Wow ! I’ve had some bbq before but not like this. Great food ! I especially love those beans. Max is such a great guy. He loves what he does and it shows. Now you just have to find him and I think that’s part of the fun of eating there. I know you can follow him on Twitter to find out where he’s at. Seems to have some regular places he appears like OSH in San Rafael. I’ll be looking for you Max. Thank you ! Darren

Max catered our Contractor Day and Trade Show and was a HUGE success. He served over 400 people and him and his entire crew were a pleasure to work with. The BBQ was flawless, the beans and coleslaw were amazing, and his entire operation was fast, friendly, and very professional. I would highly recommend him for both catering events, as well as just grabbing lunch. I wish him the best!!!

To sum it up… WOW !!! Nothing to eat in this area where I work. To my surprise I begin to see this food truck appear and I begin to get curious. Not your average food truck, no way !! When you walk up you get personally treated to a few smiles and a welcome by staff and Max himself, if your lucky he will even comment on how nice your hair looks. Then I got my lunch and OHWOW, what can I say BUT this was the best BBQ I have ever had. I had the combo plate with chicken and a rib was slipped in there beside the most amazing beans I have ever had. The chicken was moist and had a perfect balance of slaw, chicken and sauce. Nothing overpowered each bite, they all married together in a perfect combination of YUM !! Hey Max, don’t eve leave my neighborhood please or I will follow you where ever you may be to get this amazing BBQ.

Very good BBQ the pulled pork sandwich is perfect, not overflowing with some off the shelf BBQ sauce that overpowers the flavor of the pork. The baby back ribs are great, the guy loves his business you can tell by the food. The beans and slaw are delicious. He’s been by Golden State lumber in San Rafael after leaving the Cave spot by Redwood HS but he will be back when school starts up again.

Just did a large BBQ party for 100 people and used Max’s Pig ‘n’ Pie to cater the event. Max and his food were the hit of the event. Of course the BBQ is fantastic with Pulled Pork, Ribs and his famous home made BBQ beans, but what is really amazing is Max’s passion about the food. He happily gave a presentation about how he produces this incredible BBQ and no one could stop raving about it! He parked the truck in front of our house and set up a serving table under a tent in our back yard. The crew efficiently served 100 people and could have served 200 without a problem. We also had passed appetizers before hand that were mini-tacos and BBQ wings. Max and his food made our event one to be remembered and we give him 5stars! You don’t want to miss this BBQ.

I am writing this as I am scarfing down the pulled pork sandwich I just picked up. Yummy-yum-yum. I am not sure what Max does besides smoking the meat for hours and hours but I have not had anything with such great wood smoky flavor in ages. Coleslaw on top is crispy, dressed just right, not soggy. Beans, as advertised, are to die for. I think there’s meat in them too, or maybe it fell of the sandwich, but pretty sure it’s was the beans originally. Obviously, this is not a place for vegetarians. I on the other hand will definitely be back. Also the owner greets you personally and effusively upon arrival into the line. Neat. And he offered to remake my food when I was surprised by something — just way nice. Tip, come early. There’s a nearby high school and by 1 pm the kids out at lunch had eaten all the ribs, and I think they were about to run out of pork too. Seating is on grass on a small lawn, so atmosphere is either«super casual» or take out. Go try it at lunch, totally worth it.

Absolutely delicious! The BBQ chicken wings are out of this world, and unlike anything I’ve ever tried! The beans are unbelievable, and the portions are enormous, as good BBQ should be! Highly recommend, if you see this truck, do yourself a favor and grab yourself some amazing lunch!

Max’s BBQ is amazing! I just saw him and his truck near Larkspur Landing and stopped by a on a whim. Let me tell you why Max is unique to a lot of other BBQ places: 1) His slaw is now full of mayo. It’s a dry, vinegar based slaw that is tart and sweet and crunchy. It’s the one time you won’t treat slaw as a garnish pile. 2) His beans are not the standard Bush’s baked fair. It has chunks of pork, 5 different types beans, slices of peppers for kick and the usual molasses and brown sugar for the sweetness. Yes, the ribs were great and perfectly smoked and I’ll be back 100%. What I’d like to see is a bowl of beans with a side of slaw and some Texas toast as an option(or something like that). I asked to buy a small container for my wife and she thought they were amazing with a hearty chunk of bread. Hope I see more of Max and his amazing food!

This is the first Unilocal review I have ever written and I am very glad to write one for Max’s Pig«n’ Pie. I had the pulled pork sandwich and my wife had the ribs. The pulled pork was the best I have ever had, hands down. My wife loved the ribs. Max puts his heart and soul into his food and his passion for making excellent barbecue really shows up. I will definitely be back.

