I grew up in a small town from which I have been dislocated for many years as I made my way through the world and a successful career. This restaurant reminds me of the local diner in my small burg. I returned to my roots for a short duration while eating lunch here. The food was good and the staff was friendly, but the experience was amazing. I didn’t want to leave. Quaint… Familiar. Relaxing.

Best greasy spoon in the tri-cities. I go here for breakfast on occasion. It is a great price for a good-sized portion of food. The biscuits were hot and fresh, the homefries were just a wee bit overdone, but tasty and the I think there were six(I didn’t count) large slices of bacon. That and a cup of coffee was 7 bucks. Other places around town charge more and only give 3 slices of bacon. The feel is down home, the staff are friendly.

Ma & Pa’s Diner is one of those good old-fashioned diners where you just know you can enjoy some good, solid, comfort-leaning food. Whether you go for breakfast(served anytime — my usual go to) or you chose other favorites like fried chicken or country-fried steak, you should find yourself in for an inexpensive, tasty meal. And though we only get out this way when we head to the airport, the staff always makes us feel right at home. The more negative reviews I’ve seen make me think that some folks aren’t really into«the old-fashioned diner experience». If you’re looking for gourmet anything, then such an experience just won’t be a good fit. But if you want a good meal at a good price, then diners like Ma & Pa’s are a terrific option.

This is our first visit after driving by hundreds of times, telling my wife«we need to check this place out» And I am glad that we did. The«He Man Breakfast was great, the service was impeccable, and the prices were reasonable. We will definitely come back!

Decided to give this spot a try because the reviews weren’t bad and we just moved to Varina area and it’s so close. But I don’t know what everyone is ordering. My husband and I ordered a standard breakfast with breakfast potatoes, bacon, eggs, and grits, and everything was horrible. Especially the grits. If you can’t make grits, don’t have it on the menu. I didn’t think breakfast could suck so bad and then on top of that the place is old and dirty. It needs an upgrade or something. If the food was good I probably wouldn’t mind it as much but it isn’t. Definitely won’t be returning. I advise anyone looking for good breakfast to just go to Mcleans. You won’t be disappointed.

Had time Before my flight took off and decided to give this place a try. They had pot roast as a special and it was delicious all for 6.95. I would recommend if you got some time to kill before your flight.

One of the best breakfasts I’ve had in years. Hubby and I lost were on a short local jaunt out of town for the day and we have a «no chain restaurant» policy when we travel. Decided to stop here and since we have been passing by it for years decided to give it a try. They did not disappoint. I got my staple, biscuits and sausage gravy and hubby got the corned beef hash and eggs. They were absolutely delicious and you can tell everything is made to order and from scratch. We will be back to try their lunch and dinner fare. Amazing place.

If you’re looking for fancy this isn’t the place. But this place is family friendly and a great at home atmosphere. The waitstaff is sweet and very enjoyable. They helped with directions and made us feel very welcome. The food is really good and fresh specials everyday! Can’t go wrong coming to this place.

Great food, 4 stars only because the local is very tired, not dirty just old, but you know places like this always surprise you. Staff is really friendly and service is really fast, I ordered the NY strip for lunch and was like home cooked. If you don’t care about the old look this place is great food for very little $.

Great dive. This place will have you hooked. Great food at low prices. Nice portions. Best part is you can get breakfast anytime. Nothing fancy looking but definitely worth going for the food. The waitresses are really friendly as well. Best country ham in town.

Pretty good breakfast experience. The place reminds me of a cleaner Waffle House. Service was very good. Coffee was decent but not great. Overall better than average but nothing to write home about. I had eggs, hash browns, sausage links and a biscuit. Hash browns were cooked perfectly.

This place is 5 stars for what it is. Food was excellent, service was so fast! This diner has been around for a while and it’s clear why it has lasted. Great prices and large portions. Friendly staff. Would recommend going out of your way for diner style food.

This is home cooking goodness. We had breakfast foods and it was delicious, homemade sausage gravely for Carol, pancakes, biscuits, over easy eggs done just right for Turk. My omelette was perfect veggies done and eggs just so. Excellent all round and cozy homelike atmosphere.

This is my spot right here. I think I like being able to see the cook fix my food. I don’t get the chance to eat country ham often-which is probably a good thing but it’s delicious here. I wonder where they get that OJ from?

This diner is located next to two Waffle Houses, but we decided to visit a local business rather than a chain establishment. When we walked in, there were only three empty tables, which is always a good place. Some of the other patrons were addressed by name, suggesting that they’re regulars. That is also always a good sign. The menu seemed to be a bit more expansive than the typical diner, offering trout, NY strip, etc. I had the trout, and my partner had the NY strip. The gravy we received was gelatinous, and tasted odd. The fried apples were overly sweet, and this is coming from someone that eats the strawberry jelly preserve packages at diners. The mashed potatoes tasted like instant mashed potatoes out of a box. The trout tasted pretty good, and it was a huge portion for under $ 10. The steak tasted fine, but the texture was tough, due to them not having a hot enough grill to cook steaks on. The biscuits and cornbread were uninspiring. The inside is definitely divey with ripped seat cushions, and the prices are comparable to the Waffle House. If this place limits their menu to things that they do well, I think they’ll be a better place. Otherwise, I would avoid it, and go the extra 100 feet to the Waffle House.

If you’re looking for a tired, run down, worn out Waffle House then you’ve found a home at last. There’s a reason there’s no government inspection vehicles seen near this place. The reason is no one would want to be held accountable for having known about the horror that will inevitably spring forth from this breeding ground. For God’s Sakes clean up this place before its to late. Ebola will seem like child’s play if something should spread from here to the nearby airport.

Diner right by the airport. Prices are good, as is the food. On the same level as Karen City Diner and McLeans with really good crispy bacon. Give yourself an hour if you are catching a meal before your flight. BF says the bathroom could be cleaner.
