Beyond Pilates Studio

I can officially say that I’m obsessed with Pilates and Barre! I’ve been visiting this studio for about 3 months now and I love it.
I started with a groupon and quickly decided that I wanted to become a member of Beyond Pilates.
What I like about the studio is that it’s intimate. There are usually only 7 people max during the times that I go, so I feel like you get a more specialized workout. Also, the fact that I can do barre OR Pilates is awesome! Most of the larger chain studios offer one or the other.
All of the instructors are professional and knowledgable. For Barre, I love Katharine. She is super encouraging and motivating during her class.
As for the workout itself, it’s tough but so worth it. Pilates is a very toning workout and strenuous at times. But the reformer machine makes it fun!
Barre is a little harder in my opinion but manageable. I’m never so sore that I can’t walk the next day.
I’m so happy that I joined!

Okay! So I know I said in my last review that I would post again when I got my cholesterol numbers back after Pilates binging twice a day, twice a week. Well, I am disappointed that my numbers weren’t better… but I can’t blame that on anything but genetics. I’m an older gal (but often not the oldest one in a class) and my goals are not the norm. I’m not looking to lose a ton of weight, just to be my best self. I’ve been out of the loop a bit with some necessary travels and two zinger illnesses back to back. I was out for a month and last week was my first week back. Yowza! I only went for 1 class on Tuesday and Thursday and then this week I did a double class just yesterday. Let’s just say that I totally dig Alissa and Kimberly in the Pilates classes and Priscilla in Cardio Barre.
I know I ramble, but there is so much to get in this review. If you’re thinking about trying Pilates out, I would highly recommend it. It is definitely not soft and fluffy. It will kick your butt every day and twice on Sunday.
I may not be a skinny chick, but I know I feel better, I sleep better, and I have greater lung capacity. I recognize my strength as strength, and understand my weaknesses as well. I’m a 50 year old woman with a great marriage, healthy kids, a fabulous church family and I want to stick around for all of that. I’m cool being a little «extra-​plush» but I don’t want any of that to slow me down.
Right now they are doing the 45-​day challenge. Okay! This was genius! And they throw in this weird stuff all the time. There was an extra charge for the 45-​day challenge (totally worth it) becaue of all the extra classes. I didn’t do it… this time!
All I can say, Try it… You’ll like it. There are always nice people in class, I have NEVER seen anyone feel bad about their inability… only their ability. That’s a big deal! COME ON!

All of the instructors are wonderful, but I would like to write a review specifically for Kourtney. She has impeccable attention to detail and really focuses on form so that I get the most of my 50 minute workout. She works really hard to make corrections on all students, and genuinely cares about each person in her class, making adjustments when needed. I have learned a lot from her!

I have taken 8 beginners reformer classes here and I love it! The instructor, Tabitha Stine, is awesome! Even though I’m in my forties, I’m new to exercising and Tabitha has been so helpful and patient with my lack of coordination and awkwardness. ;) I was really nervous about taking classes but I now I really look forward to going. Thank you!

I took my very first Pilates class at the Santee location and boy did I get a great workout! I’m by no means in shape and I was intimidated at first but my instructor, Alissa was amazing! I highly recommend taking a class with her! As a first timer, she showed me how to set up the reformer and she was very attentive. She made sure that I was using the proper form and answered any questions that I had. The workout was fun and it truly worked out my core because I was sore for a couple days lol. She even had us wipe down the equipment afterwards which shows that they care about cleanliness. Looking forward to taking future classes with Alissa!

Love this studio. Alissa Pankow is my favorite instructor. It is challenging and so rewarding to finish a class. Been doing it for 4 weeks and I can see small changes. I mean it didn’t take me 4 weeks to get out of shape. Right?

Just finished my first Pilates class ever! Tried the Beginner Reformer class with Wendy and had such a good time! Very challenging but I can’t wait to see how my body changes! Kimberly and Wendy are amazing instructors!
You will need grip socks for the Pilates classes. You can buy them at the studio if needed or you could plan ahead and buy from Amazon for more of a selection of colors!

I usually go to La Mesa, but your membership allows you to go to either studio so one day I came here and had a class with Kimberly.
It was beginning but it was a challenging beginning! At least I was challenged. Muscles I wasn’t aware that I had were shaking.
Kimberly walks around explaining each exercise and corrects people’s forms, which I find incredibly helpful.

Great new Pilates studio to join! Super close to my house, friendly instructors, great hours and clean facility. I never liked going to the normal gym and this place has been a great alternative and easy for me to commit too. Highly recommend!

