We have been in here twice now to get our, get this, not-​even-​skateboard decks grip taped and the owner has been above and beyond great each time and took our obscure requests with a smile. We have motorized scooters with wooden decks that we each needed gripped and one even specially done, and although it was not his normal tape job, he accepted it and we were so much more than grateful. Major thumbs up!

Came here to purchase my first set of roller skates. The owner was very knowledgable and helped set me up with all the right gear. I just loved the service. The owner was very patient and treated me very well. It was refreshing to go into a skate shop as a woman and be treated like a paying customer. I would recommend this place to any woman looking to roll :)

We were visiting from out of town and stopped by a couple of different skate shops. Skateworks was by far the friendliest shop — the owner even stayed open a little past closing time just so we could look around.
The selection isn’t huge but it is all good-​quality completes, trucks, wheels, and accessories.
The service was extremely friendly and personable and I’ll be back next time I’m in Santa Cruz!

Truly 5 Star as good as it gets. Customer Service is the most important thing when it comes to action sports gear. The more knowledge and integrity the more likely you are going to skate away happy and want more. This is good for everyone!
Bill has a great selection of hardgoods and plenty of accessories as well! Have a question I am sure they will have a great answer. Solid Location, never had issues parking. However it is next to a nice park that always teases me as its Bike only, don’t despair there is a Park close to go test out your new gear.
They have a Local brand that is made int he same building which is a Very CA thing and adds one more thing they do right… Support the industry!

I’ve lived in Santa Cruz area (east side) for twenty years but this was my first visit to Skateworks and this visit was by far the best experience I have had with a local skate shop. The two other biggies in town didn’t have the popular re-​issue wheels I was looking for, so I did a search and found Skateworks. Bill was fantastic with my questions and service. Not only did he have the elusive wheels but he set me up and helped with some new grip tape too. From this point on, Skateworks will be my first choice although it is the farthest from me.

Bought my first skateboard there over 15 years ago and still have the same feeling of wonder and amazement every time i walk into the shop and see the awesome selection of skate decks, wheels, trucks and much more. Simply the best.

Had the best experience yesterday at skateworks! We were shopping for a beginner board for our nine year old and the owner (bill I think) was so friendly and helpful. He didn’t make us feel like we weren’t «cool» enough for a skate shop like other places can do sometimes. We were so happy with his customer service that we bought a board– i didn’t want to take my business anywhere else. I really can’t say enough good things– no wonder they’ve been in business for so long. Can’t wait to go back

I love this place! I’m new to roller derby and a little clueless when it comes to the equipment involved. The staff here is always so helpful and don’t take advantage of my lack of knowledge. I was worried that they would only pick out the most expensive skates and other tools. But that is not the case at all. They show you all the different options, and explain everything. Best of all they will teach you how to take apart your skates and walk you thru how to do everything so you don’t have trouble later on by yourself. Such a great place. Skateworks is the only place to purchase roller derby equipment (that I’m aware of) on the central coast. They definitely don’t take advantage of that. They are very good to their customers and treat them very respectfully. It’s clear they love the sport and want to help it grow! Amazing place!

More than just boards. Always great deals on shoes and clothes also. Oh and if you do skate they have a skate ramp thats well maintained. I dont skate but my family does so its good to know where to get their gifts.

Very nice staff. Good inventory but we expected more of a selection. The customer service was friendly and courteous so we stayed a bit to chat. We asked if there were other stores with a larger selection and they were kind enough to recommend Bill’s Wheels.

Fun experience getting a skateboard here! I was on my way with my son to pick out a new skateboard at the mall from a corporate shop. Someone reminded me that there are a few locally owned skate shops around so I found Skate Works online. I thought that a locally owned shop would be more expensive but was not only thrilled with the better prices but Bill was great with m 7 yr old, explaining why a smaller board would suit him better than a full — size one and let him select one that he is thrilled about! The selection is great in both board styles and artwork. Bill knows his stuff and runs a shop worthy of 5 stars.

Talk about an amazing experience… I was an off beat customer looking for a service that (before I got there) didn’t realize wasn’t something they did a lot of. Not only did he help me out of a tight pinch for time, I received the customer service that just doesn’t exist in many places anymore. Bill was professional, kind, thorough and just a good guy. I’m a fan of the small business owner and cannot wait to head back over the hill and spend more money in his store.
Not only that, but I watched him interact with multiple customers and his ability to connect with every person is amazing. Just a superior experience. Spend your time and money here… you won’t be disappointed!

The rest of the story:
I just started street skating this summer and after a summer of skating on my brother’s warped board, I decided it was time for a new deck. I chose to go to skateworks based on the reviews of great customer service, but was still feeling really intimidated about going into a skate shop to buy a new deck while not really knowing anything about skating other than how to cruise along and ollie.
However, the nervous feeling I had went away immediately due to Bill and his staffs’ excitement about people learning how to skate! I didn’t feel stupid or put down at all (like I had felt from other skate shops when buying and fixing up my longboard) — Bill and his staff are very knowledgeable about skateboarding and only want to help you out and get you excited about the sport!
Because I am small (4’9″) and Bill didn’t have any shorter or thinner decks, he called up another shop and was able to bring in 2 more decks that had smaller widths and lengths the next day! I ended up choosing a mini creature and I love it! Due to my budget, I’ve had to slowly come back for new wheels and bearings, but each time I’ve come back, I’ve been treated with great customer service from Bill and his staff! They don’t care that I’m an awful skater, they’re all just super stoked that I’m learning how to skate and are always willing to go the extra mile to make a customer happy.

First off, go Skate Works!
Now then, I visited the store with a beautiful lady friend 1.5 months ago. We walked in and Bill greeted us right away. He carried on with what he was doing and let us explore the store. It was my first time buying a longboard so I needed extra time on my own; he checked in saw that and gave us more time.
Finally I made up my mind on a longboard and proceeded to the build. Bill is loaded with information and detail, good insight overall. I bought a Comet longboard for cruising and so far I am very satisfied!
A month later I visit the store with my longboarding mate. He buys a board with the same satisfaction I have. We plan to visit soon! Bill deserves good business, let’s bring it to him!

Had a great time buying a brand new board for my first time skater girl daughter. We were treated like royalty, and had a blast learning how skateboards are made from scratch. Next time I’m in this neighborhood, and when its time for her next board, we will for sure come back and visit this shop. Great customer service, large selection, and service with a smile. Very satisfied customers!
