent ready, and there was chocolate and vanilla in multiple machines making it appear that they had more than they did, and I had to wait 2 minutes at each machine to see what the flavor was because the digital picture frame on each machine took forever to change from the nutritional info to the type of yogurt it was. I said, ok fine, Ill just get the chocolate, and my wife got the vanilla. On to the toppings, the toppings bar was filthy and half of the fruits and open toppings looked stale and bad and the place has been open a week. what a joke. The other toppings that are in canisters take forever to come out of the containers by spinning this stupid wheel and when they do come out more gets on the counter than in your yogurt and it takes forever. Last but not least, there are no lids for the yogurt, just saran wrap. This place will be open for 6 month tops before they fail, if they are this terrible, when theyve been open for a week they will only get worse. I’m sorry it’s bad to say, but at least pretend to care about your business.
