Pieter Rousseau Hardwood Floors

What a great find! Pieter and his crew did an excellent job with the installation of Brazilian Teak at my apartment. He was quick to provide me with a competitive quote and was on time to take the measures. Pieter helped me find the right place to get the best deal on the hardwood floors that I wanted and even gave me some materials for free that he had leftover on his shop. I felt Pieter had my best interest in mind as he takes pride for doing outstanding work. His pricing was good too — and a lot less than another quote that I got.

Pieter responded promptly to my inquiry about refinishing the original oak floors in my 1923 bungalow in Santa Monica. His price was equivalent to others I contacted with the added benefit of being local. He came by to see my floors and we booked it for the first 2-​day window I suggested. His crew was prompt and courteous. Mine was a very small job: 220 square feet in 2 attached rooms. They were in good shape, but after 20 years of my use they needed rejuvenation and protection. They look beautiful, more than compensating for the inevitable clean-​up. I’m so happy I made this commitment and I recommend Pieter Rousseau highly.

Pieter and his team were great! They were able to complete our job of putting hardwoods in our entire downstairs a week quicker than anyone else told me was possible. They were extremely quick, hardworking, showed up on time, and the quality of their work is incredible. We couldn’t be happier with how things went working with Pieter.

So far so great! Pieter and his team has done an amazing job for the hardwood flooring for my new home. There’s some follow up work to be done, so I’ll come back with an update and pictures once the final product is finished. Here’s a review of everything so far.
I purchased a house in a new development community and decided to do my own flooring instead of buying from the builder to save costs. I spoke to 4 different contractors and Pieter stood out head and shoulders above everyone else. His price was competitive, but most importantly he was highly professional and maintains a strong sense of pride and ownership in his work. He came by the property and measured out the specs and gave me a detailed quote over email. His response time to questions were essentially immediate by text (day or night) and he was always gladly willing to talk through things with me over the phone. The decision was easy.
I engaged Pieter about a month before my escrow closing date. Of course we got delayed and our closing got pushed back a week, but Pieter made sure to be available on the new date no questions asked. He promised the job would be done in two days and he delivered. There’s some follow up work as we need to move our built-​in refrigerator so Pieter can lay some wood beneath it, but everything else looks fantastic otherwise.

Pieter is a really great guy! I went to Simple Floors and he came highly recommended so I looked at his reviews on Unilocal; they are spot on. Pieter came out and gave me an estimate, we agreed on a fair price, and he gave me a timetable for the install. His attention to the details on corners and doorjambs was impeccable. I got a call from Pieter the day the job was done to let me know the house was secured and they were done (the day he said he would be finished) and when I got home to our new floors everything looked wonderful! His crew did a good job of tidying up before they left as you would never had known they were even there. The best part was after all that… he gave me a discount on some of the agreed upon demo that was extra over just the flooring. His words were «Well, I was going to the dump any way with the old flooring material so I just threw that in. Don’t worry about it.». It is hard to find honest, detail oriented workers these days and when you are spending a small fortune on the materials for the floor, it is nice to know you are in good hands with Pieter. I hope anyone who is reading this has just as wonderful an experience as we did, as we highly recommend Pieter on your floor install!

I highly recommend Pieter. He and his crew did a wonderful job removing my carpet and installing about 1100 square feet of hardwood floors. Moved and properly replaced a ton of furniture without me even having to be home. Removed and refitted, re-​mitered, and repainted base boards — cannot tell. Cleaned up daily and at the end. Stuck to his original, reasonably priced installation estimate, even though the furniture move and baseboard rehab turned out to be more extensive than estimated. Floors look fantastic. Would definitely use again if the need arose. Thanks.

Pieter was great to work with start to finish. He was extremely patient and helpful as I searched for the right flooring at the right price. He went the extra mile every step of the way with my job. His pricing was reasonable and the quality of his work was exceptional. The thing I appreciated most about Pieter was his willingness to discuss and solve issues as they came up during the job. He really cares about getting the job done right. I would absolutely recommend him and will use him again. Pieter and his team were absolutely fantastic. They took out tile, carpet and linoleum and put in hardwood flooring in about 1300 square feet of space. They were quick (never a minute waisted!), precise and totally professional. We loved them so much we had them back to do our upstairs area. Highly recommended. Pieter did an amazing job with such an awesome price. I called around different places to get quotes to refinish my floor. I have a 2000 sq. foot house that is completely covered in carpet. I was getting crazy high prices with other vendorS until I spoke to Pieter. I spoke to him and was skeptical about his work with such competitive pricing. I did some searching on Unilocal and Angie’slist and read the many positive raving review about his work. I decided to go for him and am so glad I did it. His crew came and did everything in 4 days. I highly recommend working with Pieter. We had a very tight timeframe to work with and he delivered on everything he promised (the amount of days it would take to complete the job, the quality of work that would get done, etc). We had a tricky set-​up in our house where one section of the downstairs had carpet and another area had existing old wood floors and he was able to put in new floors in the carpet area and sand down and stain the existing floors so it all matched perfectly. We were very happy with the final product.

