American Barbershop

I love this place and the barbers are fantastic. I have no complaints on the service but I am mainly writing this review because I have gone here 3 separate occasions 1 week 2 weeks and 4 months a part and they never have Layrite in stock for their clients any more! They have it advertised on their window that they both sell and use it for their customers!!! I am a bit upset about this because when I get a fresh cut at a place like this I want to have my hair perfect and they stick by what they say, in this case supplying their new cut heads with Layrite. It seems like the owner or manager is neglecting this because even the barbers don’t even know what happening and they have also requested for their shop to get stocked up again.
Dear owner or manager: I am writing this to get YOUR attention. Don’t slack on the Layrite and listen to your barbers and your clients because this would be a deal breaker for me and probably some others that care about quality service.

My barber is Eli and I’ve been with him since I first got my undercut. He’s been so amazing and takes my hair as personal as I do. I have also allowed him to express his creativity by doing some free hand designs on my hair. Awesome, awesome haircuts every time!
I have also had Tizz (Jonathan) cut my hair several times and he is just a super talented individual, as well! Many, many years of experience and it shows. He takes everyone’s hair very personal too because to him, every head is a canvas.
These barbers, as well as all the rest that work here, are not only barbers, but thy are ARTISTS. They are constantly working on bettering themselves and keeping with the highest standards in the industry.
I CONSTANTLY get compliments on how awesome my hair is and I always refer everyone to Eli, Tizz and all the barbers here in general.
The atmosphere is so fun and laid back, too! Good vibes all the time. Every time I walk in the shop, I feel like I’m within friends just hanging out having a good old time cutting some hair and I’m sure thats probably how it is for them.
American Barbershop has embraced and completely surpassed the standards and idea of what I think of when I think of ‘a barber shop.‘

I been here many times but wanted to change up my look for the 2016 … So I made an appointment with Jonathan … He teaches at Paul Mitchell and I co sided him a master barber he is on time … Does a great consultation and asks about hair care and educates you on how to style your hair at home he has great customer service skills !.. He’s my barber for the 2016 fur sure

Roland has been my barber and he does an amazing job. You get what you pay for here at this establishment love this place, owner, and all the barber are a great group of guys! Each barber has their own unique style of cut, so pick them wisely, for what you are looking for! Love this place, I live in LA and I drive a hour every 2 – 3 weeks to come here and get a cut by Rol. Great place!

Fun atmosphere, I would suggest checking out the barbers work before you choose them. Some are excellent and pay attention to detail and some speed through.
My boyfriend has gone 2 times and both times he has been dissatisfied with his cut. He has said the barber was quick and didn’t clean up his hard part well. I have taken my brothers a couple of times and they have loved their cuts. I really suggest choosing the right barber that cuts your style.
Loud music, funny guys, and a modern flashback of the past barber shops!

Waited too long, so I dipped… I’d happily pay extra for a good cut, that being said I also expect good customer service, not a bunch of pre Madonnas… the owner or who ever was in there trying to rally the troops seemed dedicated but for some reason his guys just brushed it off as it was nothing… saw clippers being turned of a lot for small talk. Weak…

I came here today for the first time because I’m new to Santa Ana and found that the reviews on this place were really positive compared to other local barber shops.
Upon my first impression, I’d have to say that this place is the best barber shop I’ve been to so far. I called ahead of time to see if I could set an appointment and whoever answered the phone told me that I should be okay if I just walked in. Based on my experience though, when barber shops tell you this, you still end up having to wait 30 mins to an hour but when I came in, I was greeted the moment I walked in and I got a barber right away despite the shop looking pretty packed for a Saturday afternoon. In terms of atmosphere, I’d have to say the barber shop theme and music is modernly tasteful and every barber is dressed pretty professionally based off of their American theme.
As for the cut, I’m usually not too picky on what I get. There’s just a couple of things I want my barber to get right as far as details go but for the most part, I don’t think I’m a pretty tough customer. I feel as though Robert really did exemplify an excellent barber in that he had the right amount of conversation and focus when he did his cut. He really does a great job creating a friendly environment where his customers can feel comfortable and he’s meticulous when it comes to your hair. It’s usually different between each individual but one can always tell if a barber is rushing his/​her hair based on the feel of the cut.
My only regret is coming to the shop a little unprepared financially. The basic cost of a cut is $ 25 and my broke ass thought it would be around $ 15 (through experience with other barber shops). I usually tip out up to $ 25 so I thought I had reserves to give this guy a $ 10 tip if he did well but having just been the first of the month… I’m pretty tight on money… so I just want to apologize to Robert if he sees this. I promise I’ll cover that previous tip the next time I come in lol.

My husband was sat in a chair on a Sunday afternoon in less than five minutes! This is the kind of barbershop that your grandpa went to every week for 49 years. It is badass. Total old school feeling and if we lived here I’m sure it would be out regular shop!

