O’Neil’s Lock & Key

Went in there hoping to get my car key cut. Home Depot had murdered the blank I gave them and it was basically useless. Fortunately the guy cutting keys there determined that it was salvageable and in a few minutes I walked out of there with a car key that now works. Best of all, they didn’t charge me for the service. Lesson learned, go to a genuine Iocksmith for key needs and avoid the automated machines at hardware stores. That might explain why my house keys are difficult to use. Once I find the master I’m bringing them here to get recut.

I’m not sure what happened to the guy with a low review, but I gave these guys a try for some commercial locksmithing I needed done after they were recommended to me by the property manager of a huge tech company. Initially I was like: huh, a huge company uses a small family owned locksmith… but after having them out to our offices now I understand.
I’m forever going to refer to the owner Ron as «the lock whisperer». Ron came out, assessed what I needed, sent me a written quote that afternoon, ordered the parts, then came out the next day and had it done by lunch time. In the process Ron had provided a number of suggestions to achieve what I wanted at the most reasonable cost, was knowledgable about the relevant fire codes, had to work in a challenging environment and did a great job to top it off with high quality workmanship.
I’ll unreservedly be calling the lock whisperer again soon.

David came out to the mobile home we just secured in North San Jose and re-​keyed three locks for us. Very personable and professional and he completed the work pretty darn quick! The person I spoke to in the office to make the appointment was also very professional and if I need any locksmith services in the future, I know where to go!

They are now located off Laurelwood in Santa Clara. Wonderful family business. Came to get a duplicate car key made, after Home Depot couldn’t get it right. Sorry HD. But, O’Neil came through and made sure my key fit my car before I left, and provided great customer service. These are the types of family businesses we need in our towns. I had another company try and charge me $ 300.00 to change my office lock and make some keys… long story short I told him to leave immediately because i was steaming mad at the balls of this guy trying to hustle me. I called O’Neils and spoke to Nolan or Nathan (sorry forgot name) and told him the situation and what kind of lock and door i had. He didnt have anyone available that day but once i told him the story he sent a tech named David within 30 minutes. David was in and out in 20 minutes” Saved the day and the cost was an honest price. My roommates recently moved out and I have 3 doors into my house and only 2 keys that work. I took my locks to them and they re-​keyed them all so they match 1 lock. I love having only 1 key for all the locks to my house. Thank you Stephanie & Nathan!
This was the 2^nd time I’ve used them. Years ago before Unilocal existed I used them at my job. I was in charge of all the keys in the office, what a mess! I straightened it out and the only key I didn’t have a copy of was the VP’s office key. Within about 2 weeks of getting the keys in order he locked his keys in the office and came to me asking for one, I didn’t have it and I called O’Neill’s, they were only about 10 mins away from the office and I knew they could get the door open. They sent someone right away and he got the door open so quickly. Their rate was reasonable too considering the super quick service.
I live and work out of their area now but when I need something done I don’t mind driving to them because I know they will get it done right.

Please stay away from them for you security needs. They recently did a lock installation at my place and did a shoddy job.
I had called them to install a Schlage electronic door lock. The installer who performed the installation came 20 minutes late. He was not communicated that this job involved replacing the lock itself and not just re-​keying the existing lock. And I guess he already had a lot of jobs planned after mine. Instead of rescheduling, he tried to rush through it and I think that caused the problems mentioned below.
The installer did not install the reinforcement plate and strike of the new lock and just kept the existing (older) strike plate as-​is. As per the manufacturer we must install the included reinforcement plate and strike in order to maintain BHMA Grade 1 status of the lock. Wanting to have a highest-​grade lock was the main reason I wanted to change my lock. How could he skip that? Do you want such a person working on your lock? I found this out later when I went through the installation manual and realized that he never changed the strike plate.
Also, the installer used power tools to install the deadbolt; this is prohibited by the manufacturer guidelines as it could screw up the electronics inside the lock.
Additionally, the deadbolt mechanism was not installed straight. It leans towards the left. What kind of a licensed business hires a person who cannot attach something to the door in a straight line?

Made 3 copies of a key within 30 seconds and they all worked (at a very fair price).

OUR SAVIOR!!! Two words to describe ‘em. If you have a unique, customized kind of key and you want to have it replicated, look no further and go to this store. This was the situation we had when a customized iron door was installed in our house. We needed to have copies of the main key and we tried a lot of places to have it replicated. We were told they can’t do it because our key was made differently/​unique. Only when we went to UPS that a lady referred us to this place. She guaranteed we won’t be sorry and it’s not a waste of our time… and she was right!
When we got there, the guy was fast and efficient in doing the job. He just looked at our key and after a few, we were out of the store and done. We also thought that it might be pricey because other people said that our key was unique but it was about 4 bucks for two keys.
Highly recommended.