TEXASSTYLEBBQ: Organic pulled pork/chicken — and if you’re «paleo» you can have it without the beans if you want(you get more pork/chicken). If you’re a paleo someone that does a «cheat day» then the ribs are quite literally out of this world perfect. Max is usually there, and he is SONICE. You can find Max’s truck at the BACK of 410 Tamal Plaza on Thursdays. It’s worth going out of your way, even though it’s on the street with all the construction. The«turn in» for 410 Tamal Plaza is on the right if you’re coming from the JoAnne’s Fabrics direction — look for the driveway with the mailboxes/Fed Ex boxes on it, before the stoplight(right across from the construction). If you get to the DMV/movie theatre you’ve gone too far. Drive ALLTHEWAY to the back of the office park, turn left, and he’s there on Thursdays starting around 10 I think. SOWORTHIT. It beats the pants off the BBQ that took the place of Max’s, where I’ve gotten undercooked/burnt food and the sauce isn’t particularly tangy. Also who knows where their meat comes from. If you’re a beans person I hear that Max’s are to die for and«straight from the heart of Texas.» Try it out!!!

Really good. He will make it however you want and it tastes amazing. I have never seen a man so passionate about BBQ. Max truly loves feeding people. So good. Every Thursday they are back in the back by The Cave, CrossFit Marin(behind the construction) on Tamal Vista. Come get some!

Just went for the first time and can’t wait to go back. Max was an amazing host, and the rest of the team was great. I’m a huge BBQ fan and can say with certainty that it was the best pulled pork sandwich I’ve ever had. I’m definitely going back and can’t wait to work my way through the entire menu!

Max’s Pig ‘n’ Pie food truck(trailer actually) puts out some of the best BBQ outside of Texas. Max is a perfectionist with outrageous BBQ ribs, pulled pork, brisket and chicken. Even the beans are commendable with 5 kinds of beans in there. Add some slaw and it’s a great meal. Try the«Cowboy Burrito,» my favorite. His trailer is at the Larkspur Landing parking lot next to the theater Mondays 11 — 2PM, and just starting same hours on Thursday in the rear parking lot of the office complex on Tamal Vista across the street from the new LARGE apartments being built, and diagonally across from the DMV, in Corte Madera. It’s well worth hunting him down for lunch. He also does catering — I met Max at a party. PS: Max is a great guy. Once you meet him, he won’t forget you.

Awww Man! No question about it, these folks know how to work the smokestack. The ribs are the best I’ve had in so many years. I’m usually shy on ribs in CA because I’ve been burnt and chewed up too many times to count but not Today my friends. Max’s Pig & Pie knows how to make ‘em right. The rib meat just melts off the bone into a smoky bite of tender meat. The meat has a gorgeous bark on the outside that isn’t overly crusted, its just enough to keep the meat from falling apart. Once you peel off a piece of the meat then you can see a solid pink smoke ring that can only be created out of a dedication to working the smoker. I also tried the pulled pork. Its solid in its own righteous way and should not be forgotten. The pork has a fluffy quality that makes for a tender but big hitting sandwich. Then the coleslaw on top gives you a tangy pop of freshness that contains at least 1% DV of some kinda vitamin that I could care less about! Then they stuff it all in to a big fluffy white bun, this made me so happy. I see so many places nowadays reaching for the rustic breads that have the tough and crusty exteriors. The roof of my mouth thanks you Max for staying true to the fluffy white bun. Now don’t forget to smother some extra sauce from the squirt bottle. It’s the good stuff, the best man of BBQ, and a must for my plate. Their sauce is the sweet maroon molasses style. It has just the right amount of pepper and smoke to keep your mouth excited. I loved the sauce but next time I’ll make sure to hit it with a shot of Louisiana Hot Sauce, cuz that’s how I roll. To top it off the whole family working out front and inside are extremely friendly. The day I went they were showing the ropes to their little grandchild. This was really cool to see people teaching the value of a business to the young ones. I couldn’t ask for a better representation of what BBQ means to me. A love for food that brings together your family and neighbors.

Hands down, The Best pulled pork sandwich that I have ever eaten! In all my sincere honesty, this was the best BBQ experience that I have had in my entire life. I’ve had a lot of BBQ in my time but Wow! Blown away! Delicious! The ribs have a smoke ring and flavor that speaks low and slow. The BBQ Pit Master(Chef Max) is a BBQ genius. Born and raised in Texas, this Chef has taken his competitive Texas style BBQ out to Northern Cal to share with all of us. Try the beans a well. He starts with a pork shoulder, smoked for up to 14 hours, shredded and then combined with a four different beans. This lunch truck /giant smoker on wheels is a must to experience. A giant amount of food for under ten bucks. The best tasting BBQ of a lifetime.
