My first decent setup back in the day was a Santa Cruz red dot with independent trucks. I continue to ride only independent to this day. I just picked up a great surfboard from NHS, the Pumpkin Seed(shaped by Doug Haut) which is a fish/short board blend. Thanks to the kind folks at the Santa Cruz Boardroom, is was the first time that I was able to try the board *before* I bought it. My new Santa Cruz board makes it easy to catch waves due to the fishy nose yet the pin tail maintains short-board performance characteristics.

independent truck company, santa cruz skateboard, ricta wheels, mob grip, krux trucks, creature skateboards, bullet skateboards, crime skateboards, santa cruz snowboards, santa cruz surfboards, nor*cal clothing… dude, this company has everything! just with their skateboards, they’ve got stuff for the old skool and new skool. they have high end stuff as well as entry level stuff(like bullet skateboards). i like that they’re a company that tries to innovate instead of just slapping on new graphics each season: consider their powerlyte skateboard decks, their snowboard decks with biometric construction for true bidirectional, freestyle riding, their dual durometer ricta wheels, their variety of truck heights for either indies or kruxes… they innovate, and their products have stood the test of time. i mean, heh… sure i remember some products that have gone by the wayside like their tall bullet wheels with the weight-reducing groove down the middle, their line of skis, cell block iiis, assymetrical designarium decks. i guess they know when to pull the plug on projects. anyway, the santa cruz name is probably one of the most recognizable in the boardsports industry. it’s great to be part of the original nor*cal boardsports culture. now, you can’t really buy their products directly from the corporation, but you surely ought to ask for them at your local skate shop or board shop!
