Beckmann’s Old World Bakery

I love their pies and their breads! I have tried the rum laced pecan pie and pumpkin pie both outstanding. Follow directions on the box for heating and you wont be disappointed! Also love their banana and pumpkin breads! Absolutely delicious! I wish it was easier to get other than the farmer’s markets but I guess not going super commercial is the key to keeping it super authentic!

We picked up two small pies today from the Campbell Farmer’s Market — apple and strawberry rhubarb. My wife and I are in complete agreement that these pies were the best apple and strawberry rhubarb pies that we have ever had! Warmed up in the oven at 400 degrees for 10 minutes (as recommended) made for an exceptional crust, as promised! I can’t recommend these pies highly enough! We will be back to try more things!

Consistent quality products. Recently got an impromptu tour as a friend worked there and discovered a few products I didnt know they made, like apple swirl bread! Its amazing! So fresh and gooey!

The sourdough bread is pretty decent, but their drivers keep dumping all there old bread in my dumpster off of Piedmont Ave in Oakland, I have called but nothing has been done, not a very reputable bread company, they need to bring all there old bread back, instead of dumping in other people’s garbage cans

Pies– The crust is incredible, the filling (I’ve tried strawberry rhubarb and strawberry marion berry, both were outstanding) is not too tart but not overly sweet. I’d recommend starting with the small pies, they’re a nice way to try the selection. And they’re delicious.
Bread– I’ve had the sourdough and the rye. Both were great and I’ve bought each more than once. Highly recommended.

We always visit their stand at the Campbell Farmer’s Market. Every year I look forward to getting their super yummy Pecan Pie. The crust is buttery and flaky. I buy a few during the fall/​winter season and put them in my freezer so I an eat pecan pie all year long. We also buy several of their breadsticks and sourdough loafs and put them in the freezer.

Yes, pie was part of our dessert selection for our wedding. The people answering the phone at Beckmann’s were wonderful and very responsive. We ordered about 12 pies for our wedding of about 100 guests. By the end of the night, there may have been 2.5 pies left, but by the time we reached the hotel, there were none. ;) My favorites out of the bunch would have to be their pumpkin pies. All the guests including ourselves, loved the simple goodness of these pies and I couldn’t have been happier with this choice!

While I’ve never been to the actual bakery location in Santa Cruz, I can attest to the quality and convenience of these goods at my local farmers market in Mountain View.
Of all the baked goods, I prefer the little pies ($ 11 each) because you get the best ratio of pie crust to filling. The crust is divine! So flaky and buttery good on every single pie. The cherry and pecan pies tie as favorites, but at times I feel like a Berry Bomb or even classic apple. I’ve tried the pumpkin pie and it’s incredibly creamy and easy to eat. Unfortunately for me, I can’t handle the lactose, but if you can please try it!
I like that you can freeze the pies and I always have one or two in my freezer waiting for a rainy day. Baking them post-​freeze actually makes the crust even flakier! Definitely a win-​win.
The chocolate chip cookies are also quite notable and sinfully good and chewy.
Their breakfast pastries aren’t that great to me because they are SO large and always too doughy for my taste. I prefer flakier and more texturally interesting (less messy) morning buns and tarts.
I have yet to try their breads, but they all look quite delicious. Find Beckmann’s at your local farmer’s market!

This is our first time trying Beckmann’s products and we weren’t disappointed. We had their Jalapeño Focaccia and their Sun Dried Tomato Focaccia both were delicious, soft bread with nice toppings. Also tried one of their Marion berry turn overs so buttery, delicious goodness. We’ll be back to try more stuff!

Gave up bread to lose weight but was miserable without my bread. Then I re-​discovered Beckmann’s Old World Bakery — German Farm Bread. No ingredients my body doesn’t need. Only five healthy ingredients. It actually helps me stay on target with my weight. The best part is, it’s delicious. Makes me happy and one more happy follower. Thank you Beckmann’s for keeping it healthy and wholesome.

Two Words: Awesome Breads

We made the mistake of going to the warehouse on Bronson that will not sell you pies. We ended up making the trip to a local market for an olloliberry pie that was not very tasty. The layer of sweetened tofu wasn’t exactly what I was looking for.