I just had Pieter install hardwood floor in my condo. He was totally right on for the cost and super professional. He was in and out in one day. A friend of mine who has redone many of his homes came and saw the new floors and was way impressed with how good the finished floor looked and that even though Pieter’s team had to take off the floor moldings and reput on it was still done in one day and looked amazing. I found Pieter through my flooring supplier. He came with very high reviews and I found him and his crew to be fast, clean and professional. The bid was right about what I had anticipated, they were always early or on time and he was always easy to reach by phone or text. Pieter Rousseau and his team were the best you can hope for! Pieter himself came out to give the first estimate, and knew exactly what to do within a few minutes of looking at the space. We are a small company in Los Angeles, and his team came in and made our old floors look brand new again. The floors had been mistreated, and covered in scars. They were able to start the job quickly, they finished the job right on schedule, and Pieter was even kind enough to strike 100 square feet off the job price. I would recommend Pieter to anyone, and I surely will.

We recently discovered 1930’s oak flooring under carpeting in our home. The adjoining hardwood floors were installed in the 80’s, and so we needed a refinishing job that could make the two different floors flow together. This is what we achieved– and even beyond our greatest hopes, thanks to Pieter and his crew.
The original quote was reasonable, as were the additional repairs that we requested in another room. Pieter’s workers were highly skilled, professional and respectful of our home and our space. Every night over four days, their equipment and supplies were stacked neatly in a corner and the area left clean. They are expert craftsmen in every way.
We are thrilled with the results, and will be calling Pieter back when it’s time to go on to the next room. Knowing what might have happened with just an average crew, I would give him a sixth star if I could!

Pieter gave us a great quote and even directed us to a great place to buy the product. His crew was very efficient and polite. They finished on time and outdid our expectations and everything was under budget. Pieter has a dry sense of humor, which worked well with our family, but I can understand others not understanding that side of him. We had multiple types of flooring, and he recommended a process that worked out well, even though our floor is uneven throughout. Highly recommended.

First, My simple rule on giving 1 or 2 star — My experience obviously wan’t good and will never do another business with again.
With the definition cleared, here it goes.
Got laminate hardwood installed in bedroom floors a few month back. I did not purchase them either from him nor from a store he seems to co-​own or business partner in North Hollywood — SimpleFloor. I was simply looking for an installer to do a good job. Pieter came with quite stellar review on Unilocal and Angie’s list, and pretty close to where I live, so I went with him.
I will list couple lessons learned so if you, a fellow Unilocaler, decide to go with him, you are not blindsided.
1 /​/​Always get a ‘Detailed’ quote /​invoice in writing in advance of any work performed, and have him stick to it. Pieter seemed to give a very reasonable pricing quote and quite upfront, which I liked. This turned out to be not so true. He changes his words and gives confusing invoice/​quotes during the work and when it’s finished. So get a quote, no matter what he (or other contractors) says. Be especially careful when he speaks «I will take care of you, don’t worry» Do not trust words and handshakes.
2 /​/​Make sure he is the one doing your job or supervising his minions constantly on site. In my case, the job required probably wasn’t as ‘important’ as his other clients, so he simply sent his underlings, a.k.a workers, who did a pretty decent job, but obviously with flaws. When I asked him when he will come by to check out the work, his reply astonished me. Pieter is pretty cocky in nature and sent me some images of obviously high-​end homes saying «I’m working this job and this one, and this one. Please understand.» — One simple rule of a good, trustworthy business is no matter the size of the job, you pay attention to every client’s needs. Obviously, my job wasn’t big enough and neglected — causing fit and finish/​job quality issues later on.
3 /​/​Ask him for any warranty or quality guarantee. Due to unsatisfactory work done, my wood squeaks at some spots and is not as solidly planted as desired on certain areas. Also, some door moldings are chipped due to unprofessional cutting work done. Simply Bad.
4 /​/​Negotiate hard. There are plenty of rooms to negotiate on pricing and work done. Do not take No for an answer and be prepared to walk away as there are plenty of other professionals who will do a better job.
5 /​/​If you are simply putting down laminate flooring, go with other qualified professionals that come in dozens, not with Pieter. What’s really important to you, unfortunately won’t be for Pieter.
For bigger jobs requiring real wood, resurfacing, refinishing, staining… etc? I cannot answer that for you, but he has been in business for many years and other Unilocalers say he’s good — but would you really trust reviewers who are bots? — so it’s really up to you. However, I can tell you this. For my next and ongoing hardwood related jobs, that will certainly be bigger, I will be looking for someone else.
All in all, the job was done, but with unacceptable workmanship in certain areas and unclear, murky pricing/​invoicing tactics I’ve experienced, I can only give One star.

Outstanding and worth the price, I love my floors! A week ago the American walnut hardwood was stained ebony and not done very well. After finishing 2 days ahead of schedule, they are back to their golden natural state.
Pieter and his crew were very easy to communicate with and trustworthy. I highly recommend.