Fast and friendly service. It’s a big store with a larger than average inventory. There don’t seem to be as many locksmiths around these days, so I was happy to find these guys.

Fantastic service! Called them yesterday for a lock change today at our company. They came out within the quoted time frame. More importantly the service on the phone and with the locksmith (David) who came to our location was awesome. HIGHLY recommend!

Simply amazing. Great customer service; professional and gets the job done at reasonable rates.
Let me explain:
Get a call from my girlfriend this morning. Bedroom door is locked (its not your typical bedroom lock you can pick yourself — landlord has a outdoor lock for the bedroom — don’t ask why).
Call O’Neils Lock and Key around 8.40am (I’m out of town so had to coordinate on phone). They arrive at around 9.15am (as promised) Door unlocked within minutes. Girlfriend is happy.
They get it done and quick. Great service and very professional from initial call to unlocking the door.

Our door lock is jammed. Even after I removed the handle, the latch is still jammed and get stuck. After I called O’Neil, they arrived within 15 minutes and repaired it (detach the jammed latch and reinstall a new latch) within 15 minutes too. Very friendly service and professional too.

I wanted to get the deadbolt locks changed in my house as I just walked out the renters. I was trying to do it myself, but ran into some issues. I called O’Neil’s. They were very quick to respond. Guy came in, looked at the problem, fixed it quickly. He installed the new deadbolt.
However, he didn’t test it with the door in locked position (which I would think he should have done given he changed the deadbolt lock). The alignment was off and I couldn’t lock the door. I called him back 10 mins later. He said if it is a quick fix, he won’t charge me the service call fees, otherwise he will have to charge me. I found that weird, but didn’t know what else to do. He came back 5 minutes later, looked at the problem, fixed it in 10 minutes and didn’t charge me anything. So it all worked out well in the end.
Overall, I am going to ignore the small snafu about the door alignment and I think he did a good job.

This place was great! Needed a couple keys done, and this place got it done quick! There were lots of options to pick from too! Anything from characters, novelty (such as gun shaped keys), sports, and of course the old fashioned normal key. I went in, and I was seriously out in less than 2 minutes to have 3 keys made. Awesome! And great price too! I’ll definitely be back when I need any other keys made!

After a grueling week of trying to make ONE key at WalMart I grew tired of their bad customer service and poorly made keys. So I came online to look for the best of the best and surely enough
was the source to help me out.
With my bad experience with Walmart I was quite skeptical about going to anyone else to make a simple key for me. After reviewing a few shops I decided to head over to O’Neil’s Lock & Key. It was a decision I should have made prior to going to anyone else.
The service was remarkable, courteous, and fast. The guy who helped me out was very knowledgeable and made my key within 30 seconds with flawless mistakes. I was in and out within five minutes.

Just wanted to update my review. From Nolan and Stephanie doing a great job copying keys for me, Stephanie handling my appointment needs beautifully and Cameron coming out to install locks at my place, this company is just the best when it comes to quality and service. Their prices are also very reasonable. Everyone I have ever come in contact with here is pleasantly engaging and I always get exactly what I need and want. I wanted to re-​express my satisfaction!

I love small shops like O’Neil’s. Nothing in particular against Home Depot or OSH, but in this economy, I try to make it a point to support the smaller shops.
I’d gotten some keys made at OSH recently, and some of the copies ended up not working well and sticking quite a bit in the lock. I think it’s because they switched to the new-​fangled machine that takes a snapshot of the key then recreates it, rather than the old fashioned machines that takes the old key and traces and cuts exactly like it. So, I figured it’s new technology that hasn’t had all the bugs ironed out, and left it at that.
I needed to get more keys made, and my wife mentioned O’Neil’s, and so I went. Lo and behold, it’s a smaller place, I think family owned, and they use the old style key duplicator! I was happy as a clam, and got my keys made. Better yet, I mentioned that my lock had been harder and harder to unlock ever since we’d started using some of the OSH copies, and he said it’s most likely just in need of lube, and suggested a $ 3 tube of graphite. Brought it home, puffed it into the keyhole, and voila! No more sticky lock.
Prices were pretty good, especially compared to OSH. If I ever have more lock issues, I’m coming back here.

I found this place many years ago on Unilocal,and they’re my go-​to locksmith in the South Bay (heck, the Bay Area).
Prices are reasonable and you can bet that they know their locks. I’ve gotten locks rekeyed here, springs cleaned, keys duplicated. The last time I came, they thought that they could fix the lock by cleaning/​replacing the springs. It didn’t work so well — problem was the keys that we were using (copies of a copy). They made new keys for me that worked a LOT better with the lock — problem solved!
I’d come here for ANY type of lock — related service. Check out their collection of safes for sale in the front of the store — some of them are antiques!