This place is my 2^nd home! I am probably here 6−7x a week and sometimes 2x a day. Some of the instructors have become good friends of mine! The best of the best! Ania and Brad the owners are so amazing and truly receptive! The best instructors you will find (well my favorite at least) are Kimberly, Alissa, Tabitha, Carina and Katherine! I just adore each and every one of them! They all have there own ways, but they kick your butts! I always feel amazing leaving and cannot wait to come back! You will never find a better studio

My first attempt for class was at 6pm on a Tuesday. I was stuck in a little traffic and got stuck at every single red light.
I got to the studio at 6:03 and was told the class was full.
Seeing as this was my first experience I was a confused and told the instructor I had already reserved my spot online. She informed me that my spot had been given away because I was late and I would be refunded.
I almost didn’t come back. But I already purchased classes and didn’t want to waste the money.
I am SO glad I gave it another shot.
The instructors at this studio are amazingly trained and make your workout exciting.
Now, I fully appreciate the attendance policy. The instructors are fully in tune with the workout and keep the pace nice and smooth. No distractions (:

Two weeks in and I am already seeing results. I tried Pilates at the La Mesa location and took their Spin class. And I am obsessed!!!

Yoga class review:
I bought a groupon excited to have a yoga class close by and went for my first class at the Santee studio. I signed up for a candle light gentle yoga class and other studios have always blown me away with these types of classes. I went in super positive left annoyed.
First the teacher lit scented candles… All I have to say is use unscented /​tea lights! With the wonderful deep breathing we did I left with a horrible headache.
The class had some good moments but right when I had expected some longer hip openers she had us doing series of crunches? Eh… All I wanted was some gentle yoga to melt into bliss land! It ended with less than 2 min of savasana/​resting pose. Blah.
I am planning on using up the rest of my group on at their other studios and see if it’s any better. Cross your fingers.

I’ve taken Beginning Reformer with Wes and another with Kimberly. They are both great instructors with different workouts so there is lots of variety. They explain the exercises and walk around to make sure everyone has good form. I find the workouts very challenging and I’m feeling muscles being worked that have been long forgotten.
I love the Candle Light Yoga class with Maritza. I felt so good after and had a great night’s sleep. She walks around and gently shows you the correct form and modifications if needed.

The Beyond Pilates Studio rocks! The workouts are challenging, fun and well-​rounded. I’ve been an athlete most of my life and have been exposed to many styles of exercise (I am also a fitness instructor); however, the Beyond Pilates reformer and barre classes are uniquely challenging. I walked into my first class (Beyond Pilates) on June 2^nd thinking «ok, this will be easy, it’s just another class». NOPE, I was totally wrong! These classes are designed to transform your body from head to toe – and they do. Within a month, I noticed my abs (especially my obliques), legs, glutes and arms were looking stronger and leaner. I’ve never experienced such fast results (not even when I did P90X or Insanity). I attend classes (Beyond Pilates, All Levels Reformer and/​or Barre) 3 times per week. If you are ready to sweat, gain lean muscle and sculpt your body, Beyond Pilates is the place to be. Ania and her fitness staff are top-​notch, experienced instructors who understand how to get your body toned and strong in a safe, effective and pressure-​free manner. If you’re considering trying a class or purchasing a membership, DO IT, you will not be disappointed.

One of the best experiences of my life. I started in March 2015 after a bad siatica problem, when i first tryed to touch the ground I could ony make it mid shin. Now July i can touch the ground flat handed. Also changed my eating along with pilates and walking and have lost 15 pounds. I love beyond pilates! !! Thanks Ania for coming to Santee

I went to my first class today, Beginner Reformer, and it was awesome! Kimberly was our instructor and she was great. She was very helpful and took time to adjust my machine even though the class was full. Her directions were clear and she gave options to make it a bit easier or harder depending on your level. I bought the new member special, 6 classes for $ 20 — what a great deal!

Took Yoga with Maritza this morning and it was fantastic way to start the day! The class was a little small but it gave for one one on one instruction with my practice. She had a very gentle presence and was extremely knowledgable. I feel she taught a class that I think would benefit every level of yogi.
The facilities is very clean, new and beautiful. I look forward to coming back and trying their other classes.

At first I was afraid to join this studio because I have been to another pilates studio in the past and it was okay, but there was a bit of arrogance in the air. BUT this studio is completely different! I have had 2 different instructors so far and they both have been great! I am very out of shape and had a snowboarding accident recently which kept me immobile for almost 3 months! Ania has made me feel like I am capable of learning and rebuilding. Thank you Ania for helping me out. I have a long way to go in terms of getting fit and rebuilding, but I’m sure if I keep going, I will get there. thank you. Love this studio and the instructors! I have taken classes at other studios and this is my favorite. The instructors, especially Ania, are very knowledgeable. They walk around to make sure that you are doing the exercises properly and will help you correct when needed.
Good classes with attention to each person’s needs. I have taken the barre and pilates. All have been a great work out! Definitely a studio I would recommend.

I have been to three classes and have enjoyed them all. I am trying the beginning Pilates this week and can’t wait. Ania is a great instructor and very motivating. Kimberly is great with instructions, very clear on what I need to do. Very excited Beyond-​Pilates opened in Santee. Highly recommend you try it out.