Fist… I have never eaten their products, but…
Unilocal is Very misleading. DO NOT go to the address listed on Unilocal.This is a huge warehouse. Nothing is sold retail here. This address takes you to their warehouse and corporate operation, with about 40 Beckmann delivery trucks out front.
But this showed me it was probably NOT the home made/​handmade fruit pies we were looking for. I was looking for something like Three Babes Bakery in SF. Enough said.
But, the receptionist was very helpful and even called to find that Summit Market on 17^th had their pies in stock. We just weren’t headed that direction.

My family and I have enjoyed everything we’ve purchased from these wonderful folks :-) The taste and texture of breads simply cannot be beat… the breadsticks are delicious and are the perfect thing to bring to a dinner party, always a hit! The holiday pies are sinfully delicious… make sure you order early!
Having said all this, the thing that stands out most for me is their phenomenal customer service. The people who work here truly go above and beyond to help customers in any way they can. I’ve never spoken to a single employee who wasn’t kind, helpful, and genuine… this includes the people who work the farmer’s markets as well as the people at the headquarters. PS… the Unilocal info makes it seem as if you can go to the headquarters to buy bread… you cannot! But the lovely people at the office can help you find any number of stores in your neighborhood that stock Beckmann’s products.
To sum it up… delicious baked goods, stellar customer service… kind people… doesn’t get much better than that :-)

I would be very careful about their «natural» food. They are as natural as Zombie Reagan. Please do NOT buy their Granolas or their banana breads which contains canola oil. Please question where they get their sugars and what sugars they use in their pastries. They are everywhere in the farmers market and they won’t change their products.

I’ve been buying baked goods from their stand at the Campbell Farmer’s Market ever since I’ve been going to this market (there were several years where I didn’t live in the area, but I’m back now).
Their sourdough breads are fantastic! I especially like their asiago cheese sourdough bread. Use it to make sandwiches, toasted, or even plain right out of the bag.
When they used to be located in front of the Starbucks at the Campbell Farmer’s Market, I also got their pastries pretty regularly, the chocolate croissant & almond croissant type (bear claw?). And it used to be the same 2 guys working the stand too, a younger guy (college age?) & a guy in his 30s-​40s?. They had great rapport with each other & the customers, & would always make me laugh, especially once they started seeing me weekly.
Nowadays, I tend to get there a bit on the late side, & they are often out of many pastries. I’ve been trying the various flavored fruit turnovers.
One of my co-​workers recently advised me to try their olallieberry pie, after we had been discussing Beckmann’s during lunch. Oh, I haven’t tried their pies! I’ll have to do that & update my review (if I remember to)!
So, this place & Manresa Bread Project will keep me going to the Campbell Farmer’s Market.

Yum! Great pumpkin pie, strawberry rhubarb pie and holiday dinner rolls. I was very skeptical when my mom said she wanted to buy instead of bake pies this year since her kitchen is out of commission. Well, of course I’m still going to bake a few but I’m glad I don’t have to bake enough pies for 25 people. These are as good as homemade, which really is saying a lot.
I recently tried a pie by a high end vendor at Whole Foods (Upper Crust Pies, it was called) and it was so totally subpar. The pies at Beckmann’s are less expensive and a million times better.
Beckmann’s pies have great crusts which are obviously baked with real butter and the fillings are perfect. Not too sweet, not too tart. Just right. They really do taste homemade!
Also love their dinner rolls! Soft and indulgent. So far, I recommend everything I’ve tried with enthusiasm.

I get my fix of their stuff at the San Leandro (Bayfair) Farmer’s market and I can’t get enough! Seems like almost every free Saturday morning, my girl asks me if we can go down to the Farmer’s Market to get a bear claw from here… seriously, they are the best! It’s HUGE (we split it), is nice and soft, and the flavors are just perfect. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of their bear claws!
Well, we came to pick one up on Saturday and before we could ask for one, the employee asked us if we wanted a free cookie sample. Who can resist that? I chose the tropical snickerdoodle and she chose the chocolate dipped coconut-​almond. The sample he gave us was big enough that we both got two bites of each cookie (!) and we were instantly sold. Two bags of cookies came home with the bear claw… can’t wait to try more of their baked goodness!

Love this bakery which has food stands at many of the bay area’s farmers markets. Doesn’t get 5 stars because prices aren’t that cheap. Tip: Come during the last hour at any FM, and try to negotiate the price down to save a few bucks. Easier when buying several items. (Hopefully they won’t read this)