Worst fucken experience… My barber was closed so i decided to give these guys a try. I think I’m better of going to a beauty salon then this place!!! I told them a specific hair cut, guy did it completely different, i tried explaining again and he still didn’t listen!!! Go to ambitiouz barbershop way less expensive and they know what they’re doing!!!

This review is for Mike (cutthroat) the barber. I’m a girl and half of my head is shaved. Mike is amazing at what he does, I tell him to do whatever he wants and I’m always happy. He is a true professional, and extremely talented in his craft. I drive 3 hours round trip every two weeks just to see him, he’s worth it.

Today I got the pleasure of getting my hair cut by AJ. I made an appointment thru his online system and it was very simple and effective. I’m glad I made an appointment because the shop was super busy when I walked in on a friday evening. The place has a night old school vibe which I like with a touch of modern. AJ is a really nice guy, he gave me some good hair advice. I’m trying to grow out my top so he made sure to give me some advice on grooming it and also growing it. He works efficiently and also a good conversationalist. He’s professional and really nice. Thanks AJ! See you next time!

After coming twice before, I really wanted to like this place. All of the barbers seem cool and very talented, but after waiting for an hour and a half with only two people before me getting called and a handful of the barbers’ friends instantly walking in and getting seated, in addition to the barbers’ lack of concern about the situation, I couldn’t take it anymore.
I only came back a third time because of how great of an impression Mike left the first two times, but now that he doesn’t work on days I can come in anymore, I now realize this place is just not worth its high cost and disrespect.
Don’t come here if you want to feel like a valued costumer; unless, of course, you already are friends with one of the barbers.

I am very happy I found this place. For a few months I looked around but didn’t find somewhere I liked, until I walked into American Barbershop.
I really enjoy the atmosphere of this barbershop. They always play good music, which I end up having to get for my personal playlists. Everyone is friendly and chatting it up and people watching… very fun place to get your hair cut.
It is pretty popular, so obviously expect the wait to be a bit long. However, once you find a barber that you like, you can make an appointment so you don’t wait so long. When I come here I always ask for CJ, he does a great job all the time. Plus, he has the best seat in the house — right next to the windows!
Bring cash, since they don’t take cards. But there is an atm inside in case you forget.

I’ve been coming here with the mister for his bi-​monthly cut with Jose. (I believe that was the barbers name) He has a bunch of awards on display at his station, so you know hes got to be doing something right. He’s always got my man looking slick and handsome for me.
We’ve never had to wait long to get him in a chair.
The workers here are GREAT at what they do. Amazing work, always got their men leaving looking on point. They really take the time to get to know their customers as well which, in my opinion, deserves two thumbs up.
I love how this shop is decorated. I think its so cute, they got some old school style barber chairs, as well as a long cushiony couch for a «lounge» like area where guests can get comfortable as they wait for their barbers, or friends.

American Barbershop has revolutionized what an authentic old school barbershop should be. George Mendoza and his barbers do a phenomenal job to preserve the true essence of traditional American barbering with a subtle modern twist. Personally, I have had Jonathan and Danny work on my beard and hair. Both barbers have done a wholesomely fantastic job by improving my image and style… props to both of them!
Located in the heart of Santa Ana’s downtown district, I cannot imagine a better venue than the the building they secured to establish such an amazing barbershop. The shop has a vintage flair to it including the window decals with their logo is reminiscent of yesteryear’s nostalgia. Over a period of two or so years the interior has been improved with additional stations featuring authentic barber chairs from the early turn of the century – oh if they could speak! What stories would they tell?. Toolbox drawers and checkered tiled walls add masculinity to the atmosphere of the shop. This shop is like a an all American man cave with all its décor and ambiance elements. Even the barbers become fixtures with their unique attire creating a unique fashionable statement for the period. Overall this place is worthy of a movie setting so mark my words when Hollywood calls!
In conclusion, American Barbershop is everything and beyond what they claim to be. Fantastic service from truly skilled barbers as well as a unique environment that transports you to the good old American Barbershop tradition, complete with all the local gossip!

I took my nephew to get his haircut with no appointment. We got there like around 5:30 place was packed. We just waited like 15 mins. It was my nephews first time going to this place. Worm did a great job on his hair. He took his time and really paid attention to detail on his hair. I was observing the other barbers; you could tell the difference.(more dedication) This Barbershop is bad-​ass! I was pleased with my nephews hair cut. The price is high but it’s well worth it. So my nephew told me when we left he found his barber with a happy face. That’s actually what I wanted to see at thy end. Thanks Worm! See u next time!

They need a better scheduling system so people would know how much time they have to wait, I personally waited one hour and 50 minutes, so if you have time to waste, then this is your spot!
P.S: I left without getting a hair cut!
